Learned Through Volunteering
I learned many different skills through volunteering at Maine Medical Center. I learned what it takes
to become a doctor at Maine Medical Center and why it is a leading hospital (WHERE?).
Volunteering made me realize that this is the only hospital I would like to work at. The staff within
the hospital makes it a wonderful place to be a part of, even as a volunteer. The many people I
worked with made me feel like family. They were willing to answer any question, and teach me
anything they knew. Through volunteering, I learned many skills that I will always use while
working the rest of my life. Working in the medical field requires for someone to work with new
people, be independent and serve people. These are things I learned while volunteering

My Volunteering Experience At Children's Hospital Colorado
Throughout the years I feel that I've had a number of valuable experiences, my most significant
experience is my volunteering experience at Children's Hospital Colorado. I still remember feeling
utterly terrified on my first day volunteering, pondering all the possible ways things could go wrong.
I suddenly felt as though I have never experienced this before. I was on my own, responsible for
myself and all of my actions.
On my first day volunteering, I found myself doing deliveries on the sterile patient floors. There was
a type of silence that made me nervous. I couldn't hear a word of casual chatter, or people carelessly
laughing. It felt completely different from what I was used to hearing on a day to day bases.
I went on my search to find the room that I was delivering the gift to, while following all the rules
that were established at my orientation. At the time, the task seemed odd, I didn't expect it to be
something I would be doing when I started out. Everything seemed new, and different, it allowed me
to view thing that differed from the protected scope I looked through my entire life. Reality was
right in front of me, this was the reality of so many people, and it was something that I had never
had to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experience taught me to work hard to achieve my goal of becoming a doctor and helping as
many people as I can. It taught me not to waste my time. All of my dedication has pushed me to be
the best person I can be so in the future I can feel confident about all of my choices. Volunteering at
Children's Hospital offered me an experience that pushed me to strive for no less than excellence.
By volunteering, I watched my dreams and ambitions get closer, and although the process is a slow
and difficult one, every second of it was worth it because I was able to watch everything I value

Volunteering At Mattel Children's Hospital
Service to the community has been important to my family for as long I can remember. My earliest
recollections of community service were at 10 years of age when I would join my father in cleaning
up the town pond, and my mother in feeding the homeless. With this early introduction to service, I
find being a person for others natural, and have always found ways in which I can give back.
Volunteering at Mattel Children's Hospital was my first clinical experience, and the meaningful
impact I made there will always stay close to my heart. Many of the children I spent time with were
extremely sick, and it opened my eyes to the suffering accompanied with ill health. Even though I
had never been in their situation, I could understand their frustration,

Personal Narrative: Volunteering At The Children's Hospital
Volunteering at the Children's Hospital Over the summer, I volunteered at the Children's Hospital of
Richmond every Tuesday and Thursday for the month of July. The Children's Hospital is a place
where kids with severe mental and physical disabilities live because they are unable to stay at their
own homes. Most of these children cannot talk and they need special equipment to help them
breathe. I would describe this facility more as a home than a hospital because the nurses and
volunteers at the hospital care treat and care for them as their own family.
My job while I was volunteering was to read and play games with these kids to make sure they feel
like they are being cared for even though they do not live with their families. Every Tuesday and
Thursday, I was given the opportunity to meet several different kids of all ages and spend time with
them like we were their best friends. Some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, I read several books such as Dr. Seuss and Bridge to Terabithia. With a few of the kids, I
was permitted to engage in doing crafts such as painting and creating clay models. Over the month, I
become acquainted with these kids and I was able learn a lot more about them. My actions made a
difference to the world because I was given the opportunity to help people who are physical
incapable of doing activities that many of us take for granted. The IB Learner Profile trait conveyed
through my actions is caring because I was committed to a service to make a positive improvement
to the lives of others. In addition, I was able show respect and empathy towards the children at the
hospital. The Global Context which is most relevant to my service is identities and relationships
because I developed a close

My Volunteering Memories
Ever since I was little some of my meaningful memories have originated from when I was at the
Nemours Hospital for Children. As I grew older, I started to go there less until this past summer, I
applied to volunteer at the hospital . I wasn't sure whether I wanted to do it or not but i applied
anyway under my mothers influence. I got into the program. Once I started my volunteering I soon
realized that this would be the event that marks my transition from childhood to adulthood. With
learning to make new friends, learning to care for children, and learning of the value of
volunteering, I had begun my transition to adulthood. My first thought when I got into the program
was if I was going to know anyone. Lucky me, I didn't. As we were introduced

The Importance Of Volunteering At Houston Foodbank
One of the most important and favorite healthcare related experience for me is volunteering at the
Houston Foodbank. I have done over 440 hours of volunteering at the Houston Foodbank. Saving
peoples lives by filling their pantries and those who are in need for food has been a blessing for me
to do. However, I am currently still volunteering and now a leader for the Student Heroes Program
for the Houston Foodbank. Many have told me I could not be a leader too soon unless you are really
dedicated to the program or you have to be a senior. Clearly then I have proved them wrong by
being dedicated to the program. Helping people has been an honor to me and I really enjoy helping
families in need for food. It makes me feel great to make people faces

Importance Of Volunteering In Healthcare
Internships, Volunteering, and Certifications
I have conducted some research that pertains to facilities management in healthcare. The majority of
the research was conducted locally within the state of Colorado. This research gave some insight
into different variations of volunteering and internship opportunities as well as professional
certifications.
Internships and Volunteering
In Colorado I was unable to find internships that related directly to facilities management. I was
however able to find a few programs from local hospitals that offer internships in facility
maintenance that offer to pay for two years of community college during the internship. At the end
of the internship the hospital will offer to hire candidates, which is a great start on the path to
becoming a facility manager. The second internship I found was at the Children hospital in Denver.
The hospital offers volunteering and internships opportunities in many different fields. On a
National scale I was able to find many different intern and volunteering opportunities that directly
related to facilities management in healthcare.
Most of the opportunities required individuals be involved in healthcare in some degree or be
enrolled in college classes with a degree program related to healthcare. Most of ... Show more

popular. One of the most popular certifications was the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager
(CHFM) from the American Society for Healthcare Engineers (ASHE). This certification was
needed in most of the available job opportunities for facility managers. This certification is a part of
the American Hospital Association which is a national organization that represents and serves all
types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and

Volunteering Plan
Volunteering is one of the many ways to give back to a community and the people within it. When a
person volunteers it is normally because he or she wants to repay the community in which he or she
currently resides. Not only does it give back to the community, but it also helps establish new
relationships with people within that community. Lending a hand to someone in need is something
that should be identified as an important task, rather than being understood as a burden. Whether it
is feeding the homeless people or helping rid the highways of litter, there are many ways to provide
assistance to someone in need. I plan to volunteer at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital as a Unit
Buddy and I will develop many benefits such as better social skills ... Show more content on

