The presentation discussed using IMS and the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as a remote access platform for IoT that provides quality of service, security, and remote device management without new infrastructure. It also described a proof-of-concept smart home gateway that acts as a central connection hub and service enabler to integrate different smart home systems and interface with IMS/SIP for remote access and management.

Machine Learning Challenges For Automated Prompting In Smart Homes
As the world's population ages, there is an increased prevalence of diseases related to aging, such as dementia. Caring for individuals with dementia is frequently associated with extreme physical and emotional stress, which often leads to depression. Smart home technology and advances in machine learning techniques can provide innovative solutions to reduce caregiver burden. One key service that caregivers provide is prompting individuals with memory limitations to initiate and complete daily activities. We hypothesize that sensor technologies combined with machine learning techniques can automate the process of providing reminder-based interventions or prompts. This dissertation focuses on addressing machine learning challenges that arise while devising an effective automated prompting system.
Our first goal is to emulate natural interventions provided by a caregiver to individuals with memory impairments, by using a supervised machine learning approach to classify pre-segmented activity steps into prompt or no-prompt classes. However, the lack of training examples representing prompt situations causes imbalanced class distribution. We proposed two probabilistic oversampling techniques, RACOG and wRACOG, that help in better learning of the``prompt'' class. Moreover, there are certain prompt situations where the sensor triggering signature is quite similar to the situations when the participant would probably need no prompt. The absence of sufficient data attributes to differentiate between prompt and no-prompt classes causes class overlap. We propose ClusBUS, a clustering-based under-sampling technique that identifies ambiguous data regions. ClusBUS preprocesses the data in order to give more importance to the minority class during classification.
Our second goal is to automatically detect activity errors in real time, while an individual performs an activity. We propose a collection of one-class classification-based algorithms, known as DERT, that learns only from the normal activity patterns and without using any training examples for the activity errors. When evaluated on unseen activity data, DERT is able to identify abnormalities or errors, which can be potential prompt situations.
We validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in predicting potential prompt situations on the sensor data of ten activities of daily living, collected from 580 participants, who were part of two smart home studies.

Tokenization, securitization, and monetization of real-world assets refer to the process of converting traditional assets into digital assets that can be traded, managed, and invested in a new way. Tokenization involves the creation of a digital token that represents ownership or a proof of authenticity of a real-world asset. The token can be traded on blockchain-based platforms, providing a secure and transparent record of ownership and enabling the creation of new markets for these assets. Securitization refers to the process of pooling together a set of assets and creating new securities backed by the underlying assets. In the context of tokenization, securitization involves the creation of asset-backed tokens that represent ownership in a portfolio of assets. Monetization refers to the process of generating revenue from an asset. Patent information can be utilized in various ways depending on how it is understood. I have devised a method to extract useful insights for the development of new products or services from patents in specific technology fields by using the analysis and cognition capabilities of GPT-4 based ChatGPT. I have applied this to the fields of generative AI, metaverse, and Web3-based fintech.
For the case study, in the generative AI field, I examined Google's patent US10452978 "Attention-based sequence transduction neural networks" (this patent describes the transformer architecture, which is the basis of most large language models (LLMs) for generative AI); in the metaverse field, I looked at Meta's patent US11302063 "3D conversations in an artificial reality environment"; and in the Web3-based fintech field, I explored nChain's patent US10776761 "Virtual currency system."
I input into ChatGPT a guideline consisting of five key steps: identifying the main purpose of the patent invention, summarizing the technological innovations in the patent claims, describing potential products or services based on the technology, identifying the main industry participants, and evaluating competitive advantages. For more details, please refer to the attached file and evaluate the level of results at your discretion.
The outputs generated from the method described can provide valuable insights for various business applications:
Patent licensing promotion: By identifying the main purpose, technological innovations, and potential products or services related to a patent, businesses can better understand the value proposition of their intellectual property. This information can be used to showcase the benefits of the patented technology to potential licensees, making it more appealing for them to enter into licensing agreements. Thus, you can more effectively promote patent licensing.
Finding potential infringement: Summarizing the technological innovations in the patent claims helps businesses clearly understand the scope of their intellectual property protection. NFT financialization refers to bringing NFTs closer to financial use, mostly, by making NFT useful in DeFi protocols. NFT financialization is the most important element of NFT monetization innovation to overcome the low liquidity and high price volatility of almost all NFTs currently.
NFT Fractionalization splits a NFT into smaller fungible tokens that represent partial ownership of the NFT. The NFT is locked in a smart contract and the ownership remains with the original holder. Fractionalization can unlock liquidity for NFT owners and cheapens access to valuable NFTs, and improves the NFT market spectrum. An issue with fractionalization is a reconstitution after ractionalization. Buyout auctions alleviate the reconstitution problem to some extent.

NFT Lending uses NFT as collateral for loans. In peer-to-peer lending, borrowers and lenders manually negotiate and come to an agreement for loan terms such as duration, interest rates and loan-to-value ratios in a peer-to-peer fashion. This lending enables a customizable loan terms without a need to rely on price oracles. Because the matching process is manual time-to-liquidity may be slow. In peer-to-pool lending, liquidity providers fungible tokens into pools and borrowers take up loans from these pools instantaneously. Borrowers should put up their NFTs as collateral by locking them in smart contracts (digital vaults). This lending, however, must rely on price oracles to automate loan terms.

The scenarios analysis can show potential interactions between the future users and the IoT smart home product via the specific usage of the product and behavior of the user under environments provided by the product functionality. Thus, the scenarios analysis exploiting patent information can provide the new IoT product concept (e.g., specific benefits to the user, product design, product functionality and the technology for the product). The first step in the scenario development is to do patent search and review for the state of the art of IoT innovation for smart home applications. The searched patents that are related to the smart home applications should be analyzed to find the measurable user benefits provided by the value propositions (automation, energy management, care, safety, entertainment) and method/device/system to offer the value propositions. Then, develop a story of the future implementations of the state of the art of IoT innovation for smart home applications exploiting 5W1H - Who, When, Where, What, Why, How. The stakeholders (users) in the scenario for the IoT smart home are usually the member of home who can be specified by age, gender, profession. The time can be the morning, afternoon, evening. The place can be the bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchen and outside. Then, describe how the specific product (including system)

Base on the developed scenarios, potential improvements over the implemented product can be devised by listing new product features, functionality, UI/UX, integration method etc. Followings summarize the key elements of the IoT smart home scenarios for each value proposition. Home Automation The smart home product should determine how to solve user’s problem or perform for a specific situation without constant guidance from the user. The smart home product should adapt to changing situation/environment. The smart home product should react properly to the changing situation/environment in accordance with the performance objectives. The smart home product should join the home networks without user’s manual configuration. Home Energy Management The smart home product should adapt the overall energy efficiency of the home to the comfort and quality of life. The smart home product should control the home heating for reducing energy consumption while ensuring comfort. The smart home product should control lighting based on user’s presence and environment.
