Job Corps Research Paper
America has the feeling of sophistication and success, however that's not what the people living in
the alleyway, or people living off of welfare. Every year there are 1.2 million dropouts, and every
twenty–seven seconds there is another dropout, that's 7,000 a day (dosomething.org). Just because a
student drops out of high school does not mean they have to become a leech off of society. High
school dropouts either need to get a diploma or equivalent.
Job Corps is a great location for dropouts to go, they offer diplomas and job career training. Job
Corps centers have graduated over 22,000 students since 2008 (fosteredu.pennfoster.edu). One
student by the name of Shawna dropped out of high school after 10th grade! She applied for Job
Corps and after getting accepted into the Clearfield Job Corps she began the process of finishing
high school. She took a test to see where she was at, then she took classes, earned a diploma, and
began technical training to become a pharmacy technician. Shawna has since passed her exams and
has started the Job Corps internship and a pharmacy in Centerville. Job Corps' high school diploma
program sees an 80 percent graduation rate (fosteredu.pennfoster.edu). This display shows that Job

organized social carnivals for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and helped set up and run–walks for March

I grew up with both of my parents who mostly spoke Vietnamese. Vietnamese was my primary
language at home, and I became very fluent in it. A majority of my friends also spoke Vietnamese. I
put a lot of effort towards my education. Learning English was by the far the most difficult
challenges for me and I felt that it held me back from my education. I found it difficult to practice
my English such as learning grammar, reading, writing, and speaking. These factors along with
other limitations made English one of my most difficult subjects. I started to find ways to improve
with my English like by adding subtitles when watching films. English is still one of my biggest
challenges today but I strive to do my

I Am Going To Write About My Journey To Job Corps. Before
I am going to write about my journey to Job Corps. Before I got to this training center, I attended
two high schools– Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD and Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High
School in Upper Marlboro, MD. I started Bladensburg as a freshman in the fall of 2013, but later I
transferred in the fall of 2014 to Henry A. Wise. I dropped out of high school in 2015, but I do not
remember the exact date. I decided to go to Job Corps instead to get a high school diploma and learn
a trade since a friend spoke to me about the program.
I started Bladensburg as a freshman in the fall of 2013. I was honestly a bit excited to start high
school like most middle schoolers are these days. I started doing okay academically, or at least I ...

My mind got tired and I did not feel like making the effort so I left school. My parents encouraged
me to enroll somewhere else to get an education.
Once I was out of school, I spent my time constantly thinking about things to do. Whether it was
watching television or talking on the phone with a friend. I would sometimes Google new
information on different subjects I took interest in for what felt like hours. Discovering new kinds of
music was another thing I found interesting. I always looked forward to hanging out with friends
whenever I got the chance to. One of the other main things I looked forward to doing was to
skateboarding. I did not mind skating most of the time because it was fun. With practice, I became a
really skilled skater; I could do high flips and quick turns on the board. I do not really have that
much fun unless I really enjoy doing something. It was a lot of fun, but after a few months of being
home getting a high school diploma became important. I wanted to learn a trade to be able to get a
job as well. Finally, I took my friend's suggestion and enrolled in Job Corps to complete my
education.
I had got on–line and found the Job Corps website and called a number I saw there. The person that
I talked to about Job Corps on the phone –emailed me some more information I wanted and needed

where there were two cops waiting for me. They brought me to the police station and took me to

court day the judge called my name. When I went up then he called the boy I had a fight with but he
didn't show up so the judge gave me a different court day. On my second court day, same as the first,
the boy and his mother didn't come so the judge dismissed my case. My mom was getting tired of
me getting in trouble. She even found out that I was smoking weed. So right after school she wanted
me to come home. I was doing it for a few months; when it was summer time, I was coming in the
house late and sometimes I smelled like weed, making my mom mad. My mother stopped giving me
money so I had to find a way to get the things I liked. I started selling weed to kids at school and my
friends. My mom was getting suspicious so she cleaned my room one day and found weed and
bullets for a gun I was holding for my friend. My mother flushed the weed and the bullets down the

