Global Supremacy Of The Cold War
The Cold War was a fight for global supremacy between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Although it is not exactly clear as to when the Cold War began, it is believed to begin in mid to late
1945. It lasted for forty six years and many historians, politicians, and scholars believe that it was the
third major war of the twentieth century. Billions of dollars were spent and numerous lives were lost
in the fight. The Cold Wars was ignited by the deteriorating relationships of Washington and Moscow.
As World War II ended, the Soviet Union had the intent of expanding its security zone and installing
governments that would pay allegiance to the Kremlin. The United States also had established a
security zone of its own. It has been clear that

Comparing Godwin And Wolstonecraft-Wollstonecraft
This contingency was not unique to Goethe; rather, it continued to shape Romanticism as it spread
through England and Europe from the 1790 s to Queen Victoria s ascension in 1837. The works of the
Godwin Wollstonecraft Shelley family particularly espouse the correlation between children,
education, and women. William Godwin s treatise Enquiry on Political Justice (1793) outlines a theory
of education that illustrates the Romantic fascination with children; like Rousseau, Godwin claims that
children are naturally predisposed to good or are a sort of raw material put into [parents] hands, a
ductile and yielding substance (36 7). Further following Rousseau s example, Godwin places the
potential for moral and political regeneration with children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Whereas Godwin and Wollstonecraft s work only possess traces of the eternal feminine, Shelley
shares Goethe s fascination with the Gothic and the sublime. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein s
cousin and fiancée Elizabeth combines Charlotte and Gretchen into one character. Like Charlotte, the
deaths of her maternal influences force Elizabeth to become a surrogate mother to her young cousin
William. Victor also idealizes Elizabeth in the way Werther worships Charlotte, describing how, Since
the death of her aunt . . . she felt that the most imperious duty of rendering her uncle and cousins
happy, had devolved upon her (2). Here, Elizabeth adheres to Goethe s vision of the virtuous mother
who wholly devotes herself to her children and family. Although Elizabeth possesses Charlotte s moral
purity, her tragic death aligns with Gretchen s fate. Like Gretchen, Elizabeth fails as a mother when
Victor s monster murders her surrogate son, William. While the monster kills Elizabeth to spite Victor,
her death establishes a correlation between her life and status as a mother; if Elizabeth cannot protect
or help her children, she possesses no value as an individual. She simply becomes a disposable prop

Copper Cable versus Fiber Optics
Copper Cable (Ethernet) versus fiber optics
The topic we picked to do our presentation on is fiber optics versus cable, which is better for a
company use and what are the future prospects of fiber optics and cable. We also talked about the
history of DSL, broadband, fiber optics, and dial up. There are both pros and cons with fiber optics
and copper cable. The main point for our research is which would companies choose. During our
research there was many obstacles because it was hard to say why companies would choose fiber
optics or copper cable because it varies from company to company. The start of our research had to be
choosing to talk about the history by showing where it all came from.
History:
The research method we used was the internet and it provided us with relevant, interesting
information. When we started our research we wanted to focus on the history of DSL, dial up,
Broadband, and fiber optics. Starting with dial up, it was created in 1962 by Bell with speeds reaching
300 bits per second. dial up evolved over years into standard 56k modem in about 1996 by Dr. Brent
Townshend. Next, DSL was invented in 1988 by Bellcore, DSL was revolutionary because it proved
that data and phone could be sent at the same time using the same line. The next is Broadband it was
created in 1996 by Roger Communications. Broadband is currently the most widely used way to
transport data. It was used in 70% of homes in the US. Last we talked about the history of fiber

