Leadership Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the subject of leadership is a nuanced task that demands careful
consideration and depth of understanding. Exploring leadership within the context of real-life
examples requires extensive research, critical analysis, and eloquent articulation.
Firstly, identifying suitable examples of leadership necessitates sifting through a myriad of
historical, political, business, and societal contexts to pinpoint instances that effectively illustrate
various facets of leadership styles, strategies, and outcomes. This process demands not only
comprehensive knowledge but also discernment to select examples that resonate with the
intended message of the essay.
Furthermore, analyzing these examples entails more than just narrating events; it involves
dissecting the intricacies of leadership dynamics, including decision-making processes,
communication strategies, team management techniques, and the impact of leadership on
organizational or societal outcomes. Delving deep into these aspects requires critical thinking
skills and the ability to draw insightful conclusions from the presented examples.
Additionally, crafting a coherent and compelling essay requires skillful writing to effectively
convey ideas, provide relevant context, and maintain the reader's engagement throughout. This
involves structuring the essay logically, presenting arguments persuasively, and using language
that is both clear and captivating.
In conclusion, writing an essay on leadership examples demands a combination of research
prowess, critical analysis, and eloquent expression. It is a challenging endeavor that requires
dedication, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Analysis Of Psychology Advertisement
While flipping through Psychology Today I can t help, but notice this magazine has
about fifty percent of its pages dedicated to ads. There were sixty three individuals
that either encompassed a part a of page or a whole page. The advertisements were
scattered throughout the magazine, however latter half of the magazine primarily
had the essays and articles. The majority of advertisements in this magazine included:
fifteen ads on health supplements/medications, fifteen ads on rehabilitation/therapy
centers, seven on psychologybooks, fifteen on starting a career in psychology. The
magazine also had three ads on insurance, two ads on a medical device to treat
anxiety, and one ad on a mental healthcourse, sexual furniture and pheromone booster.

Accident In Houston Essay
One Step Too Many Leads to a Devastating Car vs Pedestrian Accident in Houston
Running across a busy city street is never a good idea as this situation can only lead
to car accidents in which the pedestrian will always be the loser. This risky maneuver
becomes even more dangerous when you try to do so at 2:30 in the morning, as one
Houston man found out earlier this month. The man in question was attempting to
bolt across Beechnut where it intersects with Wednesbury in southwest Houston.
Sadly, the man in question failed to notice the fact there was a car coming toward
the intersection on Beechnut from the east. The driver of the car was unable to stop
in time and ended up hitting the pedestrian. Luckily, if there could be any luck in car

According to the 2014 census bureau report, the city s population stood at 2.239
million. With so many people living and working in and around the city, there are
very few hours of the day or night when there is little or no traffic. According to the
latest car accident statistics released by the Texas Department of Transportation
(TxDOT), in 2015 there were 550 pedestrians versus car accidents resulting in the
death of the pedestrian in 2015. The number of these car accidents shows an
increase of 12.7 percent from the previous years. To bring these numbers more into
perspective, according to the same report, not a single day in 2015 passed without
at least one vehicle related fatality. The total death toll on Texas roads and highways
involving motor vehicles reached 3,531 an increase of 0.14 percent over the previous
year. Much like any other type of car accident those involving pedestrians are
preventable. It takes vigilance not only on the part of the driver but also of the
pedestrian. In this particular accident, it was noted that the pedestrian did not appear
to be paying attention as he stepped out into the street. One could expect young
children to not being paying attention when running out into the street. This is
something that most Houston drivers have long since become used to watching and
being prepared for during daylight
Advantages Of Barclays
Sustainable competitive advantage is the point of convergence of a corporate

noteworthy worth, either by method for lower prices or by giving more noteworthy
advantages and service that legitimises higher prices. What s more, the objective of
Barclays is to accomplish a sustainable competitive advantage. Dincer et al (2014)
recognised that it exists when the firm can convey the same advantages as
competitors however at a lower cost, or convey advantages that surpass those of
contending products. In this way, it empowers the firm to make predominant quality

The Human Body Transports Oxygen And Nutrients
Throughout...
The human body transports oxygen and nutrients throughout the body using the
vascular system1. When a person acquires an injury that causes him/her to bleed, the
body has a natural defense to repair it1; this is the basis of hemostasis, the formation
and/or dissolution of blood clots2. Localizing and amplifying coagulationproteases
and their subsequent cofactor complexes maintain hemostasis3. The inhibition and/or
modification of these same coagulation proteases throughout the rest of the body,
away from the trauma site, also helps to maintain hemostasis3.
Coagulation, a cascade system abundant in fibrin and thrombin proteins that are vital
to hemostasis4, mainly occurs on the vascular surface because the rupture on the
surface causes a successive activation of trypsin like serine proteases which lead to
the release of thrombin and clot formation3. The coagulation system may be activated
via the intrinsic pathway, where plasma factor XII triggers coagulation to begin, or
the extrinsic pathway, where thromboplastin released from tissues stimulates plasma
factor VII once each pathway activates plasma factor X, a common pathway leads to
the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin4 (this conversion is a function of which
thrombin is responsible for3). To prevent excessive bleeding (which occurs when
there is a scarcity of thrombin5) and/or unwanted blood clots (which occurs when
there is a plethora of thrombin5), coagulation must therefore be highly regulated3.
If hemostasis is

Block Schedule Benefits
Why Block Schedules Are Beneficial to High School Students
I currently attend a class at Northwest Vista College, which is two days of the week
and is and seventy five minutes long. This class is more difficult than any other
class I have, yet I have higher success in this class than my others. I am more
successful because I have more time to study for such class, and because I am
exposed to more interaction with my teacher. Not only is there more study time, my
teacher equally has time to prepare more effective lessons, and activities. As opposed
to my normal high school schedule consisting of seven classes, around forty five
minutes each, five days a week. In which I struggle more with those classes as each
day there is a new lesson taught, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

John Swift s A Modest Proposal
In Jonathan Swift s satirical work, A Modest Proposal, the reader is presented with
a horrible concept using extremely effective language and logos; Swift uses strong
speech, rational tone, and complex grammar to convince readers that eating children
will solve all the problems in 19th century Ireland. Swift s overall goals in his
pamphlet, however, is not to actually encourage eating babies, which is why it is of
satire, but is instead to raise awareness of Ireland s conditions for living, failing
political figures, and the tyranny brought by England. Swift states in his sub title, For
Preventing the Children of poor People in Ireland, from being a Burden to their
Parents or Country; and for making them beneficial to the Public ... Show more

