America has the feeling of sophistication and success, however that's not what the people living in
the alleyway, or people living off of welfare. Every year there are 1.2 million dropouts, and every
twenty–seven seconds there is another dropout, that's 7,000 a day (dosomething.org). Just because a
student drops out of high school does not mean they have to become a leech off of society. High
school dropouts either need to get a diploma or equivalent.
Job Corps is a great location for dropouts to go, they offer diplomas and job career training. Job
Corps centers have graduated over 22,000 students since 2008 (fosteredu.pennfoster.edu). One
student by the name of Shawna dropped out of high school after 10th grade! She applied for Job
Corps and after getting accepted into the Clearfield Job Corps she began the process of finishing
high school. She took a test to see where she was at, then she took classes, earned a diploma, and
began technical training to become a pharmacy technician. Shawna has since passed her exams and

two high schools– Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD and Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High

My mind got tired and I did not feel like making the effort so I left school. My parents encouraged
me to enroll somewhere else to get an education.
Once I was out of school, I spent my time constantly thinking about things to do. Whether it was
watching television or talking on the phone with a friend. I would sometimes Google new
information on different subjects I took interest in for what felt like hours. Discovering new kinds of
music was another thing I found interesting. I always looked forward to hanging out with friends
whenever I got the chance to. One of the other main things I looked forward to doing was to
skateboarding. I did not mind skating most of the time because it was fun. With practice, I became a
really skilled skater; I could do high flips and quick turns on the board. I do not really have that
much fun unless I really enjoy doing something. It was a lot of fun, but after a few months of being

In the novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates it tells the story of two boys with the
same name but two very different mindsets in life. "Life and death, freedom and bondage, hang in
the balance of every action we take" (xiv). Wes Moore (1), the author, has had many things that
impacted to his mindset that led to good and evil choices thought–out his life. Wes Moore (2) had
made decisions that set a wrong mindset that would leave him in one place for the rest of his life.
The mindsets of Wes Moore (1) and Wes (2) impacted their chances with the law, their choices with

There's a theory where any given person has infinite paths of life. For every action there is a new
path, and the paths keep dividing and extending, each one having new sets of outcomes and
opportunities for the person to encounter. The book The Other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore, is a
philosophically interesting book as it talks about these paths. Two boys named Wes Moore grew up
in similar situations, yet their actions led to them going on two different paths, leading to two
completely different lives. The book gives some insight into how these two Wes' actions as youth
led them on their paths. One theme occurring in the text was chances, and specifically second
chances, which shaped Wes and Wes throughout their youth. While both Wes' got their first and

The Other Wes Moore is an autobiography by Wes Moore: who stumbled upon another man with a
name that was a carbon copy of his. Curious, Wes Moore decided to research this man's past only to
find out that they had grown in similar neighborhoods and with identical backgrounds (both lacking
a father figure). Except, their fates were entirely different and in each story a turning point occurred
that ushered greatness for one but desolation for the other.

According to Wes Moore's words in the epilogue, I determined the factor that was his turning point
as he clearly indicates that he was "entrusted with responsibilities" by strong mentors (179). Most of
the responsibilities Wes Moore was entrusted with began at his study in the military school. On the
other hand, the other Wes Moore's responsibilities were a product of bad influence and polyamory.
I believe that the other Wes Moore's fate would have been prevented had he adhered to the life he

I attended the McKinney Job Corps a mighty long time ago. I remeber being so scared because the
girls were aggressive and down right direspectful to the instructors. No matter what your story there

Everything was very expensive and most of the houses were built of straw. When the autumn came
and the rain came down it flooded the houses. There were also fires that would break out and
destroy the houses completely. People would lose everything they had and people had nowhere to
go. I would see the children in the streets in the cold who did not have a safe place to live in. There
wasn't much I could do to help them either. My own family and I were trying to survive. I missed

