Introduction To A Narrative Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Introduction to a Narrative Essay" can pose several challenges,
primarily because it demands a delicate balance between creativity and structure. Introducing a
narrative piece requires the writer to captivate the reader's attention while also setting the stage
for the story to unfold. This task involves carefully selecting an engaging hook, providing
context without giving away too much, and establishing the central theme or purpose of the
narrative.
Moreover, crafting a compelling introduction entails understanding the nuances of storytelling
and effectively conveying the essence of the narrative without revealing all its details upfront. It
necessitates thoughtful consideration of the target audience, the tone of the essay, and the
desired impact on the reader. Striking the right chord in the introduction sets the tone for the
entire essay, influencing how readers perceive and engage with the narrative.
Additionally, writing an effective introduction to a narrative essay requires mastery of language
and rhetorical devices to create a sense of anticipation and intrigue. It demands skillful use of
descriptive language, vivid imagery, and perhaps even a touch of suspense to draw readers into
the story from the outset.
Overall, crafting an introduction to a narrative essay is a challenging endeavor that demands
creativity, precision, and an understanding of narrative techniques. It requires careful planning,
drafting, and revising to ensure that the introduction effectively sets the stage for the narrative to
unfold while engaging and captivating the reader.

| TMH Assignment| Spring 2010| | Bella SongYi Wang| 3/2/2010| Background This
memorandum is presented in order to assess the risk Triangle Manufactured Homes
(TMH) is engaged in. To assess the risk, we have thoroughly gone through the
Company s annual report and selected analyses of its financial condition and results
of operations. These analyses have become the base of the level of risks that we
determine TMH is exposed of. Business Analysis According to the Company s annual
report, TMH is a business that engages in the retailing of manufactured homes. It is
one of the leading players in the manufactured homes industry, representing about 45
percent of the total U.S. market. Operating a total of 114 retail sales... Show more

Through the acquisitions, TMH is not only benefiting from the deepening market
penetration in its existing markets, but also from entering into the new markets.
Moreover, the acquisition of manufacturing facilities, albeit it is in the retailing
business, prepares TMH for the periods when demand for homes outpaces supply,
which would mostly occur between March and October. In order to maintain its
role as a leader in the industry and to create its competitive advantage, the
manufacturing facilities are also planned to be used for manufacturing custom
designed homes that will help satisfy customers with special needs. In addition,
TMH pays more than industry average to attract and maintain its employees, which
helps the Company to stay in a leadership role. TMH has also established its wholly
owned subsidiary TMH Financial Services Corp. to expedite completion of credit
approval processes for other subsidiaries and independent retailers. In addition, TMH
Financial will collect installment sales contracts executed at the subsidiary or
independent retailer level and sell them to third party financial institutions with
recourse. This process of selling installment sales to outside parties is one of TMH s
major sources of income. Accounting Analysis In addition to understanding a
company s business and its environment, in depth knowledge of its accounting
policies and disclosure practices also help assess
Silkwood
The story of one of the most famous worker s compensation cases, Karen Silkwood
vs. Kerr McGee, was the inspiration for hundreds of articles, several books,
televisions shows, and a movie. In the early 1970s, Silkwood worked as a lab
analyst in an Oklahoma Kerr McGee plant which manufactured plutonium pins used
as fuel for nuclear reactors (The Karen Silkwood Story, 2004).. Plutonium, a
radioactive chemical element, is known to be highly toxic and carcinogenic.
Silkwood, an elected union official and outspoken critic of Kerr McGee s health and
safety practices, began collecting and recording information to substantiate her
charges that employees at the plant were dangerously exposed to toxic chemicals. In
early November 1974, Silkwood was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If cancer is developed from a radiation exposure on the job, the workers
compensation law would cover it. However, the contamination resulted in hysteria
and fear in Silkwood in which she required medical treatment and examination. The
Workers Compensation Act required reimbursement for medical attention from job
related accidents (Walsh p 496). Silkwood had missed time from work during
testing, and she incurred medical expense which was respectfully for paid by Kerr
McGee. But even if she had not, work time loss and medical expense are not
necessary requisites to finding an injury is exclusively covered by workers
compensation. The court concluded they made a mistake in not ruling that the issue
of personal injury must be determined under the Workers Compensation Act. The
disposition on this issue eliminated the need to discuss the sufficiency of the
evidence and other arguments relating to the amount of damages for personal injury
and the fairness of the trial on that aspect of the case. It is somewhat unclear how
Kerr McGee determined that the federal regulation of nuclear energy prevents
application of the workers compensation law for injuries on the job. The existence
here of significant damage to Silkwood s personal property in her apartment required
the court to consider additional issues recognized in the appeal. In conclusion, the
Workers Compensation Act applies only to
Gambling Is An Intriguing Human Activity
Gambling is an intriguing human activity. It changes individuals in many ways
and continues to develop increasingly since gambling was introduced. Gambling
has been a form of entertainment for many more years than it seems. During the
year of 1497, John Cabot found a native population who played a bunch of games
of chance . ( Gambling 101 ) Unfortunately, around 1892, all gambling activities
were banned by the Canadian criminal code. ( Gambling 101 ) As the years went
by, the rules became less strict, which gave the chance for numerous forms of
gambling to become legal. Since then, the growth and significance has highly
increased, it has even transformed into a popular pastime. ( Gambling 101 ) In
1989, Winnipeg was the first province in Canada to have a permanent casino (
Gambling 101 ). Within a small period of 14 years, 76 facilities were built which
offered gambling activities such as slot machines and even game tables. ( Gambling
101 ) Gambling has become an addictionwhich has been shown by many symptoms
and brought many negative impacts to people s lives. Thankfully, there has been
many ways of recovery found for this addiction.
The addiction of gambling doesn t come in any which way. Since everyone loves
winning, gambling can make certain individuals feel great. During the first try of
gambling, many people have beginners luck which is when some people start to
believe that their winning streak has begun. As a result, gamblers start spending a

The Three Battles In Beowulf
I m writing this essay on the three different battles in the epic called Beowulf . I m
going to be explaining the differences between the battles and the different weapons
Beowulf uses as well as the trophies he won after each battle. He wins all three
battles, but each one is different in its own way.
Battle with Grendel
The first battle is with a human/ creature combination named Grendel . Grendel has
human qualities, but has super human strength and extraordinary speed. Grendel is
responsible for killing thirty soldiers in one night by himself. Hrothgar ,the king of
the danes, calls upon Beowulf for help. Beowulf comes to help defeat this monster.
Beowulf and his men stay in the mead hall that night waiting for Grendel to come.

After Grendel goes back to his home he dies shortly. His mother furious seeked
revenge on the man who killed her son. Grendel s mother went to the mead hall

monster calls once more upon Beowulf. Beowulf gears up in a mail shirt, his
sword, and his helmet and heads to the Lake where the monster lives. He dives in
the lake and is clutched by the monster. The monster trying to dig her claws into him
couldn t harm him. She then carried him sword and all to her home. She carried him
to her home and there the battled in someone s battle hall with monsters surrounding

monster but couldn t cut her skin. Later in the battle he was running out of options

magic. He drew it up and took a swing with all the strength he had left. The sword cut
through her skin, broke bones, and the monster fell to the
The Death And Life Of Great American Cities By Jane
Jacobs
Recently I read a book titled The Death and Life of Great American Cities written
by Jane Jacobs (1961), which basically criticizes the urban planning processes
generally employed in the planning, renovation and rebuilding of cities. Though it
was published in 1961, the book is still considered a relevant piece of work and
offers great insight to the various and sometimes ignored or unseen facets of the way
a cityorganizes itself despite the city planning process. The book is considered
many professionals involved in the planning and design of cities a must read even
today. In the book, Jacob s states that she has identified four criteria which must be
present in an urbanized environment for it to be place which will naturally promote
a self sustaining, and resilient socioeconomic character. The set of the four criteria
can be used a framework and a tool that will aid the planning process of the new
urbanism. The wave of change to be more sustainable is gaining some steam at
present in Phoenix. Which is a relatively large (7 million people) in the
metropolitan area which is located in the southwest United states. The City of
Phoenix is my employer and where I currently reside. Therefore, it must be said,
that my conclusion s may have some element of bias in them even though I will
make a very concerted effort to avoid it. I expect that my evaluation of the presence
or absence of the four criteria will provide a point of reference which can be used to

