Into The World Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Into The World" can present both challenges and opportunities for
exploration. The difficulty lies in capturing the multifaceted nature of the theme, which often
involves delving into various aspects such as personal growth, societal expectations, and the
impact of new experiences. Crafting a compelling narrative that seamlessly weaves together these
elements requires careful thought and organization.
One of the complexities of tackling this topic is the need to strike a balance between
introspection and external influences. The essay may demand a deep dive into personal
reflections, forcing the writer to confront and articulate their own journey of venturing into
uncharted territories. Simultaneously, it requires an understanding of the broader context,
considering how societal norms, cultural shifts, or global events shape the individual's perception
of the world.
Another challenge lies in the articulation of one's thoughts. Expressing the profound impact of
transformative experiences or navigating the complexities of change demands a nuanced use of
language. The writer must convey their emotions and insights with clarity, ensuring that the essay
resonates with the reader on both an intellectual and emotional level.
Research also plays a crucial role in developing a comprehensive essay on this topic. It involves
not only drawing from personal experiences but also incorporating external sources to support
and enrich the narrative. Synthesizing information and weaving it seamlessly into the essay
requires a skillful blend of analytical thinking and creative expression.
In essence, crafting an essay on "Into The World" demands a delicate dance between the
personal and the universal, the reflective and the analytical. It requires the writer to navigate
through the complexities of self-discovery while simultaneously exploring the broader forces at
play in shaping one's worldview.
To alleviate some of the challenges associated with such an essay, individuals may seek
assistance from professional writing services. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer the option
to order custom essays tailored to specific requirements, providing a valuable resource for those

The Threat Of Suicide Attacks
Another misconception is that fanatics create suicide terrorist attacks in isolated
events, this is false. The majority of suicide attacks are usually clustered events,
which are part of a large campaign to coerce a government. Those who reside in the
most upper rankings of the organization, strategically and carefully plan the timing of
these campaigns. The timing of the attacks can be used to allow time for negations, to
encourage a government to act more swiftly, or to allow time for regrouping due to
the effects of the previous bombings. The timing is crucial to the ultimate goal of the
organization because the organizations do not want the effects of the attacks to be

Terrorist organizations will most likely announce their goals and demand and if
they are not met suicide attacks as well as other attacks will be carried out, until
the demands are met. Once the goals are moderately obtained, the attacks will
systematically stop. C. Suicide terrorism has become increasingly popular because
many terrorists are confident in their ability to carry out the attack. The act of
suicide bombing is more secure for the organization as a whole, than any other
method. Instead of having to create and intricate escape plan and risk the bomber
being captured, the bomber will simply perish with all the information they know.
There is a low risk factor for the organization, the insurgent would not need to
extensively plan out every detail of the attack because if needed the individual
could change their plan and still be able to inflict a devastating effect. These
individuals are classified as ultimate smart bombs , they are able to move about
freely and change locations to create the most damage. These human smart bombs
are not only able to attack the masses but also a specific target (Hoffman 132). If an
issue arises, they are more flexible then other types of warfare such as placed bombs.
These last minute changes are crucial to the overall effectiveness of the attack. The
attacks would also not take a financial strain on the organization. With the average

An Invasive Species Has Entered Maryland s Waters And...
An invasive species has entered Maryland s waters and threatens to dramatically
alter the balance of the aquatic ecosystem. The Northern Snakehead fish, native to
Asia and Africa, is a voracious predator, competing with native fish at all stages of
its life. The juveniles will consume zooplankton, insect larvae, small crustaceans
and other fry fish. Adults eat fish, crustaceans, frogs, small reptiles and even birds
and mammals. Snakeheads aggressively protect their young. They are also air
breathers which allow them to survive on land for as long as four days and migrate
up to a quarter mile over land making control difficult. Snakeheads carry a disease,
Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome, and there is concern this disease may be
transmitted to native fish. The snakehead fish was probably intentionally released in
the U.S. by aquarium owners and through the live food fish trade attempting to
establish a local food source. To date, the snakehead fish is found in seven states
with reproducing populations documented in Maryland and Florida. In Maryland,
they have been captured in the Potomac River and tributaries. The Maryland
Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and
the Biological Resources Division of the U.S.G.S. are all involved in monitoring and
eradicating the snakehead fish. Maryland anglers can help by learning to identify the
snakehead fish and by removing it from the ecosystem. As further incentive,
Maryland DNR has offered

I chose the NutriGrain commercial. In this advertisement, a business woman is
presented two options to eat. She can either choose a NutriGrain bar, or a doughnut.
The screen then splits vertically in two to compare how her day progressed based on

The Effects Of Environmental Impacts On The Environment
When it comes to our environment in today s day and age, citizens only seem to see
it becoming worse and worse. In fact, most would even say that the world is beyond
saving with all of the impact greenhouse gases and the human way of living is
destroying our ecosystems. But that couldn t be further from the truth! Today, we
have plenty of efforts in place attempting to reduce, and hopefully reverse, the
negative effects on our environment. The transportation industry, one of the largest
contributors to CO2 emissions, is no exception. Amtrak, being the number one
passenger rail system in America, is making it an active goal to help preserve our
planet. For instance, Amtrak pays close attention to the level of carbon emissions
that it contributes on both a personal and overall scale. Just by traveling on Amtrak,
instead of various other options, you are choosing a mode a transportation that
contributes less greenhouse gases. Amtrak states that by riding on it instead of say
a car or plane, there is as much as a thirty percent increase in energy efficiency.
Amtrak also offers CO2 offsets by allowing passengers to buy back the amount of
greenhouse gases that they personally added as a natural result of their travel.
Through a partnership with Carbonfund.org, Amtrak has created a tool called the Rail
Calculator which calculates the amount of carbon emissions generated by the
passenger s rail travel based on the distance that they traveled and then compiles a
price that the

