Responsibilities: Included to monitor and control the sectional budget, and to co-
ordinate and oversee installation and maintenance of conversional scraper winches,

Breakers (VCBs) and testing of protective devices i.e. Overload relays, Earth fault

Responsibilities: To carry out preventive maintenance of AC and DC Winders, this
included the following statutory regulations:
Dailies, which included checking for conditions of commutators, indicators,
operation of safety circuits, ropes for grease, cage or skip, without stopping the
plant.
Weekly examinations, which included checking for condition of brushes in the
motors and generators, rope examination, mechanical maintenance and electrical
panel maintenance.
Monthly examinations, which included testing of slack rope operation mechanical
and electronic, temperature devices, depth indicators and brakes.
26 weekly examinations included maintenance of rectifiers, circuit breakers, mine
winder controller or speed distance protection device, synchronous motors,
generators, motors, pumps, exciters and selsyns.
52 weekly examinations, which included maintenance of transformers, liquid
starters and distribution boards.
Projects-Konkola Copper Mines Plc
Upgrade of the Koepe Winder at Konkola 1 Shaft
The involved changing of the braking system from the clipper type to disc brakes
operated hydraulically and also changing from oil circuit breakers to vacuum
circuit breakers. The other aspect of the project involved changing the display
from the dial type to computerized display and also replacing of the mine winder
controller with the speed distance protection and associated controls.
Energy Meter Installation
Installation of energy meters at concentrator west mill to optimize the operation of
both rod and ball mills. The main aim was to monitor the energy consumption and
relate it to mill output.
Protection Grading
Alleviating the nuisance tripping at upper float substation at concentrator west
mill