My Life Of Sports
Sports are a substainsal part of my life. As a person, I am very competitive and I love watching sports
almost as much as I love playing them. My two main athletic passions are softball and baton twirling.
I ve been playing softball since I was four, and nothing has been able to tear me from the field ever
since. I love the fast pace of the game, every at bat is exhilarating, and I always am hoping the ball
will come to me on defense. I have met many of my best friends through softball, and I love the
opportunity to be able to work and play a team sport with amazing people and friends. Along with
softball, I also enjoy basketball and football. My basketball career was brief (due to my shortness), but
I follow the NBA and I m a Warriors and Celtics fan. I have always kind of wished I could play
football, but I enjoy watching the Packers and Broncos, and follow college football go Hawks! My life
is immesly influenced by sports, and I can credit sports for an abundance of memories and years of
fun.
My other, more uncommon sport I compete in is baton twirling. Twirling is a rare and complex sport
that not many compete in, and for that reason, I am known to some as that twirler girl . Baton is like
smashing different types of dance, gymnastics, and aerobics into one, then adding one or a few, silver
sticks. It s an incredibly physically demanding activity that requires a great deal of practice,
perseverance, and patience. I started twirling at age three, so this is is

The Symptoms Of Cushing s Syndrome
Cushing s Syndrome
Cushing s Disease or Cushing s Syndrome? Aren t they the same thing? What are they even? Cushing
s disease is a medical condition; a disorder of the pituitary gland causes it to create too much ACTH
(adrenocorticotropic hormone) which in turn leads to overproduction of cortisol. Cushing s Syndrome
is a symptom of Cushing s disease; as well as of other conditions, whether endogenous (originating
from inside the body) or exogenous (originating from outside the body).
Pathophysiology and Etiology
Cushing s Syndrome is the result of overexposure to cortisol, a hormone normally secreted by the
adrenal cortex in a diurnal rhythm, with an increase in times of stress. In Cushing s Syndrome, cortisol
is secreted constantly with no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other factors that may increase the risk of Cushing s disease include obesity, type 2 diabetes, poorly
controlled blood sugar levels and high blood pressure. While none of these factors are a direct cause of
the condition, they are associated with higher prevalence of it. (Endocrine Society, 2016) Cushing s
syndrome is most common in patients on high levels of steroid medications to treat chronic
inflammatory disorders. (Williams, L., Hopper, P., 2015)
Diagnostic Testing
Suspicion may initially result from the characteristic cushingoid appearance in addition to a history of
taking steroids. Levels of cortisol can be tested from saliva or a 24 hour urine collection. Levels of
ACTH in the blood are also measured, along with potassium. Additional tests may be done to locate
the cause, such as a tumor. (Williams, L., Hopper, P., 2015)
Complications
If untreated, Cushing s syndrome may result in bone loss leading to fractures, high blood pressure,
frequent or unusual infections, Type 2 diabetes, and loss of muscle mass and strength. (Mayo Clinic

John Hus Of Bohemia Research Paper
Did you know that the town of Winston Salem, North Carolina, has a connection with Bohemia of
Europe? In 1415, John Hus of Bohemia was burned at the stake for disagreeing with several practices
of the Roman Catholic Church. People who believed as he did were persecuted until they were pushed
from Bohemia into Saxony, the area that is now Germany. Here they were called Moravian .
This persecution continued, and they sought refuge in the New World. In 1753, the Moravians settled
a 100,000 acre tract that they named Wachovia. The area is now part of North Carolina. Salem was to
be its administrative center, and it was to provide a base for their mission work, particularly with
Native Americans.
In 1766, clearing began in order to create a town

Ford Mustang And The Chevrolet Camaro
GM and Ford team up again, but there are other partnerships between automotive rivals to consider.
Who would have thunk it?! For 2017, the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro will share a 10
speed automatic transmission as a result of a collaborative engineering effort between General Motors
and the Ford Motor Company.
How s that again?
In 2013, Detroit s top rivals signed an agreement to jointly develop new 9 and 10 speed automatic
transmissions with front and rear wheel drive variants. The collaborative effort means both companies
are able to design, engineer, establish, test, corroborate and distribute new transmissions at a faster
rate and for a lower cost than they would have on their own.
Improved Performance, Better Efficiency
The effort has yielded a new 10 speed automatic transmission, one that will find its way into various
models over the next few years. That the two competing pony cars will share the same transmission
means one less important edge for both manufacturers. Instead, the two companies will have to find
other ways to beat each other with such factors as horsepower, steering and handling, and
aerodynamics providing key differences.
At the same time, buyers of both models will enjoy two important benefits 10 speed transmissions
provide better off the line acceleration with a shorter first gear and improved fuel economy with the
taller top gears. (Jim, see the Popular Mechanics explanation) Incidentally, the 10 speed will be the

