Lean manufacturing aims to eliminate waste from processes by removing any activities that do not add value for the customer. Research shows that 60% of production activities in a typical manufacturing operation are considered waste. SENAE is Ecuador's national customs service responsible for regulating foreign trade according to customs policies and laws. It implements values of customs facilitation, control, cooperation and information exchange. Ecuapass is Ecuador's automated customs administration system introduced in 2012 based on a South Korean model. It facilitates foreign trade operations through modules for foreign trade, cargo operations, information services, and risk management. Its electronic single window tool called VUE allows users to submit customs requirements and documents online in order to reduce time and costs for foreign trade procedures.

2. WHAT IS LEAN MANUFACTURING?
 Lean manufacturing involves never ending efforts to
eliminate or reduce waste or any activity that
consumes resources without adding value in
design, manufacturing, distribution, and customer
service processes.

3. WHAT IS WASTE?
 Waste is defined as any activity that does not add
value from the customer’s perspective. According to
research conducted by the Lean Enterprise
Research Centre (LERC), fully 60% of production
activities in a typical manufacturing operation are
waste – they add no value at all for the customer.
