The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan aims to enable higher education institutions to work with rural communities to identify development challenges and solutions. It seeks to create a virtuous cycle between academia and society by providing knowledge and practices for new professions. The goals are to build understanding of rural development, emphasize field work and societal objectives in education, stress useful outputs and new professions, and foster dialogue on science, society and the environment. The Abhiyan has a structural network and seeks financial support through base-level funding and sources for cluster activities. It welcomes participation as a mentoring institute, participating institute, subject expert, voluntary organization, development agency, philanthropist, CSR promoter, NSS member, or volunteer