Comparing Spinster And Mad Girl s Love Song
The chirping of birds, the fragrant scent of flowers, and the unfurling buds on trees
could be peaceful picture to some. Others may view it as disconcertingly chaotic.
The flushed cheeks and beating heart of love could be magical and beautiful. Others
see it as a destructive anxiety. In Mad Girl s LoveSong , Sylvia Plath uses villanelle
form to convey how the speakers unfulfilled desire for happiness is driving her mad.
In Spinster , Plath communicates a person s desire for isolation and control over the
anxiety of emotions. In both poems, the juxtaposition of contrasting imageries
illustrate the poems meanings.
In both poems, contrasting images convey messages differing from their traditional
connotations to emphasize the poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to containing contrasting images, they also use various figurative and
musical devices to further emphasize their meanings. In Mad Girl s Love Song ,
the speaker describes her emotional state. When she opens her eyes to the absence
of her lover, the stars go waltzing out in blue and red, and arbitrary blackness
gallops in, I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead. Although the speaker s life
used to be filled with vivid colors and life, she is now unable to unshake the black
depression. Where there once was various colors now is the empty void of black,
arbitrary without any feeling. The personification of these colors demonstrate the
lack of control she has over her emotional state because these colors can
independently gallop and waltz in and out of her life. The emptiness that the
depression brings causes her to escape her emotional state and shut [her] eyes so
all the world drops dead . The repetition of the harsh d sound and all the world
drops dead create an ominous tone, alluding to a more tragic end suicide. While
the girl in Mad Girl s Love Song is trying to find positive emotions, the woman in
Spinster shys away from emotions in general. Her isolation is connected with war
as a barricade of barb and check against mutinous weather as no mere man could
hope to break with any curse, fist, threat, or love . The descriptions of barbed wire
and mutinous weather allude to warfare,
The Defense Of Defense Health Agency Essay
The Department of Defense has multiple components supporting our nation with
servicemen, servicewomen, and their dependents around the world and in support
of the United States of America. The healthcare of these individuals is a critical
mission for the United States of America. There was a time in recent history that
each component of the United States of America military was the responsibility of
each component of the armed services. Recently the United States of America
determined that the health care of the service members and their families need a
centralized health care agency. On October 1, 2013, the Defense Health Agency was
established. This research paper will discuss the primary role and purpose of the
Defense Health Agency and how it performs the critical mission of serving the health
needs of the Department of Defense. Company Description The Defense Health
Agency is a multi service, integrated military agency that enables the Army, Navy,
and Air Force to provide medical services and medically ready force to Combatant
Commands in both peacetime and wartime. The Defense Health Agency ensures the
delivery of integrated, affordable, and high quality health services to Military Health
System beneficiaries. The Defense Health Agency is responsible for driving greater
integration of clinical and business processes across the Military Health System. The

Arizona State University For The Fall 2016 Semester
Dear Hannah, Congratulations! You have been admitted to Arizona State
University for the fall 2016 semester. This was the beginning of the letter that I
received in the mail this past fall; though it was simply a letter, it was the
beginning of a new chapter in my life! To be a sun devil means to strive for
excellence, to give your all, to put your heart into your work, to never give up, to
excel in all you set out to do. I am extremely pleased to now officially be a student
of Arizona State University! When I first got the letter that I mentioned above
informing me that I had been accepted to ASU, my heart filled with pride and
anticipation as I realized how it felt to be a Sun Devil!

In ASU, my chosen major is Business Management through the William P. Carey
School of Business. I chose this major because of my love for communication,
leadership, and studies involving money. I really enjoy working with my dad who
owns his own business and I take pleasure in understanding all the different
processes within the business. Also, ever since I was a little girl, I have enjoyed
learning about the economy and money in general. Another reason I chose
business management was that it requires leadership, which has always been one
of my strong points. I have experience leading and people have told me I am good
at it though I know there is always plenty of room for improvement. I do know how
to follow, but I am a leader at heart. I truly enjoy managing various projects and
seeing them come together successfully. Because I think it is important as a student
seeking a degree in Business Management to feel comfortable in leadership
positions not only in the workplace, but also in other areas of life, one of the things I
am most proud of is the fact that leadership is one of my strengths.
Not only am I a leader, but in many ways, I am also an extrovert. Being with people
is something I truly enjoy and look forward to. I believe that the people close to
me know the real me because I tend to be a very open person. I am the type of
person who loves to laugh and spend time with my friends and family, but I am not
afraid to work hard when the time comes.

What do the red lines along the edge represent? What do the blue lines along the edge
represent?
The red lines along the edge represent the warm air rising, and the blue lines along
the edge represent the cold air falling.
What is the Coriolis Effect?
When air undergoes a deflection from it s path, and it is a result of earth s rotation.
Which way does the Coriolis Effect bend the winds in the Northern Hemisphere?
The wind bends in the Northern Hemisphere to the right.
Which way does the Coriolis Effect bend the winds in the Southern Hemisphere?
The wind bends in the Southern Hemisphere to the left.
What factors determine how much the winds bend?
Factors that determine how much the winds bend are the latitude and the speed the
air is moving at.
Which hemisphere is shown and which way are the winds bending?
The Northern Hemisphere is shown. The winds are bending to the right.
Do winds blow faster or slower in Florida compared to the equator? Explain why.
Winds blow slower in Florida compared to the equator. This is because Florida winds
only blow 930 mph, and it is because of the Coriolis effect (slower speed = slower
wind).
Which way do hurricanes and tornadoes spin in the Northern Hemisphere?
The Age Of Innocence By Edith Wharton
In Edith Wharton s novel, The Age of Innocence, the old New York society
accepted those who followed moral codes and dreaded hearing those who did not.
Growing up in a society that has strict rules and traditions in the 1800 s, Wharton
wrote books about this time period and how characters were affected by these
societal rules and traditions. Edith Wharton grew up in New York Cityand spent most
her life there. She met her husband, Edward Wharton there and continued writing
other novels as well. Later on, she divorced him, but had two men who were
significant in her life. Jennifer Bussey and Jennifer Hynes suspect these were her
lovers and this moment in her life, with judgement and society against her, this
information was put into her novels. Since she is raised in a judgemental society, she
...soon learned manners and traditions of society life that would characterize her
fiction ( Age 2). As seen in The Age of Innocence, Newland Archer and Ellen
Olenska are having an affair, but their ways of thinking and decisions are altered by
society. The other characters around them are judgemental and have to follow
specific moral codes.
Most characters in The Age of Innocence understand society s expectations and
Newland Archer is one of them. He is a man of society of the social old New York
society. He understands and demonstrates the society etiquette and rules. Archer is
changed throughout the novel though because of New York s social codes (Bussey

Stonehenge Remains One of Our Greatest Mysteries Essay
Stonehenge, a prehistoric stone circle, remains one of the world s utmost mysterious
and archaic structures. Built over 4,000 years ago in Salisbury Plain, scientists and
theorists alike are still in the dark as to why Stonehenge was built. Popular belief is
that it was used for religious purposes and that it was constructed by the Druids or
even the Romans, but the theory was disproved when it was confirmed that the
beginning of Stonehengeconstruction started at least 2000 years before the Celts
came. I, on the other hand, believe that Stonehenge operated for scientific or
astronomical reasons such as being used as an astronomical calendar and two
centuries after being built it was utilized for its healing abilities. Over the course...