Community In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Home is where the heart is, unless it is a small village in rural Colombia. In the
case of the villagers who populate Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death
Foretold , the concept of community triggers feelings of hostility, vengeance, and
anger. As far as this town s culture goes, family and religiontrump all: they drive the
Vicario brothers to murder, and force the women of the village to reach unrealistic
standards under obscure guidelines. It seems no one is immune to the strength of
these shared beliefs and values. Even normal citizens fall victim to the opinion, their
negligence leaving them as much at fault for Santiago s murder as the very
perpetrators themselves. Such stringent social constructs evident in the village s
society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It exists as the driving force behind Santiago s murder, suggesting that compassion is
discarded when honor and respect are at stake. To the people of the fictitious village,
honor [is] a brittle value one that cannot be rescued if harmed (Lipsett Rivera). Such a
concept is illustrated through the actions of the Vicario twins, who stab Santiago to
death in cold blood over the honor of their sister. Despite their open confession, both
brothers still claim to be innocent under the idea their crime was, before God and
before men...a matter of honor (49). The religious connotation intertwined with the
act of killing suggests that exacting revenge is reverent, and therefore necessary to
keep true to their faith and code of honor. Furthermore, the parallel structure of the
phrase before God and before men furthers the link between faith and honor. By
associating the terms God and men with each other, Marquez reveals that the notion
of humanity is based on religious conviction. Thus, the only way to retain status as a
good human is to follow religious constructs, and in the case of the Vicario brothers,
to kill. This idea is furthered in the aftermath of the murder, when Marquez asserts
that in killing Santiago, the brothers Vicario had proved their status as men (80). As
with religion, honor itself is constantly emphasized as a framework for social
hierarchy in the village. In killing Santiago, the brothers cemented not only their
faith, but their rank in society as
Optimism
Optimism
Optimism is a mental attitude or world view that interprets situations and events as
being best (optimized), meaning that in some way for factors that may not be fully
comprehended, the present moment is in an optimum state. The concept is typically
extended to include the attitude of hope for future conditions unfolding as optimal as
well. The more broad concept of optimism is the understanding that all of nature, past,
present and future, operates by laws of optimization along the lines of Hamilton s
principle of optimization in the realm of physics. This understanding, although
criticized by counter views such as pessimism, idealism and realism, leads to a state
of mind that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He hoped that society would eventually reach the state where calm reason would
replace all violence and force, that mind could eventually make matter subservient to
it, and that intelligence could discover the secret of immortality. Much of this
philosophy is exemplified in the Houyhnhnms of Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels.
Panglossianism
The term panglossianism describes baseless optimism of the sort exemplified by
the beliefs of Pangloss from Voltaire s Candide, which are the opposite of his
fellow traveller Martin s pessimism and emphasis on free will. The phrase
panglossian pessimism has been used to describe the pessimistic position that, since
this is the best of all possible worlds, it is impossible for anything to get any better.
The panglossian paradigm is a term coined by Stephen Jay Gould and Richard
Lewontin to refer to the notion that everything has specifically adapted to suit
specific purposes. Instead, they argue, accidents and exaptation (the use of old
features for new purposes) play an important role in the process of evolution. Some
other scientists however argue the implication that many (or most) adaptionists are
panglossians is a straw man.

Employee Contribution Limit Analysis
According to Investopedia, a 401(k) plan is a qualified plan established by
employers to which eligible employees may make salary deferral (salary reduction)
contributions on a post tax and/or pretax basis. Employers offering a 401(k) plan
may make matching or non elective contributions to the plan on behalf of eligible
employees and may also add a profit sharing feature to the plan. Earnings accrue on
a tax deferred basis. (401(k), 2003) A qualified plan is a retirement plan which is
organized and designed for the benefit of a company s employees. However, both
the company and its employees receive considerable tax benefits when by

The employer contribution limit for these employee s is based on the employers
overall 401(k) participation rate. The contribution to the pool of HCE s cannot be
more than 125% of the average of all on the non HCE s contributions.
Consequently, the amount of the contribution is really dependent on how many
non HCEs are participating in the company s 401(k) plan. If payments made are in
excess of the 125% threshold to HCEs, then the funds must be refunded to the
employee. The employee may use those funds to re contribute to their 401(k) as a
post tax employee contribution. Any post tax contributions made must be reported
as taxable income for tax filing purposes. (Publication 7335, 2015) Actual Deferral

Essay On Eating In America
Eating is America s national disorder because as Pollan notes, Americans are
perplexed on what is wise to eat. Eating has turned into less of an agricultural act and
more political, industrial, scientific, and business oriented. From a sociological
standpoint, as social roles and norms have changed (i.e. women working), the way of
eatinghas changed immensely from a sit down, home cooked dinner to TV dinners
and fast food. Foods are more accepted if they are quick and efficient. When
businessmen and women saw this opportunity, the economic benefits were so great
that companies began to build rules, regulations, incentives, as well as, business
practices (i.e. agribusiness) around it. For example, 30 minute lunch breaks, unpaid
lunches, fast... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This particularly refers to the laws on the production of corn and soybeans, which
indirectly forces farmers to lean toward producing these items, which contributes to
malnourishment and again leaves individuals confused about what is safe to eat. The
lean toward these products has significantly increased the scientific modifications of
corn and soybeans in order to decrease certain food prices. Additionally, nutrition
tools used in education settings are regulated by the government and tend to stick
closely scientist recommendations rather than common sense and instincts. America
is susceptible to this because as a country, we do not have a standard cultural cuisine
that would help regulate the American diet, due to America being a salad bowl
(inclusive of all cultures). All of these issues involving agriculture, math, economics,
sociology, psychology, marketing, education, science, culture, technology,
communications, political science, and business contribute to eating being America s
national disorder. Americans are disconnected from their food, eating unconsciously,
following culinary and diet fads, lacking nutritional knowledge, poor social norms
surrounding meals, as well as, agriculture turning into agribusiness has left Americans
overweight and

Strength Training Is The Primary Component Of Injury...
Dance, as a sport, is often underestimated and due to its grace and fluidity, it is not
taken seriously. Grace, fluidity and flexibility are all essential for dancing at a
professional level, however, as is strength and agility, skills are often overlooked by
the general population. As dance requires a high level of physical fitness and skill,
the impact of injuryon a professional dancer s career can be severe and can affect
their ability to perform at a professional or even amateur level. Strength training is the
primary component of injury prevention.
BACKGROUND
Evidence suggests that dance originated from ancient rituals, spiritual gatherings and
social events, and the way dance has evolved throughout history greatly varies
between different societies. This lead to the modernisation of current styles, such as
ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, tap, salsa and the tango.
Jazz, hip hop and tap dancing are genres that originated from African American
vernacular dance, whereas salsa and tango originated in the Caribbean and South
America.
THE PHYSICS AND ANATOMY OF DANCE AND THE BODY
Injury is becoming more prevalent in dance due to the fact that dancers bodies are
stressed beyond their design limits. The competitive nature of dance has lead to
younger and more talented performers. The competitiveness of the field results in
increased physical and mental pressure on dancers to be better than their peers. Being
better equates to greater flexibility, balance and

Many areas have even gone beyond contamination with saliva and feces, to dangerous
chemical contamination, often resulting in bodies of water such as rivers having
dead fish and other organisms floating around in large amounts. Chemical pollution
often involves large amounts of metal solvents, agricultural pesticides, simple carbon
dioxide (which can also cause grief and large amounts of death in marine organism
populations) and petroleum, all because of industrial reasons. Sometimes, humongous
amounts of inanimate man made objects also become deadly pollutants, such as
plastic bags, sometimes taking up as much as 700,000 square kilometers, the size of
Texas. These locations can trap even more marine organisms, causing shifts in
balance of the marine ecosystems and food webs, often causing chain reactions which
shatter the underwater world. These ecosystems need to be preserved with

