Jack The Ripper Facts
Jack the Ripper: Identified After five related prostitute murders in the East End of London in 1888,
many theories and conspiracies arose about who the murderer could be. Many suspects were thrown
around, but nobody was ever convicted. While there was an extensive investigation, the case was
eventually closed. The ending to the story was left to each newspaper and media outlet, all writing
their own version of the mysterious "Jack the Ripper" legend. Although there was proof to verify
and negate many names thrown into the large pool of suspects, it is clear that there is one person
who can be pinned to these killings. Based on a significant amount of evidence, it is clear that Jack
the Ripper can be identified as Aaron Kosminski. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suffering from mental illness, he later spending years in an insane asylum (Jack the Ripper). It is
known that the top officials working on the case put Kosminski high on their list of suspects. Sir
Robert Anderson wrote in his memoirs titled "The Lighter Side of My Official Life",
"...undiscovered murders are rare in London, and the "Jack–the–Ripper" crimes are not in that
category...I will merely add that the only person who had ever had a good view of the murderer
unhesitatingly identified the suspect the instant he was confronted with him; but he refused to give
evidence against him...In saying that he was a Polish Jew I am merely stating a definitely
ascertained fact..(Jack the Ripper)" Kosminski being a Polish–Jew clearly proves Anderson is

Summary Of The Complete Jack The Ripper By Donald Rumbelow
The book I have chosen is The Complete Jack the Ripper by Donald Rumbelow. The book was
published by Penguin Adult in 2004 with 400 pages. Probably the most famous murderer of all time,
Jack the Ripper has fascinated the public for over 120 years. The book is about the many theories of
the murders of a group of prostitutes. Rumbelow set all the information in the right historical time.
The Complete Jack the Ripper book is set in 1888 when a man or woman nobody knows brutally
murdered a group of east end prostitutes. They left the bodies bleeding in the streets of London,
England. The book points out many theories and people that were suspects in the murders. I think
the book is quite successful because the book has many great points. I like ... Show more content on

Donald Rumbelow is a former London Metropolitan policeman I agree with Rumbelows arguments
and conclusions. At first, I could not get myself interested in the book but as I went along I got very
interested. I found the book to be full of detail. I love how he mentions almost all of the suspects put
forth over the years. I actually really enjoyed the book, I think the book does a great job of teaching
about jack the rippers story the author mentions a lot of myths and explains why they are wrong. I
would recommend this book to others because unlike many other books it doesn't force what the
author thinks it lets the reader make up their own mind and freely have their own opinion. The book
is also very worth reading if you like history or mysteries.
In conclusion The Complete Jack the Ripper is a truly good book. The book thoroughly tells you
about all of the suspects and why they were considered as a suspect. Also this book is very
informative and worth taking the time to read and pay attention to. Rumbelow also examines the
horrifying parallel crimes of the Dusseldorf Ripper and the Yorkshire Ripper in an attempt to throw
further light on the atrocities of Victorian London (https://www.waterstones.com/book/complete–

Summary: Once Upon A Shop By Jeanette Winterson
"Once Upon a Shop" is an essay written by British writer Jeanette Winterson, and was published in
the British newspaper "The Observer" in June 2010. The essay is about Jeanette Winterson's
experiences with her small vegetable shop in London, and how important she feel small shops is to
local communities, why we should support small shops and how big companies and materialism
affects our society. Winterson also believes that we should value price less and instead focus on
quality instead. She writes that she believes the government should make it easier to run a small
shop, and criticizes supermarkets, as she believes a lot of what goes into making the cheap
supermarket food is unethical.

The essay starts with the sentence, "I opened my first fruit and veg shop in Spitalfields in 1805... At
least that is how it feels to me[...]" which shows how important she thinks the history of her shop is,
and how she believes that we should preserve some of the old traditions in the field of shops. The
history also serves as a form of timeline, to make the readers see how the neighborhood have
changed through the years, from vegetables shops and flower markets, to "chic shops and funky
stalls". She also mentions how fruits and vegetables have changed through the years as she mentions
the "[...]the pyramids of oranges, gassed lemons, King Kong–size bananas[...]" she sees at the new

Jack The Ripper Legacy Essay
Jack the Ripper was a legacy of sorts, he killed at least 5 women without being caught in his
lifetime. His murders were so famous that people today still make theories of who he was and why
he did it. We may not know who he is, but we do know what he did and what he left behind. Jack
the Ripper tortured and killed women, led a life of mystery, and still gets credit for it today.
In London on August 31 through November 9, 1888 five prostitutes were murdered. These murders
were done at the hand of Jack the Ripper, the very well–known, unknown, murderer in Whitechapel.
The press attributed around 11 murders to Jack, but only five were for sure done by him. The
women he killed were: Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine ... Show

Many people were accused, but no one has actually uncovered his true identity. His original
nickname, before "Jack the Ripper", was the Whitechapel Murderer (Jack the Ripper). The Ripper
was thought to be a doctor or a butcher because of his choice of weapons and the way he killed his
victims. Dr. William Withey Gull was pinned for the murders, but at the time was at a ripe age of 71
and in poor health, so he obviously was not the killer (10 Things You Probably Don't Know About
Jack the Ripper). A man named Thomas Cutbush was a suspect because he had stabbed women in
the buttocks, but had never actually killed anyone (10 Things You Don't Know About Jack the
Ripper). Then, of all people, the prince was accused of the murderous actions, when he was not even
in London at the time of the attacks (10 Things You Probably Don't Know About Jack the Ripper).
In 1993, a new suspect rose and it was an American doctor named Francis Tumblety, but he was
only visiting Whitechapel for a short amount of time (10 Things You Probably Don't Know About
Jack the Ripper). 126 years later, DNA found on a piece of clothing from one of the victims
supposedly proves that Aaron Kosminski, a Polish immigrant, was Jack the