The idea is so intense that it demonstrates the overall irony of the piece. It is also
worth pointing out that this line comes late in the essay. Swift lulls the reader into
a false sense of trust by beginning with descriptions of the position of the poor in
Ireland. The reader may think at first that this is a serious essay, making the point
all the more loud when it eventually appears. The idea itself comes from a very
knowing American, which is a small attack on the Americas and American colonies.
Rhetorically, the first couple of quotes stated are the strongest in bringing attention
to Ireland s issues. It s comical in the fact that he uses such a horrible idea to raise
the red flags in the minds of the Irish people. In an earlier paragraph Swift writes, It
is a melancholy object to those who walk through this great town, or travel in the
country, when they see the streets, the roads, and cabin doors crowded with beggars
of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags, ad importuning
every passenger for an alms (Swift par.1). This quote should be understood as a
highlight to the poor living conditions of Ireland. The quote is interesting because
Swift does two things in it; he continues building his satire, which is the world the
reader will be thinking about, while nonchalantly hinting the underlining theme of
poor
Bathroom Laws
May 13, 2016, the Obama Administration sent thousands of letters to public schools
defending transgender rights. This sparked a national debate over bathroom laws
determining if transgender individuals should be allowed to use the public bathroom
or locker room of their choice. People are divided on the issues of what bathroom or
locker room transgenderpeople utilize as some believe that they should use the
bathroom based on their biological sex while others believe that they should use the
bathroom corresponding to their genderidentity. Some people are against the usage
of bathrooms based on gender identity feeling that it would be better to have usage
based on the gender listed on birth certificates or single stall unisex bathrooms. Many
people claim that perverts, peeping toms, and rapists could abuse the law in order to
attack women and young girls in public restroomsand locker... Show more content on

An estimate from the U.S. Department of Justice states that one in every two
transgender people are sexually assaulted or abused within their lifetime.
Transgender activists claim that transgender people experience higher levels of
violence and harassment, and, when using the bathroom corresponding to their
biological sex are at an even greater risk. The supposed threats that these protections
pose to others are largely nonexistent; in fact, it is transgender people who are far
more likely to be the target of violence than any random user of the ladies room
(.Eisner).
Transgender people feel uncomfortable in bathrooms if forced to use the bathroom
corresponding to their birth certificate. One transgender person said I do not plan on
frequenting any women s restrooms now or anytime in the future. Doing so would
guarantee two things: that I would be uncomfortable, and that the women sharing the
bathroom with me could be
Geographic Information Systems ( Gis )
Since the dawn of time, humanity has always been interested in discovering,
locating and delineating the whereabouts of the world in which it lives. This is why
man decided to create the map. For centuries, maps were created by hand to depict
various known locations locally or globally. Now, with the advent of new technology,
maps can easily be generated by a computer, especially through using GIS
(Geographic Information Systems) software.
I have always been fascinated by maps, geography, and understanding how
everything is arranged in the world. Since GIS allows for the creation of maps
depicting the arrangements of an area in the world using geographic data, there is
nothing else in this world I could be more passionate about.
Geographic Information Systems pose many benefits to mankind. For instance, it has
helped farms adequately provide the food we need for nourishment. GIS helps
farmers make informed decisions on the best locations to farm and what benefits the
lands can provide them, hence increasing their food production. The GIS software
can be used to map land digitally while collecting important information needed to
grow crops such as the topography or lay of the land combined with other statistical
data allowing for easier analysis of the soil. In turn, this makes it easier for farmers
to not only decide what and where to plant but also how to improve their methods of
crop production so that they can earn more and better feed the world.
GIS can also be

Introduction to Software Maintenance and Change Control Process
Software maintenance process is a topic that probably comes up in most
organizations and is an important one to address. Once software is created there are
usually changes or bugs that are found causes there to be a need for maintenance. It
is important to have a process in place that helps to define how these items are
handled and the path they take to completion. Using different tools to log these
changes, requests, or bugs will is important to keep things organized and allows for
proper tracking of these items.
As part of Software maintenance there is another aspect called change ... Show more

Utilizing programmers on an as needed or project basis allows the company greater
flexibility of their programming resources, once again allowing them to conserve
precious talent for only the most critical issues.
The third tier of the software maintenance plan is management. Management works
in tandem with both of the previous layers. For instance there may be a technical
support supervisor who makes the final decision about escalation to the
programming team. This person serves as the liaison between the two teams to
insure that the issue is communicated, fixed, and ultimately resolved for the user.
On the programming team a project manager or lead programmer may be in charge.
This person s job is to prioritize pending escalated issues from the technical support
team as well as company requested modifications to the program. This person is
often times the head of the programming team and may report directly to the systems
manager or IT manager. Above the lead programmer you have the IT department
manager. This person s job is to monitor the IT department s day to day operations to
insure that it is effectively and efficiently supporting the company s customers.
Training Companies spend millions of dollars a year supporting customer or user
bases that are not educated in the proper way to operate their programs. By
developing a training program for the customer/user the company can greatly
Polynesians In The Film Moana
Disney was justified in making the film Moana and was not culturally insensitive to
the Polynesian people because, Disney has worked hard for 5 years researching
Polynesians and their culture; they have hired Polynesian actors and songwriters; and
Disney have made sure to truly depict the terrain of the Polynesians.
Disney has sent many people to research the Polynesian islands, to truly understand
the Polynesian culture. In article 3 it states, For the past five years, Clements and
Musker have been making trips to the Pacific Islands including Samoa, Tahiti, Mo
orea, and Fiji. This shows the directors took great care to study the Polynesian
people, their homes and their culture. It also shows that Disney did this to make sure
they weren t being insensitive or stereotyping Polynesian people. Another piece of
evidence from article 1 is, Every word is chosen carefully, every color discussed and

In the first article they say, Miranda worked with Hawaiian songwriter and musician
Opetaia Foa i, so the music would sound authentic. This once again shows the
dedication to making the film authentic. In addition the directors understood that
music is a big part of the Polynesians culture and i m sure the Polynesians
appreciated having authentic music. A further quote from article 1 is, They found
Auli l Cravalho, and it is her first acting job. The teen grew up in a small town and
attended an all Hawaiian school where she learned the folklore of Maui, which is
one of the islands of Hawaii. A choice like this shows that they wanted to make the
voice of Moana authentic with everything else. Moana is authentic because they
hired an authentic Polynesian. Auli l Cravalho was also a good choice because she
grew up and is familiar with Maui and the
Athens Vs Sparta Research Paper
Athens vs. Sparta
Athens and Sparta are governmental systems that have divided the Greek City
States. They are two rivals of ancient Greece. So close on a map yet they have
different values, lifestyles, and cultures. Athens and Sparta both have lots of
historical value for Greece. They both had an Assembly, in which the members were
elected by the people. However, the top rulers of Athens were elected, while Spartas
were not. Athens and Sparta were both military strong and both had very large
populations of slaves. The Athenian form of elected government was called Limited
Democracy. Spartan form was called Oligarchy. It also had other forms of monarchy,
democracy, and aristocracy. Sparta elects two kings who become leaders until they