Wahaha is the largest soft drink producer in China, competing with the big players
including Pepsi and Coca Cola. It was founded in 1987 when the company began
selling soda water, ice cream, and stationary to children. The founder, Zong
Qinghou, found that there are 38 companies in the nation producing nutritional
drinks but none of them were targeted to children. The idea became an instant
success and increased the revenue to RMB400 million by 1990. However,
management soon realized this growth would be difficult to sustain and they
would have to act fast in order to expand market share and increase the company
growth. One advantage for Wahaha is that they had a solid cash position without
any long term bank debt which isn t company for Chinese companies of their size.
They also set specific goals to achieve like establishing subsidiaries in provinces
which ended up being a very successful endeavor. Wahaha underwent many brand
extensions which sparked a lot of debate about whether or not it would dilute the
brand. Zong argued that extended the brand into categories that didn t have a
dominant brand yet would benefit Wahaha overall. This ended up being a very
successful idea. They also had a strong brand known for health, wholesomeness,
happiness, quality and reliability, and just a brand for children s nutritious drinks .
The company was able to growth further due to acquisitions. This helped the
company expand to different regions and provinces while growing brand recognition
and share of the markets. One of Wahaha strongest competitive strategies was their
ability to lead the market by having strong management within the company.
Competitors would follow close on their heels but none were able to surpass
because of poor company management this included larger companies as well. Zong
attributed the company s success to its superior understanding of the Chinese
market: Market research reports in China are not reliable. You pay the market
research firms large amounts of money and you don t know where the money was
spent. However, our own marketing people are market research staff since we are

this level of power. Internal temperatures rose. Attempts to cool the system produced
the opposite effect. Instantly, the nuclear coresurged with power. At 1:23 p.m., the

While some of the radiation lasted only for a few weeks, radioactive cesium 137
contaminated the ground, plants, animals, and people with particles that produce
destructive energy waves for 30 or more years. Over time, both kinds of radiation
can cause cancer and other diseases.[2] Patricia Doyle, president of the Chernobyl
Children s Project which aids victims of the Chernobyl accident said, The
Chernobyl accident resulted initially in an epidemic of thyroid cancer in the
surrounding region. While that has subsided, physicians have been seeing an
increase in tumors of all types caused by exposure to the radiation that remains in
the soil. [3] According to a statistic from the Belarus Ministry of Health quoted
during a field visit in January 1999, only 15% of the children between the ages of 5

Oprah Winfrey s Impact On The World
Many people enter the talk show world, but not many people make it as easy as
Oprah Winfrey, nor have they made the impact on the entire world like she has.
She has had all different kinds of measures of success, fame and influence on the
world. Oprah Winfrey is an actress, talk show host, producer, and benefactor. She is
known all over the world, and its leadership that makes her different from everyone
else. Oprah s past has shaped her into what she believes, and fights for today for
everyone else. On the other hand, although she loves everything she does, it comes to
an end, because she knows there will always be something better up ahead.

construction on the teachers houses. The money will also go towards supplies all
the materials needed in the school and the school supplies for the kids. On the
other hand, she has also even donated her time to create a public database of
convicted child abusers. This was very important to her because as a child Oprah
was abused, and beaten on a regular basis. She really cares about children due to
her life and what she has gone through with her own battles. Different From her

Unsounded Compare And Contrast
I will be comparing the extraordinary world of Unsounded to the terrifying

Cope. Unsounded is a free weekly updated online graphic novel that is set in an
epic fantasy world. It follows the adventures and shenanigans of the daughter of
the King of Thieves, Sette, and her very unlikely side kick, a mystical and magic
wielding zombie named Duane. It follows them on their quest to get to Sette s
cousin Stockyard. On their way they run into mystic creatures, epic bad guys, and a
squadron of city guards, which only leads to trouble thanks to Sette s ignorance of
the real world. The graphic novel Unsounded is different from the graphic novel The

you look at the pictures and examine the detail of each pictures you ll see the

graphic novel is during the first chapter. On page two of chapter one you see the
main character Sette climb up on to a cliff, as she gets up on the cliff you get to see
her mysteriously cloaked partner float up on a piece of earth (Cope, 1.2). Another
piece of evidence that Unsounded is a fantasy world is on page five of chapter
one. The scene is of Sette getting pushed off a cliff by her zombie partner Duane.
You can see she s falling from the vertical lines behind her and her hair is flowing
backwards from the wind going through it. As she is falling Duane floats down on
another piece of earth and stops Sette s momentum in mid fall with
The Day Of The Holiday Shopping Season Essay
Thanksgiving day marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Americans
are more inclined to take out their credit cards tis the season to be jolly and shop.
One would think that consumers holiday shopping greatly affects gross domestic
product (GDP). After all, personal consumption expenditure is roughly 70% of U.S.
GDP. GDP growth in the last quarters however, have not consistently exceeded the
other three quarters of the year looking at data after the 2007 2009 Great Recession.
Nevertheless, retail sales a leading indicator provide clues on the economy s overall
consumption activity.
An uptick in retails sales is expected in December each year. Based on historical
data, monthly retail sales that is retail trade and food services excluding autos,
show a definitive pattern: December retail sales are higher than other months of
the year. Data going back the last 23 years show double digit retail sales growth in
each December. In December last year, monthly retail sales increased 17.9% from
November a $64.7 billion increase. In 2014 the increase in retail sales from
November to December was $55.8 billion.
American s shopping spree affects credit union operations. Unlike auto and mortgage
lending which is roughly 80% of credit union loan portfolio combined, last year
credit card loans was 6.2% of loan portfolio. In the last five years, credit card loans
stayed above 6.0% (but under 7.0%) of credit unions loan portfolio with a high of
6.6% in 2012. It

A Research Study On Psychological Research
Psychological Research can range from being simple to very complex. Psychological
research deals with the research that psychologist have conducted to research and
analyze the behavior of individuals. When conducting these researches there are
special guidelines which need to be taken. If the researcher fails to meet these
guidelines the researchmay be classified as unethical. When conducting
psychological research there are many important ethnical guidelines which need to
be followed. The researcher should inform consent. It is not enough for researchers
to get a yes or no from their participants; the participants need to know exactly what
they are agreeing to. Before beginning research, the researcher must make sure they
outline what exactly the research is about, and ask their consent before the research
begins. Individuals who are 18 older are able to give their own consent, but if the
participant is younger than 18 they must have the consent of a parent or legal

Fast Food Franchising Company And Corporation
McDonald s is a very well known fast food franchising company and corporation.
The company was first established in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice
McDonald. Surprisingly the restaurant was not named McDonalds from the
beginning, it was actually named McDonald s Bar B Q and it held many menu items,
but mostly barbecue. After eight years of selling their menu, the brothers noticed
hamburgers were their bestselling item. It was at that time, in 1948, that the
McDonald brothers closed down their small car hop to open a burger stand with a
streamlined system. They renamed their burger stand McDonalds and that became
the start of its journey to become the biggest global fast foodchain. In 1955, a man by