The Other Wes Moore Analysis
In the novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates it tells the story of two boys with the
same name but two very different mindsets in life. "Life and death, freedom and bondage, hang in
the balance of every action we take" (xiv). Wes Moore (1), the author, has had many things that
impacted to his mindset that led to good and evil choices thought–out his life. Wes Moore (2) had
made decisions that set a wrong mindset that would leave him in one place for the rest of his life.
The mindsets of Wes Moore (1) and Wes (2) impacted their chances with the law, their choices with
education and their opportunities with employment. The chances that Wes (1) and Wes (2) had with
the law were affected by their mindset. Wes Moore (1) had a friend named, Shea. Shea had a bad
reputation within the neighborhood. Shea worked the area so much that let him to be the "... the
most respected young hustlers in the neighborhood" (80). One day Shea and Wes (1) were hanging
out when Shea asked if Wes (1) wanted to go tag buildings. As Wes (1) was looked around for cops
as he put his mark "Kid Kupid" on the wall in front of them when they heard the sound of a cop
siren "wuap, wuap" (81). Shea and Wes took off running in different directions. Wes "Foolishly,

Analysis Of The Other Wes Moore
There's a theory where any given person has infinite paths of life. For every action there is a new
path, and the paths keep dividing and extending, each one having new sets of outcomes and
opportunities for the person to encounter. The book The Other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore, is a
philosophically interesting book as it talks about these paths. Two boys named Wes Moore grew up
in similar situations, yet their actions led to them going on two different paths, leading to two
completely different lives. The book gives some insight into how these two Wes' actions as youth
led them on their paths. One theme occurring in the text was chances, and specifically second
chances, which shaped Wes and Wes throughout their youth. While both Wes' got their first and
second chances, they each treated them differently. Thesis: How each Wes viewed their second
chances changed the outcome of the situation. XXX Wes Moore, the author of the book, decided to
take his second chance and fully use it by changing his attitude and motives. Wes had just tried to
escape from his army camp for the second time and failed. He went to see the Cadet Captain, whose
way of getting respect was something new to him. Wes writes: "In spite of myself, I was impressed.
I had never seen anything like that before. I had never seen a man, a peer, demand that much respect
from his people. I had seen Shea demand respect in the neighborhood, but this was different. This
was real respect, the kind you can't beat out of

American Needs More Government Jobs Programs Essay
According to Livermore (2008), people who are actively looking for work but are not currently in a
contractual arrangement are considered unemployed. Since the recession in 2007, unemployment
has been an ongoing problem in America. Many companies were laying off thousands of employees
because they could not pay them. As of September 2011, the South and the West has the highest
concentration of unemployment. Nevada has the highest jobless rate, 13.4%, followed by California
with 12.1% (Cooper, 2011). The collapse of the housing bubble left Nevada with high rates of
unemployment. South Carolina's unemployment rate is 11.1% and is the fourth highest in the nation

Personal Narrative: A Day At Old Dominion Job Corp Center
The day I left home to come to Old Dominion Job Corp Center on July 21, 2015, was a very
memorable day in my life. My step–dad drove me to Richmond, VA to catch the Greyhound bus to
the Lynchburg bus station. We departed at 11 o'clock in the morning from Richmond. I was scared
and happy at the same time before I left. My mom packed me so much stuff that we had to pay for
the extra bag I carried. On the bus, it was slam packed with people from all over the U.S.A. The first
hour or so I couldn't stop crying, I was just lost in too many thoughts. But it got better after the first
two hours, after that I was very content with my decision to go. The bus had free Wi–Fi so most of
the time I was on Facebook, Instagram, listening to music or either sleeping. Around 4pm we finally
arrived at Old Dominion Job Corps center. We were met by security that opened the door and started

Marine Corps Job Analysis
I grew–up watching my father advance himself to the rank of Colonel in the Marine Corps. It was
because of him I developed a strong desire to be part of a brotherhood. By the time I got to college I
knew I wanted a career that was structured similarly to the military, but with opportunities to serve
my community at a local level. I started my educational career at Hillsborough Community College,
where I received my associate's degree and continued onto the University of South Florida, where I
received a bachelor's degree in Criminology.
Before joining PCSO, I was employed at the Best Buy electronics store in Brandon for
approximately 3 years, as a Loss Prevention supervisor. At Best Buy I was in charge of safety and

Wes looked up to his mother she was the good in his life. Without this role model the author Wes's
life could have been very different, but his mother is who helped him do great things with his life.
Besides the fact that both Wes's had a role model in their life, they have very different lives.
Additionally both men have jobs, their jobs have huge impacts on their futures. Notably one job was

