Between August and November 1888, the Whitechapel area of London experienced five brutal murders attributed to an unidentified killer known as 'Jack the Ripper,' all of whom were prostitutes, with the victims showing severe mutilations. The document details the profiles of the victims, the police investigation, and numerous suspects, ultimately revealing ongoing debates regarding the killer's identity. Despite extensive investigations, Jack the Ripper was never caught, and the mystery surrounding the murders persists to this day.

except for one - Elizabeth Stride were horribly mutilated.

underlinen garment. I am sure that the body had been

of the sheet and the palliasse at the corner nearest
the partition.
The blood was produced by the severance of the
carotid artery, which was the cause of death. The
injury was inflicted while the deceased was lying at

During the investigations of this crime, it was
soon attached to 4 other brutal murders of
prostitutes occurred in that area containing
very similarities.
All the London police was hunting a man who
became known as “Jack the Ripper”, many
suspects were dubbed in this terms during the
hunt. But before this assassin was known as
“Leather apron”

Polly Nichols' body is discovered in
Buck's Row by Charles Cross, a
carman, on his way to work at
Pickfords in the City Road., and
Robert Paul who joins him at his
request. "Come and look over here,
there's a woman." Cross calls to
Paul.



Annie's body was discovered a little
before 6.00am by John Davis, a
carman who lived on the third floor
of No.29 Hanbury street with his
family.

She was 47 years old at the time of the death.
5' tall, Pallid complexion, blue yes and dark
brown wavy hear.
Her friend Amelia Palmer described her as
"sober, steady going woman who seldom took
any drink." She was, however, known to have
a taste for rum.

Miss Lyons claims to have had a
drink with a man she suspected to
be 'Leather Apron' at the Queen's
Head pub.

Dr. Cowan and Dr. Crabb inform
police that they believe Jacob
Issenscmid to be the Ripper.

Edward McKenna is arrested in
connection with the Ripper murders, but
is released soon after.

Dr. Philips suggests the uterus of the woman
might have been removed for sale to a
medical student who had been inquiring about
obtaining such specimens. The Inquest was
adjourned until the 26th.

31. 
Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes killed
at 1:00 and 1:45 am, respectively.

33. September 30th, 1888

At the time of her death she was 45 years old.
She had a pale complexion, light gray eyes and
had curly dark brown hair. All the teeth in her
lower left jaw were missing and she stood five
foot five inches tall.

At the time of her death, Catherine Eddowes
is suffering from Bright's Disease, a form of
Uremia. Friends spoke of Catherine as an
intelligent, scholarly woman but one who was
possessed of a fierce temper.

She was 46 years old at the time of her death.
5 feet tall, has hazel eyes and dark auburn
hair. She has a tattoo in blue ink on her left
forearm "TC."

The murderer is sometimes thought to have
made contact by letter with several public
figures. These letters, like the chalk message,
have never been proved to be authentic, and
may have been hoaxes.

The morning issue of the Daily News first
prints the text of the “Dear Boss” letter.

I keep on hearing the police have caught me but they wont fix me just yet. I have
laughed when they look so clever and talk about being on the right track. That
joke about Leather Apron gave me real fits. I am down on whores and I shant quit
ripping them till I do get buckled. Grand work the last job was. I gave the lady no
time to squeal. How can they catch me now. I love my work and want to start
again. You will soon hear of me with my funny little games. I saved some of the
proper red stuff in a ginger beer bottle over the last job to write with but it went
thick like glue and I cant use it. Red ink is fit enough I hope ha. ha. The next job I
do I shall clip the ladys ears off and send to the police officers just for jolly
wouldn't you. Keep this letter back till I do a bit more work, then give it out
straight. My knife's so nice and sharp I want to get to work right away if I get a
chance. Good Luck.”

first written reference which uses the name
"Jack the Ripper" in reference to the

November 9th, 1888 - Mary Jane Kelly was
approximately 25 years old at the time of her
death which would place her birth around
1863. She was 5' 7" tall and stout. She had
blonde hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
"Said to have been possessed of considerable
personal attractions."

She was last seen wearing a linsey frock
and a red shawl pulled around her
shoulders. She was bare headed.
Detective Constable Walter Dew claimed
to know Kelly well by sight and says that
she was attractive and paraded around,
usually in the company of two or three
friends. He says she always wore a
spotlessly clean white apron.

five' Ripper murders, although Martha
Tabram, stabbed to death on 6 August 1888,
is considered by some “ripperologists” to be the
first victim.
She was probably 39 years old at the time of the
death and was killed in George yard buildings.

identity of the killer. It has been suggested
that he or she was a doctor or butcher, based

have been put forward suggesting individuals

the murders with Queen Victoria's grandson,
Prince Albert Victor, also known as the Duke
of Clarence, although the evidence for this is
insubstantial.

A quarter of a mile from the scene of
Catherine Eddowes' murder, the words: “The
Juwes [sic] are not the men to be blamed for
nothing” ,were found scrawled on a wall in
chalk, and it was suggested this was written
by the killer. A police officer ordered the
words to be removed, fearing an anti-Semitic
backlash in an area with a large Jewish
population.

not thought to have killed again after

Violence to prostitutes was not uncommon and
there were many instances of women being
brutalised, but the nature of these murders

guilty, many people suspected the grandson of

committed suicide throwing himself on

The crimes stopped when he decided to move
to the USA. After his death, were found some
rings that could be from his victims

by her husband.