I was convinced that I would have had to spend another three years in public high school, which for
me was out of the question. Within the first two days of being in this program I felt entirely different
about coming to school. For once I was excited to get up and make some progress. The program has
helped me a lot with narrowing down what I want to do in my future and has helped me map out
how to get there. A part of the program, as well as a requirement for us to graduate, is a portfolio.
Which is essentially a binder of assignments that prepare us for jobs and future educational

everything including our jobs. Two kids named Wes moore, similar in age grow up just blocks from

On the surface the nation's commitment in providing access to any individual seeking entry to Job
Corps seems to be working. Now underneath the surfs is another story of this apparent success. With
these dire economic times a supportive system that we can create by combining the education
systems through partnerships with other schools, organizations, and companies would enable the
next generation of students. It will allow them to further their careers and education giving them the
chance to flourish into a generation to remember. Now that President Obama has called for

hidden from us and releasing them to their full potential. Now doing this will help change the
workforce of tomorrow and the future of our nation's education, economics, and economy. Now
even though Job Corps is a program that helps young adults it has had much criticism with no

How Job Corps Changed My Life
Before Job Corps my life had been going downhill, see my Mom wasn't in my life. While I've been
at Job Corps I've learned many things. I believe I have a bright future. My Mom wanted to be there
but she had no choice. She at the time left a three year old and I at the time was ten years old so I
had to step up and take care him. My Dad would always be at work at times my older Sister would
also help but ever since then I just felt like a Mom. Growing up it was just me and my little Brother.
I missed out a lot as a kid because I had a big responsibility in my hands. When I got out of
Elementary I was barely going to school. My grades were bad, my attendance even worse, and it
was all because I didn't care anymore. Being in school, I was always either late, skipping ... Show
My Middle School year to my Junior year I was moving to different schools and again my
attendance and grades were not improving. I was doing so bad my Dad sent me to live with my
Sister which is two hours away from where I lived. I went to a new School, I hung out with the
wrong people, and on the third day or my second week I got suspended and I didn't care at all. I just
wanted to go home. I ended up going to a Continuation school. Some students I would hang out
with would talk to me about how they messed up and it's hard for them now that they want to
graduate knowing I was going to soon be in there shoes. I still didn't care till later. I was where they
are in their shoes. It didn't hit me till I got notified at school that I was going to have to go to court. I
didn't want to put my Dad through it. My friends Mom knew what was going on because her
Daughter was the same so she recommended us this program. I was interested so I decided to join

Personal Narrative: My Journey To Job Corps
For my skills writing I am going to write about my journey to Job Corps. The elementary school I
attended was Daniel A. Payne elementary and my middle school I attended was Kelly miller middle
school. My high school I attended was H.D Woodson and I never completed the ninth grade because
my mom had recommended Job Corps to me because of problems I had in school.
I had good grades when I was in school but when I went to high school I had got into too many
fights. I left in the ninth grade and when I did that I waited until I was 16 then I applied to Potomac
job corps center. When I was at Potomac I had a rocky start but my grades got better and I was
trying to get my GED. The trade I was in was brick masonry and I liked it a lot, it was fun ... Show
While I was in carpentry I began to like it and I was also doing better in GED classes. I also had did
the GED text and passed everything on it except for the math by ten points and it frustrated me.
Unfortunately I was terminated for AWOLS and I started to work for a moving company and I did
that for about a year. I was also making some decent cash so I was happy with it but after a while I
got tired of it. I started to search for other jobs and I had multiple interviews but I could never get
hired because I didn't have my GED or high school diploma.
After speaking to my mother about my situation she recommended that I should try going back to
job corps and get my high school diploma. I had agreed with my mom's suggestion and I applied to
go to Woodland Job Corps center and about a month later I came here. To be honest when I first got
here I didn't like it at all but after a while I began to like it here. So far I am doing pretty well in the
carpentry trade and high school diploma class. I tabed out of the reading test and I have a high score
on my math tabe. So far I haven't gotten one write–up and I have been staying out of
