This document describes the design and analysis of an unloading and handling mechanism for heavy bags in small-scale industries. The mechanism was designed to safely and quickly unload linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) bags imported for a small-scale plastics industry in India. The current manual handling process caused tears and holes in the bags, increasing costs from material loss and moisture issues. The new mechanism uses a large pitch screw to convert rotational motion to linear motion and move hooks carrying the bags along L-sections. Computational analysis and a prototype were developed to validate that the simple, affordable mechanism meets the goals of handling bags safely and reducing time and costs associated with the current process.

The system is consisting of modified shear blade, suitable blade holder, hydraulic system according to new tonnage capacity and conveyor system. Unigraphics is used to model the blade and blade holder, meshing and analysis is carried out by using hypermesh and nastran. The parts are manufactured accordingly to new design parameters, and the following are installed and the performance characteristics to be determined are time, cost and productivity for this new modified design relative to the old system. It is established from the test results taken for a period of three months, that there is reduction in the time and cost of 70-80%, and 50-60% which in directly increased the productivity of machine and making the process economical. Abstract
When passenger car hits the truck-trailer at rear, it penetrates inside the truck bed called truck trailer under-ride crash. This is responsible for thousands of accidents, causing severe injuries and spot death. This is mostly due to the lack of effective guards. The Present work focuses on energy absorption analysis of a Rear under Run Protection Device (RUPD) under crash scenario. The aim of the study is to replace Steel RUPD with RUPD made of composite material to reduce weight of the vehicle. In this study carbon fibre reinforced plastic composites were selected due to their high specific strength and specific stiffness which make them a preferred candidate in the material selection for modern lightweight structures in automotive engineering which can contribute to the improvement of mileage in addition to safety of the occupants. The RUPD was modelled in CATIA. Finite element model was generated in HYPERMESH and analysed in LS-DYNA for both Carbon/Epoxy RUPD and Steel RUPD and observed that Carbon/Epoxy RUPD absorbs 50% of kinetic energy; whereas steel RUPD absorbs 90%. But weight of Steel RUPD is 75 kg whereas the weight of Carbon/Epoxy RUPD is less than Steel RUPD which found to be below 15 kg. This results in weight reduction and increases mileage of the vehicle. Considering above advantage, composites can be potential candidate for RUPD.

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
