Bernard Keys and Thomas defined,
“ Leadership is the process of influencing and supporting
others to work enthusiastically towards achieving
objectives“
Alan Keith Stated that, Leadership is ultimately about
creating a way for people to contribute to make
something”
“Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to
act towards achieving a common goal.”
4. Autocratic or Authoritarian Leadership Style
Under the autocratic leadership style, all decision
making powers are centralized in the leader, as with
dictator leader.
They do not entertain any suggestion or initiatives from
subordinates.
5. Characteristics of Autocratic Leadership
. Centralized Decision making
. No input from group members
. Dictate works methods and processes
. Leave group feeling like they are not trusted with decisions or
important tasks
. Highly structured and very rigid environments
. Discourages creativity and out- of – box thinking
. Establish rules and tens to be clearly outlined and
communicated.

7. Discussion
Autocratic leadership does have some potential pitfalls,
leaders can learn to use elements of this style wisely. For
example, an autocratic style can be used effectively
situations where the leader is the most knowledgeable
member of the group or has access to information that
other members of the group do not.
8. Participative ( Democratic) Leadership Style
Democratic Leadership, also known as participative
leadership or shared leadership, is a leadership
style in which members of the group participate in
decision making process.

12. Delegative ( laissez-faire) leadership style
Laissez- faire leadership, also known as
delegative leadership, is a type of leadership
style in which leaders are hands- off and allow
group members to make decisions.

• Decisions are left to employees
• Comfort with mistakes
• Accountability falls to the leaders

Laissez- faire leadership may be most effective
during the early phases when a idea is being
created. Once the design is in place and ready
for production, however, it may be best to
switch to a style that involves more direction
and oversight.
16. Transformational Leadership Style
Transformational Leadership is a leadership style
that can inspire positive changes in those who
follow. Transformational leaders are generally
energetic, enthusiastic and passionate. Not only are
these leaders concerned and involved in the
process, but they are also focused on helping every
member of the group succeed.

While transformational leadership is often viewed as
one of the best approaches to leadership, that doesn’t
mean that it is necessarily right for every situation. For
example, when group members need more guidance and
direction, it can be more effective to utilize a more
transactional approach.
20. Transactional Leadership Style
Transactional Leadership is a leadership style that
utilizes rewards and punishments to motivate and direct
followers. This approach to leadership, also sometimes
referred to as managerial leadership, emphasizes the
importance of structure, organization, supervision,
performance and outcomes.

. Rewards and punishments motivate workers.
. Obeying the instructions and commands of the leader is
the primary goal of the followers

Bureaucratic Leadership Style is a type of Leadership
that leads through a clear chain of command, fixed
official duties, and strict regulations under a hierarchy of
authority.

25. Coercive Leadership Style
Coercive Leadership Style is a very direct form of leadership built
on instructing employees what to do and how to do it. All while
expecting strict compliance.
It used power to force employees to follow laws or to obey instruction.
