Jesuit missionaries lived among native populations to convert them to Christianity and administer to believers. When a sufficient number of natives converted, the Jesuits would build missions. Through meticulous reporting including maps, journals, and accounts of native languages, cultures, territories, and governments, the Jesuits provided invaluable information about indigenous peoples in the colonies.