It may seem that volunteering is too much work or too time consuming. However, it is not about the
volunteer. It is about the person and community affected by the work. When one volunteers, it
should be done out of the goodness of his or her heart, not because of the benefits that result from it.
People should help others who are in need as they would want someone to help them if they were in
need. I believe that in order for a community to thrive, people must help his or her fellow man,
regardless of what it is. I look forward to volunteering at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital so I can
help children who are in pain and in need of a

Becoming A Physician's Assistant Research Paper
In my time volunteering at the hospital, I hope to gain many different experiences. However, there
are a few main ones: adaptation through enrichment and dependability. First of all, I want to get to
know and adapt to the environment of the hospital and learn how different processes work. This is a
crucial part of being in the atmosphere of a clinic. Also, the experiences that I will have at the
hospital will help me to understand the routines and entailments of the career I would like to pursue.
I hope to become a Physician's Assistant in the future and this will be the best way to know if it is
the right position for me. This enrichment of my understanding will help guide my passion for this
career path and hopefully strengthen it.

Comparing Hospital Volunteering And Job Shadowing
Most people avoid hospitals at all costs, but I enjoy hospitals and find inspiration in what they
accomplish on a daily basis. People commonly associate hospitals with negative experiences and
disregard the number of miracles that occur there. Every day, doctors and nurses work hard to save
lives, improve lives, and bring new lives into the world. Volunteering and job shadowing at two
hospitals has given me a glimpse at just how hard these professionals work to improve the lives of
complete strangers.
Everywhere you turn, there is a patient with a unique medical story, and they are all connected
through a common purpose. Looking at the many rooms lining the hospital hallways strikes up my
curiosity of every patient who ever laid in the

Hospital Volunteering Research Paper
If I were to give each of you $100 right now, wouldn't you be happy? (Attention) Well I can't do
that. This is because even when something seems free, there is always a net financial investment.
This is clearly seen through the volunteers of the hospital. Today I will show you the financial
impact that a volunteer has on the hospital and patient experience. (General Purpose) We will look at
the costs of running a volunteer program, the financial return volunteers provide, and the invaluable
impact on the patient experience in a hospital. (Preview) Volunteering is often seen as free labor.
However, there is a significant cost associated with the recruitment, training, and maintenance of the
volunteer force. A full–time staff to oversee the volunteer program is necessary as well to ensure
volunteers are being used effectively. The recruitment process varies from advertising to speaking at
schools to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Experience Of Volunteering At Children's Hospital Colorado
Throughout the years I feel that I've had a number of valuable experiences, but none that have
changed me as much as my experience volunteering at Children's Hospital Colorado. I still vividly
remember my first walking past the sliding glass doors of the pristine hospital on my very first day
volunteering during the summer of 2012.
My fourteen year old self was utterly terrified, pondering all the possible ways things could go
wrong. I remember feeling insecure and slightly clueless, unsure of where to go, what to do, and
what to say. Even with two parents who worked there, and a number of prior visits for my
orientation and testing, I suddenly felt as though I have never experienced this before. For once I

It was only a few minutes after nine but the colorful lobby of the hospital was already busy with
people. There was a bright, cheerful atmosphere that for some reason surprised me; I didn't expect
everyone to seem so lighthearted. Once I got to Creative Play, I opened the door that was made of
glass with a wooden frame. Creative Play, the hospital's daycare for patient siblings, was nearly
empty when I entered. When I stepped in there was a woman with long light brown hair and brown
eyes sitting behind a desk that was attached to a small wooden gate. She looked up and smiled at
me, and to be polite I smiled back. "Hi, I'm Regina."
"Hi Regina, are you volunteering here today?" She asked and I nodded while trying to unlock the
wooden gate. "I'm Barb."
"It's nice to meet you." I said, still keeping my smile; Barb was a person that I saw nearly every time
I volunteered that summer. Although she was older than me by quite a few years, she became a
friend that supported me like so many others. Through the program, I made new ties with new

Personal Reflection Paper On Volunteering At Riverside...
Volunteering at COSI reminded me that children of all ages and backgrounds can get excited about
learning. I was able to make a clear, tangible difference in the lives by teaching children science
through enlightening experiments. However, because there are multiple age groups that come and
visit COSI, I never knew who was going to see to my experiment. This forced me to become more
flexible and think on my feet. It is always good to plan ahead, but excruciatingly futile because you
do not always know what is going to happen in the future. Some will be good, and some will be bad.
Being more flexible has helped me adapt better to my surroundings, face challenges more easily and
most importantly become effective with changes. At Riverside Methodist Hospital, because I
worked on floor duty and discharge, I interacted with patients and heard interesting stories from
owning pet fish to fighting in World War II. I saw their smiles and I knew that even if it was for a
little while, I helped a sick patient be happy and forget about his or her troubles. Although I
connected with many patients, I also saw a patient pass away. In a way, this exposure to death at the
hospital has made me value my friends even more. Before volunteering, I prioritized academic
success, but for most patients nearing the end, nothing is more important than having people who
will miss them. This simple truth has made me realize that it is fine to go out and enjoy a movie with
friends, because while grades are important, they will not last a lifetime. The brave individuals I
encountered at the hospital, despite being on opposite ends of life from myself, have taught me how
to live. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Volunteering At Memorial Hermann
Many people don't realize the true value of volunteering, but I've come to understand the incredible
impact of volunteering through my experience at Memorial Hermann. Mahatma Gandhi once said,
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." For me, his words could
not be truer. Volunteering at Memorial Hermann transformed my life by teaching me lessons
through small moments. One such instant occurred when I went to wheel an old lady visiting her
husband. The lady and I conversed for many minutes about college, my future plans, and life in
general. When we reached the lobby, the lady wished me luck in all my future endeavors.
Coincidentally, I wheeled the lady several times after that and each time she would remember

The Impact Of Volunteerism On American Society
It is evident that the tradition of volunteerism may have a profound impact on American Society. To
some extent, we tend to agree that recruiting methods can be critical for both the decision to
volunteer and the settings in which adult people volunteer. Accordingly, Florida Hospital staff
believe that volunteers and interns are an important part of their commitment to world–class
healthcare and their goal of "extending healing through the ministry of Christ (Volunteers n.d.)." On
a significant level, we might need to find out the best recruiting strategies and implementing ideas
on how to increase such a vital volunteer population.
For instance, the best recruiting strategies will be depending on the way the hospital services feed
the immediate need of the community. We can begin with a powerful message that volunteering and
interning will save life. Accordingly, volunteering can help to provide people with ways out of
poverty, by giving them new skills and confidence, and aid social integration (James, 2018).
To consider ways to increase the hospital volunteer population is critical. As an essence, many
hospital volunteers can be newly retired and recently widow. It is important to claim that other
volunteers learn about the opportunities available through the ... Show more content on

