Why/how did we start?
• Improving the feedback to the students
  (National Student Survey)



• Inspired by the School of Dentistry
  (LIFTUPP project) . Staff use an iPad to assess and capture the
  performance of a student.



• See what an iPad could do for us!

                    So we applied to the Research & Development

  individually writing out, naming and dating the traditional hard copy”

  “I think it allows far more broad feedback. We often give feedback as going
  along but students do not often see this as feedback”

  “Nothing”

  • 2. Why/how did we start? • Improving the feedback to the students (National Student Survey) • Inspired by the School of Dentistry (LIFTUPP project) . Staff use an iPad to assess and capture the performance of a student. • See what an iPad could do for us! So we applied to the Research & Development Sub-Group and were successful!

Feedback ( Staff) • Could you comment on how this project affected your work? “When the clinics were not busy, it helped assessment of practical tasks but if busy ….” • Do you think that it allowed you to give more feedback? “Yes – Especially for practical tasks” • What would you change to improve that pilot project “Change the assessment/feedback form”

Feedback ( Students) • How did this affect your performance during the rotation “Helped to see where you could improve” “It gave me an idea of how I was doing” • How does it compare with the feedback you have received in other rotation “Nice to have midweek feedback” “Better than nothing but I prefer oral feedback” • What would you change to improve that pilot project “Has to be meaningful and personal otherwise not worth doing”

Fast + efficient” • Do you think that it allowed you to give more feedback? “Yes – the midweek was very useful as students can improve” • What would you change to improve that pilot project “Keep the iPad for the entire week”

Nothing”

Feedback ( Staff) • Could you comment on how this project affected your work? “I felt the iPad was much easier and quicker to provide feedback than individually writing out, naming and dating the traditional hard copy” • Do you think that it allowed you to give more feedback? “I think it allows far more broad feedback. We often give feedback as going along but students do not often see this as feedback” • What would you change to improve that pilot project “Nothing”

Version 4 (Resit) • How did this affect your performance during the rotation “Was good to have feedback” “I thought it was useful” • How does it compare with the feedback you have received in other rotation “Better” “Mixed feedback in other rotations so it was helpful to know progress” • What would you change to improve that pilot project “Encourage member staff to use this system”
