ISO 45001 is the world’s international standard for occupational health and safety, issued to protect employees and visitors from work-related accidents and diseases. ISO 45001 certification was developed to mitigate any factors that can cause employees and businesses irreparable harm.
Its standards are the result of great effort by a committee of health and safety management experts who looked closely at a number of other approaches to system management — including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. In addition, ISO 45001 was designed to take other existing occupational health and safety standards, such as OHSAS 18001, into account — as well as the ILO’s labor standards, conventions and safety guidelines.
This implementation guide will help you run through the benefits, PDCA Cycle, Annex SL structure in detail for implementing ISO 45001.

Why Audit? What Is the Difference Between Regulatory Auditing and ISO 14001 o...Triumvirate Environmental
We hear about the importance of conducting audits of your facilities. They allow us to be prepared for when the regulators show up. However, have you ever considered obtaining an ISO certification? The two standards that focus solely on EH&S are the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard or the ISO 45001 Occupations Health and Safety Standard. This session will cover the importance of auditing, what the ISO standards entail, and how they may actually help you with compliance and to show your end users that you care about your employees' health and safety and the environment.
Introducing iso 45001 iosh presentation - presenter notesArunKumar Ganesan
This document provides an overview of the new ISO 45001 international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It discusses the background and need for a new standard to replace OHSAS 18001. Key points include that ISO 45001 will use the PDCA model and Annex SL common framework, emphasizing leadership and worker participation. It outlines the main clauses and differences from OHSAS 18001, such as a greater focus on risk management, compliance, and contractor oversight. Finally, it discusses the progress of ISO 45001 and calls for organizations to prepare for adoption to gain benefits like improved reputation, resilience, and business results.
Slides from December 2018's address to the Chartered Quality Institute (West of Scotland branch) by Karen MacKenzie MCQI; CQP; MASQ; FCIPD; IRCA Principal Auditor; examining the evolution of OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001.
The document provides information about the new ISO 45001 international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It discusses key changes from the previous OHSAS 18001 standard, including a greater focus on leadership and risk management. The new standard adopts a common framework from Annex SL, which is meant to better align it with other ISO management system standards. It also emphasizes the importance of understanding organizational context, worker participation, and opportunities for continual improvement of occupational health and safety performance.
This document discusses ISO 45001, the new international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It provides an agenda for a presentation on ISO 45001, including an introduction to the standard, comparisons to the previous OHSAS 18001, key clauses around leadership commitment, worker involvement, risk management, and organizational context. The presentation will also discuss barriers to leadership commitment, best practices for improving OH&S performance, and how stakeholders may be impacted. Attendees are invited to complete a survey to share their organization's challenges and needs for implementing ISO 45001.
NOSA’s very own Head of Innovation, Dr Deonie Botha, deliberated the fact that the business environment is complex in nature and that organisations need to function like complex adaptive systems to be robust and ensure long-term sustainability. ISO 45001 emphasises a multitude of technical and non-technical factors, which organisations need to manage in order to ensure compliance. However, Deonie also highlighted how it will also serve as a tool to assist organisations in being robust and ensuring sustainability.
Dive into the world of Occupational and Health Management Safety Systems (OHMS) with a special focus on ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) compliance in this informative presentation.
ISO 45001:2018 is the world’s first occupational health and safety (OH&S) international standard. This new standard replaces the old OHSAS 18001:2007.
ISO 45001 helps your organization provide a safe and healthy workplace for your employees and other people, prevent deaths, work-related injury and ill-health as well as continually improve OH&S performance.