In 1967, McDonald s opened the first international franchise and by 1992 had
restaurants on six continents (James p.2).
As of 2014, McDonald s has over 30,000 restaurants globally and they employ over 1
million people. McDonald s corporate office and global headquarters is located in
Oak Brook, Illinois. The company has taken the title of the world s largest fast food
chain and has the profits that show it. In 2012 alone the fast food industry had
total revenue of 190.1 billion dollars. In the same year McDonald s had total
revenue of 35,600 million, which is over twice as much as the second most
profitable company, subway, which had total revenue of 12,100 million. The
reason the company make so much more profit than other chains lies in their
business model and the company s involvement in real estate. In order to
understand the company s involvement in real estate, one must go back to the
company s beginnings. In 1956 Ray Kroc was having a hard time making his
franchised restaurants profitable, he was not able to acquire the funds to pay both
the building of the restaurant and to pay for the land the restaurants would be built
on. It was only after Harry J Sonneborn was hired and approached to Kroc with an
idea to bring McDonald s into the real estate business. Soon after, the Franchise
Realty Corporation was established. The purpose was not only to buy and sell
properties, but also to
The Autonomic Nervous System ( Sns ) Division Of The...
Autonomics and Stress
Introduction:
The autonomic nervous system, which is the division of the central nervous system
that is not consciously controlled but regulates bodily functions, is influenced by
stress. Stress can be defined as a stimulus that interrupts homeostasis within the body,
either physiologically or psychologically. The influence that it has is innovation of
the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) division of the ANS, and can include changes
to skin conductance, heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature and respiratory
rate1. Under SNS activation, caused by stress, heart rate, skin temperature,
respiratory rate, blood pressure and skin conductance will all increase1,2. This
experiment aimed to choose a stressor that would influence autonomic measures and
record the response. The choice of stressor used in this experiment was invasion of
an individual s personal space, measured via skin conductance and heart rate. There
is known to be a linear relationship between discomfort or tension and the invasion of
personal space3 and this experiment aimed to test this response via autonomic
parameters. For example the skin conductance measure would indicate sweat; if
conductance increases there is less skin resistance due to the increase in sweat from
SNS innovation, caused by the stressor1. The cardiovascular responses observed
could be due to an inhibition of parasympathetic activity, activation of SNS or a
mixture of both2,3. The null hypothesis for this experiment

biggest cities who was hit hard by the quake was Christchurch, which most of this
report is going to talk about.
Cultural
The Christchurch earth quake had many cultural effects that occurred during and
after the quake such streets and houses: Properties and streets were buried in thick
layers of silt, and water and sewage from broken pipes flooded streets. House
foundations cracked and buckled wrecking many homes. Several thousand homes
will have to be demolished, and some sections of suburbs will probably never be re
occupied such as houses in the red zone, as shown in figure 10. Another cultural
effect was critically damaged buildings in the CBD area, as shown in figure 13. The
critically damaged buildings that were brought down were buildings previously

Jesus Kick Off His Sermon With The Beatitudes Analysis
Kicking off His sermon with the Beatitudes, Jesus seeks to illustrate the necessary
attitudes for life within the kingdom of God. These types of behaviors are generally
perceived as unconventional. Yet, all nine of the Beatitudes share two common
attributes: dependence upon God and trust in Him. Starting His sermon this way
would have been Jesusway of quickly dispelling the typical views held by the Jews of
His day. Frequently, Jews in the first century wouldn t have considered the aspects
detailed in the Beatitudes as being important or weighty matters. As Jesus intention is
to correct the misinterpretations propagated by the Pharisees and Sadducees, it makes
sense that He would commence His teachings with these blessed are they statements.

Jesus in His final beatitude (cf. Matt. 5:11 12) instructs that those who suffer for the
sake of righteousness are blessed and shall inherit the kingdom. Contrary to
contemporary views on persecutions, Jesus is specifically referencing sufferings
endured from religious people for religious reasons. This beatitude exemplifies the
idea of unconventional thought processes in the kingdom. Rather than revile and
slander their persecutors, Jesus teaches that they should rejoice and be exceedingly
glad (cf. Matt. 5:12a). Fighting back lends itself to being incorrect or undedicated;
remaining passive, on the other hand, shows a great deal of courage and contentment
which would speak much louder than being combative (cf. 1 Pet. 3:13

Transient Global Amnesia
Transient Global Amnesia and Sleep
This paper will discuss whether Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is or is not
induced by our sleep patterns and quality of sleep. Per the Journal of Clinical Sleep
Medicine (JCSM), Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is defined as a temporary
memory loss characterized by an abrupt onset of anterograde (AGA) and retrograde
amnesia (RA). In other words, TGA occurs when there is a sudden occurrence of both
Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia at the same time. As defined by the
JCSM, anterograde amnesia is the acute inability to retain new information and
retrograde amnesia is the significant reduction in the ability to recall past events.
TGA has been known to last up to twenty four hours. During the acute ... Show more

But can consolidation of memories be affected in the same way? In studies that
concentrated on how Benzodiazepines (a substance used as a sleep aid and an anti
anxiety medicine) affected the quality of sleep and memory of events that happen
during interrupted sleep periods. Subjects fell back asleep rather quickly, but
come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were given to complete
earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep,
researchers presented undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into
sleep. But of course, to ensure sleepiness the students were limited to two hours of
sleep the night prior to the experiment. Researchers used an electroencephalograph
(EEG), which is a tool to determine one s position in the wake to sleep cycle. Using
the EEG researchers determined when their subjects were asleep then either
allowed them short periods of sleep or long periods before waking them. Once
their subjects were woken up, they tested their memory through recognition.
Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of sleep did, in
fact, the memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period,
in this case, ten minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to
them in the five minutes prior to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted
as an interruption of the transfer of the memory from short term to long term
storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was unavailable to be
recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an
example of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if
subjects were aroused in any way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their
words, then it could be that AGA has been induced. What this fails to conclude
however is if both
The Substitution Mechanisms ( Sn1 And Sn2 ) With
Reactions
This paper was written in order to relate nucleophilic substitution mechanisms (SN1
and SN2) with reactions that involved converting alcohol containing compounds to
alkyl halides. This experiment was conducted by combining the initial alcohol with
reagents and heating under reflux when necessary. It was determined that mechanistic
pathways of substitution depend principally on the structure of the initial alcohol; that
is, substrate is considered primary, secondary, or tertiary. Synthesis of 1 (46%) was
achieved through SN2 mechanism from a primary alcohol, while syntheses 2 (97%)
and 3 (98%) were completed by SN1 mechanisms from secondary and tertiary
alcohols as determined by the presence of rearranged products. Many mechanistic
reactions are utilized and are interrelated in order to produce the desired product in an
organic synthesis. These mechanisms may be generally categorized2 into the
following classes: addition, elimination, substitution, and rearrangement. Of these,
substitution reactions are of particular significance in halogenation reactions of
alcohol containing compounds, in which the alcohol functional group is replaced by
a halide ion (i.e. Cl or Br ). Alcohols are the most common precursors to alkyl halides
and signify a very substantial reaction in organic synthesis4. Substitution reactions
can occur via two mechanisms2, namely unimolecular nucleophilic substitution(SN1,
a stepwise process) and bimolecular nucleophilic substitution (SN2, a