In Sparta, men were mainly warriors; others were slaves. Athens was located near
the water. Therefore, the economy was dependent on trade within the Mediterranean
Sea. The lifestyle between systems were very different. Athenians were open and
had a very modern prospective. Unlike Sparta, in Athens, boys were not forced to
join the army. In Athens, you could get a good education. Spartans focused more on
strength than education. Women differed as well in these communities. In Athens,
the women did chores such as weaving and cooking. They were dependent of their
husbands or father. They were not aloud to own property aside from the family. In
Sparta, the women had rights that no other Greek women had. They were stronger
and formed families with the men of choice and would own property by themselves.
Both systems were different from their ideas of getting along with all the other
Greek empires. Sparta seemed to provide their army whenever required. Athens
wanted more control. This eventually led to war. Sparta had a powerful army while
Athens had a powerful naval

Artists And The Art Trade
While artists and the art trade were in the business of presenting the new, this was a
conceptual challenge for museums. (Altshuler, 2008, 15). Discuss the challenges that
advanced artistic practice presented for museums in the late 19th and early 20th
century.
The period of the second half of the 19th and the beginnings of the 20th century saw
some of the most extensive transformations in the art market and the institution of the
art museum in history. With the rise of the avant garde and new artistic practices, the
traditional enlightenment didactic vision of the museum was put under threat. This
essay will focus on the tension between the museum s historicity and the general
tendency to move towards modernity and the discussions ... Show more content on

However, the works acquired were still exclusively under the strict rule of the
Academy, operated by the state. The rise of progressive artists advocating advanced
art, pioneered by the likes of Courbet, Manet and others caused a re evaluation in the
system of these principles. The coming of the avant garde together with the increased
commercialisation of art set in motion an increased tension with the established
institutions. Eventually this culminated in the formation of autonomous exhibition
spaces where artists displayed their works separately from the Academy. This
tradition began with the Salon des RefusГ©s in 1863 and extended to establish a
parallel to that which would have been traditionally the role of the state museums as
the academy continued to turn away from progressive art practices. Although some of
the contemporary works were acquired by the state, it was not until 1896 that the
Luxembourg agreed to exhibits works of the impressionists, and it would be even
later when state run institutions would acknowledge the full extent of the modern art
tradition.
In the span of the last decades of the 19th century, art in Europe began to focus itself
on new developments in artistic practice. Exhibitions such as the
The Relationship Between Girl Scout And Girl Scouts And...
Today in the Scouts, boys have more opportunities than girls. This issue is causing
upheaval among equal rights advocates. Due to protests made by these advocates,
girls are now able to join the Boy Scouts, but combining them does not solve the
problem. Rather, Girl Scouts should have the same opportunities as the BoyScouts
because of the strive towards equality, scholarship opportunities, and Title IX. The
push for equality is a goal yet to be reached, due to the lack of opportunities for girls
as opposed to boys. When it comes to extracurricular activities, such as sports, jobs,
and the Scouts, girls are unrepresented (Denny 3). Research has proven that in most
activities boys outnumber girls. While the Boy Scouts take adventurous trips over the
summer, GirlScouts are stuck selling cookies in their home town in order to
fundraise their own small, summer trip. These issues should be addressed without
the need to combine the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Not only should the Girl and
Boy Scouts have equal rights, but they should also be able to partake in the same
activities. In today s society, some activities have restricted girls from participating
because they simply do not follow certain gender roles (Rothschild 1). While Boy
Scouts get to go camping and take part in fun community service, Girl Scouts stay
in a local area and sell cookies so that they will have enough money to go on a small
trip over the summer. These girls should be known for their incredible
Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow era was one of struggle not only for the victims of violence,
discrimination, and poverty, but by those who worked to challenge (or promote)
segregation in the South ( Jim Crow Stories ). It is important to know the history of
this significant period where everyone was treated differently based on how they
looked instead of their character. During the Jim Crow era, the lives of African
Americans were severely restricted making it difficult for them to succeed in
everyday life.
After the Civil War, most Southern and Border States deprived the basic rights of
African Americans. Jim Crow was a fictitious character created by a white
entertainer to ridicule African Americans. The laws were made in an attempt to
keep African Americans away from whites after slavery ended ( Examples of Jim
Crow ). The Jim Crow laws affected education, health care, and social events.
From Delaware to California, and from North Dakota to Texas, many states (and
cities, too) could impose legal punishments on people for consorting with members
of another race ( Jim Crow Laws ). These punishments could be brutal or sometimes
fatal. Education was and still is a very important aspect in life, but Jim Crow laws
made receiving an equal education an impossible task. Education: The schools for
white children and the schools for Negro children shall be conducted separately
Florida ( Jim Crow Laws ). Although both races did receive an education, they were

The State Of Florida Is The United States
The state of Florida is one of the states in the U.S. that is known for its sinkholes.
The entire state of Florida is sitting on top of a long stretch of limestone, which is
the main ingredient in sinkholes. As the limestone dissolves underground, it
creates a void and whatever is sitting on top of this empty void, it sinks into it. If it
is simply a chunk of uninhabited that is sitting on top of a void, formation of a
sinkhole is not that big of a deal. But, if it is a house that a family is living in, now
that is a different story. When a sinkhole is about to form, there are no distinct signs.
Even if there are clear signs through cracks on the street or cracks in the house, by
the time we realize, our homes would be sinking down into the sinkhole. There has
been multiple cases in Floridawhere families have been left devastated due to
sinkholes. In August 2013, Summer Bay Resort, Disney area timeshare
development in Clermont Florida, a big sinkhole opened up swallowing two
buildings. As people were inside the building, the ceiling started to crack and

Jav A Object Oriented Programming
Java is a object oriented programming language .It is originally developed by James
Gosling at Sun Microsystems and released in 1995.The programs in java are
platform independent that means the programs can be run on any operating
system with any type of processor as long as the java interpreter is available on the
system. Actually James Gosling, Patrick Naughton, Chris Warth, Mike Sheriden
Ed Frank intiated the java language project in June 1991.A small team of sun
engineers called green team. Firstly it was called Green Talk by James Gosling
and the file extension was .gt. After it was called OAK , and it was developed as a
part of green project. OAK is a symbol of strength and choosen as a national tree of
many countries like USA, Germany, Romania, France etc. In 1995, OAK was
renamed to JAVA as it was already a trademark of Oak Technologies. Actually the
developers thought of choosing a new name. They suggested words dynamic,
revolutionary, silk, jolt, DNA etc. They need a name which reflects the essence of
technology. According to Gosling java was one of the top choices. As the name
java was so unique, most of the team members preferred java There is an island

