The document discusses the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway project called the Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra. Some key points:
- The expressway aims to connect 24 districts in Maharashtra and boost economic growth in less developed areas.
- It will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to 8 hours and enable speeds up to 150 km/hr.
- 19 new towns called Krushi Samruddhi Nagar will be developed along the expressway to promote industries and commerce.
- The 701 km expressway will pass through 10 districts and 392 villages at an estimated cost of Rs. 55,000 crores.
2. Concept behind the Project:
• Maharashtra, with a registered growth of 12% for the year
2014-15, is the biggest state economy within India. This
growth can be attributed to 30% of the state that attracts
investment from foreign capital and offers skilled labor
and innovation. The remaining 70% of the state has a
growth potential that is waiting to be realized.
• This potential can be realized by creating an enabling
infrastructure such as a state-of-the-art transportation
network that connects ten districts directly to Mumbai
and fourteen other districts through a feeder network. It
also proposes developing Krushi Samruddhi Nagar, or new
towns along the Mahamarg.
3. MSRDC will act as the New Town Development Authority (NTDA) for the development of Krushi Samruddhi
Nagar (new towns) that will be developed along the expressway.
It will be an entirely Greenfield project
will enable commuters to cover the distance between Nagpur and Mumbai in eight hours and
transporters in 16 hours.
Twenty-four of the thirty-six districts in Maharashtra will be connected through this fast-track
network.
Nineteen plus new towns (Krishi Samruddhi Nagar), equipped with modern amenities, agro-based
industries and a commercial hub will be developed along the Mahamarg.
The hinterland of Maharashtra will be connected to the port in Mumbai and multi-modal cargo hub in
Nagpur.
The land required will be pooled from landowners by using a special scheme - the land pooling scheme.
Highlights of the Project:
4. Samruddhi Mahamarg - Project details:
The Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg,
will run through 390 villages, across 10
districts and will cut down the traveling
time between the two cities to eight hours.
Implemented and executed by the Maharashtra
State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), this
is one of the completely greenfield expressways,
which will be designed for speeds of up to 150 kms

25,000 crores is likely to be spent on land acquisition.
5. Districts traversed by Samruddhi Mahamarg:
The Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway will traverse through 10
key districts directly, 14 districts indirectly via feeder
roads, 24 Talukas, and 392 villages.
6. Salient Features:
Commuters:

time from Mumbai to Aurangabad will be 4 hours and from
Aurangabad to Nagpur, another 4 hours.
• Roads of international quality will ensure reduction in costs
in terms of fuel savings and vehicle maintenance.
• The zero-fatality mahamarg will ensure safe and speedy
transport.