FBR-Beige Book Summary
With the looming threat of an economic recession, action needs to be taken to try to minimize the
potential damage. Subprime loans to finance mortgage backed securities have brought instability to
the real estate market. Banks have had to implement tighter lending standards to residential mortgages
to try to offset this instability ( FBR Beige Book Summary, 2007). Though several banks have
reported tighter credit conditions on the commercial real estate market, credit availability and credit
quality remained promising for most borrowers ( FBR Beige Book Summary, 2007). Besides the
turbulence in the real estate market, uncertainty in other financial markets have had a minimal effect
on recent economic activity ( FBR Beige Book Summary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subprime mortgage loans issued by banks to finance mortgage backed securities have led to a huge
increase in both housing prices and the quantity of houses being built. If housing prices climb too high
above their economic value, there will be no incentive for people to pay their mortgage. Borrowers
may decide to default on their housing loans, and this will lead to a crisis in the real estate market
which could result in a drastic decline of economic performance. The Federal Open Market
Committee has a target of decreasing the federal funds rate 50 basis points, from 5.25 percent to 4.75
percent, and also decreasing the discount rate 50 basis points from 5.75 percent to 5.25 percent (

The Death Cure In The Maze Runner
In the book The Death Cure, which is the forth book the in The Maze Runner series, Thomas and his
friends are fighting against the Wicked. In the previous books Thomas and his friends are put to
dangerous test that could get them killed. Thomas has no memory of his life before the tests. This
book starts off as Thomas being locked in a room for multiple weeks, another one of the Wicked s
tests. After three weeks a man called the Rat man enters the room and tell Thomas he has the Flare
disease. Thomas doesn t know he is immune to the flare disease and isn t harmed by it. He is then able
to meet up with his friends from the Maze. Thomas and his friends break out of wicked and travel to
Denver to try to find a cure for the Flare but the wicked attempt to capture them once again. They join

Like in the beginning of the book when he was trapped in a room. It was the smell that began to drive
Thomas slightly mad. Not being alone for over three weeks. Not the white walls, celling and floor

the awkwardness between Teresa and Thomas. Thomas can t trust Teresa because she betrayed him
back in the Scorch when she worked with wicked. Although Teresa went behind Thomas back he still
has feelings for her and he can t get her out of his head. Teresa thinks that the wicked are actually
trying to find a safe cure and her help is needed. I can visualize the hideous sights of the Crank Palace.
The Crank Palace was a horrible, filthy place (Dashner 172). All people with the Flare disease are sent
to the Crank Palace where they wait for their death. Despite all odds Thomas best friend Newt was
sent to the Crank Palace. I can visualize the disbelief when Thomas finds a note from Newt telling him

Religious and Ethnic Diversity
Mormonism is a uniquely American religion, have been founded by Joseph Smith Jr., of New York (
The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints , 2013). Mormonism originated in the 1820s, as
described by the Church s website, when Joseph Smith Jr. was confused and frustrated by the various
Christian religions and was unable to choose one to follow. He turned to the Bible, which told him to
ask God when he lacked wisdom. So he prayed to God, and was visited by the Heavenly Father and
his Son, Jesus Christ. According to one of the members of the governing body of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bruce McConkie (1958), Mormonism is ... Show more content on

All ethnicities, at one time or another, have suffered from prejudice at the hands of another ethnic
group.
Most African Americans living in the United States today have ties to slavery, meaning that they are
the descendants of slaves. Following that back even further, a huge majority of the entire immigration
of Black people to the Americas was through the transatlantic slave trade. Throughout our country s
history, Black people have faced discrimination and prejudice, which they have fought to overcome.
The greatest advancement towards overcoming this discrimination was the abolishment of slavery
during The Civil Way. However, being freed did not mean that they were able to live as freely as other
Americans. The battle for other rights and an end to segregation lasted another century. Even today,
discrimination against Black people is all too prolific.
In any case, whether a religious group, a racial group, or an ethnic group, prejudice and discrimination
has the same basic causes. One group attempts to give themselves a better opportunity through the
oppression of another group, or one group lacks understanding in regards to another group. The only
solutions to prejudice is through understanding, critical thinking, and diversity.