Furthermore, making volunteers feel like part of the team is crucial to the success of their placement

volunteers by holding annual awards ceremonies, parties and socials. Indeed, the creative Excel

Why I Want To Volunteer
Ever since I was little I loved helping and taking care of people. I grew up with hospital knowledge
because my mother and my grandmother both work in the medical field at Lahey Medical Center. I
had always wanted to volunteer and create new experiences. When I took the medical assisting class
that was offered at PVMHS, it gave me the opportunity to volunteer and create long lasting
relationships. I started volunteering in the summer of two thousand and fifteen in the ambulatory
surgery department at Lahey Medical Center Peabody. Every Wednesday during the summer, and
most days when I am off from school, I am given the opportunity to volunteer. Volunteering is
something I am passionate about and it helps me create a foundation for my future medical career.

I am given many responsibilities and was expected to do them efficiently and correctly. Even though
making a bed may sound simple, it requires multiple steps that have to be followed. For example,
the sheets have to be folded a certain way and specific things need to be put on the bed before it can
be rolled away. Refilling the supplies in each patient's room helped make caring for the patient
easier for the nurses and doctors. I am also able to have patient contact by tending to their needs
such as giving them a drink, some crackers or even lending them my ear. Talking to patients made
me learn to become a good listener and to hear their stories, experiences, and advice. On top of that,
I am able to observe some surgeries in the operating room. The doctors and nurses had enough

Texas Health Presbyterian Plano Personal Statement
Volunteering at Texas Health Presbyterian Plano is my way of giving back to the community while
developing critical social skills, and gaining important medical field exposure along the way. It's an

world comes apart when their child is injured or sick. In the future, I hope to one day be a

Identify The Importance Of Primary Children's Hospitals
Primary Children's Hospital is a tremendous hospital that cares about the patients with love and
concern, "Thousands of individual children receive extraordinary care each year at Primary
Children's" (History). When it comes to pediatrics, kids need special and unique care that regular
hospitals most likely can't provide. With 33 million children who are under medicaid, 2 million of
those children are medically challenged(About Children's Hospitals). Those children require long
term care that only Children's Hospitals can provide. Though Children's Hospitals are very
successful, they would not be as successful without the help and donations the hospitals get from the
community. To identify the importance of Children's Hospitals, the public must ... Show more

Items donated to the NICU include: Cotton sleepers, cotton rompers, flannel blankets, gauze/muslin

Personal Narrative: Why I Volunteer At Work
As I stare at the crowd a sense of sorrow and fulfillment fill my body. While these two feelings
oppose each other they are the feelings that arise when I volunteer to help others. Watching these

daily for a spot in the homeless shelter across the street and a warm meal. The feeling I receive from

other activity I have participated in. Over the course of my high school career, I have been involved

The Importance Of Community Service
The efficiency of service can be looked at form multiple angles. Does the motive behind service less
than its effectiveness? I will be exploring just that in this paper by evaluating the net benefit to a
community and its lasting impact on the individual performing mandatory versus voluntary service.
I was drawn to this topic after listening to Tovia Smith's podcast, 'Selfish' Giving: Does It Count If
You Get In Return?. Smith interviews many professionals on their opinion on service done for
personal gain. In the article, Community Service, published by the Center for Justice and
Reconciliation, they define mandatory community Service as restorative justice for offenders. The
Center for Justice and Reconciliation leads a reader to believe that offenders doing community
service is no different than when a high school student does it for a college application. I believe that
the Center for Justice and Reconciliation is correct that offenders and high school students both
partake in mandatory community service but for different reasons. High school students use service
to get into college while offenders use service to make amends with the community they have
harmed. Both Smith and the Center for Justice and Reconciliation agree that service is good but
differ on what makes it efficient. While I agree with Smith's main argument surrounding service, I
believe that community service remains effective when you evaluate the motives, net benefit to
community, and a lasting impact

Essay On Hospital Volunteering
Volunteering in the medical/surgical department at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center
(PWFMC) was a rewarding and valuable experience. While volunteering, I had the opportunity to
aid hospital staff in any way possible, which usually meant performing the more menial tasks that
needed to be done. A few examples include stripping linens, cleaning rooms, and restocking nurse's
cabinets. Performing this type of work was gratifying for several reasons. Firstly, completing these
tasks allows nurses and other staff to attend to more important duties, such as attending to patients.
Lastly, it provides nurses and other staff the opportunity to take a break, if need be, during their
exhausting shifts. Besides aiding hospital staff, I had the chance to regularly interact with and help

Still, more often than not, patients simply wanted someone to talk with to make the time pass in a
more personable and enjoyable way. After all, most patients did not choose to be in the hospital and
are generally, to some extent, afraid. They are scared because their wellbeing and happiness is at
stake, and they may not fully understand their ailments; as physicians do with years of training and
experience. Beyond being advised about their condition and treatment options, patients simply want
to know that you sincerely care about their wellness and that they are not simply "patient #13" for
the day. The most important thing I learned is that physicians need to exercise sympathy, empathy,
and compassion when interacting with patients. Furthermore, I learned I possess the qualities and

Service For A Volunteer At United Hospital
Service means giving back to a community that has made me the person I am today. It means being
selfless, and doing something that benefits someone other than me. Service is more than doing work
that you are obligated to do without any reward; it is setting aside time in your busy schedule to
make a difference for the better. "Service' is not the work I would use to describe my work;
"volunteering" is more appropriate. A volunteer is defined as a person who freely offers to take part
in an enterprise or undertake a task. The key word is: offers. Any delinquent could do service; it
takes selflessness and passion to volunteer.
I was always interested in volunteering and helping others, but I did not get into it until I got
involved with the National Honor Society at my high school. The program required us to do at least
10 hours of volunteering each semester. During the time, I was also in the process of becoming to be
a volunteer at United Hospital. I already had the ambition to do volunteer work, but now I had the
opportunities to actually do it. Volunteering at a hospital was not what I had expected it to be. To be
honest, it was quite boring, because it felt like I was just sitting around most of the time waiting to
be needed. But the feeling I got after volunteering made it all worth it. Knowing that I could have
spent the day doing something else, but choosing to be here and to actually make a difference have
me a feeling of elation. Same with the work I did with the

