P2PU School of Webcraft: Web developer training that’s free, open and globally accessible.
Mozilla and Peer 2 Peer University are creating the P2PU School of Webcraft, a new way to teach and learn web developer skills. Our classes are globally accessible, 100% free, and powered by learners, mentors and contributors like you.
Our goal is to provide a free pathway to skills and certification to help people build careers on open web technology. Existing developer training is expensive, out of touch, and out of reach. We leverage peer learning powered by mentors and learners like you and self-organized study groups. We use existing open and free learning materials
In this sixty minute session we'll briefly cover the inception of the Peer 2 Peer University along with details and success stories from the first three cycles of courses. We'll then dive into more detail about our collaboration with Mozilla Drumbeat including Mozilla's mission to engage the next million Mozillians. We'll present the P2PU School of Webcraft, and a case study of courses offered so far, including the first course, 'Mashing Up the Open Web.' Additionally, we'll introduce our plans to separate learning from assessment and our community driven credentialing system.

A stand-up version of a presentation on the "Greenhouse Effect" for use in the classroom or with small seminar groups. There are several advantages to doing this in widescreen, in addition to the increased visual impact. One advantage is showing more image area in rooms with low ceiling heights. With the new brighter generation of projectors, the light intensity (measure in lumens) is still quite good even with the longer throw distance this format requires. This is coupled with an increasing availability of projection screens in the 16:9 ratio. There is more room for graphics and photos in the layout options, making the presentation more visually stimulating. Finally, there's a viewer perception that the 16:9 format represents higher production values and a more upscale presentation.

What are the new means of digital distribution? How do you get videos in front of a massive Internet audience? What business opportunities arise? These are some of the most pressing issues concerning digital distribution. This session covers some answers as well as the latest trends on these topics.

Science meets Performing Arts meets Societyscratchpost
The Science meets Performance Art meets Society workshop with Ran Peleg and Cristina Olivotto at Szakacsi (Hungary) was an overwhelming experience.
Exchange of Community-engaged Performing Art Practices has been conducting this academy for three years now with the aim of building an inspiring network of organizations in the arts and theatre performance, as well as in the music development to improve the situation of underprivileged children. We were there to throw a bit of science meets society into the mix as an #agentofchange.
It was an opportunity to interact and intimately share space with a group of Roma people, social art practitioners -- dancers, theatre artists, clowns -- psychologists, and wonderful educators. I spent the week in a psychodrama workshop, learning how to be a clown, learning the art of Comedia dell'arte and sharing stories of science and society, and of course analysing our existence on this planet.
Muchos love and shot out to everyone who was there to make a crazy nice and reflective experience.
Thank you Balázs Simon, Timea Szőke, Petrányi Barna to make this experience possible.

A presentation at the science librarians orientation, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting 2013, Boston, MA:
the DeLaMare Science & Energy Library is actively working to dissolve traditional institutional boundaries in the library between the sciences, art, and engineering; transitioning from traditional STEM support, we’re building up STEAM in the library. This presentation offers rationale, along with a brief presentation of work being done to leverage the "unreasonable effectiveness" of recently introduced 3D printing and scanning services to meet needs of students and faculty across the sciences, engineering, and art.
Sains Terbuka: From Psychology with Love in ScienceJuneman Abraham
Materi paparan #SainsTerbuka di Program Studi Psikologi, FISIP, Universitas Brawijaya, 2019. Beberapa pemantik ke depan:

Webinar Series: Public engagement, education and outreach for CCS. Part 3: Ca...Global CCS Institute
The third webinar in the public engagement, education and outreach for CCS Series digged deeper, perhaps multiple kilometres deeper, to explore successful methods for engaging the public on the often misunderstood topic of carbon (CO2) storage.
Forget bad experiences of high school geology, we kick-started our 2017 webinar program with three ‘rock stars’ of CO2 storage communication – Dr Linda Stalker, Science Director of Australia’s National Geosequestration Laboratory, Lori Gauvreau, Communication and Engagement Specialist for Schlumberger Carbon Services, and Norm Sacuta, Communication Manager at the Petroleum Technology Research Centre who all joined Kirsty Anderson, the Institute’s Senior Advisor on Public Engagement, to discuss the challenges of communicating about CO2 storage. They shared tips, tools and some creative solutions for getting people engaged with this topic.
This entire Webinar Series has been designed to hear directly from the experts and project practitioners researching and delivering public engagement, education and outreach best practice for carbon capture and storage. This third webinar was less focused on research and more on the real project problems and best practice solutions. It is a must for anyone interested in science communication/education and keen to access resources and ideas to make their own communications more engaging.
This is a keynote presentation to "Open science, transparence et evaluation. Perspectives et enjeux pour les chercheurs.' Held at Urfist de Bordeaux, France, 4 April 2017

ABSTRACT: The way research is disseminated has changed immeasurably since the advent of the internet, yet we still reward researchers in the same way - for publication of novel results in high impact journals. This talk will start with a brief discussion of some of the big challenges the research sector is facing as a result and describe how Open Science can address these. The talk will then focus on the difficulty of introducing and implementing Open Science solutions. Open Science questions the status quo, and potentially threatens the established reputation of both institutions and individuals. It is not an easy concept to implement. While the discipline of Scholarly Communication takes a 'meta' view of the whole research ecosystem, most players in that system are working within a narrow view. It is very rare for individuals to be able to see beyond their own experience. Challenges for people trying to implement Open Science initiatives range from practical issues in implementing change, through to the people skills and negotiations required to convince individuals and institutions that this change is necessary.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
