Left Realism aimed to address the shortcomings of other perspectives in explaining crime and counter the influence of Right Realism, linking theory to practical measures to improve lives and reduce crime. It identified four key ideas: a real increase in crime, an aetiological crisis, victimology, and fear of crime. Left Realism views crime as resulting from the interweaving of multiple factors that differ depending on the type of crime.