Personal Narrative: Volunteering At Rogue Regional Medical...
For my project I have been volunteering at Rogue Regional Medical Center. I started volunteering at
the hospital in July, I now am still working to complete all of my hours. My previous hours were
spent with gaining training so I could be successful in my volunteering. Also I worked with
employees of the hospital to learn the lay out of the hospital. My project has had bumps along the
way but I have worked them out and I'm now getting close to finishing my hours. In my last
narrative I talked about how I had had trouble getting into the NICU. I still have not go any hours in
the NICU. Now it looks like I will not be working in the NICU at all in the time of the project. I'm
sad about this because the NICU is where I wanted to spend the ... Show more content on

I honestly kind of hate it, because it is a really boring job. At the south information desk, which is
where I sit, you have a computer roster of all the patients and there rooms. basicly you wait tell
someone asks you for a room number or directions. Most of what I see in the south lobby is employs
leaving the hospital. There is not a lot of foot traffic in the the evening when I'm there. There is a lot
of down time. So I would rather be in a different part of the hospital, but need the hours. Hopefully I
will be placed in a new unit in the next section of my project. I have been working with the
volunteer coordinator to find a new unit of me to work in. I also have been working to get more
hours so I can finish my project on time. Also when working with the volunteer coordinator I
figured out that she would make the right mentor for me. She is now my mentor. Even though I have
been uneventful I'm looking forward to the next next segment of my project, and I'm very thankful
for this wonderful opportunity. I hope my next stage will be more eventful. Working in the south

Case Study: Senior Community Impact Project
For our Senior Community Impact Project, we've asked to interview Ms. Imani Butler, A person
who is studying to be a doctor and is heavily involved with a hospital so that they can help guide us
with our project as a mentor. They were kind enough to take time out of their busy schedule to
answer our questions and concerns that we may have. Ms. Butler also stated that her answers would
be from a perspective of a long–term with direct volunteering point of view rather than one that was
short terms or indirect volunteering services.
One question we have asked was, How has volunteering impacted your life? Ms. Butler said that she
started volunteering in 8th grade for the NHS program and worked at a hospital near her dad's job

Volunteering Personal Statement
From the age of five, studying the human body was the main source of my excitement. As I grew up,
I became fascinated by doctors and nurses, and how diligent, skillful, passionate, and dedicated they
are to pursue a common goal: amelioration of human health. As a high school student, I have finally
realized that studying medicine would help me to pursue what I really want in my life: helping the
humankind. I have decided to apply for the Student Volunteer Program because I want to become
familiar with different occupations in a hospital, gain experience, communicate with patients, and be
able to learn from others. I believe that I will be well suited for volunteering, because I'm a
passionate leader and I'm inclined to help and work

Personal Narrative: Volunteering At St. Elizabeth...
Volunteering at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, California was an extremely
enlightening experience. For the first time, I was given the opportunity to interact with patients on a
personal level. Although as an auxiliary member I was mainly responsible for sanitizing beds,
changing linens and restocking the rooms, the ability to observe the physicians as they interacted
with the patients and the opportunity to speak with the patients was invaluable. I learned an
immensely important aspect of being a physician, which is the importance of great bedside manner.
However, I wanted to experience a greater interaction with the patients, so I enrolled in an
Emergency Medical Technician course at Shasta College and became a licensed EMT.

My Experience At The Mountain View Hospital
Reflection
This semester I volunteered my time at the Mountain View Hospital in the Women's Department,
specifically in the postpartum section. I chose this volunteer opportunity because it significantly
relates to my career path and passion. I am biological sciences major and
Psychology minor (pre–medical) and the goal of my medical career is to become an
Obstetrician/gynecologist and then potentially specialize in the fertility and infertility of women.
Throughout the course of this semester I would volunteer at Mountain View on Friday evenings. My
main job in the postpartum section was to attend to the basic needs of the new mothers, I would
provide water, ice chips, snacks, and clean linens when needed. I manned the main entrance of ...

However, I can do other things to provide care, compassion, and relief to the post–partum mothers.
On one of my days volunteering I had a particularly nice experience, which reflects how volunteers
can provide a service to their community through small acts of kindness. A mother just had her third
child, her other two children, who seemed to be no older that 5 or 6 years old, were restless and
quite out of control. There was a male figure who came and went a few times, but he didn't seem to
have any attachment to the other two children. The mother seemed overwhelmed probably because
of the exhaustion and stress of childbirth. Also, she was stuck in bed while her incisions from her C
section healed. According to the nurses, she was only permitted to walk a lap around the nurse's
station every few hours, let alone chase around her other rowdy children. So I had an idea: in the
post–partum department we have these wagons that are decorated with characters from Winnie the
Pooh and Finding Nemo. To offer the mother some rest, I asked if I could pull her children around
the Women's Department in the wagon. The mother accepted my offer and I loaded the two children,
Leah and Ryder, into the wagon. I pulled the two kids around for about 45 minutes. When I came
back to the mother's room, she thanked me many times. It was personally rewarding to help the
mother, even though it was just a small gesture.

Become a Candy Striper
According the the American Bureau of Labor Statistics, "...over 4.9 million Americans volunteered
their time in a hospital or health–related organization [in 2011]" (Kendrick, "Sector Spotlight:
Volunteer Management in Hospitals"). All those volunteers, also called Candy Stripers, made a
positive change in their medical community and I was extremely honored to be one of those
individuals. The ill stricken, misfortunate and even hospital staff need as much assistance as
possible according to my experience. I encourage college students to take action and become
hospital volunteers. When becoming a hospital volunteer, an individual will be able to assist nurses,
support patients both physically and psychologically, provide funds to your local hospital and gain
knowledge on how to serve the community positively in the future.
Nurses work day and night to maintain the health of their sickly patients. The opportunity to assist
these nurses is beneficial to the medical community. Fatigue sets in as nurses work "ten– or twelve–
hour shifts" (GEIS, "Disadvantages of a Nursing Career"). The extra help is required to maintain
quality medical care for patients thus positively enhancing the medical community. Concerning
those interested college students becoming volunteers, a vast amount of nurse assisting tasks are
available. Cleaning patients' tables, serving lunch trays, and organizing

Comparing Le Bonheur And St. Jude Children's Hospital
In order to be a volunteer, one must first realize that volunteering is a serious matter. The work put
in is supposed to be for the benefit of others, not the volunteer. Therefore, it is important that, when
choosing an organization for which to volunteer, each and every option is considered. Many
nonprofit organizations such as the Red Cross, the Susan G. Komen foundation, and St. Jude
Children's Hospital are all highly regarded options to consider. Le
Bonheur Children's Hospital, however, was the organization I was attracted to for more reasons than
one. By choosing to volunteer at Le Bonheur, a nonprofit children's hospital, I have experienced
miracles and benefited greatly from my contributions.