Essay On Bolivia
The country of Bolivia is nestled in the heart of the South America. The country
has a rich cultural diversity brought about by the mixing of several peoples in that
region. Bolivia is where the towering Andes mountains meet the luscious
rainforests of the Amazon. Bolivia also has a vibrant history filled with the fight
for independence from Spanish rule. The beauty of Bolivia is of such greatness
that one can only hope to see it in one s lifetime. Bolivia has several unique features
about it. One unique feature is that it has two official capitals. The capitals are Sucre

Sexism In King Lear
Emotions: The Real Villain There is a misconception that those who show their
emotions are weaker than those who hide them. Women are thought to be fragile
due to this fallacy, which is revealed through the play, King Lear. William
Shakespeare s King Lear is about a king who is stripped of his power by two of his
daughters, Goneril and Regan, that deceive him by professing their love for him.
King Leareventually realizes his mistake of banishing his other daughter, Cordelia,
who does not vocalize her love for him. Soon after, he becomes insane from the
shock of the betrayal he faces. Shakespeare presents ideas of internalized sexism
and exploitation in this play, to show the tendency towards misogyny. He uses the
motifs of body and animals to illustrate that women are portrayed as lesser than
men because of the stigma of their emotional vulnerability. Internalized sexism
reveals how Goneril uses masculine characteristics to hide her sensitivity,
attempting to reach for power. Goneril expresses fake love to King Lear to obtain
land and plans to eliminate Lear, so she can have more power. After Goneril forces
Lear to leave her castle, unless he reduces the number of his knights, the Fool states
that the hedge sparrow fed the cuckoo [for] so long / [t]hat it had [its] head bit off by
it[s] young (1.4.212 213). The Fool refers to Lear as a hedge sparrow and Goneril as
a cuckoo to exemplify one of the first acts of betrayal that Lear faces. A cuckoo

My Birthday Party
The party started to take place in an outdoor location and the police attended asking
for the party location to be moved on, this was agreed to happen and did.
My friend whose birthday it was had been living under adverse possession within
the United Kingdom, this was in statue to her legal rights and because of these
reasons given the party was agreed to be moved this was after many arrangements
that were made, the location finally ended up being back at her home, to where she
was living and residing.
The ladies birthday party who s party it had been had not lived alone at the time
and was a part of an occupation and for these reasons, she had to communicate to
an agreement with her living colleges, this was done so for the party to be able to
continue to take place, as for every person(s) considerations of there belongings, so
for them all to be kept safe.
The party went ahead with no Problems and just the usual occasional pop up of the
police presence, so at the end I went home.
Around the term of time, that would equalling towards about five past months that
had passed by, I was at my home address, when I noticed an unexpected knock at
my home front door. On answering the door I was to find out it was the police and
was arrested for suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods.
The police had come to my home and taken my own back garden gazebo that was set
up in my back garden.
I was later to find out they believed it to be stolen from the occupied building.
Asian Americans In The 19th Century
Look around you and notice that everyone has something hidden. That something
cannot be seen with the eye like a physical object, but more of something buried down
deep in the roots. History books mention the founding of the United States of America
and how everything started in this country. But there has always been a big part
excluded out of the books. Most of them talk about the Americans, but what about the
Asian Americans who have contributed to this country? They had to go through harsh
discrimination and unfair laws and rules. Asian Americans have a historythat has
been untold. Everything has been buried because their voices cannot be heard. Look

Opioids And Its Effects On Society
According to Hanson, Venturelli, and Fleckenstein (2015) opioids are described as
the nation s fastest growing drug problem (p. 276) and are also known as narcotics.
Opioids originated from the opium poppy and have been chemically altered
throughout the years in order to create more potent drugs such as hydrocodone (e.g.,
Vicodin), oxycodone (e.g., OxyContin, Percocet), morphine(e.g., Kadian, Avinza),
and codeine. Known for analgesic properties, opioids are seen to be the most
commonly used drugs among clinicians. Although these narcotics are legally
prescribed to patients, there are many, even adolescents, that not only abuse
prescribed narcotics, but also abuse another form of opioid, heroin. In adolescence,
the structures of the brain are not fully developed and are therefore more likely to
acquire severe consequences for abusing opioids. There are many ways to use and
administer narcotics, but misusing opioids may lead to signs and symptoms of drug
abuse, annoying side effects, dependency, abuse, and in worse case situations, death.
Opioids are highly addictive and dangerous drugs, but have some medicinal use.
The most common clinical use of opioid narcotics is as an analgesic to relieve pain
(Fleckenstein, Hanson, Venturelli, 2015, p. 276.). Opioid narcotics are used for pain
relief. Once consumed, opioids activate receptors that are controlled by endorphins
(Fleckenstein, et al., 2015, p. 277.). Endorphins are proteins that are released into the
brain when one

The Case of the Omniscient Organization
Case Analysis: The Case of the Omniscient Organization
Introduction
In this case study, Dominion Swann (DS) has implemented a radical restructuring of
the work environment in order to regain control of its employees. By 1990, DS had
been suffering from a number of business woes. It was not keeping pace with its
competition, employee turnover had increased substantially, health costs and work
related accidents were rising, and employee theft was at an all time high. Instead of
identifying and addressing the underlying business and management problems, DS
decided to treat the symptoms by turning to SciexPlan Inc. to help radically
restructure the work environment through the use of employee monitoring technology.
Background ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Off duty conduct may be relevant to employment if the misconduct negatively
impacts the employee s work performance or the company s mission. However, the
systematic monitoring employed by DS raises serious privacy concerns. Monitoring
all employees activities, rather than just the activities of employees under suspicion
of specific misconduct, constitutes a blanket search that brings enormous privacy
concerns.
Recommendations
DS would be better off with no employee monitoring rather than scrutinizing its
employees every move. Once the employee monitoring creates a morale problem, all
of the value it has created will be diminished. If DS is to continue with employee
monitoring systems, it must create and clearly communicate a monitoring policy for
employees.
DS needs to start with human oriented policies, then use technology to enforce them.
As it stands right now, DS is exerting too much power in its invasion of employee
privacy in the workplace. DS is exploiting the lack of regulation in this area in order
to implement extremely invasive methods of employee surveillance. Until employees
are protected by regulation to protect their rights to privacy in the workplace, DS
should assume responsibility to self regulate by limiting the amount of surveillance,
implementing it only when it achieves specific goals for success. Monitoring should

