Thoreau Individualism
Civil Disobedience is defined as the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay
taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest. To several governments and
even some citizens, civil disobedience can be seen as a bad way of handling
situations. To others, it is just a way of expressing how they feel about decisions the
governmentmake and it makes them feel as though they have a voice in how the
decisions are mad. In the essay, Civil Disobedience, by Henry David Thoreau, there
are several connections made to how the people should react to the government
controlling them and what should be done about it. Civil Disobedience also makes
connections to the article, Faced With a Fracking Giant, This Small Town Legalized
Civil Disobedience. In both of these forms of writing, they discuss the main idea of
civil disobedience and the impacts it may have on the government and the people as
a whole.
In Henry David Thoreau s writing, he discusses the obstacles of civil disobedience
that he had to overcome within his own life experiences. Thoreau ... Show more

This article brings about a different approach than that of Thoreau s because it
focuses less on individualism and more on how the population as a whole would
be affected. This article discusses the legalization of civil disobedience in a small
town due to the use of wastewater injections that could possibly harm the
community and its citizens. The community only has one choice if the court system
and government fails them, as stated in the article, It s going to have to be bodies in
the road to stop those trucks if the courts fail us. As incorporated in the article, it
expresses how not just the individual citizen focus on himself or herself, but how all
of their decisions make a difference in the participation of civil
National Debt And Debt Of The Federal Government
National debt, the accumulated debt of the federal government, has always been a
major political issue for the government. The United States has always been in debt,
in fact, we started out in debt. In 1977, The Continental Congress needed to borrow
money to continue the Revolutionary War. As the years went by, and more presidents
took office, the national debt increased. As of September 1, 2016, the United States
national debt was listed to be $19.5 trillion. With all the national debt, the government
must find a way to use it. This is where deficit spending, the use of borrowed funds to
finance government expenditures that exceed taxrevenues, comes in.
Although national debt has a lot of disadvantages, there are also many advantages.
National debt gives countries the opportunity to receive extra funds to invest in
economic growth, and it s a safe way for foreigners to invest in a countries growth by
buying government bonds. National debt allows the government to fight against
contingencies, and also allows the government to build new roads and bridges,
improve education, job training, and provide pensions. This spurs citizens to spend
more instead of saving for retirement, further boosting economic growth. National
debt can also help cope with depression. Disadvantages of national debt include the
fact that governments tend to take on too much debt, and it will interfere with
economic conditions. Fighting against contingencies, such as tornadoes, hurricanes,
earthquakes
Was Gerald Ford s Presidency A Success Or A Failure
The Presidency of Gerald Ford It is difficult to decide whether the presidency of
America s 38th President, Gerald Ford was a success or a failure. In his short time
in office, Ford managed to leave a mixed legacy of controversy and satisfaction.
Many of the decisions made during Gerald Ford s presidency are questioned as to
whether they were positive or negative for the country. Some of the most disputable
issues from the Ford presidency have been debated and have drastically changed
public opinion. Ford s presidency was a temporary failure but can be considered
successful in the long term. Ford became the President of the United Statesunlike any
other president before him and was considered the accidental president. President

During the late 1960 s and the early 70 s, America suffered from extreme national
inflation. Prices of goods dramatically increased while money decreased in value.
Meanwhile, employment rates soared because of the baby boomer population
increase. The situation became so chaotic that the term stagflation was created to
describe what was going on. Stagflation was defined as a period of time with high
unemployment and inflation rates. Since there were a majority of Democrats in
Congress, Ford wanted to create a grassroots movement in order to influence the
government to solve the economic crisis. Ford addressed this problem during a
speech in 1974 where he proclaimed, There is only one point on which all advisers
have agreed: We must whip inflation right now (Ford). Inspired by this speech,
large red buttons with the slogan Whip Inflation Now were handed out to the
public. Many historians agree that this campaign turned into a failure. Ford tried to
succeed but the buttons were easily criticized for looking childish and inflation
grew throughout the rest of the 70 s. The WIN campaign may have failed but Ford
did not give up on the economy. On October 15th 1974, Ford passed the Federal
Elections Campaign Act of 1974 which greatly managed political spending for the
first time since the 1920 s. After some time, the process to help the economy started to
Organizations That Can Impact Human Performance
1.0 Introduction
There are many facets within organisations that can impact human performance.
Ergonomic interventions are responsible for workplace designs such as displays,
ease of use and aesthetics for example. However, for organisations to develop a
holistic approach to performance management, they need to consider theories
associated with social factors . Social factor is the study of human interaction and
how those interactions can affect both human and safety performance. Topics for
discussion to improve human performance and in the context of team work as a social
interaction will include system complexity and coupling.
According to Wilson et al. (2007, p. 246) effective team work is extremely important
when coordinated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social factor theorists suggest that individual behaviours are directly determined by
the pattern or structure of relationships within organisations. Therefore, the structures
of interpersonal relationships hinge directly on organisational outcomes such as
human performance (Carboni Ehrlich, 2013). By developing teams that encourage
trust, sharing of information and other concepts associated with team work,
organisations reduce the likelihood of unwanted behaviours or outcomes (Paletz et al.
