8. Behaviour expectations
At Marlow C of E Infant School we believe that in order to enable
effective teaching and learning to take place, good behaviour in
all aspects of school life is necessary.
As a school we support the rights of children and these rights are encompassed in the
UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. This is reflected in this policy by Article 19
‘You have the right to be protected from being mistreated, in body and mind’ and
Article 28 “Children have the right to go to school and receive a good quality
education.”
9. Restorative Approach
A Restorative Approach involves a conversation to enable the child to learn
about themselves and others, after an incident has occurred and is age
appropriate for our children.
The more it feels like this is a collaborative conversation and curious
exploration that the child is able to reflect and contribute to, the more they
will learn from the experience.
We will talk to your child in a supportive manner to enable them to reflect and learn from their
experience.
What happened?
What were you thinking?
How were you feeling?
Who else has been affected by this?
What do you need, and what needs to happen now so that the harm can be repaired?

At Marlow CE Infant school we follow the Essential Letters and Sounds

identifying the phonemes (smallest unit of sound) and graphemes
(written version of the sound) within words and using these to read
words. Children experience the joy of books and language whilst
rapidly acquiring the skills they need to become fluent independent
readers and writers. In phonics this term we will be:
• Learn Phase 5 graphemes
• Learn 9 new harder to read and spell word
15. Phonics and reading
• Children will a new phonics reading book every Friday. They will use
this book for shared reading on during the day and return it the
following Thursday.
• The book will only contain sounds covered so far in their phonics
sessions. This will give them the opportunity to embed the phonics
learning from the week/previous weeks.
• The children will be given the additional opportunity to take home
books from the central supply. These can give the children the
opportunity to access books that are not necessarily linked to
current phonics taught but will have a sticker on to explain this.
16. Maths
• To support the children’s fluency skills, this year
we are asking parents to download ‘1 minute
maths’
• Individual one-minute tasks focus on adding and
subtracting – and on ‘Subitising’, the skill of
instantly recognising the number of items in a
group without counting.

32. Bob Burden – educator describes what
a thinking school is….
‘an educational community in which all members share a common commitment
to giving regular careful thought to everything that takes place. This will involve
both students and staff learning how to think reflectively, critically and creatively,
and to employing these skills and techniques in the co-construction of a
meaningful curriculum and associated activities. Successful outcomes will be
reflected in student’s across a wide range of abilities demonstrating independent
and co-operative learning skills, high levels of achievement and both enjoyment
and satisfaction in learning. Benefits will be shown in ways in which all members
of the community interact with and show consideration for each other and in the
positive psychological well-being of both students and staff.’ (Burden, 2006)