Now the monument at first was used for astrological reasons, but after two centuries
the arrival of some special rocks formed the monument into the unique and unusual
structure we see today. Timothy Darvill and Geoffrey Wainwright were the leading
pair in an excavation of the inner circle of the Stonehenge, and what they discovered
in 2006 shed some new light as to what Stonehenge was used for after the
construction of the inner circle. Bluestones, the rocks that make up the inner circle,
were the special rocks they found, and they came from a site called Carn Menyn in
mountainous southwest Wales which is almost 140 miles away from SalisburyPlain.
Many scientists still wonder how the ancient people transported the rocks to their
cuurent location, but the fact they moved it so far means that it was for an
important reason. The site Carn Menyn had altered springheads adorned with
prehistoric art and Darvill and Wainwright said, You get springs that have funny
things done to them in the Roman and Iron Age periods, but to see it done in the
prehistoric period is rare, so we knew we were on to something, (Jones, New Light
on Stonehenge ). They could tell that since there was prehistoric art surrounding this
site, it had to mean something special to the people that used it. The ancients
believed that the bluestones at Carn Menyn had special powers so it made sense for
them to make
Essay on Ethics and the Advancement of Military
Technology
I. Introduction:
Technology in the light of military weaponry has been one of the growingly
controversial issues that the world faces today. Among the top weapon types that
have advanced greatly over the past recent years are nuclear, chemical and biological
weaponry. Though the United States government and militaryhas been
enthusiastically involved in the evolution of these weapons, their enthusiasm
dwindles when responsibility must be taken for the consequences that result.
Consequences that are left unresolved or postponed only bring about more doubts
and questions that all branch off of one basic issue: Is it ethical to continue the
advancement of nuclear, chemical and biological warfare when the results cannot be

Nuclear powered weapons have been tested in nearly any surroundings possible:
underground, underwater, on top of towers and barges, and even fired by rockets
200 miles into the atmosphere.7 These tests have also been carried out in multiple
sites in the United States, such as Nevada, New Mexico, Mississippi, Colorado and
Alaska.7 But though the last weapon test was held over a decade ago by China, an
estimate of 3,830 kilograms of plutonium has been left in the ground, and 4,200
kilograms has been released into the atmosphere due to the great number of nuclear
testing around the world.7
In comparison to nuclear weaponry, using chemicals as a weapon can be dated
back to 400 BC. when the Spartan Greeks used sulfur fumes against the soldiers of
their enemies. Of course, what is today known as modern chemical warfare did not
begin until 1915 during World War I.1 The first chemical used in warfare was 160
tons of chlorine gas, which the Germans released into the wind against their allies
using 6,000 pressurized cylinders.1 This chemical killed over 10,000 troops within
its first and second attack by forming a yellowish liquid in the lungs of the victims
and causing burning in the
Private Security Officer
There have been many cases that discuss private security officers getting both civil
and criminally liable for their action. Private security officials do not go through a
lot of training before getting hired by a security company. Some security company
like Allied Barton security services security officers undergo an eight and sixteen
hours training to obtain a security guard license before getting hired by the company.
After Allied Barton selecting their candidates, they the candidates then go through
an eight hours in service training to learn more about the job (Allied Barton Jobs,
2015). These training are not enough for security officers especially with the current
threats that is within our economy. The lack of training that private security officials
received is not enough to effectively perform their duties. Security officer deals with
the public on a regular basis. There have been many cases where security officers
violate someone rights. Most private security officers go outside their training to
perform a job they was not trained to do and ended up getting themselves in trouble.

When it comes to civil liability, private security officers can be held reliable in civil
court for their actions. When it comes down to the private security industry, the
constitutional requirements of the 4th, 5th, 6th and 14th Amendments do not apply.
Those requirements are only for the public law enforcement agencies. The Fourth
Amendment only applies when a search or seizure is made by a government agent
or official. State and local police officers, agents from the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, and Border Patrol Agents are good examples. In other words, searches
and seizures made by private citizens aren t covered by the Fourth Amendment

Role Of Servants In Volpone
The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In
Jonson s city comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters
greed and egocentrism in order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other
hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted,
reliable and helpful to their masters.
To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog
eat dog, antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where
everything is commodified. In other words, it is a society that is governed only by
greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his characters are greedy for power, money,
food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonson s connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in
Volpone recall animals, insects or birds. For example Volpone means fox in
Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In that sense, Volpone draws from a tradition of
Aesopian beast fables. Jonson wants to create an allegory of greed and also
emphasizes that social and religious principles yield to greed and avarice; human
beings are reduced to the level of beasts and lose their elevated status.
Therefore, Volpone is a magnifico, a noble man of the Venetian Republic, clever but
totally selfish and lustful whose only purpose in life is to accumulate gold. He is so
materialistic that not only has he replaced God with gold, but he also worships his
gold as his God. He always tries to deceive and take advantage of other people,
usually naive characters. His servant Mosca (which is an Italian word used to
describe a kind of fly that is fed on dead meat) is a parasite. A parasite does not hunt,
does not work in order to survive. Similarly, Mosca is a human being who is lazy,
who does not struggle in order to acquire a livelihood. Mosca is also very clever and
canny. He is absolutely necessary for Volpone, because he is the one who can put his

The Heros Journey In Shrek And The Hero s Journey
A movie is more than just a story. A movie sparks imagination. A movie displays
the hero s journey. Shrek, a movie known to most children as well as adults, is about
an ogre who goes on an adventure. The adventure is very remarkable in the world of
fantasy and unquestionably demonstrates the baseline of all stories, the hero s
journey. Shrekundoubtedly shows the stages of a hero s journey throughout the
entire movie series as well as vital information needed for the person watching the
film to feel the passions that the main character feels during the duration of the
movie. In the hero s journey, the hero or main character goes through a series of
events. The first stage of the hero s journey is the ordinary world. In the movie
Shrek, Shrek lives in a vacant swamp, living without a relationship with the outside
world. He enjoys the peacefulness of living by himself, until he is no longer by
himself. Lord Farquaadsends fairy tale creatures to exile on Shrek s swamp, ruining
the way Shrek lives his life at home. Shrek leaves to go to the Lord s castle. He is
then told that to get his precious swamp back, he needs to rescue Princess Fiona. This
is Shrek s call to adventure. Shrek is a willing hero. This is shown when Shrek
states he would do anything to get his swamp back. He willingly left as fast as he
could, so he could return back to his old way of life. Shrek leaves his ordinary
world when he leaves his house, then goes to the Lord s castle. Shrek leaves the
Lord s castle sets his way out to the castle which encases Princess Fiona. Donkey,
Shrek s mentor, helps Shrek throughout his tests. Shrek s enemy is prevailed as
soon as the movie starts. Shrek s rival would be Lord Farquaad because he wishes
to only marry the princess, so he can be a monarch. The earliest test would be
where Shrek goes against the Lord s men in a fight. This is where the Lord decided
Shrek s expedition. Without Donkey, Shrek would have never found the Lord s
castle. Shrek proceeds to go through another test. He must rescue Princess Fiona from
the highest room in the tallest tower, without dying from the dragon or the lava that