My Birth Kahlo Analysis
Kahlo said, My painting carried with it the message of pain. Painting completed my life. I lost three
children. Painting substituted for all this (Ashton Dore, 1990). She left childbirth, a physical act, in an
image through constantly noticing the relationship between her physical experiences and her paintings
and being absorbed into actions of creation borne from her pain. It is almost difficult to find works of
art that depict this theme as honestly as Kahlo in Western art history. My Birth (1932) (Figure 24)
shows a front view of a woman delivering a baby (Souter Gerry, 2011, p. 60). Between the woman s
wide open legs is the head of a grown up Kahlo covered with blood and looking almost dead. A sheet

The first generation of feminists tried to reevaluate and praise the value of feminine attributes,
especially the female body, differentiated from masculine attributes and feminine experiences with an
essentialist attitude. Kahlo was praised as a legendary feminist artist, as the women inside her self
portraits are not passive objects for men s visual satisfaction but active observers who look closely
into their minds. As mentioned above as well, the female artists dilemma is that they are not only the
subject of painting but also the object being observed. Amid art history, established and dominated by
men, instead of depicting men as her competitors, Kahlo visualized the introspection of herself in her
paintings. She did not limit her role to competing with men, but she unfolded her sad personal history
in her unique way. Among them, the image of women depicted in Self Portrait with Curly Hair (1935)
(Figure 25) and Self Portrait with Cropped Hair (1940) (Figure 2) are not at all passive. It is in line
with the effort made by feminists involved in the early feminist art movement, which was to change
the passive and negative female image created by men. Kahlo is a true feminist artist as she delivered
truth observed through women s eyes in the period in which only truth seen through men s eyes was
accepted. She painted pondering women amid her suffering. She had a special ability to connect
femininity and masculinity, and this ability appeared in her painting (Bakewell Lisa,

The civil rights movement was a struggle by African Americans in the 1950s to late 1960s to receive

Research Of Consumption Patterns And Wealth Accumulation
Research linking consumption patterns and wealth accumulation has focused on the US (Gourinchas
and Parker, 2002; Cagetti, 2003). However, given the large difference in capital to income ratios
between the US and UK (Piketty and Zucman, 2014), it is possible that UK wealth accumulation
dynamics differ from those in the US. Hence, the strength and timing of the precautionary and life
cycle savings motives in the UK require further exploration.
However, UK data on wealth are ``seriously incomplete (Crossley and O Dea, 2016) and hence
econometric analysis is impossible. This is because cross sectional data cannot be used to analyse life
cycle consumption behaviour (Banks, Dilnot and Low, 1994) and WAS, the only UK panel dataset on

Furthermore, there is a large literature regarding the role of the income distribution (Parker {it et al.},
2013; Broda and Parker, 2014), liquidity (Agarwal and Qian, 2014; Kreiner {it et al.}, 2016) and
employment status (Japelli and Pistaferri, 2014) in determining the consumption response to fiscal
stimulus. However, few authors consider the role the wealth distribution has to play in determining the
efficacy of fiscal policy.
When work has been conducted, it has often yielded counterintuitive results. In particular, Kaplan and
Violante (2014) fail to find a strong relationship between wealth and the marginal propensity to
consume out of transitory shocks to income (MPC), contrary to empirical evidence from Japelli and
Pistaferri (2014) that the MPC is strongly negatively related to levels of cash on hand. Indeed, recent
work by Carroll {it et al.} (2016) estimates that the MPC is declining in wealth percentile.
Consequently, there is no consensus in the literature regarding the effectiveness of wealth targeted
fiscal policy. Furthermore, no studies have been conducted that examine the relative effectiveness of
wealth targeting and income targeting. This paper is a step in addressing these two questions.
Finally, it is common for economists to use existing root finding