Stimulating Patriotism and Promoting Economic Prosperity...
World War II was of great importance to the United States of America. Women also had an
important role in this war. The war effort stimulated patriotism and promoted economic prosperity.
American industry quickly transformed to war production in order to contribute to the nation's
military necessities. When the men left to fight in war, women were left with the men's duties back
on the home front. During World War II, approximately 350,000 women served in the U.S. on the
home front and overseas. The working industry instituted a campaign urging women to do their part
to meet wartime manufacturing quotas. It wasn't common for women at this time to work outside
the home, but this war needed every helping hand possible, woman or man. World War II brought
about the new trend of women earning their own money for themselves instead of always having to
rely on their husband's money. This gave a sense of independence to women of this era. Besides
working on the home front, some women also volunteered for war service and join a various amount
of women's branches in the armed forces; such as the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, which
eventually became the Women's Army Corp (WAC). The Women's Army Corps was the first time
women were given a full military rank. Women pilots also came about, these women were in an
organization called Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASP). The WASP was not easy to be
accepted into and only a limited number of women who applied were accepted. There was

Benefits Of Raising Minimum Wage
Creating jobs, raising minimum wage, donating to the poor are not going to erase the poverty out of
the United States of America. The government defines poverty as the bottom fifteen percent of
annual income. No matter what one does to increase a person's income there will always be
someone in poverty. Across America there are always charities, religious groups, and civic clubs
who are giving to the poor––from food giveaways, clothing giveaways, free tutoring, free health
screenings, whatever else there is constantly something for the poor to benefit from. The problem is
that people want to help, but if they are constantly giving the needy these items, services, or money,
then are the poor becoming dependent? When will one person stop ... Show more content on

If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime" ("Chinese" par. 1). This ancient proverb has
some truth in it. Right now in America, the poor are not being taught "how to fish" instead they are
relying on charities to give away food and clothing for them to survive. Through work readiness
programs and a reform in food and clothing distribution, charities can cut the parasite of the
dependent poor and prepare them to go out and earn what they need. Job preparation programs are
an excellent way to minister the poor and needy by preparing them for the future and empowering
them to be able to take care of themselves. In Seat Pleasant, Maryland, the Training Source offers
job–training program, self–improvement workshops, and skill training. The Training Source is
teaching those who do not have jobs, job skills which will equip them and help them to find a job
(Singletary par. 9). Once the poor and needy have a job, they will not need to rely on donations of
food and clothing to survive. In my hometown, Anniston, Alabama, the Christians Women's Job
Corp and the Christian Men's Job Corp pairs men and women up with mentors who will help the
needy with obtaining their GED, interviewing skills, resume building, how to dress for success, and
applying for jobs. The job corps also provide, upon completion of classes, interview appropriate
clothing and transportation to job interviews. Both of these programs are helping

Wes Moore: The Turning Point
The Other Wes Moore is an autobiography by Wes Moore: who stumbled upon another man with a
name that was a carbon copy of his. Curious, Wes Moore decided to research this man's past only to
find out that they had grown in similar neighborhoods and with identical backgrounds (both lacking
a father figure). Except, their fates were entirely different and in each story a turning point occurred
that ushered greatness for one but desolation for the other.
The Other Wes Moore, was a young man who delved into a life of misery when he decided to walk
in the footsteps of his brother, Tony, who had become a prominent figure in the drug game around

She convinced her parents to put all their money–they kept in their home in the Bronx–into Wes'
education at the Valley Forge Military Academy. This money was "decades of savings and mortgage
payments" (Moore 96).
Valley Forge was Wes Moore's turning point. Not that his stay there was a walk in the park, but
more because he was kept away from the turbulent lifestyle that was embraced in his neighborhood
in the Bronx and submerged into a life of enforced self–responsibility and leadership at a young age.
In the epilogue of The Other Wes Moore, Wes Moore states:
...I've become convinced that there are some clear and powerful measures that can be taken during
this crucial time in a young person's life. Some of the ones that helped me come to mind, from
finding strong mentors to being entrusted with responsibilities that forced me to get serious about
my behavior. (Moore 179)
According to Wes Moore's words in the epilogue, I determined the factor that was his turning point
as he clearly indicates that he was "entrusted with responsibilities" by strong mentors (179). Most of
the responsibilities Wes Moore was entrusted with began at his study in the military school. On the
other hand, the other Wes Moore's responsibilities were a product of bad influence and polyamory.
I believe that the other Wes Moore's fate would have been prevented had he adhered to the life he
chose to live after graduation from the Job Corps program. If he found a community of

actually take the time to exhume the bodies, a lot of those bodies weren't buried in caskets and so