Stephen King: On Writing
Stephen King is a man of many talents and personalities; not only is he able to
scare his readers immensely, he is also able to make them laugh. I chose a passage
from Stephen King s On Writing for this assignment; the passage stuck in my mind
for a long time after I finished the book. His writing style is unique compared to the
other autobiographies I have read over the years. Everything that a person writes
has a meaning or purpose whether it s a letter or an essay and voice, tone, and style
play a very important part in how the reader views the piece of writing. King

Theme Of Cat In The Rain
Different Usage of Words Evokes Longing Differently
Longing for something, whether it is love, family etc. consumes a person s mind and
actions over time. To convey such emotion in prose or poetry, the arrangement of
words means everything and must be exact, for emotional impact on the reader.
Thus, even poetry and prose by the same author can end up with different word
choices and narratives, in order to convey longing as an emotion. This paper will
analyse Cat in the Rain (Ernest Hemingway) where a woman s desire for a cat
shows her longing for certain things in life; and Killed Paive (Ernest Hemingway) a
narration about lost feelings between the narrator and the addressed person. The
paper will examine how longing for someone is expressed ... Show more content on

Where the narrator in Cat in the Rain keeps a distance from the character and allows
variation in interpretation for the reader, the narrator in Killed Paive is the
protagonist, who includes the reader in the narrative through the usage of you . Thus,
the two narrators not only approach the reader in two different ways through the
tenor, the narrators also have different viewpoints overall.
Cat in the Rain displayed the causes of the characters behaviour, mainly the American
wife, Killed Paive displayed the inner thought of the protagonist, excluding the causes.
Meaning Killed Paive attempted to generate an emotional reaction upon the reader,
through its word choice in the description of the feeling longing in the narrator. In
contrast, the narrator in Cat in the Rain focused on the setting, whilst the words said
by the characters display the influence longing has on their emotions.
Where the two texts have similarities are in addition to the topic of longing, is the
usage of metonymy. Both texts chose to use an entity which projected the feelings
felt by the protagonist. Where Cat in the Rain used the cat as a literal physical entity,
expressing the inner feelings of the American wife, Killed Paive chose soul. Though
the soul is not a physical entity, it nevertheless, functions as the reflection of the

The Enterprise Architecture ( Ea ) Essay
Body
Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a process of describing the structure and behavior of
an enterprise (including its information systems), then planning and governing
changes to improve the integrity and flexibility of the enterprise.
Well Gartner defines EA is the process of translating business vision and strategy into
effective enterprise change by creating, communicating and improving the key
requirements, principles and models that describe the enterprise s future state and
enable its evolution .
Basically EA is all about technology planning. In other words EA is a component of
the overall strategic planning in a company. The company s strategic planning is
done by the CEO. This is where senior leader directs change in the company. When
we talk about change, change in roles and responsibilities, processes such as data and
information, existing or new applications, infrastructure and possibly technology.
Enterprise Architecture Its Purpose
As we all know the company is focused on making a profit. The purpose of EA is to
maximize investment returns, improve performance and embrace emerging
technologies that support the business.
Enable changes to the business strategy with quick response changes in enabling
processes and technology solutions.
Reduces redundancy, hence lower total cost of ownership.
Achieves economies of scale by sharing services.

Further more, the Eden Project is positioned in Cornwall, South West England.
Cornwall is one of the poorest areas in England with the lowest per capital

also the high entrance fee of Eden compared to other visitors attractions.
(Thisisdeveon, 2010) While the population of this area has already less money to

Another economical factor which is able to influence the operational activities of the

Gerald Fridman
a.Agreement or promise theory
Gerald Fridman contends that the primary purpose of contract law is to enforce the
agreement of the parties. Agreement is the central element in determining whether
there is a contract. Also, the existence of a contract requires the parties voluntarily
intend to be bound by the agreement. In interpreting contracts, courts are primarily
trying to carry out the intent of the contractual parties; therefore, when one party
frustrates the intentions of the other party, a breach occurs.
Charles Fried asserts that enforcing promises is the main purpose of contract law. One
initiates a contract by invoking the practice of promising, and the other party can
reasonably trust him or she will perform as promised in the future. If one fails to
fulfill the promises, he or she then damages or ruins the trust, and exhibits
disrespect for the other party. This behavior is morally wrong and condemned by
the society. To enforce promises, the social practice of promising should be
supplemented with additional rules or standards. The role of contract law is to
provide rules and standards to further that purposes. When the promise principle
under Fried s theory does not provide a ground for relief, other contract law
principles may still fill the gap. For example, the principle of benefit requires
compensating others for non gift benefits received from them. Additionally, contract
law also enforces promise by awarding expectation ... Show more content on

A fact people don t know is that the word tattoo came from a Tahitian word tatau

bodies for thousands of years with some of the oldest tattoos dating back to 2000

ancient times. There is a tattooed mummy that was found in 1990 on the Austrian

Majority of the information found relates to medical testing (their physical ability

licence that is subject to a periodic review or you are aged 70 or older and hold a
licence for a class of vehicle other than a car e.g. heavy vehicle or motorbike. The
same source also goes on to state that a practical driving assessment is then
required if your medical practitioner feels it is necessary to help determine your

that new learner drivers undergo to obtain their provisional licence.... It primarily
looks at the ability of the driver to control the vehicle and demonstrate safe driving
on the road in light to medium traffic while complying with road rules. This source
validates this key finding as it is evident that there is no compulsory ability test for
car class licence holders as they age to elderly drivers, however there is the
possibility of sitting a test dependent on medical conditions. This in turn helps to
answer as to whether elderly drivers should have road rules specifically applying to
Amnesia and Natural Memory Loss
Amnesia What is it?
Amnesia and natural memory loss is two different things, natural memory loss can
start at the age of forty five but amnesia can happen at any age. There are five
different types of main Amnesia that can cause different type of memory loss.
Anterograde Amnesia
Retrograde Amnesia
Dissociative Amnesia
Infantile Amnesia
Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) (Theguardian), (medindia), (Curiosity)
Anterograde Amnesia
This type of Amnesia a person has brain trauma that has affected the hippocampus,
the fornix which is located inside and continuing on the outside of both sides of the
hippocampus or the mammillary bodies which are connected by a nerve path to the
fornix. It can also temporarily be drug induced, by alcohol intoxication, brain surgery,
heart attack, concussion, shock and even an emotional disorder. This type of Amnesia
affects the patient by not being able to store memories caused after the Amnesia for
more than a few minutes. For example the patient is unable to remember the name of
a person that he or she encountered 5 minutes ago. (healthline), (medindia),