This generosity is Le Bonheur's primary foundation, so "for more than 50 years, children from
around the world have received exceptional care at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital," said Alan Graf,
the executive vice president and CFO of FedEx Corp., which makes donations to Le Bonheur to
provide housing for the families of patients (Le Bonheur). All of this is only one of many reasons
why Le
Bonheur is well worth any volunteer's time. Furthermore, Le Bonheur does not require volunteers to
have any particular skills or training in order to be eligible for a position.
My experience as a volunteer for Le Bonheur includes painting faces at Blue Springs, working a
silent auction for the Family Affairs Fundraiser, and helping work Le Bonheur's annual Walmart
Day. For some activities, I volunteered only a few hours of my time; however, others, such as
Walmart Day, required nearly eight hours. Time should not be an issue as long as he or she have
some to give. Le Bonheur does, however, have certain traits they expect their volunteers to have,
though they are not exactly the kind that can be taught. Katrina Patty is a perfect example of these
traits. She is a volunteer for not one, but multiple

Personal Narrative: Volunteering At The Hospital
A music box like sound twinkled with a bright tune throughout the hospital. Its tune was heard from
the quiet and calm patient rooms, through the long white hallways, and to the comfortable hospital
lobby where I stood waiting. I wonder what that sound was? Well, who cares? I've got other things
to worry about. It was my first day of volunteering at the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital. The
first tasks I was assigned were to greet, to help, and to escort visitors to their destination. My shaky
hands were clasped together in an attempt to stay calm. Jeez I hope I don't get lost while escorting a
visitor.

There were also the hospital workers whose purposes were to comfort, heal and listen to the stories
of all the people who passed through the hospital. They chose to be there to try to make the world a

Summary: Houston Methodist Summer Teen Volunteer Program
My nature to serve attracts me to the Houston Methodist Summer Teen Volunteer Program. My
goals are to gain experience and knowledge about careers in medicine, and to give back to the
community. I would like to learn a lot about how people live by the ways they get hurt or how they
deal with being sick. It's a good study of human behavior because you see people at their highest
and lowest extremes of emotion. To further my goal of pursuing a career in medicine, it is important
for me to get hands on experience of serving people and executing work in a responsible manner.
When a person donates their time, they give hope to someone who needs it. I feel that I will be also

Through the many trips that my family has taken to the hospital due to various reasons, I have
become fond of the hospital and its many wonders. After all the things that the medical field has
done for me and my family, I decided to contribute to my local hospital to volunteer and help out
those who pay visits to the hospital. Through my exposure to various clinical populations, I want to
improve my ability to serve others in this capacity that can guide me towards the medical profession
in the future.
I am hoping that I get exposed to what a doctor does and (1) see that it's not like the TV shows and
(2) hope that I have conversations with the doctors that could provide me with an insight into what it
really is to practice medicine. I want to see if I am really prepared to pursue a field of medicine in
the future and am hoping the experience at the Houston Methodist hospital will help guide my
desire. From what I have gathered from my family doctors, it involves a lot of hard work,
determination and long hours. I want to be able to challenge myself and see if I am ready for this
profession or not? I believe that my time volunteering should give me a good sense of how things

Benefits Of Volunteering At St. David 's Medical Center
Anne Frank once said, "no one has ever become poor by giving." "Giving" incorporates so many
things: giving money, giving food, giving clothes, giving gifts, etc. Personally, I see time as the most
significant thing one can give to others. Volunteering is, at its core, giving your time to help others.
Volunteering has always been a big part of my life; at a younger age I would help the ladies in the
cafeteria serve lunch after Sunday school and clean up the main hall afterwards, in high school I was
in organizations that presented me with ample opportunities to volunteer, and presently I still
manage to volunteer every semester in college. Aside from keeping volunteering as a constant
aspect of my life, I would like to volunteer at St. David's Medical center because I would be able to
learn about working in a hospital and in the medical field as I volunteer. I am currently pursuing a
Bachelor of Science in biology and graduate school is a must, but I have yet to decide of medical
school is the path I want to embark on. Volunteering at a medical center would give me the insight
on not only particular jobs in various departments, but I would also have the privilege of
experiencing the atmosphere of a hospital. This experience would be a true blessing in so many
ways. Helping others and giving back is always my main goal when volunteering. Understanding
the story behind the cause and having the ability to empathize is a big part of every volunteer job.

Serve Of Fail Analysis
"Serve of Fail" by Eggers brings up many interesting points as to why volunteering should be a
requirement for college students. "Colleges should create in their students a lifelong commitment to
volunteering," he said while pointing out that college students are uniquely suited to volunteering.
He stated that America would gain millions of volunteer hours and it would help colleges bridge the
gap between the academic world and the world beyond it. I agree that colleges should make
volunteering a requirements for students and I support Eggers argument, but have a different opinion
on some of his points.
Eggers brings up a point that colleges should instill in their students a lifelong commitment to
volunteering. Given that all people are different, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of college students in America make that number plausible. Those 10 hours a year could
be put to good use by volunteering and doing something good for the community. Volunteering
would give the students a better look at the "real world".
"Volunteering could help colleges bridge the gap between the academic world and the world beyond
it" says Eggers. Volunteering could be done at many venues and by volunteering at work places or in
a field they prefer to, students can get to know that field better. Acquiring that perspective will
connect the students to that field of work allowing them to gain experience.
Although I don't agree with Eggers that colleges should be responsible for instilling in their students
a love for volunteering and that college students are suited to volunteering, he brings up some good
points. Requiring college students to volunteer would give America millions of volunteer hours and
will connect students to the workplace. I agree that required volunteering will be a benefit to
American college students, and the country as a whole, therefore I support Eggers

Hospital Volunteering
In my community many people do not understand the struggles of kids with serious illnesses and the
financial and mental toll it has in the parents. To have more understanding of the problem I
encourage people to volunteer at hospitals to gain more knowledge about the problem.
Visiting a hospital and seeing what the children need or playing with them makes them very happy.
Volunteering at a hospital lets me see the hospital from an insider's perspective. I am considering a
career in a health–related field, volunteering at a hospital provides me with the chance to work with
medical professionals and see what their jobs are like in the real world. My first day at the children's