Louis job corps and having the capacity to have this open door was a gift for me in light of the fact
that I was living house to house and kicked out from distinctive houses. I'm truly grateful for having
the capacity to do this. Another reason I picked Carpentry is the main thing I have seen my father do
growing up when he was a major part of my life all the time he would work his hardest to see that I
had what I needed. He even gave me a chance to help him when he took a shot at individual's homes
and workplaces. When I did my hands on for carpentry I felt like this is the place I should have been
and he would be proud of me on that I did this and I would be cheerful to. I need to be cheerful I
haven't felt joy in a while I would need me and my father to begin an organization one day. Being
19 in life now I realize that I need to grow up and show development as a man. Carpentry is not
simply flooring. You can essentially figure out how to assemble anything and appreciate building it
on the grounds that you have what it takes to do as such. With this exchange declaration it will help
me open numerous open doors later on. When I finish the program they are going to have a job line
up for me. The job occupation is good for Carpenters with median pay close to $40,000 per year or
$19 per hour. The job outlook is over 20% growth which has been indicated as a faster growth rate
than most other occupations. I am looking forward to following in my father's footsteps and finally

Job Corps
Job Corps offers opportunities to receive academic and professional success. Because of this, I have
several reasons for enrolling in this program. My first reason is I did not succeed in passing the high
school graduation test. Secondly, this is another chance to prove to myself that I can do it. Thirdly,
my son needs to know just as much as I do that he should never give up on anything ever in life.
People do not realize that in life they must take advantage of the opportunities given and stay
focused on success. Although this was a second chance, for me it is the beginning of a new life, And

The training that I am getting here is more that I ever expected. I am so motivated, that as soon as I
complete Job Corps I plan to attend college. I plan to take advantage of everything that is on my
pathway to success. My mantra is failure is not an option.
When I complete Job Corps, I will have earned my high school diploma. Also I will be certified in
Finance and Business. Two of my personal goals will be accomplished. I hope to be an
encouragement to other young women who have faced challenges and life and thought about giving
up and giving in to how society has prejudged young, single black mothers. I want them to know
that if they are motivated toward success, that opportunity is available to them. Lastly but certainly
not least, I want to walk across the stage and receive my diploma. Not only will I be happy, but the
support that I have gotten from so many, especially my mother will be well worth it. I want her to
know that all she has done for me, not giving up on me when I could have given up on myself, was
not in vain. I am grateful to the Atlanta Job Corp for this wonderful endeavor and experience. I am
grateful to my family and friends, even the newly acquired ones, for their encouragement. Most I

College Essay On Carpentry Work
The trade I am currently learning at the Woodland Job Corps Center is carpentry. I selected this
trade because I wanted to learn how to do things such as carpentry basics, blueprint reading and
repairing. I want to enter this career because I am a hands– on learner and I would be able to
accomplish many things with this training experience.
Carpentry will allow me to have a chance at success in the job market because there are several
opportunities and different career paths you can take as a skilled carpenter. Once I leave Job Corps I
will seek employment in the Riverdale or Bladensburg areas of Maryland. I would like to work for

I plan to work as a carpenter in the Residential Building Construction Company in Riverdale,
Maryland.
Carpenters typically complete the following tasks during a weeks' work "which include use of
mathematic specifically the metric system, estimation skills, and measurements" (Onet). There is the
necessity of knowing what the building codes are and how to implement them. I know I will be
using the tools and machinery we have had in our carpentry class, such as drywall, fiberglass, drills
ladders, sanders and planes. According to our text book these "are tools and techniques provided by
all carpenters" (Vogt).
This vocation is a good choice for me because I will be able to use my strengths and abilities to
develop a solid career in carpentry. My earnings will be decent and should be steady because there
is a lot of construction and remodeling work in the area of Maryland where I live, and also in
Washington D. C. which is not far away. I am looking forward to begin my career; my expected