Why Carter Center Won The Nobel Peace Prize
Nobel Peace Prize What would you do if your entire nation is being ravaged by a
disease that you don t know how to treat? That s where The Carter Center stepped
in to aid struggling families in Africa. Led by former president Jimmy Carter and
his wife, they were able to bring cures to villages that have none. Some people may
say that the Carters just want to gain media attention but I will prove that is not the
case. The purpose of this essay is to show why I believe the Carter Center should be
awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The first reason why The Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace prize is they
assist people in thousands of villages with diseases that don t have a cure in their
country. The biggest epidemic that the Carter Center was involved in was the
Guinea worm disease. In just one years time the Center reduced the disease by a
whopping 99 percent! That number decreased from 3.5 million to less then 11,000.
Since the Center has many people to help throughout the world, they teach the
people who are at the center of the disease to cure it themselves. To do this, the
Carter Center train volunteers within the thousands of villages who are the main
reason the diseases are cured. However, this not the only reason the Carter Center
should win the Nobel Peace Prize. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To cure Guinea worm they took an extremely low tech approach. One of the main
ways they stopped the disease was to keep people from drinking contaminated
water. They built wells, treated water to kill fleas, and also filtered water. The
simplest way they destroyed the disease was by handing out pipe filters. Pipe filters
are small portable water purification plants that look like a piece of jewelry. It has a

What more could they have done to help those
Ambiguity In The Wife Of Bath s Tale
Ambiguity acts as a catalyst that evokes a certain feeling arousing an immense
interest in something that is not definitive. This purposely sparks the audience to
dive into the depths on the text to crystallize the uncertainties, and as a result,
contemplate the meaning of the uncertainty as well. Throughout the story, Chaucer s
design constantly appears to shift depending on the particular interpretation of the
reading; thus, incites uncertainty for the reader as they attempt to firmly pin down
the author s true intention. One of the permeating uncertainties revolves around his
character, the Wifeof Bath. Raising the question whether Chaucer was applauding or
criticizing her, and the purpose of each option. By looking at multiple literary
techniques used in the final passagebefore her tale, we can see that the ending
prologue passage acts as a mirror to the final passage of the Wife of Bath s Tale to
illustrate the connections between the Wife of Bath and the old womanfrom her tale.
Chaucer purposely leaves the audience contemplating the meaning of the colloquial
fairy tale with regards to the likelihood of the reality of the Wife of Bath character
actually existing to act as a warning to the males of the time period.
Particularly, the passage preceding her tale functions as the corporeal component of
the reflection that will be mirrored in the following tale that acts as tangible proof to
disprove the far fetched fairy tale interpretation. After recounting upon her

Skier
As the weather gets colder and snow begins to blanket the ground, most people start
complaining about frigid temperatures and back breaking shoveling. However, there
is a group of people who thrive during these frozen winter months. They are known
as skiers. The dictionary definition of downhill , or alpine, skiing is simply the sport
or recreation of sliding down snow covered hills on skis with fixed heel bindings.
Does that do skiers justice? As a dedicated skier, I think that definition is insulting.
There is so much more to skiing than just standing on some pieces of metal and
plastic. Some people think of skiers as bums who like taking risks and sleeping out
of their car in gas station parking lots. There are also those who characterize skiers
as rich snobs who have nothing better to spend their time and money on. However,
those are extremes. Most people are between those beliefs, and identify skiers as ...

Some people can not deal with the cold, others find the sport too physically
demanding, and still more would rather spend their time and/or money on other
endeavors. Skiing is not easy. Being a skier is not simply putting on boots,
standing on skis, and letting gravity do the work. However, skiing is worth the
difficulties! There is nothing that can compare to the satisfaction of spending a
day out on the slopes. You might find that you can relate to weekend warriors ,
enjoyers , racers , freestylers , a combination of categories, or neither of these!
However, one thing that all skiers have in common is that they enjoy being active
outside and being adventurous. Everyone will have their own personal style of
skiing, but in the end skiing is all about the freedom of being able to live in the
moment. There are few things these days that allow people to do this. Skiing allows
people to forget about the past and future and simply take pleasure in everything life

Sacred Cow in India
18 India s sacred cow MARVIN HARRIS Other people s religious practices and
beliefs may often appear to be wasteful. They seem to involve a large expenditure of
scarce resources on ritual; they contain taboos that restrict the use of apparently
useful materials. Their existence seems irrational in the face of ecological needs. One
example that many cite in support of this viewpoifJt is the religious proscription on
the slaughter of cattle in India. How can people permit millions of cattle to roam
about eating, but uneaten, in a land so continuously threatened by food shortages and
starvation? In this article, Marvin Harris challenges the view that religious value is
ecologically irrational. Dealing with the Indian case, he argues that... Show more

