safely even with teacher student ratio of 1: 150200.
 Students can save their time and get more information than
reading books.
 A carefully planned lecture by a well-prepared teacher can avoid
all interruptions and distractions in the class. The syllabus of the
subject can be covered within the available time.
 A lecture that has been well-designed, carefully and thoughtfully
delivered can stimulate the students and enhance thinking
capacity of the students.
 It improves the concentration and listening capacity of the
students.
 It helps to meet the learning needs of a group of students in a
short period of time.

12. Disadvantage of Lecture
Method
 Learning objectives might not be attained if the lecture is delivered
without much preparation by
 the teacher. This is considered to be one of the major disadvantage or
limitation of lecture method.
 Lecture method does not promote discussion, is one-way session only.
Less attention is given to
 problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking in formal
lectures.
 Lecture make students passive learner and reduce their participation in
teaching-learning process if not combined with other methods of
teaching and learning. Lecture method cannot meet the expectations of
the students individual learning needs. This method gives freedom to
the students to actively apply, experiment their ideas and conceptions
and try innovative methods. The disadvantages or limitations of lecture
method can be overcome. with the use of some alternate strategies
given below.