2009).
Complexity and coupling are organisational dimensions used to help ascertain human
performance within complex systems. Wickens et al. (2004, p. 493) describes
complexity as the number of feedback loops, interconnected subsystems and invisible
unexpected interactions. Therefore, the behaviours of one system can indirectly
impact on the behaviour of another. Coupling implies that there is little slack in a
system and that all subsystems are tightly interconnected. Because coupling is
dependent on the interaction of subsystems, any disruptions along the system will
soon transfer to other parts. The degree of complexity and coupling impacts the
organisations probability of failure. High complex tightly coupled organisation are
more likely to experience catastrophic failures (Wickens et al. 2004). Due to the rigid
management structure
Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Harry Potter
Escaping from a man eating cyclops is no easy task, and neither is fighting the
Dark Lord himself. Odysseus is a very intelligent and motivated man who is the
King of Ithaca. He fights in the Trojan war but gets stuck sailing on the sea
searching for his way home. Harry Potter is also a very intelligent boy. At a very
young age his parents were killed by Lord Voldemort. Voldemort attempted to kill
Harry too, but failed, making Harry the boy who lived. On Harry s 11th birthday,
he received many letters inviting him to attend Hogwarts, a School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry. A man named Hagrid comes to take him and that is where Harry s
journey begins. They are pretty similar, but in some ways they differ. Some
similarities are that they use their wits and strengths to get their way through
problems, and they both have a desire to see their family. But they also differ in the
way that their goals are completely different, Odysseus wants to get home to Ithaca,
and Harry wants to stay as far away from his home, with the Dursleys as possible.
So they use their brain as a problem solver, they have a longing for their family, but
they both want to go in a different direction.
First off, Odysseus and Harry both use their wits. In the story of Odysseus, he is
stuck sailing on the sea. He comes face to face with many dangerous and terrifying
obstacles, and during every obstacle he has to survive whilst using his knowledge.
One big part of the story is when Odysseus and his men get
The Importance Of Operant Conditioning
Operant Conditioning Within the early 19th Century, Edward Throne like conducted
experiments on dogs and cats to determine the way these animals behave under
certain conditions. These studies were conducted through replicating and
standardizing the circumstances that the animals were in through a controlled
environment. As such, this model demonstrated that animals had the nature to learn
when they were presented with certain consequences. In 1938, Burrhus Friederich (B.
F.) developed the core idea of the Operant ConditioningSkinner, which claims that
operant conditioning, was brought about by the response from the operant under
threat (Sakagami, Lattal, 2016). Some factors were involved in the increase of the
operant conditioning especially when Edward Thorndike was examining the behavior
of cats and rats. It was necessary to consider the problem solving abilities of these
animals within puzzle boxes that would otherwise lead the animals in a state of
constraint. Moreover, there was a need to understand the relationship exhibited
between the appropriate reaction to the individual situation and the associated
strengths to the same. Moreover, other factors such as the ability of the animals to
learn under the conditions presented as was later proven by Skinner.
The core principles that are important in understanding the operant conditioning and
how it may result in the retention offer includes the operant variability where the
individual may experience emitted behavioral
Characteristics Of Medieval Gothic Architecture
1. Q: Who started the trend of medieval gothic architecture; who invented this and
what inspired them to create this type?
A: Abbot Suger created Medieval gothic architecture. He was inspired by the
Christians and their need for churches. This new perspective looked at God as light
and wanted the churches to not be dark any longer (The Art,1). The gothic medieval
architecture also wanted to display a church as more organic and welcoming. This
style also was representative of a balance between the look and its characteristics.
2. Q: What makes the style of medieval gothic architecture; main characteristics of
this style?