Thereafter, the cow taboo assumed its modern form and began to function much
as it does today. The place of the cow in modern India is every place on posters, in
the movies, in brass figures, in stone and wood carvings, on the streets, in the
fields. The cow is a symbol of health and abundance. It provides the milk that
Indians consume in the form of yogurt and ghee (clarified butter), which contribute
subtle flavors to much spicy Indian food. This, perhaps, is the practical role of the
cow, but cows provide less than half the milk produced in India. Most cows in
India are not dairy breeds. In most regions, when an Indian farmer wants a steady,
high quality source of milk he usually invests in a female water buffalo. In India
the water buffalo is the specialized dairy breed because its milk has a higher
butterfat content than zebu milk. Although the farmer milks his zebu cows, the
milk is merely a by product. . More vital than zebu milk to South Asian farmers are
zebu calves. Male calves are especially valued because from bulls come oxen, which
are the mainstay of the Indian agricultural system. Small, fast oxen drag wooden
plows through late spring fields when monsoons have dampened the dry, cracked
earth. After harvest, the oxen break the grain from the stalk by stomping through
mounds of cut wheat and rice. For rice cultivation in irrigated fields, the male water
buffalo is preferred (it pulls better in deep mud), but for most other
What Is The Mood Of Vivaldi s Concerto In A Minor First...
Antonio Vivaldi was a 17th and 18th century world renowned classical composer.
He is well known for composing many pieces in his lifetime, one of his most notable
pieces being The Four Seasons. Being a composer in the 17th and 18th centuries, he
was composing in the midst of the baroque era. In the Concertoin A Minor, he utilizes
the popular techniques to effectively engage the audience in the intense and bizarre
feelings that come from listening. The intent of this time period was to use drastic
dynamic changes, apparent contrast between soloists and orchestra parts, and
recurring melodies to effectively evoke emotional responses from the audience.
In Vivaldi s Concerto in A Minor First Movement, terraced dynamics are used
throughout. Terraced dynamics is a musical style used when volume levels switch
abruptly from loud to soft and vise versa without the use of a gradual crescendo, or
decrescendo. In many phrases of this movement, the use of sforzatos and accents help
create the drastic effects. These dynamic changes are apparent throughout the First
Movement, and are often used to create a sense of contour, which engages the
audience or listeners in the emotions that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is another way that Vivaldi expresses pure emotion throughout his music using a
Baroque technique. Vivaldi s Second Movement in the A Minor Concerto is the
shortest and slowest movement out of the three. In order to capture the audiences
attention and during this ludicrously slow movement, he uses repetition of melody.
The repetition of the melody or motive in the movement a short phrase in which a
rhythmic pattern is repeated four times, each time a chromatic change happening to
the notes. The chromatic changes add an element of surprise to the phrase, because
you are expecting to hear the same exact notes over again; but each time it is slightly
Statement Of Purpose For Electrical Engineering
Statement Of Purpose Shreya Rajkumar
I write this as an undergraduate student seeking admission to the Electrical
Engineering graduate program of Stanford with a research focus on Hardware
/Software Systems. The exponential advancement in technology over the last decade
with the rise of Internet of Things and Big data analytics has necessitated novel
computational techniques. New design paradigms in hardware architectures have
emerged to expand the capabilities of physical devices. I am fascinated by the
potential impact of efficient system design and analysis on information technology.
At graduate school, I would like to work at the intersection of embedded systems and
data science, contributing to tackling various design challenges that include
designing energy efficient and secure systems and analyzing collected data to make
new hypotheses. I consider my choice of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Influence Of Social Media On The Fashion Industry
Influence of Social Media on the Fashion Industry According to Katie Hope, from
the BBC News, Burberry, a fashion retailer, has nearly 40 million followers across
20 different social media platforms and openly admits that it has become as much a
media content producer as a design company. Burberry, as well as other name brand
designers, has ditched the catwalk and other ancient fashionrituals for a more edgy
approach towards promoting their identity. During the turn of the century, the
creation of media outlets are used by both consumers and producers alike. The
producers within the industry, use the top three social media platforms, Twitter,
Instagram, and Facebook, to project upcoming sales, designer lines, and hire
famous people from all different fields to advertise their brand, (Moving Faster).
Although many in the fashion industry continue to utilize magazines and
commercials to promote their brands, this practice has become less common due to
the rapid development of various social media outlets. Fashion producers need to
embrace social media as an increasingly important platform with which to promote
their products because of its large fan base, relatively inexpensive means of
spreading the word and its very wide adoption for millennials but increasingly more
so for people of all generations.
Due to the invention of social media, many producers have approached celebrities,
many of whom have a large quantity of followers, to use their accounts in order to
reach a
H.P. Lovecraft’s Fascination in Supernatural Theories
Essay
H.P. Lovecraft s fascination in supernatural theories plays into a main basis for his
novels. (Wohleber) With the unknown lurking, Lovecraft incorporates horror
through the use of psychological fear as a form of expression making it become
crucial for many of his works. At the Mountains of Madness encompasses this
thought by the expeditions before and after effects on the characters. The urge to be
a success fills the scientists up with courage to embark on such a dangerous trip;
however, after the trip the survivors, Danforth and Dyer, had lost all sense of sanity.
On our return Danforth was close to hysterics..promise to say shew our sketches or
say anything. (Lovecraft 176.) Their eyes couldn t believe what was seen having

The horror felt by the characters in the novel are not those of pain, but simply the
fear of knowing the unsuspected truth hiding just beneath the surface of things.
(Wohleber.) Lovecraft s writing goes beyond what tends to be said as horror by
using madness in his characters, suspicion and discovery to the surroundings and
the belief of supernatural beings upon us on Earth.(Wohleber.) Such statements
tamper with the mind because with enough evidence one can only wonder whether
situations in life like that can happen. Throughout the book the confusion only
grows more by showing how their suspicion makes them come up with ideas that
didn t even happen. When arriving at base and having only one person a group of
dogs missing while everyone else is dead can only make someone bring up ideas
on who is behind it all. Situations like these tamper with the characters head only
leading them to further insanity. Lovecraft works with the nature of fear in
literature. He possesses an understanding of the psychological basis of horror
appeal. (Burleson.) Although it is said he was influenced by Poe, Lovecraft revised
what Poe does in his writings. Poe questions the existence of the characters
themselves while Lovecraft deprives the mental wellness of the characters by
questioning what their eyes and ears see or hear.
Characteristics Of The Malaria
Malaria is starting to become one of the worlds most common infectious diseases
and problem to peoples health around the world. This report will highlight the
importance of learning the signs and symptoms of the Malaria disease, how to
prevent becoming infected with it and how to treat it if someone does come in
contact with it. It will also describe the characteristics of the four major types of
Plasmodiumthat affects humans along with the the complete classification,
pathogenesis, how it is transmitted from one host to another, and who and what
country is affected most from this infectious disease. Within the Malarian disease,
there are many species of the Plasmodium parasites, and only 4 of those species
affects the human population. Those species include the Plasmodium falciparum,
Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, and Plasmodium malariae (Wiser, 2011).
There is various differences between these four, but they do all have one thing in
common and that is that they all form rings. The Plasmodium falciparum has
numerous rings that are smaller, it has no trophozoites or schizonts, it is also a
crescent shaped gametocyte. The Plasmodium vivax has a enlarged erythrocyte,
Schuffner s dots, and ameboid trophozoites. The Plasmodium ovale is similar to the
Plasmodium ovale, it has compact trophozoites, fewer merozoites in schizont, and
elongated erythrocytes. The Plasmodium Malariae is a compact parasite and it has
merozoites in rosette (Wiser, 2011). To further identify this infectious disease, it can
be broken down into its taxonomic classification. It starts with the Kingdom being
Protista, Subkingdom being Protozoa, the Phylum being apicomplexa, the Class is
sporozoasida, Order is eucoccidiorida, Family is plasmodiidae, Genus being
plasmodium and the species being falciparum, malariae, ovale, and vivax. (Keas,
1999). The mechanism of Malariais from a Plasmodium parasite, that originate in
female Anopheles mosquitoes, that can spread into humans from the bites of the
infected mosquitoes (Mohandas An, 2012). Among the Plasmodia species... only 4
of the over 100 species of plasmodia are infectious to humans. The majority of cases
and almost all deaths are caused by Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax,