Jack the ripper? Or jill the ripper?
Inspector Abberline who was on the jack the ripper case, thought that it was a woman who had done
it the entire time. The theory started after one of the murders of a woman named Mary Kelly. Mary
Kelly was murdered between the hours of 2 and 3 in the morning. Yet Caroline Maxwell had
claimed to see her twice that morning after the time she was said to have passed. She claimed to
have seen Mary Kelly at around 8am looking sick. And again around an hour later talking to some
man outside the pub house. It would be very easy for a midwife to pull of being jack the ripper. It
was not unusual for a midwife to be walking around all hours of the night, let alone have blood on
her clothes because people would have just thought it was from her working. And she could walk in
broad daylight with no one questioning her because everyone was looking for a man. And not a
woman.
Mary Pearcey – the only woman suspect at the time
Here is some of the background on Mary Pearcey and to why they picked her as a suspect at the
time of the killings.
Mary lived next door to her neighbors Phoebe and her husband. Well it turns out that Phoebe's
husband is having an affair with Mary. One day Mary invited Phoebe over for tea at around 4pm.
When Phoebe's husband was at home he heard the sound of breaking glass coming from Mary's

Aaron Kosminski A.K.A Jack the Ripper
The Jack the Ripper case was never actually solved, so who committed the murders.
Even though That Aaron Kosminski is said to be innocent, Aaron Kosminski was Jack the Ripper
because his DNA was found on one of the victims clothes and their was a message on the wall
claiming the man who killed the girls was Jewish and Aaron is Jewish.
The Jack the Ripper murders occurred in London in 1888, although the Murderer was only a threat
to a very small section of the Country in a relatively small part of London. The murders had a huge
impact on society as a whole. There were five women killed by Jack the Ripper, whose identity is
still unknown to this day.
In his new book, Naming Jack the Ripper, Edwards claims that the notorious 19th century killer was
Aaron Kosminski, a Polish immigrant. Edwards said he gathered genetic evidence linking
Kosminski to the scene of one of the murders. Others point out the case isn't exactly definite and
absolutely solved. The evidence hinges on a 126–year–old scarf, supposedly recovered from the
scene of the victim Catherine Eddowes. One of the policemen on duty that night took the scarf home
as a gift for his wife, she was horrified by the blood–stained clothing, so she stuck it in a box and it

August 31, 1888 the first victim of the murderer called "Jack the Ripper" was discovered in London.
The name was picked up from a letter that was sent to the local newspapers of London. The letter
was uninterruptedly reported to the police, and from then onward he was addressed as Jack the
Ripper. It stated that the person writing the letter frowned upon prostitutes and whores, and that he
had no problem in ripping apart their bodies. It leaves room to investigate and question, the

Jack The Ripper Identity
In the dark early morning hours on the streets of London's East End between the months of August
and November in 1888, a deranged and depraved person would roam the streets to murder at least
five women participating in prostitution in the Whitechapel district. On November 9, 1888, fate
would have Mary Jane Kelly brutally attacked at her place of residence and subsequently murdered
and mutilated beyond imagination. The most likely suspect was the increasingly bloodthirsty and
still anonymous killer dubbed Jack the Ripper. Nearly 130 years later, forensic science and
criminology experts have failed to agree on the true identity of Jack the Ripper. Hopefully, through
psychological, geographical and genetic profiling, a better perspective of who

Jack the Ripper Serial Killer
The history of Jack the Ripper is mysterious. The main reason why is because nobody could or can
find out who Jack the Ripper really was. He was a figure that came out from the shadows for only a
couple of months, brutally murdered 5 women and then disappeared never to be seen again. All
anyone oils tell about Jack was that this figure had to have known about the human anatomy to
make these murders so brutal and give everyone the idea that this person had a severe hatred for
other people.
First we should go over the community in which these gruesome murders took place. ''Twas the year

death looked nothing like Jack's gruesome mutilated bodies killing.
More people thought felt the need to keep Jack the Ripper alive so one person decided to have their
own gruesome way of leaving a body. The Pinchin Street Torso, named for the only thing left of the

Jack the Ripper : Opposing Viewpoints

Jack the Ripper was best known as a serial killer that was never identified. His amazing surgical cuts
gave him the name "Jack the Ripper". Most of his murders happened in the Whitechapel district of
London. Though only five people were killed by his hands, others were believed to be his victims.
Thanks to newspaper reportage on the case, coupled with the records and musings of philanthropists
and reformers who wished to bring the plight of the east end's poor to the attention of the wider
Victorian Society.

On September 30, 1888 the murders of the third and fourth victims were committed. Elizabeth
Stride was murder on Berners' Street. Her throat cut, but there was no mutilation. She was found
around 1:00 am by Louis Diemschutz. Ten minutes later and three quarter of a mile away, Catherine
Eddowes, the fourth victim, was found at Mitre Sqaure. Her throat had been cut, her face mutilated
beyond recognition, her right ear lobe nearly severed, a portion of her nose had been cut off, her face
slashed, and one kidney had been removed. On October 15th, George Lusk received a horrific
package which included a letter addressed to him and a portion of a kidney. The letter stated it was
half of the kidney he took from one of the women.
On November 9th, 1888, the last believed victim of Jack the Ripper was Mary Jane Keller. She was
murdered in her room at Miller's Court. Her throat had been cut and her body had been mutilated
more severely than all his other victims. Skin had also been removed from her legs.
The original police reports of the Whitechapel murders are in envelopes marked "Victims",

Mary Ann Nichols had been slashed, and her abdomen ripped entirely open. Because of the absence
of abdominal mutilations, there has been some doubt as to whether or not Stride was in fact killed

On August 31, 1888, the first of a long string of horrid, mutilating, and disfiguring murders began.
The perpetrator of these murders was only ever known by one name, Jack the Ripper. Jack the
Ripper became infamous in the streets of London; the thought of the name alone instilled terror into
every woman who was out after sundown. The Ripper's identity was, however, never discovered; the
police could never pin the crimes on one person in particular, even though there were over 100