from other styles. These buildings are usually very tall, and have many levels that
makes the structure higher. The flying buttress is a major characteristic of this style,

As the years went by, and more presidents took office, the national debt increased. As of September 1, 2016, the United States national debt was listed to be $19.5 trillion. With all the national debt, the government must find a way to use it. This is where deficit spending, the use of borrowed funds to finance government expenditures that exceed taxrevenues, comes in. Although national debt has a lot of disadvantages, there are also many advantages. National debt gives countries the opportunity to receive extra funds to invest in economic growth, and it s a safe way for foreigners to invest in a countries growth by buying government bonds. National debt allows the government to fight against contingencies, and also allows the government to build new roads and bridges, improve education, job training, and provide pensions. This spurs citizens to spend more instead of saving for retirement, further boosting economic growth. National debt can also help cope with depression. Disadvantages of national debt include the fact that governments tend to take on too much debt, and it will interfere with economic conditions. Fighting against contingencies, such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes
  • 4. Was Gerald Ford s Presidency A Success Or A Failure The Presidency of Gerald Ford It is difficult to decide whether the presidency of America s 38th President, Gerald Ford was a success or a failure. In his short time in office, Ford managed to leave a mixed legacy of controversy and satisfaction. Many of the decisions made during Gerald Ford s presidency are questioned as to whether they were positive or negative for the country. Some of the most disputable issues from the Ford presidency have been debated and have drastically changed public opinion. Ford s presidency was a temporary failure but can be considered successful in the long term. Ford became the President of the United Statesunlike any other president before him and was considered the accidental president. President Richard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the late 1960 s and the early 70 s, America suffered from extreme national inflation. Prices of goods dramatically increased while money decreased in value. Meanwhile, employment rates soared because of the baby boomer population increase. The situation became so chaotic that the term stagflation was created to describe what was going on. Stagflation was defined as a period of time with high unemployment and inflation rates. Since there were a majority of Democrats in Congress, Ford wanted to create a grassroots movement in order to influence the government to solve the economic crisis. Ford addressed this problem during a speech in 1974 where he proclaimed, There is only one point on which all advisers have agreed: We must whip inflation right now (Ford). Inspired by this speech, large red buttons with the slogan Whip Inflation Now were handed out to the public. Many historians agree that this campaign turned into a failure. Ford tried to succeed but the buttons were easily criticized for looking childish and inflation grew throughout the rest of the 70 s. The WIN campaign may have failed but Ford did not give up on the economy. On October 15th 1974, Ford passed the Federal Elections Campaign Act of 1974 which greatly managed political spending for the first time since the 1920 s. After some time, the process to help the economy started to
  • 5. Organizations That Can Impact Human Performance 1.0 Introduction There are many facets within organisations that can impact human performance. Ergonomic interventions are responsible for workplace designs such as displays, ease of use and aesthetics for example. However, for organisations to develop a holistic approach to performance management, they need to consider theories associated with social factors . Social factor is the study of human interaction and how those interactions can affect both human and safety performance. Topics for discussion to improve human performance and in the context of team work as a social interaction will include system complexity and coupling. According to Wilson et al. (2007, p. 246) effective team work is extremely important when coordinated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social factor theorists suggest that individual behaviours are directly determined by the pattern or structure of relationships within organisations. Therefore, the structures of interpersonal relationships hinge directly on organisational outcomes such as human performance (Carboni Ehrlich, 2013). By developing teams that encourage trust, sharing of information and other concepts associated with team work, organisations reduce the likelihood of unwanted behaviours or outcomes (Paletz et al. 2009). Complexity and coupling are organisational dimensions used to help ascertain human performance within complex systems. Wickens et al. (2004, p. 493) describes complexity as the number of feedback loops, interconnected subsystems and invisible unexpected interactions. Therefore, the behaviours of one system can indirectly impact on the behaviour of another. Coupling implies that there is little slack in a system and that all subsystems are tightly interconnected. Because coupling is dependent on the interaction of subsystems, any disruptions along the system will soon transfer to other parts. The degree of complexity and coupling impacts the organisations probability of failure. High complex tightly coupled organisation are more likely to experience catastrophic failures (Wickens et al. 2004). Due to the rigid management structure
  • 6. Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Harry Potter Escaping from a man eating cyclops is no easy task, and neither is fighting the Dark Lord himself. Odysseus is a very intelligent and motivated man who is the King of Ithaca. He fights in the Trojan war but gets stuck sailing on the sea searching for his way home. Harry Potter is also a very intelligent boy. At a very young age his parents were killed by Lord Voldemort. Voldemort attempted to kill Harry too, but failed, making Harry the boy who lived. On Harry s 11th birthday, he received many letters inviting him to attend Hogwarts, a School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A man named Hagrid comes to take him and that is where Harry s journey begins. They are pretty similar, but in some ways they differ. Some similarities are that they use their wits and strengths to get their way through problems, and they both have a desire to see their family. But they also differ in the way that their goals are completely different, Odysseus wants to get home to Ithaca, and Harry wants to stay as far away from his home, with the Dursleys as possible. So they use their brain as a problem solver, they have a longing for their family, but they both want to go in a different direction. First off, Odysseus and Harry both use their wits. In the story of Odysseus, he is stuck sailing on the sea. He comes face to face with many dangerous and terrifying obstacles, and during every obstacle he has to survive whilst using his knowledge. One big part of the story is when Odysseus and his men get
  • 7. The Importance Of Operant Conditioning Operant Conditioning Within the early 19th Century, Edward Throne like conducted experiments on dogs and cats to determine the way these animals behave under certain conditions. These studies were conducted through replicating and standardizing the circumstances that the animals were in through a controlled environment. As such, this model demonstrated that animals had the nature to learn when they were presented with certain consequences. In 1938, Burrhus Friederich (B. F.) developed the core idea of the Operant ConditioningSkinner, which claims that operant conditioning, was brought about by the response from the operant under threat (Sakagami, Lattal, 2016). Some factors were involved in the increase of the operant conditioning especially when Edward Thorndike was examining the behavior of cats and rats. It was necessary to consider the problem solving abilities of these animals within puzzle boxes that would otherwise lead the animals in a state of constraint. Moreover, there was a need to understand the relationship exhibited between the appropriate reaction to the individual situation and the associated strengths to the same. Moreover, other factors such as the ability of the animals to learn under the conditions presented as was later proven by Skinner. The core principles that are important in understanding the operant conditioning and how it may result in the retention offer includes the operant variability where the individual may experience emitted behavioral