The difficulty lies in capturing the multifaceted nature of the theme, which often involves delving into various aspects such as personal growth, societal expectations, and the impact of new experiences. Crafting a compelling narrative that seamlessly weaves together these elements requires careful thought and organization. One of the complexities of tackling this topic is the need to strike a balance between introspection and external influences. The essay may demand a deep dive into personal reflections, forcing the writer to confront and articulate their own journey of venturing into uncharted territories. Simultaneously, it requires an understanding of the broader context, considering how societal norms, cultural shifts, or global events shape the individual's perception of the world. Another challenge lies in the articulation of one's thoughts. Expressing the profound impact of transformative experiences or navigating the complexities of change demands a nuanced use of language. • 2. The Threat Of Suicide Attacks Another misconception is that fanatics create suicide terrorist attacks in isolated events, this is false. The majority of suicide attacks are usually clustered events, which are part of a large campaign to coerce a government. Those who reside in the most upper rankings of the organization, strategically and carefully plan the timing of these campaigns. The timing of the attacks can be used to allow time for negations, to encourage a government to act more swiftly, or to allow time for regrouping due to the effects of the previous bombings. The timing is crucial to the ultimate goal of the organization because the organizations do not want the effects of the attacks to be counterproductive, if an organization is in negotiations with the... Terrorist organizations will most likely announce their goals and demand and if they are not met suicide attacks as well as other attacks will be carried out, until the demands are met. Once the goals are moderately obtained, the attacks will systematically stop. C. Suicide terrorism has become increasingly popular because many terrorists are confident in their ability to carry out the attack. The act of suicide bombing is more secure for the organization as a whole, than any other method. Instead of having to create and intricate escape plan and risk the bomber being captured, the bomber will simply perish with all the information they know. There is a low risk factor for the organization, the insurgent would not need to extensively plan out every detail of the attack because if needed the individual could change their plan and still be able to inflict a devastating effect. These individuals are classified as ultimate smart bombs , they are able to move about freely and change locations to create the most damage. These human smart bombs are not only able to attack the masses but also a specific target (Hoffman 132). If an issue arises, they are more flexible then other types of warfare such as placed bombs. These last minute changes are crucial to the overall effectiveness of the attack. The attacks would also not take a financial strain on the organization. With the average

The Northern Snakehead fish, native to Asia and Africa, is a voracious predator, competing with native fish at all stages of its life. The juveniles will consume zooplankton, insect larvae, small crustaceans and other fry fish. Adults eat fish, crustaceans, frogs, small reptiles and even birds and mammals. Snakeheads aggressively protect their young. They are also air breathers which allow them to survive on land for as long as four days and migrate up to a quarter mile over land making control difficult. Snakeheads carry a disease, Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome, and there is concern this disease may be transmitted to native fish. The snakehead fish was probably intentionally released in the U.S. by aquarium owners and through the live food fish trade attempting to establish a local food source. To date, the snakehead fish is found in seven states with reproducing populations documented in Maryland and Florida. In Maryland, they have been captured in the Potomac River and tributaries. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Biological Resources Division of the U.S.G.S. are all involved in monitoring and eradicating the snakehead fish. • 8. Community In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Home is where the heart is, unless it is a small village in rural Colombia. In the case of the villagers who populate Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold , the concept of community triggers feelings of hostility, vengeance, and anger. As far as this town s culture goes, family and religiontrump all: they drive the Vicario brothers to murder, and force the women of the village to reach unrealistic standards under obscure guidelines. It seems no one is immune to the strength of these shared beliefs and values. Even normal citizens fall victim to the opinion, their negligence leaving them as much at fault for Santiago s murder as the very perpetrators themselves. Such stringent social constructs evident in the village s society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It exists as the driving force behind Santiago s murder, suggesting that compassion is discarded when honor and respect are at stake. To the people of the fictitious village, honor [is] a brittle value one that cannot be rescued if harmed (Lipsett Rivera). Such a concept is illustrated through the actions of the Vicario twins, who stab Santiago to death in cold blood over the honor of their sister. Despite their open confession, both brothers still claim to be innocent under the idea their crime was, before God and before men...a matter of honor (49). The religious connotation intertwined with the act of killing suggests that exacting revenge is reverent, and therefore necessary to keep true to their faith and code of honor. Furthermore, the parallel structure of the phrase before God and before men furthers the link between faith and honor. By associating the terms God and men with each other, Marquez reveals that the notion of humanity is based on religious conviction. Thus, the only way to retain status as a good human is to follow religious constructs, and in the case of the Vicario brothers, to kill. This idea is furthered in the aftermath of the murder, when Marquez asserts that in killing Santiago, the brothers Vicario had proved their status as men (80). As with religion, honor itself is constantly emphasized as a framework for social hierarchy in the village. In killing Santiago, the brothers cemented not only their faith, but their rank in society as

Panglossianism The term panglossianism describes baseless optimism of the sort exemplified by the beliefs of Pangloss from Voltaire s Candide, which are the opposite of his fellow traveller Martin s pessimism and emphasis on free will. The phrase panglossian pessimism has been used to describe the pessimistic position that, since this is the best of all possible worlds, it is impossible for anything to get any better. Psychological research deals with the research that psychologist have conducted to research and analyze the behavior of individuals. When conducting these researches there are special guidelines which need to be taken. If the researcher fails to meet these guidelines the researchmay be classified as unethical. When conducting psychological research there are many important ethnical guidelines which need to be followed. The researcher should inform consent. It is not enough for researchers to get a yes or no from their participants; the participants need to know exactly what they are agreeing to. Before beginning research, the researcher must make sure they outline what exactly the research is about, and ask their consent before the research begins. Individuals who are 18 older are able to give their own consent, but if the participant is younger than 18 they must have the consent of a parent or legal involves observing individuals at a basketball game, each person does not need consent because guardian to allow their child to participate. In rare cases, inform consent may not be needed but this is only allowed if what is happening could happen to the participant in everyday life. For example, if the research conducted anyone could observe them while they are at the game. Consent forms must have an information sheet attached for participants. This information sheet will explain about the study along

After eight years of selling their menu, the brothers noticed hamburgers were their bestselling item. It was at that time, in 1948, that the McDonald brothers closed down their small car hop to open a burger stand with a streamlined system. The company has taken the title of the world s largest fast food chain and has the profits that show it. In 2012 alone the fast food industry had total revenue of 190.1 billion dollars. In the same year McDonald s had total revenue of 35,600 million, which is over twice as much as the second most profitable company, subway, which had total revenue of 12,100 million. The reason the company make so much more profit than other chains lies in their business model and the company s involvement in real estate. In order to understand the company s involvement in real estate, one must go back to the company s beginnings. In 1956 Ray Kroc was having a hard time making his franchised restaurants profitable, he was not able to acquire the funds to pay both the building of the restaurant and to pay for the land the restaurants would be built on. It was only after Harry J Sonneborn was hired and approached to Kroc with an idea to bring McDonald s into the real estate business. Soon after, the Franchise Realty Corporation was established. Autonomics and Stress Introduction: The autonomic nervous system, which is the division of the central nervous system that is not consciously controlled but regulates bodily functions, is influenced by stress. Stress can be defined as a stimulus that interrupts homeostasis within the body, either physiologically or psychologically. The influence that it has is innovation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) division of the ANS, and can include changes to skin conductance, heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature and respiratory rate1. Under SNS activation, caused by stress, heart rate, skin temperature, respiratory rate, blood pressure and skin conductance will all increase1,2. This experiment aimed to choose a stressor that would influence autonomic measures and record the response. The choice of stressor used in this experiment was invasion of an individual s personal space, measured via skin conductance and heart rate. There is known to be a linear relationship between discomfort or tension and the invasion of personal space3 and this experiment aimed to test this response via autonomic parameters. For example the skin conductance measure would indicate sweat; if conductance increases there is less skin resistance due to the increase in sweat from SNS innovation, caused by the stressor1. The cardiovascular responses observed could be due to an inhibition of parasympathetic activity, activation of SNS or a mixture of both2,3. The null hypothesis for this experiment

