Canvas considers three activities as assignments: graded assignments, graded discussions, and graded quizzes. To add an assignment in Canvas, instructors click the plus sign in a module header, select new assignment, enter the name, and add the item to create a placeholder. They can then open the assignment from the module, click edit, enter instructions, set submission type and other details like due dates, and save and publish to make it visible to students. Assignments must have a due date to appear on the course calendar.

4. Adding an Assignment to a Module
Click the PLUS sign in the Module Header

5. Click:
• New Assignment
• Enter the Assignment Name
• Add Item
This will create a Placeholder for this assignment at the bottom of the selected module.

6. Open the Assignment from the Module
Click the
Assignment
Name to Open

7. This will display a summary of the assignments
current status.
Click the
Edit
Button

8. Enter the assignment instructions in the Rich
Content Editor box.

9. Enter your desired Assignment Detail Settings

10. Select desired Submission Type

By Default it will Assign to
“Everyone” but you can assign
to specific blocks or individual

All Assignments should have a

dates will restrict student
access.