Retrograde Amnesia
This form of Amnesia is the most common type found in patients. It can be caused
by brain disease or a brain injury. It affects the patient by losing all or some part of
past memories. Newer memories are lost first because the neural path to them is
weaker because they haven t been called on

Analysis Of The Book Carver Essay
Every story you read has an author behind it now how you interpret that s up to you,
but some authors have a completely different interpretation of their writing. Some
authors hide deep meaning behind their writings that can be difficult to catch.
Authors will use symbolism to tell a different story. A period of their life could
affect the way they write and you can see that as a reader if you pick apart the story.
Raymond Carveris a great example on how a period in his life affected his writing.
Carver was going down a dark path which readers can see the affects of this period
in his life in his writing style. It took Carver some time to find his sense of hope
again, and when he did so did his writing. Carver was known to be a great writer

influential writing in the 20th century (King). Also, know for being one of the
most important contributors to literature. In his short stories Carver chronicled the
everyday lives and problems of the working poor in the Pacific Northwest. His
blue collar characters are crushed by broken marriages, financial problems, and
failed careers. This short stories mirrored Carver s own life. Carver s stripped down,
minimalist prose style is remarkable for its honesty and power. He is credited with
helping revitalize the genre of the English language short storyin the late 20th
century.Carver dealt with a serious case of alcoholism you can see the change in his
Physical Therapy Paper
Physical Therapy is a medical specialty that restores the functions of the human body
in such a way that the patient s quality of life and health perception reaches its
greatest exponent. Physical Therapy promotes the mobility of the human body
through physical intervention ensuring the patient s adequate healthiness. Physical
Therapyis a science that helps healing, recovering and adapting patients with physical
dysfunctions. Physical therapycould be defined as a science and art at the same time.
It is a science because it allows us to know its own scientific development, and art
because that knowledge is applied to the patients to improve their physical status.
Therefore the knowledge and learning of the different methods and techniques are
always related to the application on the patient. Physical therapy adapts to the needs
of society in general, and patients in particular. Physical therapy is increasing every

The direct contact with the patient helps in the process of recovery. The connection
between a physical therapist and the patient is essential for the patient s physical
improvement process. In order to treat a patient, a physical therapist has to perform

The Black Hole, An Area Of Spacetime
The black hole, an area of spacetime thats gravity is so strong that it can prevent
anything from escaping, even light. Contrary to popular belief, black holes are not
empty holes in space, but rather a massive amount of matter packed into a small area.
The graphic to the right shows the simulated view of a black holein front of a Large
Magellanic Cloud. The theory of these black holes was conceived in Einstein s
theory of general relativity. It predicts that a plentiful compact mass will contort
spacetime and create a black hole. The black hole acts like a perfect black body, in
the sense that it reflects no light. The area where the nothing can escape is the
event horizon. This event horizon has no features that can be detected from close
up, and has huge effects on what will happen to the object that crosses it. Also,
according to the to quantum field theory in curved spacetime, an event horizon
will emit a black body radiation, also known as Hawking radiation. The graphic to
the right shows where the event horizon, and the black hole itself, are located. It
also shows the accretion disk, which is formed when matter falls into a black hole
and is heated by friction. It is believed that black holes of extreme mass form when
giant stars collapse. After this event, its continues to grow by absorbing the mass
from its surroundings. The way scientists can tell the age of a black hole is by using
the orbits of stars around it. It is believed that supermassive black holes

the shaping of this great nation: Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Bunker Hill,
the Alamo, Gettysburg, Belleau Wood, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and the
Battle of the Bulge, just to name a few. When the Spanish American War of is

crowd of soldiers, situated by their artillery s burn and their surveillance balloon,
came under Spanish fire. The major assault began at 1:00 P.M. The key to the attack
on San Juan Hill by a U.S. infantry partition was the effectual flames of a series of
three Gatling (machine) guns that brushed the peak and forced most of the Spanish
protectors to flee as the infantry in some disorder protected the tallness (Robert,
1993, p. 74).
To the right, in the intervening time, rudiments of a get down cavalry dissection
moved alongside Kettle Hill. Devoid of advantage of weaponry or the Gatling gun,
and in the countenance of serious opponent fire, the get down troopers of two usual
military cavalry regiments, the First and the Ninth (the last one of the army s black
regiments), and the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, moved up the grades and
drove the Spanish military from the entrenchments at the summit.
U.S. Army Role
The U.S. Army, given the size of the force, was pressed by American public alert,
and even more by the develops of Lt. Col. Theodore Roosevelt, a New York official,
and his First Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, a collection of western cowboys and
eastern elites recognized as the Rough Riders (Robert, 1993, p. 74).
In the fighting of 1 July, the aggressive U.S. Forces had 205 killed and 1,180
injured, the Spanish protectors had 215 killed and 376 wounded. For the reason,

  • 4. Accident In Houston Essay One Step Too Many Leads to a Devastating Car vs Pedestrian Accident in Houston Running across a busy city street is never a good idea as this situation can only lead to car accidents in which the pedestrian will always be the loser. This risky maneuver becomes even more dangerous when you try to do so at 2:30 in the morning, as one Houston man found out earlier this month. The man in question was attempting to bolt across Beechnut where it intersects with Wednesbury in southwest Houston. Sadly, the man in question failed to notice the fact there was a car coming toward the intersection on Beechnut from the east. The driver of the car was unable to stop in time and ended up hitting the pedestrian. Luckily, if there could be any luck in car ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the 2014 census bureau report, the city s population stood at 2.239 million. With so many people living and working in and around the city, there are very few hours of the day or night when there is little or no traffic. According to the latest car accident statistics released by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in 2015 there were 550 pedestrians versus car accidents resulting in the death of the pedestrian in 2015. The number of these car accidents shows an increase of 12.7 percent from the previous years. To bring these numbers more into perspective, according to the same report, not a single day in 2015 passed without at least one vehicle related fatality. The total death toll on Texas roads and highways involving motor vehicles reached 3,531 an increase of 0.14 percent over the previous year. Much like any other type of car accident those involving pedestrians are preventable. It takes vigilance not only on the part of the driver but also of the pedestrian. In this particular accident, it was noted that the pedestrian did not appear to be paying attention as he stepped out into the street. One could expect young children to not being paying attention when running out into the street. This is something that most Houston drivers have long since become used to watching and being prepared for during daylight

