This document discusses the chemistry of life, including different types of bonds (polar covalent, nonpolar covalent, ionic, hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces) and how they relate to biomolecules. It covers Stanley Miller's primordial soup hypothesis for how organic molecules formed abiotically on the early Earth. Key biomolecules like carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids are made of hydrocarbons with different functional groups that allow for their diverse roles in living organisms.

This presentaion describes about the basic principle effects in organic chemistry like inductive, mesomeric, electromeric, resonance and hyperconjugation. this presentation contains some JAM competitive questions.
Inductive Effect is the important topic in organic chemistry that gives us idea about electron withdrawing and accepting module of the specific group that determines the reactivity of the molecule or compound.

Organic chemistry is a chemistry subdiscipline involving the scientific study of the structure, properties, and reactions of organic compounds and organic materials, i.e., matter in its various forms that contain carbon atoms.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

3. Bonds in Biology
Strong bonds
A. Nonpolarcovalent bonds
B. Polar covalent bonds
Weak bonds
A. Ionic
B. Hydrogen bonds
C. Van der Waals forces

4. Why do we care?? Bonds matter!

5. Electronegativity Review
Electronegativity = the tendency of an
atom to attract electrons
It’s better to
be negative
AP Biology
6. What’s up POLAR BEAR???
A molecule is polar if its components
don’t share electrons equally.
One component will pull the electrons
harder.
AP Biology
8. A. Polar covalent bonds
Pair of electrons shared
unequally by 2 atoms
+ –
H –
Oxygen pulls the
Oxygen shared electrons
toward itself –
– oxygen “wins!”

9. B. Nonpolarcovalent bond
Pair of electrons shared equally by 2
atoms
example: hydrocarbons = CxHx
methane (CH4 )
Lots of
energy stored…

balanced, stable,

11. ARE YOU WITH ME?
Polar covalent or Nonpolar covalent?
AP Biology
14. A. Ionic Bonds
The more electronegative atom
DOMINATES (steals the electron
completely)
Greedy polar bear
AP Biology
15. B. Hydrogen bonding
1) Between molecules
2) Between H+and an electronegative ion
Common electronegative ions =
O, N, F

17. C. Van der Waals forces (aka
interactions) = STICKINESS
When molecules are really close, they
sometimes “STICK” because of
charges
Only lasts a short amount of time

18. Why are we studying chemistry?
Chemistry is the origin of life.

19. Mr. Stanley Miller and the
Primordial Soup Hypothesis
In the beginning… there was only H2O,