Rwanda very much but it had changed so much, and we could not go back. After the situation had

Wes Moore 's The Chilling Truth
Wes Moore the author says, "The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy
is that my story could have been his." In my opinion, I agree with Wes Moore the authors' statement;
there were several times throughout the lives of both the successful Wes Moore and the other Wes
Moore that went to prison could have impacted either one of them to go down the opposite path that
they originally took. The reasoning as to why I believe the other Wes Moore could have went down
a path to success is if the other Wes Moore had the same family support as the author Wes Moore
and if his brother who had a big influence on Wes, was not involved in the drug game. While both
Wes Moore's are both fatherless, the author Wes Moore was a lot luckier than the other Wes Moore,
because he had his grandparents to help raise him. With the support of his grandparents, Wes had
someone to look after him and also help steer him in the right direction if needed. His grandparents
gave Wes and his sisters a set of rules and chores to do every single day. Compared to the other Wes
Moore, he did not have any sort of discipline or rules to go by in his house due to the fact his mother
and brother were never really at home. Furthermore, with the other Wes Moore, he only had his
mother and his brother Tony, who both were not a good influence on him at all. The other Wes
Moore looked up to his brother and wanted to be exactly like Tony. For example, when Wes got into

Service Learning At The Harpers Ferry Job Corps Orientation
I did not know what service–learning was until I read the articles assigned for class. The articles
along with going to the Harpers Ferry Job Corps orientation really showed me what it was all about.
The reading and the class presentation have challenged my first thoughts by giving me a better
understanding of what service learning is. Service–learning goes a couple of miles further than
community service. Service–learning allows students to help the community, as well as learn about
something. For example, my Education class is going to be tutoring students at Job Corps. Our class
is providing the Harpers Ferry community a free service of tutoring to those who need it while
hopefully my peers and I will gain a solid understanding of what it would be like to teach one–on–
one. Service–learning has three main components: community service, instruction, and reflection.
Those components work well together and make service–learning seem like the perfect answer to
helping education grow into a more progressive way. However, students need to have a high
responsibility, they have to take the initiative, as well as make choices. If students do not do that, the
success of service–learning will be lacking.
The value of tutoring through Job Corps will be a crucial step in my education career. I think this
experience it like stepping–stones that will help me obain a stronger grasp of what being a teacher
will be like. I believe that this experience will make or break

look for somebody that is professional that knows what is expected of them and someone that's
going to try to meet their expectations. I considered myself to be an extrovert as well as an introvert

The Roles Of Wasps During The World War II
By the fall of 1944, half of the ferrying division's fighter pilots were women. WASPs made three–
quarters of the domestic deliveries of all domestic deliveries of fast fighters.
Another job WASPs had was flying target planes. This job may have been the most dangerous one
of them all. WASPs flew the planes back and forth with a target trailing twenty–five feet behind
them, as antiaircraft crews shot at them. During these tests, two WASPs lost their lives. Although
they never had to see the firefights from overseas, they had a taste of their own firepower. Even
though two of their own died, WASPs had an accident percent of nine percent as opposed to the
male percentage of eleven.
Even after all their hard work, the women pilots were never part of any military branch. The women
were never part of the armed forces, and their only benefit was the pay they received. In 1944, they
almost became militarized; however the air war was simmering down and recently trained male
pilots were in need of assignments. WASPs retained their domestic duties, while 36,000 male pilots
joined the infantry in the War Service Training program. Director Cochran officially disbanded the
WASP program in the same year.
With a yet another big war in full swing, women had their own branches of the armed forces.
American people, both men and women, signed up for the armed forces by hundreds of thousands.
The first and largest division was the Women's Army Corps (WAC). Approximately 140,000 women

about coming to school. For once I was excited to get up and make some progress. The program has
helped me a lot with narrowing down what I want to do in my future and has helped me map out
how to get there. A part of the program, as well as a requirement for us to graduate, is a portfolio.
Which is essentially a binder of assignments that prepare us for jobs and future educational