(Jones) It had been rare that a case such as the White Chapel Murders was in the news at all, mainly
because crimes of this nature were fairly common during this time. Many ladies of the night were
regularly assaulted violently, this made finding suspects that fit the crimes even harder for police,
upwards of 100 suspects were interrogated about the crimes. Alas, Jack was never caught, but those
with an eye for mystery still investigate the murders today. One of the popular theories conceived is
that William Henry Bury, a man who murdered his wife and did not report it for a few days,
committed the murders. It had been theorized that he was actually using that time to burn the
evidence, which included letters and documents Jack would hand write to the police, of being Jack
the Ripper, he also had the words, "Jack the Ripper is at the back of this door", and "Jack the Ripper
is in this seller." (Jack the Ripper Suspects) However, these could have just been public graffiti.
Another suspect was Montague John Druitt, a man who committed suicide soon after the body of
Mary Jane Kelly was found. The largest argument on Druitt being the murderer is his timely suicide
and that he has mental illness that runs in his family, and that he was recently laid off work. Druitt
may have also been a suspect for being publicly homosexual, which is no crime today, in the 1800's,
however, it was reason to suspect that person of being a murderer, thief, or

The Name of the Star
In the book, The Name of the Star, a teenage girl named Aurora, but goes by Rory, is moving to
London to go to a boarding school. Rory's parents are both a philosopher in college. London has the

He used to go around London and kill people in creative ways. Well that was all in the 19th century.
Now, there's someone now going around and pretending to be the present Jack the Ripper. He killed

could see him. People under the age of eighteen who have had near–death experiences develop the
ability to have the sight. The sight is when you can see people after they died. So they can basically
see ghosts. The Ripper was a ghost. A ghost who can frantically go around and kill people. He can't
be seen on the CCTV cameras, so the only people who can see him is the people who have the sight.
He soon realized that Rory can see him and he goes after her, making her his next target. Rory has

History Of The Ripper's Victimatology
The list of the Ripper's victimology is rather interesting. It consisted of women on London's lowest
level of hierarchy with their deaths only affecting friends and family (Begg, Paul, Evans 1). A
multitude of the victims were in ill condition, e.g from sexually transmitted diseases or an unhealthy
addiction to alcohol. They roamed the night looking for buying customers, unaware of their
untimely fate with a serial killer (Rubinstein 1). The East End was overcrowded with waste littering
the roads and the only way to earn a decent wage through illegal means (Johnson 1). However,
poverty was glaringly different between the genders. Usually, employed women worked in factories

would follow the women home, rape them, slash their throats, and then mutilate their sexual organs.
The sixth victim was found with her breasts, hands, and ears cut off. It was the resemblance between
the savage destruction of the Baiyin victims' bodies and those of the women killed by London's
infamous Jack the Ripper that led the police to nickname their killer the Chinese Jack the Ripper.
Baiyin police were at a loss as to who raped, killed, and mutilated the local women. They collected
enough fingerprints and semen from the crime scenes to tie the 11 murders together, but they could
not match the DNA evidence to anyone registered as living in Baiyin. And that is exactly how Gao
managed to stay free for 28 years. Gao was registered in Qingcheng and never registered himself in
Baiyin. In 2004, the authorities offered a 200,000 yuan reward ($30,000) for information leading to
the arrest of the killer. Despite the generous offer, no leads ever materialized, and the case went

"I'm not a butcher, I'm not a Yid, Nor yet a foreign skipper, But I'm your own light–hearted friend,
Yours truly Jack the Ripper" (Rumbelow 276) This is the final letter from Jack the Ripper. He is one
of the most famous (or infamous) criminals in history being one of the few people to escape capture
of the police and never be discovered. Many have theorized about his whereabouts, his identity, and
why he did what he did, but no one has proved the exact details of who is Jack the Ripper.
Throughout the centuries there have been some kind of crime whether it be petty theft or serial
killings. Jack the Ripper is the most prominent and there are several mysteries and theories
surrounding what exactly happened to him and his identity.

One recent theory is that Jack the Ripper is actually two men working as one. "He believes that there
were, in fact, two perpetrators (both men), thus accounting for the apparent ease with which the
murders took place; for instance, the unfinished desecration of the third victim, Elizabeth Stride,
suggests that the killing was disturbed, a warning being given by an accomplice." ("Jack the Ripper"
722) These two men were lovers who help each other get away when the cops were getting close.
This shows that there was a dominant killer and a submissive accomplice. The dominant would do
the killing and writing while the accomplice would help him by keeping the police off his trail or
warning him when the police were close. Another theory about Jack the Ripper is about a man
named James Maybrick. Maybrick's family, generations after, gave investigators a diary that James
wrote giving detailed descriptions of the killings, and described his itch for cannibalism. This is an
event that threw investigators for a loop seeing as there was a book describing everything that
happened in that time that no one knew about for a long time. Whether or not this diary was real or
forged to make their name into something famous, this caused every person who was working on
that case, whether it was a regular citizen who is interested in solving the Jack the Ripper case or a
news reporter who was working on a story, was given a new perspective to work on. "The discovery
of an unknown 'Diary of Jack the Ripper', quickly marketed by mainstream publishers 104 years
after the crimes, rightly gave rise to the deepest suspicions. It was denounced as a crude forgery,
dating from a year or two before it was made public." (Rubenstein

First of all the reason why there were so many prostitutes in England at that time was because, in the
Victorian London many people were poor. Lots of them could not even afford a room to live in,
because of that several women had to go into prostitution. Not because they wanted to, just because
they had to. Back to the question, why did he only kill female prostitutes? What most people believe
is that he only killed female prostitutes because; he hated women and thought they were worthless.
He was also very against prostitution. Therefore, he created a lot of fear, especially among the
prostitutes.
Jack the ripper had his own special way of killing his victims; first of all, he only killed at certain
times of the day. Which were only on weekends and early mornings. That indicates that he was
awake late nights and that he probably had regular employment at weekdays, so that is the reason
why he killed only on weekends. So for all we know he could have been a great doctor, which no
one suspected to do such things.
Jack had a specific way of killing; he sliced the victims open and removed some of the organs. He
also tried to take away the identity of the women. He distorted their faces, this he probably did
because of the hatred he had against women.

