This document discusses open data, processes, and services for an Internet of Things platform. It introduces the Oliot open source project, which aims to provide standardization for data collection, sharing and understanding on the IoT. It describes requirements for open processes, open data, and open services to support a federated IoT ecosystem. Key standards from GS1, an international standards organization, are also discussed in the context of the IoT.
Tutorial: Standardization Efforts for Smart Cities - GS1/ISO/IEC Standards At...Daeyoung Kim
In the Smart Cities Preliminary Report 2014 published by ISO/IEC JTC1, they have emphasized the importance of standardized, computer-recognizable, and actionable open data produced by various city resources. International standardization working groups such as ISO/IEC JTC1, JTC1/SC31 have been establishing new standards and also adopting existing standards for object identification, data modeling, and data acquisition which are the key features of the smart-city data platform.
ISO/IEC data standards have adopted many existing GS1 (Global Standards One) standards. GS1 is an international non-profit organization with 112 member organizations worldwide and more than two million user companies over 40 years. They develop global standards of how to identify, capture, share and use the data of real-world objects in business communication. The best-known standard is the barcode in retails, and they are expanding their area to healthcare, transport and logistics, food service, technical industries, and smart cities.
In this tutorial, we will give the introduction of GS1, and present the GS1’s standardization efforts with use case examples. Topics are as follows; 1) Identification and classification, 2) Semantic vocabulary, 3) Modeling and sharing of city resource metadata, 4) Master data, transaction, and event data modeling, 5) Data sharing system (API, distributed repository), 6) Smart data browsing, 7) Service registration, discovery, and access, 8) Traceability and block chain adoption, 9) Web vocabulary for city data, and 10) Oliot open source project.
Lastly, we would like to introduce Urban Technology Alliance (UTA) that aims to bring a complete smart city ecosystem, concerning various stakeholders such as city and government, industry, academia, non-profit organizations, and the most important, citizen.

A Car as a Semantic Web Thing - Motivation and DemonstrationBenjamin Klotz
Car signal data is usually hard to access, understand
and integrate for non automotive domain experts.
In this paper, we use semantic technologies for enriching
signal data in the automotive industry and access it through
Web of Things interactions. This combination allows the access
and integration of car data from the web.
We built VSSo, a Vehicle Signal ontology based on
SOSA/SSN Observations and Actuations, and generated WoT
Actions, Events and Properties, enriched with domain metadata.
We mapped VSSo to a Web of Things ontology and we
developed a Web of Things protocol binding with LwM2M,
and made an implementation in a real car.
This implementation resulted in a first working prototype,
and a number of future improvements required in order to be
compliant with automotive standards.

Autonomous Drive – From Sensors to Motion
Dr. Marek Jersak received his Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Aachen University of Technology, Germany in 1997. From 1997 to 1999 he worked as a compiler design engineer for Conexant Systems in Newport Beach, California. He returned to school in 1999 and graduated with a PhD in Real-Time Embedded System Design from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany in 2004. Together with his university fellow Kai Richter, in 2005 Marek co-founded Symtavision GmbH in Braunschweig, and in 2013 Symtavision Inc in Michigan, serving as Managing Director respectively President for those companies. Symtavision became a globally recognized leader in Timing Analysis tools and architecture consulting for automotive real- time systems with a focus on chassis, active safety, powertrain, body-control and in-vehicle networking. In February 2016, Marek and Kai sold Symtavision to Luxoft. Marek became director of the newly formed ‘Under the Hood’ practice inside Luxoft Automotive. The practice grew to more than 200 engineers in 1.5 years. At the end of 2017, we repositioned the practice to focus fully on various levels of automated driving, from Level-2 / 3 mass-production ADAS software to architectures and algorithms for Level-4 and ultimately Level-5 autonomous driving. Marek is now fully focused on building the teams, customer relationships and engagement models that enable a seamless, scalable and agile solutions offering from sensors to actuators, spanning co-development with our customers of system and software architectures, algorithms, automotive-grade software, integration, and testing.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