Online Identity Theft
Online Identity Theft What is identity? The word itself can have so many
connotations, definitions, and subjects tied to it. However, the most basic definition
of our identity would be the qualities, beliefs, and baggage that make up each person.
An identity is something that each of us have a claim to from the moment we are

basic claim is now threatened. We have all heard about crime on the streets but with
the creation of social networking websites, online shopping, and just interaction

avoidable, as thieves become more skilled soon there will be no way of protecting
ourselves. However, if we begin now through the careful use of censorship, online
identity theft can be stopped in it tracks.
How can we use censorship to protect ourselves? People often pause at the word
censorship. We often come to think of it as squelching our rights, or placing a limit
on our freedom of expression. However, in reflect of recent arising issues,
censorship is the smartest and most reliable form to protect ourselves. Although
censorship of certain websites may protect us, as the threat becomes greater, we
must go to greater lengths. In response to peer to peer sharing, by placing censorship
on these types of websites, we can protect up to 22 million users from harmful theft.
Although peer to peer file sharing is important to many people, there are many other
methods which can keep you protected and get the job done just as well. These
include email, usb methods, and
Boo Radley Character Analysis Essay
The Jurassic Change Of Boo Radley Boo was about six and a half feet tall, judging
from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that s why
his hands were bloodstained if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the
blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had
were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time. (Lee 16)
In the novel to kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses characterization of Boo to show
that at the beginning of the book he was misunderstood and unknown but he later
changed into a character that was known as a hero. One kid explained him as a
ghost that was never seen in the beginning of the book, but this view would soon
change. Boo Radley who was known to be an extremely mysterious ghost in the city

Pollution In African Pollution
Kate Galbraith, A journalist, released an article covering the condition and to what
extent africa s pollution is currently at. The article was released by The New York
Times on April 2014. It starts off by telling us how an air quality scientist was testing
the air. The machine that was created in Arizona was man to calculate the amount of
pollutionin the air. While testing the air in Ouagadougou the machine clogged and
was sent back to the United States of America for repair. Galbraith continued on
how things such as vehicle exhaust, dusty roads to even cooking with woods, also
known as inside pollution, all contribute to the worrisome problem altogether.
Health was now becoming a problem as dirty air can cause heart disease, stroke, and
cancer and was third highest level of deaths per capita from indoor air pollutionof any
region of the world said Galbraith. Ms.Linden, until 2007 did research on Burkina
Faso, said that one of the major outdoor sources of air pollution was Industrial
Activities when the population in Ouagadougou swell by 50%. In this Article things
such as the machine to calculate air pollution malfunctioned while on trial in an
african country. Kate also included how industrial activities played a big part in
outdoor pollution sources. Galbraith kept a very informative tone throughout the
article as she explained the situations and how it was being measured. I believe that
Galbraith was great in giving detail and going into depth in how the problem was

The Fourth Industrial Revolution And Its Impact On The...
The Fourth Industrial Revolution builds on the Digital Revolution, representing new
ways in which technology becomes embedded within societies and even the human
body. Industry 4.0 introduces what has been called the smart factory, in which cyber
physical systems monitor the physical processes of the factory and make
decentralized decisions. The physical systems become Internet of Things,
communicating and cooperating both with each other and with humans in real time
via the wireless web. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the pillars in Industrial
revolution 4.0. The Internet of Things involves connecting the internet to everyday
items in order for them to send, receive and process data. This can lead to a decrease
in production time, aid risk management and will save manufacturers valuable
resources such as time and money. Electronic tattoois a device under Internet of
Things in health care. Electronic tattoo is the device which is thinner than a human
hair, to monitor vital signal. The reason they re called tattoos is that their application
is similar to those in children s fake tattoos. It usually starts out on a sheet of plastic,
is then applied to the skinand rubbed on from outside the plastic, then the plastic is
peeled away, leaving only a very thin, rubber patch that has a layer of flexible
silicon wires. With the tattoo, all the electronic parts are built out of wavy, snake like
components, which mean they can cope with being stretched and squeezed. There are
also tiny solar cells which can generate power or get energy from electromagnetic
radiation.
In addition to sensors, the electronics package can contain wireless networking
capability, so they can not only convey sensor data easily, but also be controlled from
a remote computer or smartphone. It functions as wearable electronic devices and
replace traditional medical devices like heart monitors and provide higher quality
data. For instance, smaller, less invasive sensors could be especially useful for
monitoring premature babies or for studying patients with sleep apnoea without them
wearing wires through the night.
While most of them are based on thin metal films, a silicon membrane, or
nanoparticle based printable inks, we report

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

coping skills. By examining this thought, I will help to explain that Children who

more resilient (DeBord: 2004). This research paper will answer the question with a
focus on resilience and coping: Do children who play pretend have higher coping

Resilience and Coping
Research has expanded to focus on educationally or academically resilient children
those who succeed in school despite the stresses of poverty and inadequate
childrearing conditions (Kitano: 2005). Debord (2004) extensively discusses this
concept of resiliency.5 Despite the stresses of poverty and inadequate living
conditions, Sara demonstrated her ability to generate positive coping strategies thus
preserving her dignity. Burnett provides the reader an understanding of resiliency
when Sara says, Whatever comes cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags
and tatters, I can be a princess inside (108). What attributed to Sara s observed
resilience was her ability to find hope in thinking through her situations out of her
imaginary discussions with Emily and her suppose critical thinking strategies.
Relatively, a modern day Sara would be considered as an at risk youth. According
to Kitano, a resilience approach would similarly serve especially well the needs of
beggar children such as Anne or the house servant Becky of whom experienced
hardship. At risk would include gifted children such as Sara and youth living in
poverty or in circumstances of abuse and neglect like Becky or Anne. Doyle (2001)
Essay On Sallust, Catiline s War
Classics 201: Dr. T. Rose Parth Patel Topic #3: Sallust, Catiline s War In this paper,
I will discuss the historic events of a Roman coup as written by Gaius Sallustius
also known as Sallust. Early Rome, according to Sallust s best knowledge, was built
by two groups of people, exiled Trojan soldiers under Aeneas and native aborigines
without government or law. For a time after the founding of this settlement, they
prospered and no ill intents of human nature toward another were found. As the city
continued to grow in wealth, size, and number it was soon the envy of neighboring
kingdoms who were wrought with greed. The Romans having held ground and won
these neighboring kingdoms through battle, established a city founded on monarchy
law and created allies with nearby kingdoms. After the seed of tyrannical rule was
developed Rome changed government and appointed two rulers with annual power,
the king and the senate. Now as Rome was under new command of the usurper Sulla
the Roman army, for the first time, indulged in women, drink, material wealth, and
riches. Now these plagues of sin have taken hold of young romans and continued their
destructive paths to conquer the minds of all Rome. This was the setting for Sallust s
history about the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The false aspects were of Sallust s account of Catiline s demeaner and his internal
workings. He claimed Catiline to be evil but Sallust writes about how he was
fighting for freedom for the poor and the elimination of mass accrued debts. The
true respects are that he employed the evil in his army and that he started this
rebellion because of his own shortcomings. I believe Catiline to be noble but also
corrupt, he is a man of both yin and yang but the dark is overpowering the light as
time passes. We can trust Sallust in his recounts and we can also say that Catiline was
a legitimate threat to the

Analysis Of Dennis Prager s Poverty Doesn T Cause Crime
Crime is a symptom of poverty, not the cause. Although it would be easier to place
the blame of crime onto those plagued with poverty, the real problem is the system
that lacks the tools to properly control income disparity amongst the rich and the
poor, provide fair welfare reform for low income families and create laws that
positively affect the homeless. All of the government s failures are the true cause of
crime, not the people affected.
In Dennis Prager s article, Poverty Doesn t Cause Crime, he equates material
possessions to the lack of poverty in poor households. I disagree with Prager s idea
that having items that are essential for survival or daily life is a means to dismiss
the income disparity that impacts the impoverished. In class, we discussed the
divergence of family income from the 1970 s and onward from postwar decades. A
chart was shown that illustrated the loss of shared affluence amongst rich families
and poor families. At the beginning of the 1970 s, income began to increase for the
top percentile of the income spectrum and decreased for the middle and bottom. This
growth of inequality shifted income gain away from low income families; thus,
increasing poverty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To say impaired moral behavior is the reason for crime is to understate the root of
the problem. Steve Macek makes a reference to the Welfare Reform of 1996 Act in
his video about the demonization of the urban poor. This act put a limit on the
lifetime assistance an individual could receive and was meant to reduce the
dependence of the impoverished on the federal government (Macek, Demonizing the
Inner City Ideology and the Urban Poor Capitalism Needs Poverty ). Moral
behavior is not the problem, it s the power of capitalism that is against the needs of
the poor. Prager shifts the conversation to moral behavior without having any real