History Of Jack The Ripper
Who is Jack the Ripper?
From August 1888 to November of the same year, the Whitechapel area of London was under attack
by an unknown assailant. He terrorized the district, as well as surrounding areas, by killing and
mutilating prostitutes all within a mile of each other (Biography.com Editors, 2015). During that
time, violence towards prostitutes was not unusual, but the way the bodies were attacked and
dismembered lead officials to believe the killings were acted out by a single offender
(Biography.com Editors, 2015).
It can be construed; the Ripper killings suggested a sociopathic tendency with a deep hatred of
women. Not only did he kill them by slicing their throats, but he also dismembered and mutilated

In today's day in age, we are provided with many new advances that allow us to identify criminals.
Using fingerprint analysis and DNA, we can streamline the identification process and allow the
perpetrators to be named. With all the dismemberment Jack the Ripper participated in amongst his
victims it is likely he injured himself in the process. Not only could his DNA have been at the crime
scene, but trace evidence from his hair or clothing fibers could have also been there. At that time,
when technology was sparse, they were unaware of the possibilities that awaited their future
generation. However, as time passed and advances were made, it can be concluded that with urban

The Murders of Jack the Ripper
Life was hard for people in London, England during the 1800's. Many adults, teens and children had
to work in horrible condition just to survive. It's sad to say, but many women turned to prostitution
to earn money. Little did they know, this could be the most life threatening decision at this time for
Jack the Ripper had come out to play.
Between 1888 and 1891, a total of 11 women, all of them in the profession of prostitution, were
murdered in the Whitechapel district located in the east end of London. These murders were
especially gruesome in the way each woman was killed. Although there were 11 murders, only five
shared similar details, leading investigators to believe the other six either aren't connected at all to
Jack or were copycats of his work.

They state that it is safe to assume, according to current findings in psychology, that Jack would
have been a disorganized, paranoid killer, who would have been a white male in his late 20s to early
30s. Due to the precision of his attacks, he most likely had a job that caused him to understand the
human body, possible a mortician, doctor or butcher. He was most likely raised in a household with
an absent father and a dominant mother who may also have been involved in prostitution, causing
his hatred for them. He was also probably neither married nor involved in any committed
relationship, the majority of his association with women having most likely been with the
prostitutes. According to a book entitled Naming Jack the Ripper the author claims to have

Jack the Ripper is an unknown serial killer of at least five women, all prostitutes. For no apparent
reason, they were brutally butchered and cut into pieces and mailed to the police along with letters
taunting them. They were all killed on the street while trying to get a customer. Every victim died
from a throat cut. The way the bodies were mutilated would prove that the murderer had knowledge
of human anatomy. The victims of the murders were Mary Ann Nichols (found August 31), Annie
Chapman (found September 8), Elizabeth Stride (found September 30), Catherine Eddows (found
September 30), and Mary Jane Kelly (found November 9). Every killing except one was while the

reports proved inconclusive. In Richard Jones website Jack the Ripper – 1888, he also provides a

Why Did Jack The Ripper Happen
Jack the Ripper is a famous serial killer during the early 19th century of London. Jack the Ripper is
an interesting topic for me because of it's mystery and that most people thought it was a myth. I also
believed that Jack the Ripper truly exists which brings me to have the interest to write this essay.
Therefore, what led Jack the Ripper to kill the various victims he did in early 19th century London?
I believed that Jack the ripper killed his victim due to the corruptness of early 19th century London.
19th century London is a time era where people are starting to rise up on economy. England during
that time had a very important change to it which is the Industrial revolution. London as the main

speculation. He became famous because there was no murder happened in London at all in 1887.
Even his He committed these crimes in 1888 which made people shocked. He picked female
prostitutes as his victims and killed them at night when no one was around. He was also famous
because there were not many clues to lead the police to find the killer. This made suspects ranged
from woman to doctor. The police did a lot of attempts and changes in order to catch Jack the
Ripper. There were multiple letters written between polices to request for operation or changes. Jack
the Ripper was so skilled at creating a crime that James Munro, one of the officer, requested a

a blood hound to sniff out Jack the Ripper. Therefore, Jack the Ripper made blood all over the place,
this made using smell to find the murderer very hard because the dog may identify the incorrect

violence and trauma in his past childhood and his job.

was able to have gotten out of the scene unnoticed and cleaned up any evidence of him being there

"MASKED KILLER ON THE LOOSE" is what every Newspaper headline read in 1888 in London.
Jack The Ripper was Aaron Kosminski and to back this up I have circumstantial, testimonial, and
forensic evidence.
The background of Jack is that he was an unnamed murderer who viciously murdered prostitutes in
whitechapel, london. He also sent notes to journalists and news organizations to almost tease the
police into finding him, which they never did. The names of the victims were Catherine Eddowes,
Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, and Mary Jane Kelly.
There is testimonial evidence pointing towards Aaron Kosminski as being Jack The Ripper. There
were many suspects but at the time of the murders, however, the two main officers believed it was

was insane. When he was taken away to the mental asylum the killings stopped. Since when he was

out of the picture, the killings stopped.
There is forensic evidence to prove that he is Jack The Ripper. Jari Louhelainen a microbiologist

