Kennydale Elementary School is a new 60,000 square foot K-6 school built in Renton, Washington in 2005 for the Renton School District. The central mechanical plant includes two high efficiency gas boilers providing hot water for the hydronic heating system and a 125 ton air cooled chiller for cooling. Individual classrooms are served by variable air volume units located above the second floor corridor while larger air handlers serve the administration and library wings.

Project Description
The new school was built in Renton to serve a
growing elementary school population. The
central heating plant consists of two high
efficiency boilers which pipe hot water through
a two pipe hydronic loop to various pieces of
mechanical equipment. A 125 ton air cooled
chiller provides cooling to the two pipe
changeover system. Air Handling Units, one
per classroom (or zone) are located above the
second floor corridor on a mezzanine level.
The Administration and Library Wing are
served by large air handlers with hydronic
heating/cooling coils. Each administrative
office is served by a variable air volume unit
box with heating coil, to allow individual zone
control. Large mechanical mezzanines make
easy access for serviceability of air handling
units. DDC controls provide the energy
management system.