  • 6. The Human Body Transports Oxygen And Nutrients Throughout... The human body transports oxygen and nutrients throughout the body using the vascular system1. When a person acquires an injury that causes him/her to bleed, the body has a natural defense to repair it1; this is the basis of hemostasis, the formation and/or dissolution of blood clots2. Localizing and amplifying coagulationproteases and their subsequent cofactor complexes maintain hemostasis3. The inhibition and/or modification of these same coagulation proteases throughout the rest of the body, away from the trauma site, also helps to maintain hemostasis3. Coagulation, a cascade system abundant in fibrin and thrombin proteins that are vital to hemostasis4, mainly occurs on the vascular surface because the rupture on the surface causes a successive activation of trypsin like serine proteases which lead to the release of thrombin and clot formation3. The coagulation system may be activated via the intrinsic pathway, where plasma factor XII triggers coagulation to begin, or the extrinsic pathway, where thromboplastin released from tissues stimulates plasma factor VII once each pathway activates plasma factor X, a common pathway leads to the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin4 (this conversion is a function of which thrombin is responsible for3). To prevent excessive bleeding (which occurs when there is a scarcity of thrombin5) and/or unwanted blood clots (which occurs when there is a plethora of thrombin5), coagulation must therefore be highly regulated3. If hemostasis is

  • 10. John Swift s A Modest Proposal In Jonathan Swift s satirical work, A Modest Proposal, the reader is presented with a horrible concept using extremely effective language and logos; Swift uses strong speech, rational tone, and complex grammar to convince readers that eating children will solve all the problems in 19th century Ireland. Swift s overall goals in his pamphlet, however, is not to actually encourage eating babies, which is why it is of satire, but is instead to raise awareness of Ireland s conditions for living, failing political figures, and the tyranny brought by England. Swift states in his sub title, For Preventing the Children of poor People in Ireland, from being a Burden to their Parents or Country; and for making them beneficial to the Public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea is so intense that it demonstrates the overall irony of the piece. It is also worth pointing out that this line comes late in the essay. Swift lulls the reader into a false sense of trust by beginning with descriptions of the position of the poor in Ireland. The reader may think at first that this is a serious essay, making the point all the more loud when it eventually appears. The idea itself comes from a very knowing American, which is a small attack on the Americas and American colonies. Rhetorically, the first couple of quotes stated are the strongest in bringing attention to Ireland s issues. It s comical in the fact that he uses such a horrible idea to raise the red flags in the minds of the Irish people. In an earlier paragraph Swift writes, It is a melancholy object to those who walk through this great town, or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads, and cabin doors crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags, ad importuning every passenger for an alms (Swift par.1). This quote should be understood as a highlight to the poor living conditions of Ireland. The quote is interesting because Swift does two things in it; he continues building his satire, which is the world the reader will be thinking about, while nonchalantly hinting the underlining theme of poor

This sparked a national debate over bathroom laws determining if transgender individuals should be allowed to use the public bathroom or locker room of their choice. People are divided on the issues of what bathroom or locker room transgenderpeople utilize as some believe that they should use the bathroom based on their biological sex while others believe that they should use the bathroom corresponding to their genderidentity. Some people are against the usage of bathrooms based on gender identity feeling that it would be better to have usage based on the gender listed on birth certificates or single stall unisex bathrooms. Transgender activists claim that transgender people experience higher levels of violence and harassment, and, when using the bathroom corresponding to their biological sex are at an even greater risk. The supposed threats that these protections pose to others are largely nonexistent; in fact, it is transgender people who are far more likely to be the target of violence than any random user of the ladies room (.Eisner). Transgender people feel uncomfortable in bathrooms if forced to use the bathroom corresponding to their birth certificate. One transgender person said I do not plan on frequenting any women s restrooms now or anytime in the future. Doing so would guarantee two things: that I would be uncomfortable, and that the women sharing the bathroom with me could be
  • 12. Geographic Information Systems ( Gis ) Since the dawn of time, humanity has always been interested in discovering, locating and delineating the whereabouts of the world in which it lives. This is why man decided to create the map. For centuries, maps were created by hand to depict various known locations locally or globally. Now, with the advent of new technology, maps can easily be generated by a computer, especially through using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software. I have always been fascinated by maps, geography, and understanding how everything is arranged in the world. Since GIS allows for the creation of maps depicting the arrangements of an area in the world using geographic data, there is nothing else in this world I could be more passionate about. Geographic Information Systems pose many benefits to mankind. For instance, it has helped farms adequately provide the food we need for nourishment. GIS helps farmers make informed decisions on the best locations to farm and what benefits the lands can provide them, hence increasing their food production. The GIS software can be used to map land digitally while collecting important information needed to grow crops such as the topography or lay of the land combined with other statistical data allowing for easier analysis of the soil. In turn, this makes it easier for farmers to not only decide what and where to plant but also how to improve their methods of crop production so that they can earn more and better feed the world. GIS can also be