Mary Jane Kelly is regarded as Jack The Ripper's 'swan song' Of sorts because it was not only
highly irregular from the killers previous attacks, but because after this attack he just disappeared.
after this dreadfull night, november 9th 1888, Jack The Ripper would cease to exist. In apt. 13,
Millers court is where the victim had been staying recentlty, not long ago having moved away from
joseph barnet, the man she had lived with for some time (casebook). The poor woman was found on
Friday morning around 11 am, the murder itself most likely having taken place the previous night.
Upon entering her apartment the worst became obvious, she was dead. However dead is putting it
lightly, she was butchered beyond human recognition, her face mutilated, stabbed, slashed, and torn
untill there was just muscle and blood that visible to the human eye. As you pan down her body the
scene did not get better, she was missing almost all of her internal organs, they had been visciously
cut out and thrown across the room in a haphazard, desperat fashion, she had been butchered. At the
time of death she had been a 25 year old prostitute in east end england, so simillarly to all of the
other woman. But now the images of these horid murderes have burned into the fabric of history and

Jack The Ripper Facts

  • 1. Jack The Ripper Facts Jack the Ripper: Identified After five related prostitute murders in the East End of London in 1888, many theories and conspiracies arose about who the murderer could be. Many suspects were thrown around, but nobody was ever convicted. While there was an extensive investigation, the case was eventually closed. The ending to the story was left to each newspaper and media outlet, all writing their own version of the mysterious "Jack the Ripper" legend. Although there was proof to verify and negate many names thrown into the large pool of suspects, it is clear that there is one person who can be pinned to these killings. Based on a significant amount of evidence, it is clear that Jack the Ripper can be identified as Aaron Kosminski. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suffering from mental illness, he later spending years in an insane asylum (Jack the Ripper). It is known that the top officials working on the case put Kosminski high on their list of suspects. Sir Robert Anderson wrote in his memoirs titled "The Lighter Side of My Official Life", "...undiscovered murders are rare in London, and the "Jack–the–Ripper" crimes are not in that category...I will merely add that the only person who had ever had a good view of the murderer unhesitatingly identified the suspect the instant he was confronted with him; but he refused to give evidence against him...In saying that he was a Polish Jew I am merely stating a definitely ascertained fact..(Jack the Ripper)" Kosminski being a Polish–Jew clearly proves Anderson is writing about him, and they knew he was the ... • 5. Summary Of The Complete Jack The Ripper By Donald Rumbelow The book I have chosen is The Complete Jack the Ripper by Donald Rumbelow. The book was published by Penguin Adult in 2004 with 400 pages. Probably the most famous murderer of all time, Jack the Ripper has fascinated the public for over 120 years. The book is about the many theories of the murders of a group of prostitutes. Rumbelow set all the information in the right historical time. The Complete Jack the Ripper book is set in 1888 when a man or woman nobody knows brutally murdered a group of east end prostitutes. They left the bodies bleeding in the streets of London, England. The book points out many theories and people that were suspects in the murders. I think the book is quite successful because the book has many great points. I like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Donald Rumbelow is a former London Metropolitan policeman I agree with Rumbelows arguments and conclusions. At first, I could not get myself interested in the book but as I went along I got very interested. I found the book to be full of detail. I love how he mentions almost all of the suspects put forth over the years. I actually really enjoyed the book, I think the book does a great job of teaching about jack the rippers story the author mentions a lot of myths and explains why they are wrong. I would recommend this book to others because unlike many other books it doesn't force what the author thinks it lets the reader make up their own mind and freely have their own opinion. The book is also very worth reading if you like history or mysteries. In conclusion The Complete Jack the Ripper is a truly good book. The book thoroughly tells you about all of the suspects and why they were considered as a suspect. Also this book is very informative and worth taking the time to read and pay attention to. Rumbelow also examines the horrifying parallel crimes of the Dusseldorf Ripper and the Yorkshire Ripper in an attempt to throw further light on the atrocities of Victorian London (https://www.waterstones.com/book/complete– jack–the–ripper/donald–rumbelow/9780753541500). this book really made ... • 9. Summary: Once Upon A Shop By Jeanette Winterson "Once Upon a Shop" is an essay written by British writer Jeanette Winterson, and was published in the British newspaper "The Observer" in June 2010. The essay is about Jeanette Winterson's experiences with her small vegetable shop in London, and how important she feel small shops is to local communities, why we should support small shops and how big companies and materialism affects our society. Winterson also believes that we should value price less and instead focus on quality instead. She writes that she believes the government should make it easier to run a small shop, and criticizes supermarkets, as she believes a lot of what goes into making the cheap supermarket food is unethical. The sender of the text is Jeanette Winterson and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The essay starts with the sentence, "I opened my first fruit and veg shop in Spitalfields in 1805... The history also serves as a form of timeline, to make the readers see how the neighborhood have changed through the years, from vegetables shops and flower markets, to "chic shops and funky stalls". • 13. Jack The Ripper Legacy Essay Jack the Ripper was a legacy of sorts, he killed at least 5 women without being caught in his lifetime. His murders were so famous that people today still make theories of who he was and why he did it. We may not know who he is, but we do know what he did and what he left behind. Jack the Ripper tortured and killed women, led a life of mystery, and still gets credit for it today. In London on August 31 through November 9, 1888 five prostitutes were murdered. These murders were done at the hand of Jack the Ripper, the very well–known, unknown, murderer in Whitechapel. The press attributed around 11 murders to Jack, but only five were for sure done by him. The women he killed were: Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people were accused, but no one has actually uncovered his true identity. His original nickname, before "Jack the Ripper", was the Whitechapel Murderer (Jack the Ripper). The Ripper was thought to be a doctor or a butcher because of his choice of weapons and the way he killed his victims. Dr. William Withey Gull was pinned for the murders, but at the time was at a ripe age of 71 and in poor health, so he obviously was not the killer (10 Things You Probably Don't Know About Jack the Ripper). A man named Thomas Cutbush was a suspect because he had stabbed women in the buttocks, but had never actually killed anyone (10 Things You Don't Know About Jack the Ripper). Then, of all people, the prince was accused of the murderous actions, when he was not even in London at the time of the attacks (10 Things You Probably Don't Know About Jack the Ripper). In 1993, a new suspect rose and it was an American doctor named Francis Tumblety, but he was only visiting Whitechapel for a short amount of time (10 Things You Probably Don't Know About Jack the Ripper). 