The Other Wes Moore Analysis
Impacts On A Life "If [others] expect us to graduate, we will graduate. If they expect us to get a job,
we will get a job. If they expect us us to go to jail, then that's where we will end up too" (Moore
127). In Wes Moore's book The Other Wes Moore expectations from our role models impact
everything including our jobs. Two kids named Wes moore, similar in age grow up just blocks from
each other, with difficult childhoods including run ins with the police and hanging with their crew.
One becomes a Rhodes scholar, decorated veteran and business leader, and the other ends up a
convicted murderer serving a life sentence in prison. Their stories could have been switched with so
many similarities in their life but the slight differences changing their paths. Similarities and
differences pertaining to role models and jobs of both Moores were described in The Other Wes
Moore. Both the author Wes and the "other" Wes have role models in their life that affect their
choices. Unfortunately one of the Wes's role model was not a positive figure in his life. In the
beginning of the book the "other" Wes describes his daily life. His mother, which was his only
parent was very absent from his life. She was a single working parent who was rarely home during
the day. Wes tells tony, "[She] was usually out of the house by 8:30 and didn't come back until well
into the evening. Wes, now eight years old, was free from any adult supervision until then" (Moore
26). Without a role model or even

My Middle School year to my Junior year I was moving to different schools and again my
attendance and grades were not improving. I was doing so bad my Dad sent me to live with my
Sister which is two hours away from where I lived. I went to a new School, I hung out with the
wrong people, and on the third day or my second week I got suspended and I didn't care at all. I just
wanted to go home. I ended up going to a Continuation school. Some students I would hang out
with would talk to me about how they messed up and it's hard for them now that they want to
graduate knowing I was going to soon be in there shoes. I still didn't care till later. I was where they
are in their shoes. It didn't hit me till I got notified at school that I was going to have to go to court. I
didn't want to put my Dad through it. My friends Mom knew what was going on because her
Daughter was the same so she recommended us this program. I was interested so I decided to join

Personal Narrative: My Journey To Job Corps
For my skills writing I am going to write about my journey to Job Corps. The elementary school I
attended was Daniel A. Payne elementary and my middle school I attended was Kelly miller middle
school. My high school I attended was H.D Woodson and I never completed the ninth grade because
my mom had recommended Job Corps to me because of problems I had in school.
I had good grades when I was in school but when I went to high school I had got into too many
fights. I left in the ninth grade and when I did that I waited until I was 16 then I applied to Potomac
job corps center. When I was at Potomac I had a rocky start but my grades got better and I was
trying to get my GED. The trade I was in was brick masonry and I liked it a lot, it was fun ... Show

While I was in carpentry I began to like it and I was also doing better in GED classes. I also had did
the GED text and passed everything on it except for the math by ten points and it frustrated me.
Unfortunately I was terminated for AWOLS and I started to work for a moving company and I did
that for about a year. I was also making some decent cash so I was happy with it but after a while I
got tired of it. I started to search for other jobs and I had multiple interviews but I could never get
hired because I didn't have my GED or high school diploma.
After speaking to my mother about my situation she recommended that I should try going back to
job corps and get my high school diploma. I had agreed with my mom's suggestion and I applied to
go to Woodland Job Corps center and about a month later I came here. To be honest when I first got
here I didn't like it at all but after a while I began to like it here. So far I am doing pretty well in the
carpentry trade and high school diploma class. I tabed out of the reading test and I have a high score
on my math tabe. So far I haven't gotten one write–up and I have been staying out of

