Animal Feed additives are products or substances that are used for improving the animal health. The feed additives are added in various forms and in varying doses depending on the animal. The global animal feed additive market, valued at $14.9 billion in 2013, is estimated to reach $20 billion by 2020. The increase in global meat consumption is the major driving factor that has augmented the demand for animal feed and feed additives market.
organic feed is a bottleneck for the production of organic goods.
1. More feeding strategies are needed due to the reduced use of veterinary drugs in organic farming
2. The article discusses the relationship between being strict follower of organic rules and the achievement of agrifood sustainability. In this sense: doesn't make more sense the bring non-organic but sustainably sourced feeds in organic farms than organic feeds that arrive to the farm with huge carbon footprint?
The paper is not a positioning one, but a series of reflection for open discussion and carry out changes in the agrifood system and organic farming rules (maybe).
A NEW ERA IN THE WAR AGAINST WASTE:TWO-TIER PREVENTION TARGETSRamy Salemdeeb
If the world is to feed its predicted population of 9 billion in 2050, the issue of food waste must be addressed. Could a two-tier approach, in which developed nations implement waste reduction projects in developing countries, offer the greatest benefits to all?

Ireland’s Leadership Role in Creating
Global Value Chains in Agri-food
14th July 2015
5. Challenges to Global Agri-food
Value Chains
• Need to increase food production by 60% by 2050
• 9bn population, 180m added to the middle classes
globally each year
• Agriculture is challenged –
• Slow-down in productivity growth
• Limited availability of new arable land and loss of
existing arable land
• Climate change
• Price and availability of energy and water
• Impact of urbanisation on rural labour supply
• Growing demand for protein
6. Challenges to Global Agri-food
Value Chains
• Increasing complexity of agri-food value chains –
processed and prepared consumer foods eg today’s
pizza – 35 ingredients from 60 countries in one box
• Every day, globally food businesses consume
millions of tonnes of raw materials, generate vast
amounts of data, millions of man-hours of
experience and operate a global network of
suppliers and customers
• Consumer awareness and trust issues – breaches
will have an immediate effect