126 years later, DNA found on a piece of clothing from one of the victims supposedly proves that Aaron Kosminski, a Polish immigrant, was Jack the ... • 17. Jack The Ripper Case Study Jordyn Neighbors Mr. Ryan English 4 01 February 2018 Jack the ripper? Or jill the ripper? Inspector Abberline who was on the jack the ripper case, thought that it was a woman who had done it the entire time. The theory started after one of the murders of a woman named Mary Kelly. Mary Kelly was murdered between the hours of 2 and 3 in the morning. Yet Caroline Maxwell had claimed to see her twice that morning after the time she was said to have passed. She claimed to have seen Mary Kelly at around 8am looking sick. And again around an hour later talking to some man outside the pub house. It would be very easy for a midwife to pull of being jack the ripper. It was not unusual for a midwife to be walking around all hours of the night, let alone have blood on her clothes because people would have just thought it was from her working. And she could walk in broad daylight with no one questioning her because everyone was looking for a man. And not a woman. Mary Pearcey – the only woman suspect at the time Here is some of the background on Mary Pearcey and to why they picked her as a suspect at the time of the killings. Mary lived next door to her neighbors Phoebe and her husband. Well it turns out that Phoebe's husband is having an affair with Mary. One day Mary invited Phoebe over for tea at around 4pm. When Phoebe's husband was at home he heard the sound of breaking glass coming from Mary's house. He shouted over the fence to see if she was alright but no one ever ... • 21. Jack The Ripper Research Paper Ben Noelken Mrs. Dubitsky English II 22 January, 2016 Aaron Kosminski A.K.A Jack the Ripper The Jack the Ripper case was never actually solved, so who committed the murders. Even though That Aaron Kosminski is said to be innocent, Aaron Kosminski was Jack the Ripper because his DNA was found on one of the victims clothes and their was a message on the wall claiming the man who killed the girls was Jewish and Aaron is Jewish. The Jack the Ripper murders occurred in London in 1888, although the Murderer was only a threat to a very small section of the Country in a relatively small part of London. The murders had a huge impact on society as a whole. There were five women killed by Jack the Ripper, whose identity is still unknown to this day. In his new book, Naming Jack the Ripper, Edwards claims that the notorious 19th century killer was Aaron Kosminski, a Polish immigrant. Edwards said he gathered genetic evidence linking Kosminski to the scene of one of the murders. Others point out the case isn't exactly definite and absolutely solved. The evidence hinges on a 126–year–old scarf, supposedly recovered from the scene of the victim Catherine Eddowes. One of the policemen on duty that night took the scarf home as a gift for his wife, she was horrified by the blood–stained clothing, so she stuck it in a box and it hasn't been ... The name was picked up from a letter that was sent to the local newspapers of London. The letter was uninterruptedly reported to the police, and from then onward he was addressed as Jack the Ripper. It stated that the person writing the letter frowned upon prostitutes and whores, and that he had no problem in ripping apart their bodies. It leaves room to investigate and question, the education system as well as the actions the government had taken in response to Jack the Rippers killing spree In August 1833, Parliament voted sums of money each year for the construction of schools for poor children, the first time the state had become involved ... • 29. Jack The Ripper Identity In the dark early morning hours on the streets of London's East End between the months of August and November in 1888, a deranged and depraved person would roam the streets to murder at least five women participating in prostitution in the Whitechapel district. On November 9, 1888, fate would have Mary Jane Kelly brutally attacked at her place of residence and subsequently murdered and mutilated beyond imagination. The most likely suspect was the increasingly bloodthirsty and still anonymous killer dubbed Jack the Ripper. Nearly 130 years later, forensic science and criminology experts have failed to agree on the true identity of Jack the Ripper. The perpetrator of these murders was only ever known by one name, Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper became infamous in the streets of London; the thought of the name alone instilled terror into every woman who was out after sundown. The Ripper's identity was, however, never discovered; the police could never pin the crimes on one person in particular, even though there were over 100 suspects questioned. (Jones) It had been rare that a case such as the White Chapel Murders was in the news at all, mainly because crimes of this nature were fairly common during this time. Many ladies of the night were regularly assaulted violently, this made finding suspects that fit the crimes even harder for police, upwards of 100 suspects were interrogated about the crimes. Alas, Jack was never caught, but those with an eye for mystery still investigate the murders today. One of the popular theories conceived is that William Henry Bury, a man who murdered his wife and did not report it for a few days, committed the murders. It had been theorized that he was actually using that time to burn the evidence, which included letters and documents Jack would hand write to the police, of being Jack the Ripper, he also had the words, "Jack the Ripper is at the back of this door", and "Jack the Ripper is in this seller." (Jack the Ripper Suspects) However, these could have just been public graffiti. Another suspect was Montague John Druitt, a man who committed suicide soon after the body of Mary Jane Kelly was found. The largest argument on Druitt being the murderer is his timely suicide and that he has mental illness that runs in his family, and that he was recently laid off work. Druitt may have also been a suspect for being publicly homosexual, which is no crime today, in the 1800's, however, it was reason to suspect that person of being a murderer, thief, or ... For more than 28 years, the residents of this city in the Northwestern province of Gansu lived in fear of the serial killer called the Chinese Jack the Ripper. But, that all ended on August 26, 2016, with the arrest of 52 year old Gao Chengyong by the local police. Gao was working in his Baiyin grocery store when he was taken into custody. The killer would follow the women home, rape them, slash their throats, and then mutilate their sexual organs. The sixth victim was found with her breasts, hands, and ears cut off. It was the resemblance between the savage destruction of the Baiyin victims' bodies and those of the women killed by London's infamous Jack the Ripper that led the police to nickname their killer the Chinese Jack the Ripper. One recent theory is that Jack the Ripper is actually two men