Volunteering Job Analysis
I have only had two different jobs in my life. Both required much of my time and caused me to be
exhausted at the end of the day. As a student in high school, I knew that volunteering and having a
job would help build my resume. I knew that that would help put me in a better position to get a job
and start my career. Volunteering and working are both very different experiences but cost lots of
time and effort. Volunteering at upper Chesapeake hospital required me to wake up at seven and
catch a bus. After I arrived I would go to the second floor to work. My tasks consisted of giving
food and water to patients who requested it. I also made sure that each bed had a blanket and a
pillow. After I made my rounds I would stand around and talk to the staff. I would wait patiently for
a patent to request something. If no one did I would sit and make reminder phone calls to patients
who were at home. Overall this job required a lot of standing and communication in order to be
done well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However I was not able to walk around and mingle with people. I had to stay stationary and serve
customers as they stood in line . I would swipe cards and count money as customers watches me.
Unlike volunteering I would get paid for my labor and efforts. also, I was not allowed to give
anything away for free. Communication skills were necessary like for volunteering because I had to
make small talk with customers. The Most enjoyable Job was the cashier. I was able to see and talk
to knew people every day. I would occasionally see my friends walk in the store and by small items.
It was pleasant to see faces that I recognized and be around people who were generally happy.
Unlike in the hospital were people were dying and depressed because of their ailments the store was
generally happy. The hospital also did not smell good and neither did the people. However, at the
store people were clean and moving

