This document discusses different types of computer viruses, including boot sector infectors. A boot sector infector virus inserts itself into the boot sector of a disk so that when the computer boots up, the virus gains control and can infect the system. It can be difficult to remove a boot sector virus if it encrypts the boot sector. Users need continually updated antivirus software to detect and safely remove boot sector viruses, and may need to reformat the hard drive if the virus cannot be fully removed or has caused too much damage.