Before I got to this training center, I attended two high schools– Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD and Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, MD. I started Bladensburg as a freshman in the fall of 2013, but later I transferred in the fall of 2014 to Henry A. Wise. I dropped out of high school in 2015, but I do not remember the exact date. I decided to go to Job Corps instead to get a high school diploma and learn a trade since a friend spoke to me about the program. I started Bladensburg as a freshman in the fall of 2013. My mind got tired and I did not feel like making the effort so I left school. My parents encouraged me to enroll somewhere else to get an education. Once I was out of school, I spent my time constantly thinking about things to do. Whether it was watching television or talking on the phone with a friend. I would sometimes Google new information on different subjects I took interest in for what felt like hours. Discovering new kinds of music was another thing I found interesting. I always looked forward to hanging out with friends whenever I got the chance to. One of the other main things I looked forward to doing was to skateboarding. I did not mind skating most of the time because it was fun. With practice, I became a really skilled skater; I could do high flips and quick turns on the board. I do not really have that much fun unless I really enjoy doing something. It was a lot of fun, but after a few months of being home getting a high school diploma became important. I wanted to learn a trade to be able to get a job as well. Finally, I took my friend's suggestion and enrolled in Job Corps to complete my education. • 7. Analysis Of The Other Wes Moore There's a theory where any given person has infinite paths of life. For every action there is a new path, and the paths keep dividing and extending, each one having new sets of outcomes and opportunities for the person to encounter. The book The Other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore, is a philosophically interesting book as it talks about these paths. Two boys named Wes Moore grew up in similar situations, yet their actions led to them going on two different paths, leading to two completely different lives. The book gives some insight into how these two Wes' actions as youth led them on their paths. One theme occurring in the text was chances, and specifically second chances, which shaped Wes and Wes throughout their youth. While both Wes' got their first and second chances, they each treated them differently. Thesis: How each Wes viewed their second chances changed the outcome of the situation. XXX Wes Moore, the author of the book, decided to take his second chance and fully use it by changing his attitude and motives. Wes had just tried to escape from his army camp for the second time and failed. He went to see the Cadet Captain, whose way of getting respect was something new to him. Wes writes: "In spite of myself, I was impressed. I had never seen anything like that before. I had never seen a man, a peer, demand that much respect from his people. I had seen Shea demand respect in the neighborhood, but this was different. This was real respect, the kind you can't beat out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Personal Narrative: A Day At Old Dominion Job Corp Center The day I left home to come to Old Dominion Job Corp Center on July 21, 2015, was a very memorable day in my life. My step–dad drove me to Richmond, VA to catch the Greyhound bus to the Lynchburg bus station. We departed at 11 o'clock in the morning from Richmond. I was scared and happy at the same time before I left. My mom packed me so much stuff that we had to pay for the extra bag I carried. On the bus, it was slam packed with people from all over the U.S.A. The first hour or so I couldn't stop crying, I was just lost in too many thoughts. But it got better after the first two hours, after that I was very content with my decision to go. The bus had free Wi–Fi so most of the time I was on Facebook, Instagram, listening to music or either sleeping. Around 4pm we finally arrived at Old Dominion Job Corps center. • 13. Stimulating Patriotism and Promoting Economic Prosperity... World War II was of great importance to the United States of America. Women also had an important role in this war. The war effort stimulated patriotism and promoted economic prosperity. American industry quickly transformed to war production in order to contribute to the nation's military necessities. When the men left to fight in war, women were left with the men's duties back on the home front. During World War II, approximately 350,000 women served in the U.S. on the home front and overseas. The working industry instituted a campaign urging women to do their part to meet wartime manufacturing quotas. It wasn't common for women at this time to work outside the home, but this war needed every helping hand possible, woman or man. World War II brought about the new trend of women earning their own money for themselves instead of always having to rely on their husband's money. This gave a sense of independence to women of this era. Besides working on the home front, some women also volunteered for war service and join a various amount of women's branches in the armed forces; such as the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, which eventually became the Women's Army Corp (WAC). The Women's Army Corps was the first time women were given a full military rank. Women pilots also came about, these women were in an organization called Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASP). The government defines poverty as the bottom fifteen percent of annual income. No matter what one does to increase a person's income there will always be someone in poverty. Across America there are always charities, religious groups, and civic clubs who are giving to the poor––from food giveaways, clothing giveaways, free tutoring, free health screenings, whatever else there is constantly something for the poor to benefit from. The problem is that people want to help, but if they are constantly giving the needy these items, services, or money, then are the poor becoming dependent? When will one person stop ... Right now in America, the poor are not being taught "how to fish" instead they are relying on charities to give away food and clothing for them to survive. Through work readiness programs and a reform in food and clothing distribution, charities can cut the parasite of the dependent poor and prepare them to go out and earn what they