Learned Through Volunteering

  • 1. Learned Through Volunteering I learned many different skills through volunteering at Maine Medical Center. I learned what it takes to become a doctor at Maine Medical Center and why it is a leading hospital (WHERE?). Volunteering made me realize that this is the only hospital I would like to work at. The staff within the hospital makes it a wonderful place to be a part of, even as a volunteer. The many people I worked with made me feel like family. They were willing to answer any question, and teach me anything they knew. Through volunteering, I learned many skills that I will always use while working the rest of my life. Working in the medical field requires for someone to work with new people, be independent and serve people. These are things I learned while volunteering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. My Volunteering Experience At Children's Hospital Colorado Throughout the years I feel that I've had a number of valuable experiences, my most significant experience is my volunteering experience at Children's Hospital Colorado. I still remember feeling utterly terrified on my first day volunteering, pondering all the possible ways things could go wrong. I suddenly felt as though I have never experienced this before. I was on my own, responsible for myself and all of my actions. On my first day volunteering, I found myself doing deliveries on the sterile patient floors. There was a type of silence that made me nervous. I couldn't hear a word of casual chatter, or people carelessly laughing. It felt completely different from what I was used to hearing on a day to day bases. I went on my search to find the room that I was delivering the gift to, while following all the rules that were established at my orientation. At the time, the task seemed odd, I didn't expect it to be something I would be doing when I started out. Everything seemed new, and different, it allowed me to view thing that differed from the protected scope I looked through my entire life. • 9. Volunteering At Mattel Children's Hospital Service to the community has been important to my family for as long I can remember. My earliest recollections of community service were at 10 years of age when I would join my father in cleaning up the town pond, and my mother in feeding the homeless. With this early introduction to service, I find being a person for others natural, and have always found ways in which I can give back. Volunteering at Mattel Children's Hospital was my first clinical experience, and the meaningful impact I made there will always stay close to my heart. Many of the children I spent time with were extremely sick, and it opened my eyes to the suffering accompanied with ill health. Personal Narrative: Volunteering At The Children's Hospital Volunteering at the Children's Hospital Over the summer, I volunteered at the Children's Hospital of Richmond every Tuesday and Thursday for the month of July. The Children's Hospital is a place where kids with severe mental and physical disabilities live because they are unable to stay at their own homes. Most of these children cannot talk and they need special equipment to help them breathe. I would describe this facility more as a home than a hospital because the nurses and volunteers at the hospital care treat and care for them as their own family. My job while I was volunteering was to read and play games with these kids to make sure they feel like they are being cared for even though they do not live with their families. The majority of the research was conducted locally within the state of Colorado. This research gave some insight into different variations of volunteering and internship opportunities as well as professional certifications. Internships and Volunteering In Colorado I was unable to find internships that related directly to facilities management. I was however able to find a few programs from local hospitals that offer internships in facility maintenance that offer to pay for two years of community college during the internship. At the end of the internship the hospital will offer to hire candidates, which is a great start on the path to becoming a facility manager. The second internship I found was at the Children hospital in Denver. The hospital offers volunteering and internships opportunities in many different fields. When a person volunteers it is normally because he or she wants to repay the community in which he or she currently resides. Not only does it give back to the community, but it also helps establish new relationships with people within that community. Lending a hand to someone in need is something that should be identified as an important task, rather than being understood as a burden. I still vividly remember my first walking past the sliding glass doors of the pristine hospital on my very first day volunteering during the summer of 2012. My fourteen year old self was utterly terrified, pondering all the possible ways things could go wrong. I remember feeling insecure and slightly clueless, unsure of where to go, what to do, and what to say. When I stepped in there was a woman with long light brown hair and brown eyes sitting behind a desk that was attached to a small wooden gate. She looked up and smiled at me, and to be polite I smiled back. "Hi, I'm Regina." "Hi Regina, are you volunteering here today?" She asked and I nodded while trying to unlock the wooden gate. "I'm Barb." "It's nice to meet you." I said, still keeping my smile; Barb was a person that I saw nearly every time I volunteered that summer. • 49. Personal Reflection Paper On Volunteering At Riverside... Volunteering at COSI reminded me that children of all ages and backgrounds can get excited about learning. I was able to make a clear, tangible difference in the lives by teaching children science through enlightening experiments. However, because there are multiple age groups that come and visit COSI, I never knew who was going to see to my experiment. This forced me to become more flexible and think on my feet. It is always good to plan ahead, but excruciatingly futile because you do not always know what is going to happen in the future. Some will be good, and some will be bad. Being more flexible has helped me adapt better to my surroundings, face challenges more easily and most importantly become effective with changes. At Riverside Methodist Hospital, because I worked on floor duty and discharge, I interacted with patients and heard interesting stories from owning pet fish to fighting in World War II. I saw their smiles and I knew that even if it was for a little while, I helped a sick patient be happy and forget about his or her troubles. Although I connected with many patients, I also saw a patient pass away. In a way, this exposure to death at the hospital has made me value my friends even more. Before volunteering, I prioritized academic success, but for most patients nearing the end, nothing is more important than having people who will miss them. This simple truth has made me realize that it is fine to go out and enjoy a movie with friends, because while grades are important, they will not last a lifetime. • 57. The Impact Of Volunteerism On American Society It is evident that the tradition of volunteerism may have a profound impact on American Society. To some extent, we tend to agree that recruiting methods can be critical for both the decision to volunteer and the settings in which adult people volunteer. Accordingly, Florida Hospital staff believe that volunteers and interns are an important part of their commitment to world–class healthcare and their goal of "extending healing through the ministry of Christ (Volunteers n.d.)." On a significant level, we might need to find out the best recruiting strategies and implementing ideas on how to increase such a vital volunteer population. For instance, the best recruiting strategies will be depending on the way the hospital services feed the immediate need of the community. We can begin with a powerful message that volunteering and interning will save life. Accordingly, volunteering can help to provide people with ways out of poverty, by giving them new skills and confidence, and aid social integration (James, 2018). • 81. The Importance Of Community Service The efficiency of service can be looked at form multiple angles. Does the motive behind service less than its effectiveness? I will be exploring just that in this paper by evaluating the net benefit to a community and its lasting impact on the individual performing mandatory versus voluntary service. I was drawn to this topic after listening to Tovia Smith's podcast, 'Selfish' Giving: Does It Count If You Get In Return?. Smith interviews many professionals on their opinion on service done for personal gain. In the article, Community Service, published by the Center for Justice and Reconciliation, they define mandatory community Service as restorative justice for offenders. The Center for Justice and Reconciliation leads a reader to believe that offenders doing community service is no different than when a high school student does it for a college application. I believe that the Center for Justice and Reconciliation is correct that offenders and high school students both partake in mandatory community service but for different reasons. High school students use service to get into college while offenders use service to make amends with the community they have harmed. Both Smith and the Center for Justice and Reconciliation agree that service is good but differ on what makes it efficient. While I agree with Smith's main argument surrounding service, I believe that community service remains effective when you evaluate the motives, net benefit to community, and a lasting impact ... While volunteering, I had the opportunity to aid hospital staff in any way possible, which usually meant performing the more menial tasks that needed to be done. A few examples include stripping linens, cleaning rooms, and restocking nurse's cabinets. Performing this type of work was gratifying for several reasons. Firstly, completing these tasks allows nurses and other staff to attend to more important duties, such as attending to patients. Lastly, it provides nurses and other staff the opportunity to take a break, if need be, during their exhausting shifts. He has gained a vast array of knowledge when he was shadowing the PAs and me in the general surgery clinic. He has acquainted himself with the forms required for surgical procedures such as the informed consent. In addition, he observed how the PAs explain the surgical procedure to the patient and inform them about the benefits and risks before they sign the informed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 101. Service For A Volunteer At United Hospital Service means giving back to a community that has made me the person I am today. It means being selfless, and doing something that benefits someone other than me. Service is more than doing work that you are obligated to do without any reward; it is setting aside time in your busy schedule to make a difference for the better. "Service' is not the work I would use to describe my work; "volunteering" is more appropriate. A volunteer is defined as a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. The key word is: offers. Any delinquent could do service; it takes selflessness and passion to volunteer. I was always interested in volunteering and helping others, but I did not get into it until I got involved with the National Honor Society at my high school. The program required us to do at least 10 hours of volunteering each semester. During the time, I was also in the process of becoming to be a volunteer at United Hospital. I already had the ambition to do volunteer work, but now I had the opportunities to actually do it. Volunteering at a hospital was not what I had expected it to be. To be honest, it was quite boring, because it felt like I was just sitting around most of the time waiting to be needed. But the feeling I got after volunteering made it all worth it. Knowing that I could have spent the day doing something else, but choosing to be here and to actually make a difference have me a feeling of elation. Same with the work I did with the ... I started volunteering at the hospital in July, I now am still working to complete all of my hours. My previous hours were spent with gaining training so I could be successful in my volunteering. Also I worked with employees of the hospital to learn the lay out of the hospital. My project has had bumps along the way but I have worked them out and I'm now getting close to finishing my hours. In my last narrative I talked about how I had had trouble getting into the NICU. I still have not go any hours in the NICU. Now it