The Main Themes Of Helen By Hilda Doolittle
I chose the poem Helen by Hilda Doolittle because it revolves around the central theme of hate, which
the main character receives from her society as a whole. The poem relates to Medea s excerpt because
both depict how the main characters are despised by their societies. As well, both emphasize the
critical role that gender plays in directing this hate. As a result, they both identify the same stereotype
of women trending in society: women are dangerous. The theme, content, and tone of the poem and
Medea s excerpt make them relatively comparable.
Although both the excerpt and the poem are similar, yet they are distinct from one another. To be able

The poem Helen was written in 1924, but its main character, Helen, lives in the same era as Medea. In
431 B.C., women had no rights, they were isolated from public life, and their main role in life was to
bear children. They were thought of as mischievous and evil. For instance, Semonides from Samos
describes Helen (Zeus daughter) as a plague, which reflects his view on women in general: Yet, this is
the worst plague Zeus has made, and he has bound us to them with a fetter that cannot be broken.
Because of this some have gone to Hades fighting for a woman. This echoes the society s common
stereotype about women: women are to be afraid of; they are to be condemned for their strength,

The 1968 Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War
The 1968 Tet Offensive was a series of battles which took place during the Vietnam War where the
North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the National Liberation Front (NLF) attacked the Army of the
Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and U.S. Forces in South Vietnam. This major offensive by the
Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) forces which were initiated on January 30th of 1968 in
coordination with Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The offensive is historically labeled as a military
defeat for the DRV forces while ultimately being a strategic victory through it s ability to turn major
American public opinion against support of the war effort in Vietnam. Johnson s decision to halt
escalation after the Tet Offensive marked a crucial turning point in American participation in the
Vietnam War. (History.com Staff 2009)

by the American public that an enemy in retreat could not launch such a large offensive, and
inherently this caused great concern over the situation in Vietnam. The images of the American

estimates and reports emanating from Washington in the period just prior to the attacks contributed to
the interpretation of the Tet Offensive as a political and moral defeat for the U.S. (Walton, J.

Issues In The Waiting Room
The Waiting Room is a documentary about the truth of public hospitals. This film follows the patients,

staff work as hard as they can to treat all the patients possible, we come to the realization that there is
a major shortage in the needed room space, and supplies to treat all of these patients in a timely
manner. Our healthcare system is very flawed in the way it treats the people in need, and there is no
way of knowing if there will be any major change to help these people get the care they need.

Because there is such a high number of people without insurance they usually don t get the treatments
they need, and if they do receive treatment, it usually follows a very long wait, and they are not the

We get to witness the real struggle of multiple different patients, all with different levels of severity
for their visit. The first patient that stood out was a father who lost his job the previous year and didn t
have any health insurance for him or his kids. He had to take his very ill daughter to the public ER ,
and because she was on the lower side of severity, they had to wait for hours just to get seen by a

Another story that stood out was the man who had to wait in a full waiting room with a bullet in his
leg. This man had a deadly object in his body and he still had to wait for hours just to be seen by a
doctor. He had to wait because the hospital had no room to put him in. Even if you re the first one to

severe your situation is, so they could have a patient waiting in the waiting room for many hours, just

My Classroom Analysis
As a future educator, I will definitely use tons of technology in my classroom! Technology is growing
so rapidly, and it important to make sure students are comfortable using it. For students to be
successful outside of school, they need to know how to use technology and communicate effectively
online. It is very important to me that I continue to learn more about educational technology tools, so I
can incorporate current technologies in my classroom. Continually learning about new technologies is
a great way to engage in personal growth. I have learned so much in this class alone about educational
technologies from this class alone, and I know there is still so much out there for me to learn about.
This course has given me tons of ideas for different tools I will employ in my classroom. BrainPop is
an awesome tool, I love that it is filled with educational games but it also gives the teachers lesson
plans to incorporate it into your state educational standards. Educreations is another tool that I will be

I want my students to feel comfortable interacting with different tech devices. I would love them to
not only have access to computers, but tablets, smart boards, etc. Technology is a great way for
students to get creative, when it comes to education. Online apps that we have used in this course like
the storytelling applications are a great way for students to get creative and come up with stories to tell
on their own. Also, giving students the ability to 3D print characters from their stories is a way to get
students thinking creatively, and more interested in storytelling. This is a tool I hope as an educator I
will get to use with my

