2. CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
Punctuality
In Western countries punctuality is seen as a positive
quality, is considered a sign of respect. That’s because
they’ve got a rigid concept of time. For example a train
is considered late if it arrives just one minute late.
However, in Latin American countries, time is
approximate. The meaning of being on time can mean
30 minutes late, so that’s what we call “rubber time”.
3. DISASTERS
Natural disasters
A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from natural
processes of the Earth; examples include floods, volcanic
eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other geologic processes.
A natural disaster can cause loss of life, and typically leaves
some economic damage .
An adverse event will not rise to the level of a disaster if it occurs
in an area without vulnerable population.
4. TECHNOLOGIC
AL MYSTERIES
Pyramids
Egypt’s ancient pyramids are
amzing for the size and their
mathematical precision. It’s difficul
to imagine ancient people
contrustic that with the limited
technology that existed over 4000
years ago.
There are a lot of theories
describing the buildings, and so
many people think the used the
River Nile to transport stones.
Others believe it was imposible.
5. UNUSUAL MUSEUMS
Cat Cabinet, Amsterdam
You might have heard about people being “barking mad”, well you
certainly won’t find them at the Cat Cabinet (Kattenkabinet). This
feline monument was founded in memory of a frisky tomcat, John
Pierpont Morgan, long-time companion of the museum's founder.
The collection is dedicated entirely to the role of cats in art and
culture throughout history. Even if you’re not cat crazy, then a stroll
through the impressive rooms of this beautiful canal house - also
used in the film Ocean’s Twelve - is an unexpected treat.
6. ENDANGERED ANIMALS
Pangolin
What’s scaly from tip to tail and can curl into a ball? Pangolins!
These solitary, primarily nocturnal animals, are easily
recognized by their full armor of scales. A startled pangolin will
cover its head with its front legs, exposing its scales to any
potential predator. If touched or grabbed it will roll up
completely into a ball, while the sharp scales on the tail can be
used to lash out.
7. HOME REMEDIES
Treatyour cold at home
Being sick, even when you’re home in bed, isn’t
fun. The combination of body aches, fever,
chills, and nasal congestion can be enough to
make anyone miserable.
There are plenty of home remedies that can
help alleviate your symptoms and get you back
to normal. If you still feel sick after a few weeks,
make an appointment with your doctor.
8. FAMOUS
OUTLAWS
Thomas Edward Ketchum
Black Jack was a cowboy who later
turned to a life of crime after leaving
Texas in 1890. He joined several other
outlaws of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang,
which focused on robbing trains and
ranches. He was hanged in 1901 after
being caught during one of the train
robberies.
