This document discusses an Internet of Things platform for open process, open data, and open service. It proposes that an IoT platform needs open standards for the lifecycle of connected things (open process), sharing of thing data (open data), and discovery and access of IoT services (open service). The document outlines GS1 standards that provide global identification of things and a common language for classifying things. It also describes the Oliot open source project, which implements GS1 standards and enhancements for an open IoT architecture based on open process, data, and service.

Internet of Things (IoT) as a Driver for the Circular Economy – Innovation, Q...Erik G. Hansen

An integrated geospatial system, the Dynamic GIS is able to translate change, on the fly, into actionable information. Completely connecting sensors to software and software to application specific solutions (through on-demand web based spatial modeling) ultimately provides a means to protect lives, infrastructure (property), and society. The Dynamic GIS supports the complete geospatial information lifecycle from capture to delivery. Sensor technology captures snapshots of geography for a given location over a period of time; this includes airborne sensors (airborne digital imaging, LiDAR, UAV), satellites, and terrestrial sensors (total station, GPS, video, terrestrial LiDAR, handheld devices). The next step is processing, which includes transforming vector, raster, terrain data into actionable information, with tools for fusing and integrating source content into software applications for the creation and update of geospatial data and information products. Managing, fusing, and sharing geospatial data across departments and regions, enables an organization to connect data and information. Finally, rapidly and securely delivering integrated information products ensures the right individuals can make timely decisions. This includes on-demand geo-processing over the Internet, to mobile clients and the cloud through vertical market-focused SaaS implementations.

Introducing the Vitis Unified Software Platform for Programming FPGAsinside-BigData.com
Since their beginnings, FPGA's have been notorious for being hard to program. That could be changing with the new Vitis Unified Software Platform from Xilinx. Five years in the making, the Vitis unified software platform is designed to allow a whole new user base of software engineers and AI scientists to take advantage of the power of hardware adaptability.
"The Vitis unified software platform automatically tailors the Xilinx hardware architecture to the software or algorithmic code without the need for hardware expertise. Rather than imposing a proprietary development environment, the Vitis platform plugs into common software developer tools and utilizes a rich set of optimized open source libraries, enabling developers to focus on their algorithms. Vitis is separate to the Vivado Design Suite, which will still be supported for those who want to program using hardware code, but Vitis can also boost the productivity of hardware developers by packaging hardware modules as software-callable functions.
With exponentially increasing compute needs, engineers and scientists are often limited by the fixed nature of silicon,” said Victor Peng, president and chief executive officer, Xilinx. “Xilinx has created a singular environment that enables programmers and engineers from all disciplines to co-develop and optimize both their hardware and software, using the tools and frameworks they already know and understand. This means that they can adapt their hardware architecture to their application without the need for new silicon.”

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
