Not wasting time or money

Kaizen will put you first
It will make your work easier
It will make your work more
interesting
Let’s talk about Kaizen and if it will
improve our workplace.
Kaizen is about making a lot of small
changes that make how
we work better.
Kaizen doesn’t try and make
everything perfect in one step.
It starts with small changes.
And builds over time.
All of us are responsible for Kaizen.
You are the CEO of your Kaizen
You are involved in the
improvement process.
You can make suggestions for
change and we will listen.
What do we want to
achieve from Kaizen?
To identify where we can make
small changes to make
the way we work better.
How do we start Kaizen?
Kaizen is team work
We will work in teams to improve
each process.
Teams will get together and go
through how they work.
Kaizen is team work
The teams will then put how they
work into a flowchart.
I start
with this
Then I do
this
I end up
with this
This is what a flowchart looks like
Process flowcharts
We will look at each of the steps in
how we work.
We will measure how well we
work.
Measurements may be things like;
How much time did it take; How many people worked on a job
Process flowcharts
We will then see which steps add
value, which don’t add value, and
which are waste.
We will set targets for the steps we
want to change for the better.
Value Added (VA) Steps
VA Steps are ones the customer is
happy to pay for.
For example – counting the correct
number of tablets into a bottle.
Non Value Added (NVA) Steps
NVA Steps don’t add value to the
product for the customer, the
customer doesn’t want them or
need to know about them, but we
have to do them.
E.g. – changing over a machine from one product to another.

do you have
in this
bottle?
Waste Steps
Waste Steps don’t add value to the
product for the customer, who
doesn’t want or need them, and
we don’t have to do them.
E.g. – Waiting for Stores to issue material or QA to open a line.
How much
waiting do
you have in
this bottle?
Make Small Changes for the Better
Make NVA Steps as small as
possible.
Get rid of as many Waste Steps as
possible.
How will we know if we made it
better?
By comparing the measures of the
way we did the job before we
made changes to those after the
changes will tell us if we have
made it better.
We will not stop making it better
As each NVA Step is made smaller
or each Waste Step is removed;
We will go back over our work …
And do it again until all the waste is
removed.

Kaizen presentation for workers

  • 1. Our most important goal To only add value to our products that the customer is happy to pay for.
  • 2. Have you heard of Kaizen workplace?
  • 3. This is what I think it means: Making more product With the same number of workers Making product faster With the same machines Not wasting time or money Making more profit for the Company
  • 4. What’s in it for you? Kaizen will put you first It will make your work easier It will make your work more interesting
  • 5. Let’s talk about Kaizen and if it will improve our workplace.
  • 6. Kaizen is about making a lot of small changes that make how we work better.
  • 7. Kaizen doesn’t try and make everything perfect in one step. It starts with small changes. And builds over time.
  • 8. All of us are responsible for Kaizen.
  • 9. You are the CEO of your Kaizen You are involved in the improvement process. You can make suggestions for change and we will listen.
  • 10. What do we want to achieve from Kaizen?
  • 11. To identify where we can make small changes to make the way we work better.

  • 13. How do we start Kaizen?
  • 14. Kaizen is team work We will work in teams to improve each process. Teams will get together and go through how they work.
  • 15. Kaizen is team work The teams will then put how they work into a flowchart.
  • 16. I start with this Then I do this I end up with this This is what a flowchart looks like
  • 17. Process flowcharts We will look at each of the steps in how we work. We will measure how well we work. Measurements may be things like; How much time did it take; How many people worked on a job
  • 18. Process flowcharts We will then see which steps add value, which don’t add value, and which are waste. We will set targets for the steps we want to change for the better.
  • 19. Value Added (VA) Steps VA Steps are ones the customer is happy to pay for. For example – counting the correct number of tablets into a bottle.
  • 20. Non Value Added (NVA) Steps NVA Steps don’t add value to the product for the customer, the customer doesn’t want them or need to know about them, but we have to do them. E.g. – changing over a machine from one product to another. How many changeovers do you have in this bottle?
  • 21. Waste Steps Waste Steps don’t add value to the product for the customer, who doesn’t want or need them, and we don’t have to do them. E.g. – Waiting for Stores to issue material or QA to open a line. How much waiting do you have in this bottle?
  • 22. Make Small Changes for the Better Make NVA Steps as small as possible. Get rid of as many Waste Steps as possible.
  • 23. How will we know if we made it better? By comparing the measures of the way we did the job before we made changes to those after the changes will tell us if we have made it better.
  • 24. We will not stop making it better As each NVA Step is made smaller or each Waste Step is removed; We will go back over our work … And do it again until all the waste is removed.