Discuss James representations of places for women in his novels.
There is an impressive range of female characters in Henry James fiction. Drawn to
the world of wealth and leisure as a subject, a world which was at the same time,
ironically the context for his own hermetic labours as a writer, James perhaps
inevitably came to concentrate on the feminine. Correspondingly, most of his male
characters seem to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme so early recognised as particularly James own was the international one,
and the expression of this theme pivoted around the figure of the American girl.
The critic W.D. Howells (1958 P.63) credited James with being the inventor of the
International American girl . The American girl, as she appears in James early
stories and novels is independent, moral, free, innocent, and her attractiveness is
either delicate or of a pale and rather asexual kind. In her less refined or serious form,
she may be ignorant, brash or simply naГЇve. She is, of course, as always unmarried.
In using the American girl as central to his exploration of the interaction of American
and European society, it was not at first in the girl herself that James placed the
distinguished American moral consciousness, and when she was endowed

by it, and this is the reason

Herbert Hoover was born on the 10th of August 1874 in West Branch, Iowa. He
grew up in Oregon and was one of the first students to attend Stanford University
when it opened in 1891. Hoover graduated from Stanford with a major in geology
and utilized his education to start a career as a mining engineer. People do not
easily remember Hoover and he is often overlooked when it comes to U.S. history
textbooks. When people speak of Herbert Hoover, they most likely remember him as
an economic Satan , as his Presidency occurred during the first four years of the
Great Depression. Hoover served as the thirty first president of the United States
from 1929 to 1933. Before becoming President, he married Lou Henry, on
February 10, 1899. The couple honeymooned in China where Hoover ended up
taking a job as a mining consultant. Shockingly enough, Hoover built a successful
career as lead engineer for a private mining corporation that worked for the Chinese
emperor. For a month of time that the Hoovers lived in China, their settlement was
under heavy fire during the Boxer Rebellion. During this rebellion, Hoover helped
his local community by building barricades around their city and even risked his life
by saving Chinese children. He became very wealthy from mining the coal in China
and later moved to lead the

The World Business Council For Sustainable Development

Since the global financial crisis in 2008, the society s trust in organizations has
suffered a great loss due to the irresponsible actions of the organization. As the
organizations are entrusted significant power among the society, people are
increasingly care about the behavior of the organization, in other words, the society
consider the organizations should take the responsibility to make an effort to improve
the society, environment and economic. For example, the World Business Council for
Sustainable Development (WBCSD) has outlined several environmental issues and
has provided suggestions to corporations in terms of not exhausting the natural
resources. Due to the increasingly consciousness of the whole world, this essay is
focused on two main questions: Why some corporations are not willing to take
corporate social responsibilityand why should they take the it? Then, how can we
measure an organization s performance in terms of social responsibility?
There are quite a lot theories related to corporate social responsibility, and enlightened
self interest theory and managerial stakeholder theory are two major theories that
prevent the corporation from taking their social responsibility. Enlightened self
interest theory held the opinion that corporate social responsibility will be taken and
only will be taken when the corporation can be benefited by the activity and
shareholders value can be increased, and this theory inevitably has a great impact on

Delta Airlines Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report provides an examinaion of the current structure, performance, stragergy
and management of Delta Airlines, along with an industry analysis of the airline
industry. The report uses current and past financial and statistical data for the
company along with other up to date material to determine Delta s current market
position and future potential.
The report finds that Delta Airlines has successfully emerged from its bankruptcy in
2005 to report successful returns in both 2007 and 2008. With its 2008 acquisition of
Northwest Airlines Delta became the world s largest airline, further improving its
position in the airline industry. Despite this current positive position report also finds

The Northwest brand is gradually being phased out and being replaced by Delta s
name and brand. During the integration period, Delta and Northwest will continue to
operate their own branded aircraft until the integration process is complete. This has
given delta a combined market share of approximately 18% (Gayle, 2008)
Effects of Market Structure
In the United States there are generally two types of airlines: legacy carriers, which
are defined as airlines that specifically operated interstate routes prior to the Airline
Deregulation Act of 1978, and low cost airlines that compete solely on the basis of
offering the lowest price per ticket within the market in which they are operating
Market conduct
Market structure can be defined as patterns of behaviour by enterprises in an effort
to adjust to the markets in which they operate (buy or sell). Pricing strategies and
collusive behaviour mergers are a few dimensions of market conduct. It is the
industry norm for a legacy carrier to offer service to most popular destinations;
Delta reducing routes to a similar schedule as the low cost airlines is not an option
in the multi billion dollar industry. In order to gain market share from low cost
airlines, Delta must create a value proposition that differentiates itself from its
competitors. Many customers will pay a premium if the level of service provided is
higher than the low cost, no frills
Notes On The Rise Ra Out Of The Horizon
I chisel away at the limestone; I am writing on a tablet. It reads Rise Ra out of the
horizon . I was ordered by Pharaoh Khafre to make this tablet, it will be soon used
in a temple to honor the great god of the sun, Ra. Pharaoh Khafre worships Ra more
than any other Pharaoh we have had in the past. He is trying to ensure that there is
harmony between people and nature. He plans to build a great monument for us to
worship the god Rain. A great pyramid is in the works of being built as well, this
pyramid will be similar to his father Pharaoh Khufus and will be his final resting
place. I am a scribe, meaning I know how to read and write in our language. My job
is to inscribe temples, tablets or any other thing I am asked to. These letters I am
writing are called hieroglyphics and we only use them when we talk to or about
the gods, they are a religious alphabet we use to honor them. Our everyday writing
is called hieratics and it is mainly used for business, administration and keeping
records on papyrus, our form of paper, it is reed flattened out. I do enjoy my job; I
am not dragging limestone for distances or slaving away building pyramids or
temples for our pharaoh. You could say that I am of a higher social division. I am
not a criminal nor am I severely poor, these people are our slaves. They break their
backs doing hard manual labor for our Pharaoh. There is also a group of citizens that
voluntarily do hard labor, these are not extremely poor but are not rich either.
The Two Sides of Uranium Essay
Introduction In today s day and age many people around the world have become
dependent on what seems like useless or needless things such as the internet and
television. This is one of the negative effects of science and the technology that
comes with it. Some of these technologies seem harmless, like cellphones and
computers, but it seems as the years progress people want more and more power,
literally and figuratively. The element uraniumis a perfect example; this element has
the power to do well in generating power for millions of people, and the power to do
wrong in nuclear warfare. The earth is made up of roughly 111 elements and
combinations thereof, but only around 90 of the elements occur naturally. In 1789

This is why uranium is so popular within the higher ups of countries, especially the
military.
It is not until recently that people have become dependent on this element, and not
necessarily for the good of it, and the world. There is an obsession with uranium
because of its unique properties. Uranium is extremely powerful because of its
radioactive properties and unstable nuclei, especially that of Uranium 235. It is able
to break down and release high frequency radiation through alpha and beta decay. It
is because of these characteristics that Uranium has such a craze on the population of
the world (Cox, 1995; Scerri, 2007). The properties of uranium allow people to
create powerful plants to produce electricity, and weapons strong enough to destroy
the world.
Nuclear Reactors Nuclear reactors were not originally built for electric purposes. In
fact, when these reactors were first built, their sole purpose was for research, and the
creation of the element plutonium which was to be used in nuclear warfare (Cox,
1995). Thankfully times have changed, to a certain extent, and the nuclear reactors
are used for electrical purposes, and other powering supplies only (Cox, 1995).
Nuclear reactors can be found world wide especially in France, as well as in Japan.
Britain and American Influence on Australian Pop Culture...
The Influence of American and British Popular Culture on Australia in the 1950s
In the 1950s America and Britain influenced Australia s popular culture in a number
of ways. Although Australia s national identity is evident in every part of popular
culture, America and Britain both had a significant impact on the development of
Australian culture since World War Two. Throughout out the decade they changed
the way people thought about Australian fashion, music and entertainment. Fashion
was based around celebrity images and American cinema and television became a big