working as one. "He believes that there were, in fact, two perpetrators (both men), thus accounting for the apparent ease with which the murders took place; for instance, the unfinished desecration of the third victim, Elizabeth Stride, suggests that the killing was disturbed, a warning being given by an accomplice." ("Jack the Ripper" 722) These two men were lovers who help each other get away when the cops were getting close. This shows that there was a dominant killer and a submissive accomplice. The dominant would do the killing and writing while the accomplice would help him by keeping the police off his trail or warning him when the police were close. Another theory about Jack the Ripper is about a man named James Maybrick. Maybrick's family, generations after, gave investigators a diary that James wrote giving detailed descriptions of the killings, and described his itch for cannibalism. This is an event that threw investigators for a loop seeing as there was a book describing everything that happened in that time that no one knew about for a long time. Whether or not this diary was real or forged to make their name into something famous, this caused every person who was working on that case, whether it was a regular citizen who is interested in solving the Jack the Ripper case or a news reporter who was working on a story, was given a new perspective to work on. Lots of them could not even afford a room to live in, because of that several women had to go into prostitution. Not because they wanted to, just because they had to. Back to the question, why did he only kill female prostitutes? What most people believe is that he only killed female prostitutes because; he hated women and thought they were worthless. He was also very against prostitution. Therefore, he created a lot of fear, especially among the prostitutes. Jack the ripper had his own special way of killing his victims; first of all, he only killed at certain times of the day. Which were only on weekends and early mornings. That indicates that he was awake late nights and that he probably had regular employment at weekdays, so that is the reason why he killed only on weekends. • 105. Jack The Ripper Case With the passage of time, the list of possible suspects has grown to nearly a hundred people, with about a dozen serious candidates accused of being Jack the Ripper. It seems that the professionals working on the case back in 1888 were never able to attach enough physical evidence to build a case leading to the arrest of the abhorrent murderer. Along with lack of physical evidence, eyewitness reports proved inconclusive. In Richard Jones website Jack the Ripper – 1888, he also provides a PDF file of the critical and still circulated memorandum written by the Assistant Chief Constable for the CID in 1894 by Sir Melville MacNaghten naming the three prime suspects as Mr. M. J. Druitt, Aaron Kosminski, and Michael Ostrog. (Jones) In later reports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 109. Jack The Ripper Myths This is not a book about Jack the Ripper. That would be an understandable misconception – his name is, after all, in the title, and multiple books claiming to be about the victims or other surrounding topics do indeed end up focusing on the Ripper himself. The Ripper's identity is, after all, one of the great historical mysteries and the focus of over one hundred books. This is not one of them. Although many pages have been devoted to concluding exactly how many women were killed by Jack the Ripper, the most commonly agreed–upon victims make up the so–called canonical five: Mary Ann "Polly" Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth "Liz" Stride, Catherine "Kate" Eddowes, and Mary Jane (or Marie Jeanette) Kelly. • 113. Why Did Jack The Ripper Happen Jack the Ripper is a famous serial killer during the early 19th century of London. Jack the Ripper is an interesting topic for me because of it's mystery and that most people thought it was a myth. I also believed that Jack the Ripper truly exists which brings me to have the interest to write this essay. Therefore, what led Jack the Ripper to kill the various victims he did in early 19th century London? I believed that Jack the ripper killed his victim due to the corruptness of early 19th century London. 19th century London is a time era where people are starting to rise up on economy. England during that time had a very important change to it which is the Industrial revolution. London as the main capital of England had a big profit made from ... Therefore, according to Rubinstein, "Many believe that this postcard was actually written by a journalist, though there is no clear evidence for this." (Rubinstein). Which means the name Jack the Ripper could be a news speculation. He became famous because there was no murder happened in London at all in 1887. Even his He committed these crimes in 1888 which made people shocked. He picked female prostitutes as his victims and killed them at night when no one was around. He was also famous because there were not many clues to lead the police to find the killer. This made suspects ranged from woman to doctor. The police did a lot of attempts and changes in order to catch Jack the Ripper. There were multiple letters written between polices to request for operation or changes. Jack the Ripper was so skilled at creating a crime that James Munro, one of the officer, requested a hundred more uniformed officers and disguised officers to Whitechapel. The officers also tried using a blood hound to sniff out Jack the Ripper. Therefore, Jack the Ripper made blood all over the place, this made using smell to find the murderer very hard because the dog may identify the incorrect smell. • 117. Jack The Ripper Research Paper The Murders of Jack the Ripper Solved or still in London's East End Jack the Ripper has been an ongoing case since the first murder in 1888. The fact that no one knows who the real murderer is makes this case more intriguing. Although there are many suspects for the murders of Jack the Ripper, Joseph Barnett is the one with the blood on his hands. Joseph Barnett knew Mary Jane Kelly, he has a very close resemblance to the Ripper, and he has experience with violence and trauma in his past childhood and his job. To begin, Joseph Barnett knew Mary Jane Kelly. "Joseph met Mary Jane Kelly on April 8th 1887, and the two decided soon after to room together at various locations for the next year and a half. "After being interviewed for four hours by Detective Abberline himself, Barnett was ruled out as a suspect" (Whitechapel). As people doubted him as a suspect in this dispute more people rank him as a high suspect. However, as I said before, since Barnett knows Whitechapel so well he most likely was able to have gotten out of the scene unnoticed and cleaned up any evidence of him being there or around there at the time he murdered her. Also no one ever knows how well someone is able to lie. "Barnett had moved out of Miller's Court" (Whitechapel). Some may say that since Barnett moved out he lost touch with Kelly but after moving out, but Barnett had gone back to see Kelly multiple times from the time he moved out until her death. "Barnett harbored a strong dislike in prostitutes" (Schachner). Since Barnett hated prostitutes, some say that drove him to move out and never have anything to do with Kelly ever again. • 121. The Murder Of Jack The Ripper Police and Crime Investigators are still asking questions about the notorious murderer Jack the Ripper. His victims, letters, and