15. Rational
Having a power point presentation to welcome a new class, and give them a
breakdown of what is to come in the new school year, is an excellent tool for
Meet the Teacher Night. It not only lets the students know what they will be
learning throughout the year, but it informs their parents as well, by giving a
course overview on what is going to be covered in each section throughout the
year. A presentation also can address the different school and classroom
policies and procedures. By having this, everyone knows ahead of time what is
expected of them. This includes both parents/guardians and students. A power
point can also provide the daily schedule, information about the school, and the
teacher.
I would use a presentation like this in my classroom for Meet the Teacher
Night, or an Open House. It is helpful in giving parents and students the
information that they will need to know in the beginning a new school year, and
help put them at ease. I like the idea that in giving a presentation such as this. It
gives parents and students an idea of your teaching style from being up front of
the class addressing the room. Also, by doing this on Meet the Teacher Night
you are given the opportunity to address many different concerns or questions
your class might have. All in all, this is a tool that I would use in my classroom
because it has many different effective qualities to it in starting the school year
off on a positive note.