looks like I will not be working in the NICU at all in the time of the project. I'm sad about this because the NICU is where I wanted to spend the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the south information desk, which is where I sit, you have a computer roster of all the patients and there rooms. basicly you wait tell someone asks you for a room number or directions. Most of what I see in the south lobby is employs leaving the hospital. There is not a lot of foot traffic in the the evening when I'm there. There is a lot of down time. So I would rather be in a different part of the hospital, but need the hours. Hopefully I will be placed in a new unit in the next section of my project. I have been working with the volunteer coordinator to find a new unit of me to work in. I also have been working to get more hours so I can finish my project on time. Also when working with the volunteer coordinator I figured out that she would make the right mentor for me. She is now my mentor. Even though I have been uneventful I'm looking forward to the next next segment of my project, and I'm very thankful for this wonderful opportunity. I hope my next stage will be more eventful. Case Study: Senior Community Impact Project For our Senior Community Impact Project, we've asked to interview Ms. Imani Butler, A person who is studying to be a doctor and is heavily involved with a hospital so that they can help guide us with our project as a mentor. They were kind enough to take time out of their busy schedule to answer our questions and concerns that we may have. Ms. Butler also stated that her answers would be from a perspective of a long–term with direct volunteering point of view rather than one that was short terms or indirect volunteering services. One question we have asked was, How has volunteering impacted your life? • 113. Volunteering Personal Statement From the age of five, studying the human body was the main source of my excitement. As I grew up, I became fascinated by doctors and nurses, and how diligent, skillful, passionate, and dedicated they are to pursue a common goal: amelioration of human health. As a high school student, I have finally realized that studying medicine would help me to pursue what I really want in my life: helping the humankind. I have decided to apply for the Student Volunteer Program because I want to become familiar with different occupations in a hospital, gain experience, communicate with patients, and be able to learn from others. I believe that I will be well suited for volunteering, because I'm a passionate leader and I'm inclined to help and work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the first time, I was given the opportunity to interact with patients on a personal level. Although as an auxiliary member I was mainly responsible for sanitizing beds, changing linens and restocking the rooms, the ability to observe the physicians as they interacted with the patients and the opportunity to speak with the patients was invaluable. I learned an immensely important aspect of being a physician, which is the importance of great bedside manner. However, I wanted to experience a greater interaction with the patients, so I enrolled in an Emergency Medical Technician course at Shasta College and became a licensed EMT. ... • 121. My Experience At The Mountain View Hospital Reflection This semester I volunteered my time at the Mountain View Hospital in the Women's Department, specifically in the postpartum section. I chose this volunteer opportunity because it significantly relates to my career path and passion. I am biological sciences major and Psychology minor (pre–medical) and the goal of my medical career is to become an Obstetrician/gynecologist and then potentially specialize in the fertility and infertility of women. Throughout the course of this semester I would volunteer at Mountain View on Friday evenings. My main job in the postpartum section was to attend to the basic needs of the new mothers, I would provide water, ice chips, snacks, and clean linens when needed. I manned the main entrance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I can do other things to provide care, compassion, and relief to the post–partum mothers. On one of my days volunteering I had a particularly nice experience, which reflects how volunteers can provide a service to their community through small acts of kindness. A mother just had her third child, her other two children, who seemed to be no older that 5 or 6 years old, were restless and quite out of control. There was a male figure who came and went a few times, but he didn't seem to have any attachment to the other two children. The mother seemed overwhelmed probably because of the exhaustion and stress of childbirth. Also, she was stuck in bed while her incisions from her C section healed. According to the nurses, she was only permitted to walk a lap around the nurse's station every few hours, let alone chase around her other rowdy children. So I had an idea: in the post–partum department we have these wagons that are decorated with characters from Winnie the Pooh and Finding Nemo. To offer the mother some rest, I asked if I could pull her children around the Women's Department in the wagon. The mother accepted my offer and I loaded the two children, Leah and Ryder, into the wagon. I pulled the two kids around for about 45 minutes. When I came back to the mother's room, she thanked me many times. It was personally rewarding to help the mother, even though it was just a small gesture. I do not see the volunteer coordinator ... • 125. Become A Candy Striper : The American Bureau Of Labor... Loridee Fernandez Professor Swanson Write for English 17 November 2014 Become a Candy Striper According the the American Bureau of Labor Statistics, "...over 4.9 million Americans volunteered their time in a hospital or health–related organization [in 2011]" (Kendrick, "Sector Spotlight: Volunteer Management in Hospitals"). All those volunteers, also called Candy Stripers, made a positive change in their medical community and I was extremely honored to be one of those individuals. The ill stricken, misfortunate and even hospital staff need as much assistance as possible according to my experience. I encourage college students to take action and become hospital volunteers. When becoming a hospital volunteer, an individual will be able to assist nurses, support patients both physically and psychologically, provide funds to your local hospital and gain knowledge on how to serve the community positively in the future. Nurses work day and night to maintain the health of their sickly patients. The opportunity to assist these nurses is beneficial to the medical community. Fatigue sets in as nurses work "ten– or twelve– hour shifts" (GEIS, "Disadvantages of a Nursing Career"). The extra help is required to maintain quality medical care for patients thus positively enhancing the medical community. Concerning those interested college students becoming volunteers, a vast amount of nurse assisting tasks are available. Cleaning patients' tables, serving lunch trays, and organizing ... • 129. Comparing Le Bonheur And St. Jude Children's Hospital In order to be a volunteer, one must first realize that volunteering is a serious matter. The work put in is supposed to be for the benefit of others, not the volunteer. Therefore, it is important that, when choosing an organization for which to volunteer, each and every option is considered. Many nonprofit organizations such as the Red Cross, the Susan G. Komen foundation, and St. Jude Children's Hospital are all highly regarded options to consider. Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, however, was the organization I was attracted to for more reasons than one. By choosing to volunteer at Le Bonheur, a nonprofit children's hospital, I have experienced miracles and benefited greatly from my contributions. Le Bonheur is a nonprofit children's hospital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This generosity is Le Bonheur's primary foundation, so "for more than 50 years, children from around the world have received exceptional care at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital," said Alan Graf, the executive vice president and CFO of FedEx Corp., which makes donations to Le Bonheur to provide housing for the families of patients (Le Bonheur). All of this is only one of many reasons why Le Bonheur is well worth any volunteer's time. Furthermore, Le Bonheur does not require volunteers to have any particular skills or training in order to be eligible for a position. My experience as a volunteer for Le Bonheur includes painting faces at Blue Springs, working a silent auction for the Family Affairs Fundraiser, and helping work Le Bonheur's annual Walmart Day. For some activities, I volunteered only a few hours of my time; however, others, such as Walmart Day, required nearly eight hours. Time should not be an issue as long as he or she have some to give. Le Bonheur does, however, have certain traits they expect their volunteers to have, though they are not exactly the kind that can be taught. Katrina Patty is a perfect example of these traits. Its tune was heard from the quiet and calm patient rooms, through the long white hallways, and to the comfortable hospital lobby where I stood waiting. I wonder what that sound was? Well, who cares? To further my goal of pursuing a career in medicine, it is important for me to get hands on experience of serving people and executing work in a responsible manner. • 141. Benefits Of Volunteering At St. David 's Medical Center Anne Frank once said, "no one has ever become poor by giving." "Giving" incorporates so many things: giving money, giving food, giving clothes, giving gifts, etc. Personally, I see time as the most significant thing one can give to others. Volunteering is, at its core, giving your time to help others. Volunteering has always been a big part of my life; at a younger age I would help the ladies in the cafeteria serve lunch after Sunday school and clean up the main hall afterwards, in high school I was in organizations that presented me with ample opportunities to volunteer, and presently I still manage to volunteer every semester in college. Aside from keeping volunteering as a constant aspect of my life, I would like to volunteer at St. David's Medical center because I would be able to learn about working in a hospital and in the medical field as I volunteer. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in biology and graduate school is a must, but I have yet to decide of medical school is the path I want to embark on. Volunteering at a medical center would give me the insight on not only particular jobs in various departments, but I would also have the privilege of experiencing the atmosphere of a hospital. This experience would be a true blessing in so many ways. Helping others and giving back is always my main goal when volunteering. Understanding the story behind the cause and having the ability to empathize is a big part of every volunteer job. Knowing that your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"Colleges should create in their students a lifelong commitment to volunteering," he said while pointing out that college students are uniquely suited to volunteering. He stated that America would gain millions of volunteer hours and it would help colleges bridge the gap between the academic world and the world beyond it. The amount of college students in America make that number plausible. Those 10 hours a year could be put to good use by volunteering and doing something good for the community. Volunteering could be done at many venues and by volunteering at work places or in a field they prefer to, students can get to know that field better. Acquiring that perspective will connect the students to that field of work allowing them to gain experience. Although I don't agree with Eggers that colleges should be responsible for instilling in their students a love for volunteering and that college students are suited to volunteering, he brings up some good points. As a student in high school, I knew that volunteering and having a job would help build my resume. I knew that that would help put me in a better position to get a job and start my career. Volunteering and working are both very different experiences but cost lots of time and effort. Volunteering at upper Chesapeake hospital required me to wake up at seven and catch a bus. After I arrived I would go to the second floor to work. My tasks consisted of giving food and water to patients who requested it. I also made sure that each bed had a blanket and a pillow. After I made my rounds I would stand around and talk to the staff. I would wait patiently for a patent to request something.