Utilizing programmers on an as needed or project basis allows the company greater flexibility of their programming resources, once again allowing them to conserve precious talent for only the most critical issues. The third tier of the software maintenance plan is management. Management works in tandem with both of the previous layers. For instance there may be a technical support supervisor who makes the final decision about escalation to the programming team. This person serves as the liaison between the two teams to insure that the issue is communicated, fixed, and ultimately resolved for the user. On the programming team a project manager or lead programmer may be in charge. This person s job is to prioritize pending escalated issues from the technical support team as well as company requested modifications to the program. Disney has sent many people to research the Polynesian islands, to truly understand the Polynesian culture. In article 3 it states, For the past five years, Clements and Musker have been making trips to the Pacific Islands including Samoa, Tahiti, Mo orea, and Fiji. The period of the second half of the 19th and the beginnings of the 20th century saw some of the most extensive transformations in the art market and the institution of the art museum in history. However, the works acquired were still exclusively under the strict rule of the Academy, operated by the state. The rise of progressive artists advocating advanced art, pioneered by the likes of Courbet, Manet and others caused a re evaluation in the system of these principles. The coming of the avant garde together with the increased commercialisation of art set in motion an increased tension with the established institutions. Eventually this culminated in the formation of autonomous exhibition spaces where artists displayed their works separately from the Academy. This tradition began with the Salon des RefusГ©s in 1863 and extended to establish a parallel to that which would have been traditionally the role of the state museums as the academy continued to turn away from progressive art practices. Although some of the contemporary works were acquired by the state, it was not until 1896 that the Luxembourg agreed to exhibits works of the impressionists, and it would be even later when state run institutions would acknowledge the full extent of the modern art tradition. In the span of the last decades of the 19th century, art in Europe began to focus itself on new developments in artistic practice. Exhibitions such as the
  • 19. The Relationship Between Girl Scout And Girl Scouts And... Today in the Scouts, boys have more opportunities than girls. This issue is causing upheaval among equal rights advocates. Due to protests made by these advocates, girls are now able to join the Boy Scouts, but combining them does not solve the problem. Rather, Girl Scouts should have the same opportunities as the BoyScouts because of the strive towards equality, scholarship opportunities, and Title IX. The push for equality is a goal yet to be reached, due to the lack of opportunities for girls as opposed to boys. When it comes to extracurricular activities, such as sports, jobs, and the Scouts, girls are unrepresented (Denny 3). Research has proven that in most activities boys outnumber girls. While the Boy Scouts take adventurous trips over the summer, GirlScouts are stuck selling cookies in their home town in order to fundraise their own small, summer trip. These issues should be addressed without the need to combine the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Not only should the Girl and Boy Scouts have equal rights, but they should also be able to partake in the same activities. In today s society, some activities have restricted girls from participating because they simply do not follow certain gender roles (Rothschild 1). While Boy Scouts get to go camping and take part in fun community service, Girl Scouts stay in a local area and sell cookies so that they will have enough money to go on a small trip over the summer. These girls should be known for their incredible
  • 20. Jim Crow Laws The Jim Crow era was one of struggle not only for the victims of violence, discrimination, and poverty, but by those who worked to challenge (or promote) segregation in the South ( Jim Crow Stories ). It is important to know the history of this significant period where everyone was treated differently based on how they looked instead of their character. During the Jim Crow era, the lives of African Americans were severely restricted making it difficult for them to succeed in everyday life. After the Civil War, most Southern and Border States deprived the basic rights of African Americans. Jim Crow was a fictitious character created by a white entertainer to ridicule African Americans. The laws were made in an attempt to keep African Americans away from whites after slavery ended ( Examples of Jim Crow ). The Jim Crow laws affected education, health care, and social events. The entire state of Florida is sitting on top of a long stretch of limestone, which is the main ingredient in sinkholes. As the limestone dissolves underground, it creates a void and whatever is sitting on top of this empty void, it sinks into it. If it is simply a chunk of uninhabited that is sitting on top of a void, formation of a sinkhole is not that big of a deal. But, if it is a house that a family is living in, now that is a different story. When a sinkhole is about to form, there are no distinct signs. Even if there are clear signs through cracks on the street or cracks in the house, by the time we realize, our homes would be sinking down into the sinkhole. • 24. Sexism In King Lear Emotions: The Real Villain There is a misconception that those who show their emotions are weaker than those who hide them. Women are thought to be fragile due to this fallacy, which is revealed through the play, King Lear. William Shakespeare s King Lear is about a king who is stripped of his power by two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, that deceive him by professing their love for him. King Leareventually realizes his mistake of banishing his other daughter, Cordelia, who does not vocalize her love for him. Soon after, he becomes insane from the shock of the betrayal he faces. Shakespeare presents ideas of internalized sexism and exploitation in this play, to show the tendency towards misogyny. He uses the motifs of body and animals to illustrate that women are portrayed as lesser than men because of the stigma of their emotional vulnerability. Internalized sexism reveals how Goneril uses masculine characteristics to hide her sensitivity, attempting to reach for power. Goneril expresses fake love to King Lear to obtain land and plans to eliminate Lear, so she can have more power. After Goneril forces Lear to leave her castle, unless he reduces the number of his knights, the Fool states that the hedge sparrow fed the cuckoo [for] so long / [t]hat it had [its] head bit off by it[s] young (1.4.212 213). Opioids And Its Effects On Society According to Hanson, Venturelli, and Fleckenstein (2015) opioids are described as the nation s fastest growing drug problem (p. 276) and are also known as narcotics. Opioids originated from the opium poppy and have been chemically altered throughout the years in order to create more potent drugs such as hydrocodone (e.g., Vicodin), oxycodone (e.g., OxyContin, Percocet), morphine(e.g., Kadian, Avinza), and codeine. Known for analgesic properties, opioids are seen to be the most commonly used drugs among clinicians. Although these narcotics are legally prescribed to patients, there are many, even adolescents, that not only abuse prescribed narcotics, but also abuse another form of opioid, heroin. In adolescence, the structures of the brain are not fully developed and are therefore more likely to acquire severe consequences for abusing opioids. There are many ways to use and administer narcotics, but misusing opioids may lead to signs and symptoms of drug abuse, annoying side effects, dependency, abuse, and in worse case situations, death. • 37. Gerald Fridman a.Agreement or promise theory Gerald Fridman contends that the primary purpose of contract law is to enforce the agreement of the parties. Agreement is the central element in determining whether there is a contract. Also, the existence of a contract requires the parties voluntarily intend to be bound by the agreement. In interpreting contracts, courts are primarily trying to carry out the intent of the contractual parties; therefore, when one party frustrates the intentions of the other party, a breach occurs. Charles Fried asserts that enforcing promises is the main purpose of contract law. One initiates a contract by invoking the practice of promising, and the other party can reasonably trust him or she will perform as promised in the future. If one fails to fulfill the promises, he or she then damages or ruins the trust, and exhibits disrespect for the other party. This behavior is morally wrong and condemned by the society. To enforce promises, the social practice of promising should be supplemented with additional rules or standards. The role of contract law is to provide rules and standards to further that purposes. When the promise principle under Fried s theory does not provide a ground for relief, other contract law principles may still fill the gap. For example, the principle of benefit requires compensating others for non gift benefits received from them. Additionally, contract law also enforces promise by awarding expectation ... Contrary to popular belief, black holes are not empty holes in space, but rather a massive amount of matter packed into a small area. The graphic to the right shows the simulated view of a black holein front of a Large Magellanic Cloud. The theory of these black holes was conceived in Einstein s theory of general relativity. It predicts that a plentiful compact mass will contort spacetime and create a black hole. The black hole acts like a perfect black body, in the sense that it reflects no light. The area where the nothing can escape is the event horizon. This event horizon has no features that can be detected from close up, and has huge effects on what will happen to the object that crosses it. Also, according to the to quantum field theory in curved spacetime, an event horizon will emit a black body radiation, also known as Hawking radiation. The graphic to the right shows where the event horizon, and the black hole itself, are located. It also shows the accretion disk, which is formed when matter falls into a black hole and is heated by friction. It is believed that black holes of extreme mass form when giant stars collapse. After this event, its continues to grow by absorbing the mass from its surroundings. The way scientists can tell the age of a black hole is by using the orbits of stars around it.