Without a Cause inspired young men to follow punk style fashion trends. Wearing
blue jeans, a white t shirt, and a leather jacket became popular around this time, and
it was causing a generation of young men to change their attitudes. This trend
became a symbol of teenage rebellion for boys everywhere. However, not all boys
were following this punk style of fashion. Many were leaning more towards the
British styles and trends, including the teddy boy style, which consisted of high

often used American accents to make their products seem appealing and modern to
young audiences. The vinyl record played a huge part of music in the 1950s because

Essay about Maximizing Production in the Food Industry
Introduction
One of the most important management activities in today s economy is to improve
performance, especially labor productivity, because almost every manufacturing
process involves human work. Not only the physical work, but also the mental
manpower is crucial to achieve the objectives of the organization. Increased
productivity includes greater motivation, personal participation and better
performance of work in the foodservice organization. For institutional food service,
improving labor productivity can be more challenging because of budget pressure and
strict regulations. Many studies have been done on working environment,
management skills, vocational training and so on. Some general management skills,
such as vocational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) recorded the degree and
intensity of training activities in the firm they studied; and it was the key feature in
this study, because CVST solved the arguments of adding up a variety of economic
activities with wide differences in terms of capital or labor intensity (Sala Silva,
2012). Besides CVTS, intensity in research and development, job training process,
degree of capitalization, and general education were also considered as factors in
their calculation model, so the conclusion was able to apply to other general
professions.
Accordingly, human capital is also important for food service industry and it can
promote economic growth dramatically. The result of study from Sala and Silva can
be applied to food service industry as well. Proper vocational training before and
during the employment can definitely increase labor productivity. Training for new
employees, such as food safety, skills of handwashing, policy and skills of using
certain machines, will help new employees to fit in work quickly and reduce the
chances of operational error. Based on what we learned in class, improvements in
design and operation of kitchen equipment is one of the applications of productivity
improvement. Continued vocational training can inform employees the updated
information about computerized machines, menu, new policy and regulations and
customers feedback as well.
Race And Ethnicity, Racial, Ethnic, And Race
A persons racial views stem from a cluster of many various opinions related to one s
culture, religion, gender, ethnic, and race. This mindset is built off of ones delusions
because there is no such thing as a pure race. So by someone gathering a conclusion
from any of these personal characteristics is just absurd. However, raceand ethnicity
are also ideologies. The shape ways of seeing and understanding the world around
us. Race and ethnicity can deem you as one belonging to a group, or as an outsider,
Racism places a negative impact on society as a whole. One theoretical aspect

This perspective takes on the conclusion that if any aspects of social life is deemed
unwanted, then it is not passed on to the next generation. Most racist who carry on in
this type of thinking belief that they are part of a superior race, and other races are
deemed unworthy sharing the same rights. People who think like this use this
theology as justification to why they contribute in their racist acts. This mindset reels
them to unconsciously and subconsciously do horrid acts of discrimination in order
to intimate others from challenging their superiority.
Lastly, the third theoretical aspect when it comes to racism is the Labeling Theory.
This theory revolves around stereotypes. The definition for stereotypes can be
noted as an unreliable generalizations about all members of a group without taking
individual differences into account. The whole labeling theory is based on how
certain people are viewed as deviant, while others who engage in the same behavior
are not. An example would be a scenario when two people from two different social
classes can commit the same act. One is severally punished for their actions, while
the other receives little if no discipline for their actions.
This type of situation places a negative impact on the community in many ways. It
allows people with power to falsely condemned people based on false stereotypes.
This places dividing settlements between both the

International Infrastructure Project Cost Estimating Work Breakdown Paul Hewitt,
International Project Estimating Limited Introduction Construction Cost Estimating
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) The term WBS has become a common term in
all fields related to Cost Engineering including Construction Cost Estimating,
Scheduling and Project Cost Control. A well defined WBS is the backbone of good
Construction Estimating Software and can take several forms including the
breakdown of items within an estimate, the layout of groups within a schedule or the
rollup of accounts within a cost report. It usually starts with a client s desire to
breakdown a tender into definable pay items, followed by the project manager s wish
to schedule activities of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The current CSI MasterFormat в„ў 2004 Edition [1] comes closest to covering all the
scope of work found in the construction of Building Facilities and Site Work. It falls
short in addressing the unique requirements of estimators, schedulers and cost
engineers in identifying all phases of work included in major Infrastructure work
such as Build Own and Transfer (BOT) projects. This Standard Work Breakdown
attempts to format the project into a multi level WBS suited to estimate, schedule,
track cost and measure performance on international infrastructure projects. The
breakdown is also designed to facilitate the data transfer of a standard work
breakdown between common estimating, scheduling and cost control software
applications. The International Infrastructure Project Work Breakdown Structure
(WBS) The following paragraphs outline the various sub projects and phases within
the Civil Infrastructure WBS. The Sub Projects within a Civil Infrastructure Project
Life Cycle Traditional work breakdown structures in the past have only identified the
Construction Divisions within a project. This proposed work breakdown includes all
phases within the life span of the project cycle, including Development, Engineering,
Operations, Maintenance, Transfer and Risk.

The Cosmic Race By Jose Vasconcelos
As we begin to go on an excursion through literature, it is important to understand
the concept of what an ethnography is. Ethnography is known to be a descriptive
type of work that analyzes culture and customs of individual people. James Clifford
has implemented this work into his studies and has influenced many others to do the
same. I saw through the books I have read, ethnography makes these books become
vivacious for a reader. In The Cosmic Race, by Jose Vasconcelos, he discusses
throughout the book about numerous races and emphasizes that the fifth raceknown to
be mestizo would overpower any race, and dominate the future. Although, throughout
the book he argues reasons why one race would be on top of the pyramid, he
contradicts himself numerous times in his arguments that leaves readers questioning,
and a little confused. His writing style is somewhat jumbled that it takes time to
grasp what he is trying to convey. Overall, it was a bizarre reading that it was hard
to grasp his ideas, and had my mind in a labyrinth. First, Vasconcelos mentions these
four main races; Mongols, blacks, whites, and Native Americans. Also, he states that
Latin Americans have begun interracial relationships that have created the mestizo or
a mixed race. In the reading, he mentions that mestizo races will slowly evanescent
white people from the top of the hierarchy or pyramid as the prominent race. He
quotes, Whites will try to take advantage of their inventions for
Olan The Virtuous Woman Essay
Olan or the Virtuous Woman, same person? Relatively close? Or just complete
opposites? Throughout the novel, The Good Earth Olan a slave woman with
unbound feet is wedded to Wang Lung a poor crop farmer. Olan is responsible for
many things in her marriage with Lung such as cooking and such, but she is a
right minded woman who does more than she is asked or told. She carries weight
on her shoulders and works her hardest even in times of struggle. Olan does not go
down easy, she s a worker and will not quit till the job done. So is Olan the Virtuous
Woman? Well of course she is, the closest thing to it! The Virtuous Woman is a
person who is worth far more than jewels and money, their worth is meaningful
through their love, care, respect, and hard work. They give their husbands a full
heart and show them that they need no spoiling for they are content and happy
with the life they are provided and are willing to put forth the same effort as the
other does. Olan is a perfect example of such a woman for she does more than she
is asked by pushing herself to the limits to provide her husband and show that she is
willing to be right there by his side... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Olan portrays these qualities greatly throughout the novel, even when she should
not. For example Olan is proud of the person she is and love s her life very much,
she values what she has, such as the land Lung was going to sell and she told him
not too, that their family would be fine. On the other hand, Wang Lung involves
himself with another woman named Lotus. Olan should be furious with this and
unkind, but she is not, she allows it to happen and continues to love and cherish her
husband, provide for him and work hard while ignoring it all. Olan may be the
Virtuous Woman but her husband takes advantage of this amazing blessing by not
giving to her what she has given to him, a loving, caring
The Cosmological Argument
The Cosmological Argument
An important argument to try and prove the existence of God is the Cosmological
Argument brought on by observations of the physical universe, made by Saint
Thomas Aquinas, a thirteenth century Christian philosopher. The cosmological
argument is a result from the study of the cosmos; Aquinas borrows ideas from
Aristotle to make this systematically organized argument. Aquinas first point begins
with the observation that everything is moving. Aquinas says that everything that
moves must be moved by another moving thing, which has to be moved by another
moving thing and so on. This cannot be infinite though, because consequently the
motion of the series would have no origin, and the origin of this series cannot ... Show

