This document outlines an ASSURE lesson plan for teaching first grade students the months of the year. The students have various learning abilities including ADHD. The plan is to have students sing a song and draw pictures to recite the months in order with 85% accuracy. The lesson will start with teaching a song but have backup plans using images if needed. Student participation will be encouraged and feedback collected. Evaluation will involve singing the song together, drawing pictures for different months, and putting the pictures in order.

A- The learners are a set of 1st
graders, each having their own individual way of
learning. The students have been classified as having ADHD, but this disability does
not define who the students are. Each student is affected differently. Learning is also
affected by gender and nationality so it’s important to get to know students and
understand what background it is that they’re coming from to ensure better results in
learning.
S- The students will identify and recite the months of the year in order by singing a
song and drawing pictures by the end of the week with 85% accuracy.

U- The method chosen to teach a group of students may not work for everyone. It is
important to have a back up plan in case the first option doesn’t work with educating
the children. After teaching the lesson, if the teacher realizes not all of the students
have grasped the material, it may be necessary to present the lesson from a different
approach. The media format I’ll be using first and foremost for this lesson will be
through audio and music, teaching a song to remember the months of the year. If that
does not work, then I will try images of what each month might look like whether it
be the seasons or the holidays in the months. Materials needed may include a CD
player and instruments or just the children’s voices and instruments they’ve made
themselves.

2. R- It is vital to get everyone involved while teaching the song. Active participation is
how students learn most affectively. Periodically the teacher should ask for student
feedback to know where he/she stands in the previously stated objective.
E- There are many ways for the teacher to evaluate the students and if they learned
what was taught. The teacher can have the students sing the song together that was
taught about the months of the year or split them into groups to sing to each other as
the teacher walks around the classroom. Another way is once the students are
comfortable with each month of the year; the teacher can assign a different month to
each student. The students could be asked to draw something that comes to mind
when they hear the certain month assigned to them. Once the pictures are drawn the
students will have to guess the month drawn and then put the pictures in order of the
months. This is a fun and easy way for the teacher to assess if the students learned
the months of the year.
