Definition of term PROSTHODONTICS (GPT 9)
Prosthodontics is the dental specialty pertaining to the
diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance
of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of
patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or
deficient teeth and/or maxillofacial tissues by using
biocompatible substitutes.

6. Definitions
 Fixed Prosthodontics: The branch of Prosthodontics concerned
with the replacement and/or restoration of teeth by artificial
substitutes that cannot be removed from the mouth by the
patient
 Removable Prosthodontics: The branch of Prosthodontics
concerned with the replacement of the teeth and contiguous
structures for edentulous or partially edentulous patients by
artificial substitutes that are readily removable from the mouth
by the patient

7.  Implant prosthodontics : the selection, planning, development,
placement, replacement of missing teeth and/or associated
structures, and maintenance of restoration(s) with dental
implants.
 Maxillofacial prosthetics: the branch of prosthodontics
concerned with the restoration and/or replacement of
stomatognathic and craniofacial structures with prostheses
that may or may not be removed on a regular or elective
basis.