Per the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM), Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is defined as a temporary memory loss characterized by an abrupt onset of anterograde (AGA) and retrograde amnesia (RA). In other words, TGA occurs when there is a sudden occurrence of both Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia at the same time. As defined by the JCSM, anterograde amnesia is the acute inability to retain new information and retrograde amnesia is the significant reduction in the ability to recall past events. In studies that concentrated on how Benzodiazepines (a substance used as a sleep aid and an anti anxiety medicine) affected the quality of sleep and memory of events that happen during interrupted sleep periods. Subjects fell back asleep rather quickly, but come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were given to complete earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep, researchers presented undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into sleep. But of course, to ensure sleepiness the students were limited to two hours of sleep the night prior to the experiment. Researchers used an electroencephalograph (EEG), which is a tool to determine one s position in the wake to sleep cycle. Using the EEG researchers determined when their subjects were asleep then either allowed them short periods of sleep or long periods before waking them. Once their subjects were woken up, they tested their memory through recognition. Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of sleep did, in fact, the memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period, in this case, ten minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to them in the five minutes prior to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted as an interruption of the transfer of the memory from short term to long term storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was unavailable to be recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an example of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if subjects were aroused in any way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their words, then it could be that AGA has been induced. What this fails to conclude however is if both
  • 33. The Substitution Mechanisms ( Sn1 And Sn2 ) With Reactions This paper was written in order to relate nucleophilic substitution mechanisms (SN1 and SN2) with reactions that involved converting alcohol containing compounds to alkyl halides. This experiment was conducted by combining the initial alcohol with reagents and heating under reflux when necessary. It was determined that mechanistic pathways of substitution depend principally on the structure of the initial alcohol; that is, substrate is considered primary, secondary, or tertiary. Synthesis of 1 (46%) was achieved through SN2 mechanism from a primary alcohol, while syntheses 2 (97%) and 3 (98%) were completed by SN1 mechanisms from secondary and tertiary alcohols as determined by the presence of rearranged products. Many mechanistic reactions are utilized and are interrelated in order to produce the desired product in an organic synthesis. These mechanisms may be generally categorized2 into the following classes: addition, elimination, substitution, and rearrangement. Of these, substitution reactions are of particular significance in halogenation reactions of alcohol containing compounds, in which the alcohol functional group is replaced by a halide ion (i.e. Cl or Br ). Alcohols are the most common precursors to alkyl halides and signify a very substantial reaction in organic synthesis4. Substitution reactions can occur via two mechanisms2, namely unimolecular nucleophilic substitution(SN1, a stepwise process) and bimolecular nucleophilic substitution (SN2, a

That s where The Carter Center stepped in to aid struggling families in Africa. Led by former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, they were able to bring cures to villages that have none. Some people may say that the Carters just want to gain media attention but I will prove that is not the case. The purpose of this essay is to show why I believe the Carter Center should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The first reason why The Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace prize is they assist people in thousands of villages with diseases that don t have a cure in their country. The biggest epidemic that the Carter Center was involved in was the Guinea worm disease. In just one years time the Center reduced the disease by a whopping 99 percent! This purposely sparks the audience to dive into the depths on the text to crystallize the uncertainties, and as a result, contemplate the meaning of the uncertainty as well. Throughout the story, Chaucer s design constantly appears to shift depending on the particular interpretation of the reading; thus, incites uncertainty for the reader as they attempt to firmly pin down the author s true intention. One of the permeating uncertainties revolves around his character, the Wifeof Bath. Raising the question whether Chaucer was applauding or criticizing her, and the purpose of each option. By looking at multiple literary techniques used in the final passagebefore her tale, we can see that the ending prologue passage acts as a mirror to the final passage of the Wife of Bath s Tale to illustrate the connections between the Wife of Bath and the old womanfrom her tale. Chaucer purposely leaves the audience contemplating the meaning of the colloquial fairy tale with regards to the likelihood of the reality of the Wife of Bath character actually existing to act as a warning to the males of the time period. The place of the cow in modern India is every place on posters, in the movies, in brass figures, in stone and wood carvings, on the streets, in the fields. The cow is a symbol of health and abundance. It provides the milk that Indians consume in the form of yogurt and ghee (clarified butter), which contribute subtle flavors to much spicy Indian food. This, perhaps, is the practical role of the cow, but cows provide less than half the milk produced in India. Most cows in India are not dairy breeds. In most regions, when an Indian farmer wants a steady, high quality source of milk he usually invests in a female water buffalo. In India the water buffalo is the specialized dairy breed because its milk has a higher butterfat content than zebu milk. Although the farmer milks his zebu cows, the milk is merely a by product. . More vital than zebu milk to South Asian farmers are zebu calves. Male calves are especially valued because from bulls come oxen, which are the mainstay of the Indian agricultural system. Small, fast oxen drag wooden plows through late spring fields when monsoons have dampened the dry, cracked earth. After harvest, the oxen break the grain from the stalk by stomping through mounds of cut wheat and rice. In the Concertoin A Minor, he utilizes the popular techniques to effectively engage the audience in the intense and bizarre feelings that come from listening. The intent of this time period was to use drastic dynamic changes, apparent contrast between soloists and orchestra parts, and recurring melodies to effectively evoke emotional responses from the audience. In Vivaldi s Concerto in A Minor First Movement, terraced dynamics are used throughout. Terraced dynamics is a musical style used when volume levels switch abruptly from loud to soft and vise versa without the use of a gradual crescendo, or decrescendo. Such statements tamper with the mind because with enough evidence one can only wonder whether situations in life like that can happen. Throughout the book the confusion only grows more by showing how their suspicion makes them come up with ideas that didn t even happen. When arriving at base and having only one person a group of dogs missing while everyone else is dead can only make someone bring up ideas on who is behind it all. The Plasmodium vivax has a enlarged erythrocyte, Schuffner s dots, and ameboid trophozoites. The Plasmodium ovale is similar to the Plasmodium ovale, it has compact trophozoites, fewer merozoites in schizont, and elongated erythrocytes. The Plasmodium Malariae is a compact parasite and it has merozoites in rosette (Wiser, 2011). To further identify this infectious disease, it can be broken down into its taxonomic classification. It starts with the Kingdom being Protista, Subkingdom being Protozoa, the Phylum being apicomplexa, the Class is sporozoasida, Order is eucoccidiorida, Family is plasmodiidae, Genus being plasmodium and the species being falciparum, malariae, ovale, and vivax. (Keas, 1999). The mechanism of Malariais from a Plasmodium parasite, that originate in female Anopheles mosquitoes, that can spread into humans from the bites of the infected mosquitoes (Mohandas An, 2012). Among the Plasmodia species... only 4 of the over 100 species of plasmodia are infectious to humans. The majority of cases and almost all deaths are caused by Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax,
