‘Samruddhi Mahamarg’
-The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway
Concept behind the Project:
• Maharashtra, with a registered growth of 12% for the year
2014-15, is the biggest state economy within India. This
growth can be attributed to 30% of the state that attracts
investment from foreign capital and offers skilled labor
and innovation. The remaining 70% of the state has a
growth potential that is waiting to be realized.
• This potential can be realized by creating an enabling
infrastructure such as a state-of-the-art transportation
network that connects ten districts directly to Mumbai
and fourteen other districts through a feeder network. It
also proposes developing Krushi Samruddhi Nagar, or new
towns along the Mahamarg.
MSRDC will act as the New Town Development Authority (NTDA) for the development of Krushi Samruddhi
Nagar (new towns) that will be developed along the expressway.
It will be an entirely Greenfield project
will enable commuters to cover the distance between Nagpur and Mumbai in eight hours and
transporters in 16 hours.
Twenty-four of the thirty-six districts in Maharashtra will be connected through this fast-track
network.
Nineteen plus new towns (Krishi Samruddhi Nagar), equipped with modern amenities, agro-based
industries and a commercial hub will be developed along the Mahamarg.
The hinterland of Maharashtra will be connected to the port in Mumbai and multi-modal cargo hub in
Nagpur.
The land required will be pooled from landowners by using a special scheme - the land pooling scheme.
Highlights of the Project:
Samruddhi Mahamarg - Project details:
The Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg,
will run through 390 villages, across 10
districts and will cut down the traveling
time between the two cities to eight hours.
Implemented and executed by the Maharashtra
State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), this
is one of the completely greenfield expressways,
which will be designed for speeds of up to 150 kms
per hour.
Around 24 townships are being planned along the route,
which will boost economic development the less-
developed areas of the state.
The expressway will pass through the mountainous
terrain of the Western Ghats.
This eight-laned expressway will have six lanes and two
additional service roads.
The estimated cost of construction of the Mumbai
Nagpur highway will be Rs 30,000 crores, while Rs
25,000 crores is likely to be spent on land acquisition.
Districts traversed by Samruddhi Mahamarg:
The Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway will traverse through 10
key districts directly, 14 districts indirectly via feeder
roads, 24 Talukas, and 392 villages.
Salient Features:
Commuters:
• Commuters will be able to cover the distance of 701 km
between Nagpur and Mumbai within 8 hours. Thus, travel
time from Mumbai to Aurangabad will be 4 hours and from
Aurangabad to Nagpur, another 4 hours.
• Roads of international quality will ensure reduction in costs
in terms of fuel savings and vehicle maintenance.
• The zero-fatality mahamarg will ensure safe and speedy
transport.
• Tree plantation along the mahamarg will reduce pollution.
• Commuters will have easier access to tourist places.
• Wi-Fi connectivity along the mahamarg and numerous
wayside amenities will make travel productive.
Salient Features:
Businesses:
• Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray
Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg will link various
agro and industrial nodes of the state to key consumer
markets of Nagpur and Mumbai.
• The Krushi Samruddhi Nagar will provide quality
business accommodation, world-class infrastructure
and high amenity environment with good transport
links to the investors.
• Human resource and skilled as well as unskilled
manpower will be easily available.

This growth can be attributed to 30% of the state that attracts investment from foreign capital and offers skilled labor and innovation. The remaining 70% of the state has a growth potential that is waiting to be realized. • This potential can be realized by creating an enabling infrastructure such as a state-of-the-art transportation network that connects ten districts directly to Mumbai and fourteen other districts through a feeder network. It also proposes developing Krushi Samruddhi Nagar, or new towns along the Mahamarg.
  • 3. MSRDC will act as the New Town Development Authority (NTDA) for the development of Krushi Samruddhi Nagar (new towns) that will be developed along the expressway. It will be an entirely Greenfield project will enable commuters to cover the distance between Nagpur and Mumbai in eight hours and transporters in 16 hours. Twenty-four of the thirty-six districts in Maharashtra will be connected through this fast-track network. Nineteen plus new towns (Krishi Samruddhi Nagar), equipped with modern amenities, agro-based industries and a commercial hub will be developed along the Mahamarg. The hinterland of Maharashtra will be connected to the port in Mumbai and multi-modal cargo hub in Nagpur. The land required will be pooled from landowners by using a special scheme - the land pooling scheme. Highlights of the Project:
  • 4. Samruddhi Mahamarg - Project details: The Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, will run through 390 villages, across 10 districts and will cut down the traveling time between the two cities to eight hours. Implemented and executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), this is one of the completely greenfield expressways, which will be designed for speeds of up to 150 kms per hour. Around 24 townships are being planned along the route, which will boost economic development the less- developed areas of the state. The expressway will pass through the mountainous terrain of the Western Ghats. This eight-laned expressway will have six lanes and two additional service roads. The estimated cost of construction of the Mumbai Nagpur highway will be Rs 30,000 crores, while Rs 25,000 crores is likely to be spent on land acquisition.
  • 5. Districts traversed by Samruddhi Mahamarg: The Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway will traverse through 10 key districts directly, 14 districts indirectly via feeder roads, 24 Talukas, and 392 villages.
  • 6. Salient Features: Commuters: • Commuters will be able to cover the distance of 701 km between Nagpur and Mumbai within 8 hours. Thus, travel time from Mumbai to Aurangabad will be 4 hours and from Aurangabad to Nagpur, another 4 hours. • Roads of international quality will ensure reduction in costs in terms of fuel savings and vehicle maintenance. • The zero-fatality mahamarg will ensure safe and speedy transport. • Tree plantation along the mahamarg will reduce pollution. • Commuters will have easier access to tourist places. • Wi-Fi connectivity along the mahamarg and numerous wayside amenities will make travel productive.
  • 7. Salient Features: Businesses: • Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg will link various agro and industrial nodes of the state to key consumer markets of Nagpur and Mumbai. • The Krushi Samruddhi Nagar will provide quality business accommodation, world-class infrastructure and high amenity environment with good transport links to the investors. • Human resource and skilled as well as unskilled manpower will be easily available.