need. Job preparation programs are an excellent way to minister the poor and needy by preparing them for the future and empowering them to be able to take care of themselves. Curious, Wes Moore decided to research this man's past only to find out that they had grown in similar neighborhoods and with identical backgrounds (both lacking a father figure). Except, their fates were entirely different and in each story a turning point occurred that ushered greatness for one but desolation for the other. Not that his stay there was a walk in the park, but more because he was kept away from the turbulent lifestyle that was embraced in his neighborhood in the Bronx and submerged into a life of enforced self–responsibility and leadership at a young age. In the epilogue of The Other Wes Moore, Wes Moore states: ...I've become convinced that there are some clear and powerful measures that can be taken during this crucial time in a young person's life. Some of the ones that helped me come to mind, from finding strong mentors to being entrusted with responsibilities that forced me to get serious about my behavior. Most of the responsibilities Wes Moore was entrusted with began at his study in the military school. On the other hand, the other Wes Moore's responsibilities were a product of bad influence and polyamory. In my opinion, I agree with Wes Moore the authors' statement; there were several times throughout the lives of both the successful Wes Moore and the other Wes Moore that went to prison could have impacted either one of them to go down the opposite path that they originally took. The reasoning as to why I believe the other Wes Moore could have went down a path to success is if the other Wes Moore had the same family support as the author Wes Moore and if his brother who had a big influence on Wes, was not involved in the drug game. While both Wes Moore's are both fatherless, the author Wes Moore was a lot luckier than the other Wes Moore, because he had his grandparents to help raise him. • 32. The Roles Of Wasps During The World War II By the fall of 1944, half of the ferrying division's fighter pilots were women. WASPs made three– quarters of the domestic deliveries of all domestic deliveries of fast fighters. Another job WASPs had was flying target planes. This job may have been the most dangerous one of them all. WASPs flew the planes back and forth with a target trailing twenty–five feet behind them, as antiaircraft crews shot at them. During these tests, two WASPs lost their lives. Although they never had to see the firefights from overseas, they had a taste of their own firepower. Even though two of their own died, WASPs had an accident percent of nine percent as opposed to the male percentage of eleven. Even after all their hard work, the women pilots were never part of any military branch. The women were never part of the armed forces, and their only benefit was the pay they received. In 1944, they almost became militarized; however the air war was simmering down and recently trained male pilots were in need of assignments. WASPs retained their domestic duties, while 36,000 male pilots joined the infantry in the War Service Training program. Director Cochran officially disbanded the WASP program in the same year. With a yet another big war in full swing, women had their own branches of the armed forces. American people, both men and women, signed up for the armed forces by hundreds of thousands. The first and largest division was the Women's Army Corps (WAC). Approximately 140,000 women had a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As we stand here today on what can only be described as the edge of our future, it becomes very apparent that it's not a distant reality anymore. It begins here. It begins today. We began this journey as scared little kids, each with the same goal; to get to this stage. What we've learned along the way will serve us as we move on into our futures. Within the first two days of being in this program I felt entirely different about coming to school. For once I was excited to get up and make some progress. The program has helped me a lot with narrowing down what I want to do in my future and has helped me map out how to get there. A part of the program, as well as a requirement for us to graduate, is a portfolio. Which is essentially a binder of assignments that prepare us for jobs and future educational decisions. Seems nice right? Yeah, no. I'm lookin at you, Donna. In all reality though, as much as I complained about this portfolio, and let me tell you, I complained more than my fair share, it really did help me when it came to researching colleges and creating a resume. The teachers, however, are the highlight of this program. I've never in my entire schooling career connected with teachers as much as I did with the three marvelous individuals that tried their best to keep us on track this year. Sherry especially, or as a lot of us in the program called her, feelings, helped me the most throughout my year here. • 36. The Other Wes Moore Analysis Impacts On A Life "If [others] expect us to graduate, we will graduate. If they expect us to get a job, we will get a job. If they expect us us to go to jail, then that's where we will end up too" (Moore 127). In Wes Moore's book The Other Wes Moore expectations from our role models impact everything including our jobs. Two kids named Wes moore, similar in age grow up just blocks from each other, with difficult childhoods including run ins with the police and hanging with their crew. One becomes a Rhodes scholar, decorated veteran and business leader, and the other ends up a convicted murderer serving a life sentence in prison. Their stories could have been switched with so many similarities in their life but the slight differences changing their paths. Similarities and differences pertaining to role models and jobs of both Moores were described in The Other Wes Moore. Both the author Wes and the "other" Wes have role models in their life that affect their choices. Unfortunately one of the Wes's role model was not a positive figure in his life. In the beginning of the book the "other" Wes describes his daily life. His mother, which was his only parent was very absent from his life. She was a single working parent who was rarely home during the day. Wes tells tony, "[She] was usually out of the house by 8:30 and didn't come back until well into the evening. Wes, now eight years old, was free from any adult supervision until then" (Moore 26). Without a role model or even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
