This is a poster that Helen Leach and I will be presenting at SAPC SW in Cardiff (March 24).
It is a summary of the development of academic general practice within the UK and some of the major technological innovations in our field.
20220804 Obstetrics and gynaecoloy SHO SOP Guide v3.pptxJakeMatthews12
This is a very brief informal introduction for new doctors starting Obs and gynae. I found it useful to make templates of the consultations. Keep these on my computer login and then copy into the healthrecord and then change for each patient.
Using a template meant that I covered all the red flags and had a basic management plan ready to go for most people.
If this is useful then please feel free to use and share it. Also feel free to make changes.
Improving the teaching of chest pain and ACSJakeMatthews12
For medical students and doctors who want to use Venn diagrams, risk scores, the latest evidence and medical statistics to improve their history taking of patients with chest pain and improve their diagnosis of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS).
The #RIFT Study posters all together Dec 2019 v1.1JakeMatthews12
This posters were presented at the ASiT Conference in 2018. The initial results from the RIFT Study on RIF pain and appendicitis from 200 centres across Europe and over 11,000 patients.
There was a lot of data to analyse and many papers to produce.
The first paper was published in BJS in Dec 2019. The data was collected from March 2017. The planning began in 2015.

Adequacy of secondary versus primary assessment of surgical site infection in...JakeMatthews12
This presentation was delivered as an oral presentation at the ESCP conference in Barcelona in 2014. It was based on a literature review and comparison of wound infection rates in general surgical RCTs. If the SSI is reported as a primary endpoint is was statistically signficantly higher than if it was reported as a secondary endpoint.
This is important because it helps to show that studies that report findings that were not the main aim of the study are often flawed and produced a less reliable result. Also means that many wound infection rates that are quoted as potentially far too low and this could impact patient care.
This study was done by myself, Shivam Bhanderi, Dmitri Nepogodiev, Stephen Chapman and Aneel Bhangu.

The right iliac fossa pain treatment audit #RIFTStudy v1.1JakeMatthews12
This is one of the first presentations I ever delivered on the #RIFTStudy it was delivered to the WRMC in July 2016 with the advice of Dmitri and Aneel. We presented this as our initial study idea that we wanted the WMRC to take on and run.
From these very humble beginnings it would go on to run across 200 hospitals in the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Italy in 2017 and collect data on over 12,000 patients.

A Quality Improvement Project on Orthopaedic Operation NotesJakeMatthews12
This was an audit and quality improvement project carried out at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in 2015 and was runner up in the Sage Surgical Prize 2015.
The project analyse a large number of operation notes and then proposed how these notes could be improved to make caring for patients on the wards after surgery a bit easier for junior doctors and hence to improve patient care by making sure that all patients received exactly the post-operative care they required.
Comparing Stability and Sustainability in Agile SystemsRob Healy
Copy of the presentation given at XP2024 based on a research paper.
In this paper we explain wat overwork is and the physical and mental health risks associated with it.
We then explore how overwork relates to system stability and inventory.
Finally there is a call to action for Team Leads / Scrum Masters / Managers to measure and monitor excess work for individual teams.
The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.

Public Speaking Tips to Help You Be A Strong Leader.pdfPinta Partners
In the realm of effective leadership, a multitude of skills come into play, but one stands out as both crucial and challenging: public speaking.
Public speaking transcends mere eloquence; it serves as the medium through which leaders articulate their vision, inspire action, and foster engagement. For leaders, refining public speaking skills is essential, elevating their ability to influence, persuade, and lead with resolute conviction. Here are some key tips to consider: https://joellandau.com/the-public-speaking-tips-to-help-you-be-a-stronger-leader/
Specific ServPoints should be tailored for restaurants in all food service segments. Your ServPoints should be the centerpiece of brand delivery training (guest service) and align with your brand position and marketing initiatives, especially in high-labor-cost conditions.