But David Hume, a Scottish philosopher, objected to Aquinas second point by
arguing that if each individual link in the chain of causes and motions can be
explained then there is no need for an additional explanation for the whole of the
chain. The explanation of each part is enough of an explanation for the whole itself.
But defenders say that the discovery of the Big Bang theory would be the beginning
of the causes and motions in the universe and is not infinite, so infinite regress would
not be possible.
A third objection to the cosmological argument as a whole is that Aquinas insists that
everything has a cause; if that is true, then what caused God? There being an
uncaused cause would be a contradiction to Aquinas whole argument that everything
has a cause yet God has no cause. But Aquinas defends his argument by saying that
only everything in our universe has a cause because everything in our universe is a
limited, dependent being. That still would require an uncaused, neither finite, nor
dependent being unlike anything in our universe, God. Critics also object that the
cosmological argument does not prove a loving and personal God, but Aquinas would
probably respond by stating that this wouldn t prove his argument is wrong, only that
it has a limited purpose. I think between the two arguments, Cosmological and
Ontological, the cosmological
Computer Graphics
Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the
representation and manipulation of image data by a computer. The development of
computer graphics has made computers easier to interact with, and better for
understanding and interpreting many types of data. Developments in computer
graphicshave had a profound impact on many types of media and have revolutionized
animation, movies and the video game industry.
Overview
The term computer graphics has been used in a broad sense to describe almost
everything on computers that is not text or sound . Typically, the term computer
graphics refers to several different things:

Another example is that Sutherland s software modeled objects not just a picture of
objects. In other words, with a model of a car, one could change the size of the tires
without affecting the rest of the car. It could stretch the body of the car without
deforming the tires.
These early computer graphics were vector graphics, composed of thin lines whereas
modern day graphics are Raster based using pixels.
Further 1960s developments
Also in 1961 another student at MIT, Steve Russell, created the first video game,
Spacewar. Written for the DEC PDP 1, Spacewar was an instant success and copies
started flowing to other PDP 1 owners and eventually even DEC got a copy. The
engineers at DEC used it as a diagnostic program on every new PDP 1 before
shipping it. The sales force picked up on this quickly enough and when installing new
units, would run the world s first video game for their new customers.
E. E. Zajac, a scientist at Bell Telephone Laboratory (BTL), created a film called
Simulation of a two giro gravity attitude control system in 1963.[5] In this computer
generated film, Zajac showed how the attitude of a satellite could be altered as it
orbits the Earth. He created the animation on an IBM 7090 mainframe computer.
Also at BTL, Ken Knowlton, Frank Sindon and Michael Noll started working in the
computer graphics field. Sindon created a film called Force, Mass and Motion
illustrating Newton s laws of motion in
Vacation Vs My Dream Vacation
My Typical Vacation vs. My Dream Vacation
I take a vacation every year, and every year it s the same thing a week of camping
at a campground one hour from our home. But I dream of a vacation in which I
take a cruise to some exotic location or stay at an all inclusive resort on an island
where I can be pampered and thrilled at the same time. Both of these vacations are
good, and both certainly offer me time away from work in which I can have a
respite from impending deadlines, a demanding boss, and grumbling clients. In
addition, both can even offer me the outdoor time soaking up the natural world my
spirit seems to need. And to be clear, family memories, which are so important to me,
can be made on both vacations. Yet, the differences between my dream vacation and
my typical camping vacation are distinct, which is why I still yearn for that dream
vacation that I have yet to take.
To begin with, both vacations are different in purpose. We go camping because it
is inexpensive; raising children costs money, and camping is an inexpensive yet
fun way for us to make family memories yet still afford things for the children like
nice clothes, extracurricular activities like football and piano lessons, and fun
activities like going bowling with friends. The cost of a camping vacation is
minimal, particularly if we use the same supplies year after year. We sleep on the
ground in a tent we have used for ten years. We cook our own food over a campfire,
and our daily

Silkwood The story of one of the most famous worker s compensation cases, Karen Silkwood vs. Kerr McGee, was the inspiration for hundreds of articles, several books, televisions shows, and a movie. It is somewhat unclear how Kerr McGee determined that the federal regulation of nuclear energy prevents application of the workers compensation law for injuries on the job. The existence here of significant damage to Silkwood s personal property in her apartment required the court to consider additional issues recognized in the appeal. In conclusion, the Workers Compensation Act applies only to

  • 26. The Fourth Industrial Revolution And Its Impact On The... The Fourth Industrial Revolution builds on the Digital Revolution, representing new ways in which technology becomes embedded within societies and even the human body. Industry 4.0 introduces what has been called the smart factory, in which cyber physical systems monitor the physical processes of the factory and make decentralized decisions. The physical systems become Internet of Things, communicating and cooperating both with each other and with humans in real time via the wireless web. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the pillars in Industrial revolution 4.0. The Internet of Things involves connecting the internet to everyday items in order for them to send, receive and process data. This can lead to a decrease in production time, aid risk management and will save manufacturers valuable resources such as time and money. Electronic tattoois a device under Internet of Things in health care. Electronic tattoo is the device which is thinner than a human hair, to monitor vital signal. The reason they re called tattoos is that their application is similar to those in children s fake tattoos. It usually starts out on a sheet of plastic, is then applied to the skinand rubbed on from outside the plastic, then the plastic is peeled away, leaving only a very thin, rubber patch that has a layer of flexible silicon wires. With the tattoo, all the electronic parts are built out of wavy, snake like components, which mean they can cope with being stretched and squeezed. There are also tiny solar cells which can generate power or get energy from electromagnetic radiation. In addition to sensors, the electronics package can contain wireless networking capability, so they can not only convey sensor data easily, but also be controlled from a remote computer or smartphone. It functions as wearable electronic devices and replace traditional medical devices like heart monitors and provide higher quality data. For instance, smaller, less invasive sensors could be especially useful for monitoring premature babies or for studying patients with sleep apnoea without them wearing wires through the night. While most of them are based on thin metal films, a silicon membrane, or nanoparticle based printable inks, we report

