Themes Connections Leadership Technological Tools Instructional Design
Leadership Teachers who are good leaders also know how to follow. Teachers must lead by example to inspire. Successful teachers need to be willing to mentor inexperienced teachers and be open to learning from them. Leaders can never stop learning themselves. Teachers need to create a community of learners Teachers need to develop relationships.
Technological Tools Technology can be used to enhance lessons and actively engage students. Students know how to use most tools. Teachers need to guide use of tools for more competent students. Anything can be put on the web. Creation of technology is challenging. Games can be a powerful tool.
Instructional Design Lessons need to incorporate many learning theories/styles. Students need to learn how to cooperatively work together to solve problems and develop new ideas. Students want their learning to be engaging and relevant. Lessons need to incorporate 21st century tools and skills to prepare students for their futures. Evaluation of learning needs to be a primary focus for both teachers and students.
The end of the journey Challenged my abilities with new skills, (but no techie - tech) Gained confidence to continue to challenge my ability to acquire new skills Developed close and lasting friendships Gained knowledge and experiences of students from different cultures and backgrounds Gained a greater self awareness Developed many ideas and lessons to be tried and tested
Food for thought… Continue to develop more area specific classes with trained instructors Add more of an “elementary” strand to the program Design programs to work with all computer platforms (PC vs Mac) Continue to develop cohorts for distance programs
The next step… Become an educational leader practicing what I have learned Sharing knowledge and skills acquired Challenge myself with new opportunities Move back to the regular classroom Guide teacher ed students by teaching some online classes Free time - for family and hobbies
The Future Begins with Us “The Future Begins With Us” by Teresa Jennings (ASCAP) © 1999 Plank Road Publishing, Inc. • All Rights Reserved • Used by permission It starts with you it starts with me it starts with us you see. The future starts right here right now beginning constantly. We can be the inspiration, we can hold the key. What do affects tomorrow its our destiny. The future begins with us and every moment we live lights the way. Yes, the future begins with us, this is our day. It all begins so magically in every day we see The future comes no matter what it happens instantly. If we have determination hope and unity, We can set a good example with our legacy. The future begins with us and every moment we live lights the way. Yes, the future begins with us, this is our day.