the wild investigation all lead up to a mystery that may never be solved. Who was Jack the Ripper? April 3rd, 1888, in the East End of London near the Whitechapel District, the first of five of the most famous unsolved murder cases in history occurred. Emma Smith, a local prostitute, was maliciously attacked by a gang at the Wentworth Street Junction on Osborn Street. The gang robbed her of all her money and beat her senseless. They even forced a blunt object into her genitalia. Smith survived her initial attack and managed to struggle back to her home on George Street where several of her neighbors became aware ... On September 8, 1888, a bit before six in the morning, John Davis, an elderly man who resided at 29 Hanbury Street, was walking downstairs through the dark passageway that would lead him outside when he witnessed a sight that would render him horrified. He then saw two men walking through the same passageway, so he called them over. They followed John Davis into the backyard of the building where they all witnessed the mutilated body of Annie Chapman lying between the steps of the building and a wooden fence. Her head was turned toward the house and her clothes had been hoisted above her waist just like the other victims. Her hands were covered in blood, and her throat had been slashed. The three men go off to search for a police, and eventually Inspector Chandler arrives. He calls for medical help and a man named Dr. Bagster Phillips comes to the scene. • 125. Jack the Ripper The Whitechapel Murders and those of Jack the Ripper are not generally one and the same. Over a period of three years towards the end of the nineteenth century a number of prostitutes were murdered under different circumstances – the murder of prostitutes was not an especially unique occurrence during those times but several of the murders drew particular attention on account of the savagery with which the victim's bodies were mutilated. Within the Whitechapel Murders was a cluster of murders that demonstrated sufficient similarities as to suggest that they were committed by the same person. One of the first instances of serial murder was thus identified and sensationalised in the media as the work of ‘Jack the Ripper', nicknamed on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an attempt to unravel the tangle by an objective and empirical examination of information from crime scene and post mortem examination of the victims. Pre–digested information such as speculative newspaper reports, and statements from witnesses other than those called in a professional capacity have been avoided since theirs is largely subjective testimony that confounds more than it informs. I have not attempted to identify a named suspect as a consequence of my conclusions. In the course of an objective appraisal it is quite wrong to start with a suspect and then attempt to make the facts fit as so many later day investigators have done. Such an approach unavoidably leads to a skewed interpretation. I have, however, given a broad idea as to the type of man that Jack the Ripper may have been, and although such a summary may be of use to others, it lies firmly in the realm of ... • 129. Aaron Kosminsk Research Paper "MASKED KILLER ON THE LOOSE" is what every Newspaper headline read in 1888 in London. Jack The Ripper was Aaron Kosminski and to back this up I have circumstantial, testimonial, and forensic evidence. The background of Jack is that he was an unnamed murderer who viciously murdered prostitutes in whitechapel, london. He also sent notes to journalists and news organizations to almost tease the police into finding him, which they never did. The names of the victims were Catherine Eddowes, Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, and Mary Jane Kelly. There is testimonial evidence pointing towards Aaron Kosminski as being Jack The Ripper. There were many suspects but at the time of the murders, however, the two main officers believed it was Aaron Kosminski. "In saying that he was a Polish Jew I am merely stating a definitely ascertained fact..." Sir Robert Anderson said this in an interview and Aaron Kosminski was the only polish jew who was a suspect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was crazy and lived in Whitechapel. Aaron is believed to have schizophrenia which is a disorder where you can hear voices (Jones). Since he was crazy he may have believed he was killing for a higher power, maybe a cause or a belief. Since when he was taken away the killings stopped, that shows to me that he was Jack The Ripper since when he was out of the picture, the killings stopped. There is forensic evidence to prove that he is Jack The Ripper. Jari Louhelainen a microbiologist tested a shawl found near the murder of Catherine Eddowes. The DNA found on the Shawl proved to be Aaron Kosminski's. Other unnamed scientists have tested and agree that the DNA is Aaron Kosminski's. In the streets of 1930s Cleveland, a butcher wandered the streets of a vagrant district known as Kingsbury Run, bodies followed in his footsteps, more bodies than that of Jack the Ripper. This man killed twelve or more people in the span of three years; he is known as The Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run. During the process of Sweeney's interrogation by Ness he was given multiple polygraph lie detector tests to determine if he was the killer, Sweeney failed every test, however these tests were not enough evidence to convict the true killer. "He gave Sweeney two polygraph tests. He failed both," (Badal 2010). Following the events of Sweeney's lie detector tests in August of 1938 two of the last bodies left by Sweeney were found. One was a woman who was found in pieces and while the police searched for her body, they stumbled upon the body of a man, also dismembered. The discovery of these bodies is incredibly beneficial to the case against Sweeney, as the bodies were left in plain view of Eliot Ness' office window. The bodies showed signs of being refrigerated, meaning that the bodies were placed in front of Ness' window voluntarily. Few people knew about Eliot Ness' suspicion of Sweeney, he was dubbed "Ness' Secret Suspect" in the case, so the placement of the bodies was obviously intentional and a taunt towards Ness. The body placement was a very obvious blow against Eliot Ness' reputation and his inability to convict Sweeney. "Now as then, monarchs, investigators and the general public do not know the identity of the psychopathic slasher who, between Aug. 31 and Nov. 9, 1888, killed 5 of the 1,200 or so prostitutes then living in the teeming Whitechapel slums of east London." As the police pursued Jack the Ripper through the streets of the East End of London, they discovered a clue.In a doorway in nearby Goulston Street, a police constable, Alfred Long, patrolling his beat came across a piece of Catherine Eddowes bloodstained apron in the doorway of an apartment block. In the months leading up to her murder, a growing dependency on alcohol and an increased participation in prostitution created a rift between Mary and Joseph. Mary was not a literate person or skilled in any particular kind of work, and this afforded her little opportunity to social climb and rise above her current desperate situation. Without receiving financial support from her family members, a legal husband, or Barrett's share of income, it appears she resigned to prostitution as a full–time profession. Consequently, this choice led to the disintegration of life and ultimately prey to a sinister killer.