Debord (2004) extensively discusses this concept of resiliency.5 Despite the stresses of poverty and inadequate living conditions, Sara demonstrated her ability to generate positive coping strategies thus preserving her dignity. Burnett provides the reader an understanding of resiliency when Sara says, Whatever comes cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside (108). What attributed to Sara s observed resilience was her ability to find hope in thinking through her situations out of her imaginary discussions with Emily and her suppose critical thinking strategies. Rose Parth Patel Topic #3: Sallust, Catiline s War In this paper, I will discuss the historic events of a Roman coup as written by Gaius Sallustius also known as Sallust. Early Rome, according to Sallust s best knowledge, was built by two groups of people, exiled Trojan soldiers under Aeneas and native aborigines without government or law. For a time after the founding of this settlement, they prospered and no ill intents of human nature toward another were found. As the city continued to grow in wealth, size, and number it was soon the envy of neighboring kingdoms who were wrought with greed. The Romans having held ground and won these neighboring kingdoms through battle, established a city founded on monarchy law and created allies with nearby kingdoms. After the seed of tyrannical rule was developed Rome changed government and appointed two rulers with annual power, the king and the senate. Now as Rome was under new command of the usurper Sulla the Roman army, for the first time, indulged in women, drink, material wealth, and riches. Now these plagues of sin have taken hold of young romans and continued their destructive paths to conquer the minds of all Rome. This was the setting for Sallust s history about the... • 31. Analysis Of Dennis Prager s Poverty Doesn T Cause Crime Crime is a symptom of poverty, not the cause. Although it would be easier to place the blame of crime onto those plagued with poverty, the real problem is the system that lacks the tools to properly control income disparity amongst the rich and the poor, provide fair welfare reform for low income families and create laws that positively affect the homeless. All of the government s failures are the true cause of crime, not the people affected. In Dennis Prager s article, Poverty Doesn t Cause Crime, he equates material possessions to the lack of poverty in poor households. I disagree with Prager s idea that having items that are essential for survival or daily life is a means to dismiss the income disparity that impacts the impoverished. In class, we discussed the divergence of family income from the 1970 s and onward from postwar decades. A chart was shown that illustrated the loss of shared affluence amongst rich families and poor families. It is able to break down and release high frequency radiation through alpha and beta decay. It is because of these characteristics that Uranium has such a craze on the population of the world (Cox, 1995; Scerri, 2007). Nuclear Reactors Nuclear reactors were not originally built for electric purposes. In fact, when these reactors were first built, their sole purpose was for research, and the creation of the element plutonium which was to be used in nuclear warfare (Cox, 1995). Thankfully times have changed, to a certain extent, and the nuclear reactors are used for electrical purposes, and other powering supplies only (Cox, 1995). Nuclear reactors can be found world wide especially in France, as well as in Japan.

  • 45. Olan The Virtuous Woman Essay Olan or the Virtuous Woman, same person? Relatively close? Or just complete opposites? Throughout the novel, The Good Earth Olan a slave woman with unbound feet is wedded to Wang Lung a poor crop farmer. Olan is responsible for many things in her marriage with Lung such as cooking and such, but she is a right minded woman who does more than she is asked or told. She carries weight on her shoulders and works her hardest even in times of struggle. Olan does not go down easy, she s a worker and will not quit till the job done. So is Olan the Virtuous Woman? Well of course she is, the closest thing to it! The Virtuous Woman is a person who is worth far more than jewels and money, their worth is meaningful through their love, care, respect, and hard work. They give their husbands a full heart and show them that they need no spoiling for they are content and happy with the life they are provided and are willing to put forth the same effort as the other does. Olan is a perfect example of such a woman for she does more than she is asked by pushing herself to the limits to provide her husband and show that she is willing to be right there by his side... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Olan portrays these qualities greatly throughout the novel, even when she should not. For example Olan is proud of the person she is and love s her life very much, she values what she has, such as the land Lung was going to sell and she told him not too, that their family would be fine. On the other hand, Wang Lung involves himself with another woman named Lotus. Olan should be furious with this and unkind, but she is not, she allows it to happen and continues to love and cherish her husband, provide for him and work hard while ignoring it all. Olan may be the Virtuous Woman but her husband takes advantage of this amazing blessing by not giving to her what she has given to him, a loving, caring

The Cosmological Argument The Cosmological Argument An important argument to try and prove the existence of God is the Cosmological Argument brought on by observations of the physical universe, made by Saint Thomas Aquinas, a thirteenth century Christian philosopher. The cosmological argument is a result from the study of the cosmos; Aquinas borrows ideas from Aristotle to make this systematically organized argument. Aquinas first point begins with the observation that everything is moving. Aquinas says that everything that moves must be moved by another moving thing, which has to be moved by another moving thing and so on. This cannot be infinite though, because consequently the motion of the series would have no origin, and the origin of this series cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But David Hume, a Scottish philosopher, objected to Aquinas second point by arguing that if each individual link in the chain of causes and motions can be explained then there is no need for an additional explanation for the whole of the chain. The explanation of each part is enough of an explanation for the whole itself. But defenders say that the discovery of the Big Bang theory would be the beginning of the causes and motions in the universe and is not infinite, so infinite regress would not be possible. A third objection to the cosmological argument as a whole is that Aquinas insists that everything has a cause; if that is true, then what caused God? There being an uncaused cause would be a contradiction to Aquinas whole argument that everything has a cause yet God has no cause. But Aquinas defends his argument by saying that only everything in our universe has a cause because everything in our universe is a limited, dependent being. That still would require an uncaused, neither finite, nor dependent being unlike anything in our universe, God. Critics also object that the cosmological argument does not prove a loving and personal God, but Aquinas would probably respond by stating that this wouldn t prove his argument is wrong, only that it has a limited purpose. I think between the two arguments, Cosmological and Ontological, the cosmological
  • 47. Computer Graphics Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the representation and manipulation of image data by a computer. The development of computer graphics has made computers easier to interact with, and better for understanding and interpreting many types of data. Developments in computer graphicshave had a profound impact on many types of media and have revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry. Overview The term computer graphics has been used in a broad sense to describe almost everything on computers that is not text or sound . Typically, the term computer graphics refers to several different things: the representation and manipulation of image data by a computer the various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example is that Sutherland s software modeled objects not just a picture of objects. In other words, with a model of a car, one could change the size of the tires without affecting the rest of the car. It could stretch the body of the car without deforming the tires. These early computer graphics were vector graphics, composed of thin lines whereas modern day graphics are Raster based using pixels. Further 1960s developments Also in 1961 another student at MIT, Steve Russell, created the first video game, Spacewar. Written for the DEC PDP 1, Spacewar was an instant success and copies started flowing to other PDP 1 owners and eventually even DEC got a copy. The engineers at DEC used it as a diagnostic program on every new PDP 1 before shipping it. The sales force picked up on this quickly enough and when installing new units, would run the world s first video game for their new customers. E. E. Zajac, a scientist at Bell Telephone Laboratory (BTL), created a film called Simulation of a two giro gravity attitude control system in 1963.[5] In this computer generated film, Zajac showed how the attitude of a satellite could be altered as it orbits the Earth. He created the animation on an IBM 7090 mainframe computer. Also at BTL, Ken Knowlton, Frank Sindon and Michael Noll started working in the computer graphics field. Sindon created a film called Force, Mass and Motion illustrating Newton s laws of motion in

Vacation Vs My Dream Vacation My Typical Vacation vs. My Dream Vacation I take a vacation every year, and every year it s the same thing a week of camping at a campground one hour from our home. But I dream of a vacation in which I take a cruise to some exotic location or stay at an all inclusive resort on an island where I can be pampered and thrilled at the same time. Both of these vacations are good, and both certainly offer me time away from work in which I can have a respite from impending deadlines, a demanding boss, and grumbling clients. In addition, both can even offer me the outdoor time soaking up the natural world my spirit seems to need. And to be clear, family memories, which are so important to me, can be made on both vacations. Yet, the differences between my dream vacation and my typical camping vacation are distinct, which is why I still yearn for that dream vacation that I have yet to take. To begin with, both vacations are different in purpose. We go camping because it is inexpensive; raising children costs money, and camping is an inexpensive yet fun way for us to make family memories yet still afford things for the children like nice clothes, extracurricular activities like football and piano lessons, and fun activities like going bowling with friends. The cost of a camping vacation is minimal, particularly if we use the same supplies year after year. We sleep on the ground in a tent we have used for ten years. We cook our own food over a campfire, and our daily