Complete Guide on ISO 45001 CertificationRaj Startup
ISO 45001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system. The primary goal of ISO 45001 is to provide a framework for organizations to effectively manage and improve their occupational health and safety performance.
The document provides an overview of upcoming changes to international standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001.
Some key changes are a greater emphasis on organizational context, risk management, and leadership from top management. Terminology is standardized between standards, with "document" and "record" replaced by "documented information." Requirements are modified to focus more on continual improvement, prevention, and management system integration across the organization.
ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems. It was first published in 1987 and has been revised several times since to keep up with changes in business and quality practices. The latest version, ISO 9001:2015, includes several changes from previous versions, including a new annex called Annex SL that establishes a common framework for all ISO management system standards. This high level structure includes elements like scope, leadership responsibilities, planning, support, operations, performance evaluation, and improvement. The standard emphasizes risk-based thinking, organizational context, leadership involvement, and flexibility over documentation requirements. It aims to help organizations better meet customer and regulatory requirements through an effective quality management approach.
The document provides a gap analysis for organizations transitioning from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001. It compares the clauses between the two standards and identifies the evidence required and actions needed to meet the requirements of ISO 45001. Some of the key changes highlighted include new requirements in ISO 45001 for understanding context, risks and opportunities, the hierarchy of controls, management of change, outsourcing, and procurement. There is also increased emphasis on leadership, worker participation, and continual improvement. Organizations will need to review their systems and processes against the requirements of ISO 45001 and take actions to address any gaps to achieve conformance with the new standard.
This document provides an overview of ISO 9001:2015 requirements for quality management systems. It describes the quality management principles, PDCA cycle, risk-based management approach and the 10 clauses of ISO 9001:2015. Each clause is broken down into its requirements and the types of evidence expected to be presented during an audit. The goal of ISO 9001 is to ensure consistency and quality of products/services through all aspects of planning, operations, evaluation and improvement of an organization's processes.
This document provides an overview of ISO 14001 and describes some key changes between the 2004 and 2015 versions. Some major changes in the 2015 standard include a stronger emphasis on leadership and risk management. It also requires organizations to have a deeper understanding of their operational context and interested parties. The new standard is more focused on environmental performance and promotes a lifecycle approach to managing environmental aspects.
This document provides an overview of key changes between the ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system standards. Some major changes include a new emphasis on understanding the organization's context and interested parties, determining risks and opportunities, and considering environmental aspects across the entire life cycle of products and services. The revised standard also incorporates the Annex SL high level structure used in other new ISO management standards. It replaces requirements for procedures with requirements for processes, and no longer mentions records specifically but instead focuses on documented information.
This document discusses the process approach in ISO 9001:2015. It defines the process approach as integrating processes into a complete system to achieve strategic and operational objectives. An organization should understand, define, and integrate its unique processes and their interactions. The process approach incorporates risk-based thinking to ensure risks are considered when establishing, implementing, and maintaining processes. Processes can be managed using the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle. Benefits of the process approach include increased accountability, focus, integration, and consistency as well as better resource use and customer confidence.
ISO 9001 provides requirements for quality management systems to help organizations ensure customer satisfaction and compliance. ISO 14001 provides requirements for environmental management systems to help organizations minimize environmental impacts and improve performance. Both standards concern managing processes to meet objectives and can be applied to any organization. Certification is voluntary and involves an external audit to verify conformance, but many organizations benefit from implementing the standards without certification.

8. Why a new international standard is needed?
There was a worldwide need to harmonize health and safety
management systems using an international standard and
sharing best practices.
Over a period:
• Effectiveness reduces.
• Shortcuts emerge.
• Complacency.
• Additional aspects needed
attention.
Most companies are ISO 9001 certified and familiar with the
standard therefore a new ISO Safety Management Standard was
the ideal choice.
10. What is Annex SL?
Brainstorming Session
• Who has worked with different
management systems?
• What are the problems faced?
• Why are organizations considering

management systems?
11. What is Annex SL?
Meaning:
In simple terms then, Annex SL is a
high level structure for all future
development of ISO standards to
follow. It applies to every ISO
standard, meaning that they will
all have the same structure.
The revised ISO 9001 and ISO
14001, as well as the new ISO
45001 is based on Annex SL’s high
level structure.
Purpose:
• Standardize terms and
requirements hence
reducing confusion
between ISO standards.
• Cut down on repeat
processes.
• Reduce bureaucracy
• Improve efficiency.
14. ISO 45001:2018 vs OHSAS 18001:

42. 9.1.2 Evaluation of Compliance:
The organization shall maintain knowledge and
understanding of its compliance status.
Performance Evaluation & Improvements:
The term ‘compliance status’ is new. It is considered to be the presence of
an overall view of the state of affairs regarding compliance with legal and
other requirements. OHSAS 18001 included the obligation to conduct an
internal evaluation of compliance. This made it possible to delegate the
evaluation and handling of any nonconformities to the departments or
other levels, without acquiring an overview of the organization as a whole.
Under ISO 45001, the organization must have an up-to-date view of its
compliance.
43. 10.2 Incident, Non conformity and Corrective
Action:
When an incident or a non conformity occurs:
Performance Evaluation & Improvements:
• Take immediate action.
• Evaluate, determine the corrective action to eliminate root cause(s) in
order that it doe not recur or occur elsewhere.
• Review risk assessment.
• Take action in accordance with hierarchy of controls and change
management.
• Assess hazards due to the changes prior to taking action.
• Review effectiveness.
• Update documents.
45. Step 01:
Purchase a copy of ISO 45001:2018.
Implementing ISO 45001:2018:

Implementing ISO 45001:2018:
Develop “Context of the Organization”
• Use SWOT and PESTLE analysis.
• Identify stakeholders and level of involvement, their
needs and expectations;
• Company risks and opportunities.
Conduct a gap analysis.
47. Step 03:
Implementing ISO 45001:2018:
Plan
• Identify the processes for an effective
OH&S Management System.
• Identify mandatory documented
information.
• Consider integrating other management system with the
common Annex SL framework.
• Identify communication, consultation, participation and
awareness processes.
51. Take Away
ISO 45001 standard
focuses on the need
for a management
system, not the
management of
specific types of
hazards and risks.
OH&S is no longer
treated as a “stand
alone” but must be
viewed within the
perspective of running
a sound and sustainable
organization.
Health and Safety
Manager is NOT the
only one responsible
for health and safety.
The standard expects
OH&S aspects to be
integrated into the
structure of an
organization, ensuring
buy-in from top
management and
greater employee
contribution
Employee participation
& knowledge is the key
because OH&S
systems are most
effective when people
throughout the
organization are
engaged.
ISO 45001 does focus
on risk management,
but it also focuses on
the role that OH&S
management can have
in driving a positive
cultural change within
an organization.