How Did Palladio Influence Architecture
Palladio s influence on architects and recognition
Architectural community as well as public sees Palladio s work as attractive mainly because of the
sheer beauty of his architecture. Beauty that does not have to be explained nor justified. Palladio is
often labelled as the most influential architect in history mainly due to his dominance in architectural
development from Renaissance until present day (Scruton, 2013). Many tried to directly imitate his
work however only Palladio could benefit from prestige on a scale he has received, mostly because he
was the first European architect who worked out many variations on a basic theme to build separate
structures and on his own. Some buildings, built with symmetry in accordance with Palladio, however

His work is often recognised as work around geometrical rules. It s about tight and tidy synthesis
whilst using workable and logical grammar. There are ongoing discussions on what the rules may be
as he only ever described a few, but nonetheless they imply he had an extraordinary mind. Like many
influential artists, Palladio has measured, calculated, mirrored and counted to execute perfection
(Tavernor, 2005). Palladio s plans and facades are hypothesised to be ideal, harmonic. This ideal is
reached by an assembly of ideal shapes and dimensions, whilst taking into an account that some
numbers are more noble in Renaissance than others (Hersey and Freedman, 1992). He used
mathematical tools as devices whilst working on his designs. In order to appreciate his work fully, the
concept of symmetry and proportion is to be viewed as the key to understanding. Palladio s work was
inspired by Roman times, although build with nature in mind. The buildings are regarded as an
exercise in pure form rather than models of themselves, they fulfilled and embodied the ideal and
harmony of the magnificence own to upper class. The high class life in Palladio s buildings became a
standard and was not viewed as anything peculiar or out of place. The reason why this way of life was
widely accepted was that Italy in 16th century was not spiritual nor moral, it was political and

Coli And The General Mills Outbreak Essay
Introduction to E. Coli and the General Mills Outbreak.
After reports of foodborne illnesses were observed from December 21, 2015 to September 5, 2016, the
FDA initiated investigations which led to a trace back to the source of the outbreak which were
various flours manufactured by General Mills. After the trace back, in May 2016, General Mills led a
voluntary recall of its flour due to the presence of pathogens E. coli O121 and E. coli O26.
E. coli O121 and O26 are toxin producing Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) that are gram
negative and rod shaped as can be seen in figure 1 below. Although most E. coli are harmless and are
found naturally in the gastrointestinal tracts of mammals, however, E. coli O121 and O26 are
pathogenic, meaning they can cause illness.
Figure 1: Microbial Structure of a general E. coli bacteria.
According to the bad bug book, the incubation period for these pathogens range from 2 to 8 days after
consumption of the contaminated product. After consumption, symptoms such as diarrhea and
abdominal cramps develop which are often overcome by healthy adults within a week. However, the
most susceptible and vulnerable of the population, immunocompromised people, may experience
more severe consequences such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
In this particular case, due to the nature of the product, the long shelf life of flour and the tendency for
consumers to store the product for long periods before consumption, it is most likely that

Robots And The Robot Robots
In the mid 1970 s second generation robots were introduced. As these robots became more advanced
they were equipped with internal sensors which gave them a major advantage over first generation
robots. This new technology gave them increased information about the world around them. Robots
use sensors to detect changes around them and to respond to their surroundings based on the
information they receive from certain sensors. There are many types of sensors that perform a variety
of tasks by transforming mechanical, heat, and light energies into electrical signals. The signals
produced by sensors communicate to the robot on how it should respond to different situations. This
gives the robot a higher sense of intelligence and adaptive skills by providing more information about
its environment. These skills allow the robot to change their manipulator location and the position of
its end effector so that it can work around obstructions in its work envelope. The robot s surroundings,
the precision needed, and what must be sensed all help decide what type of sensor must be used for
the robot. Depending on these credentials, robots could be equipped with light, optical, sound, or
temperature sensors. Light is a form of radiation that makes up a group of frequencies in the
electromagnetic spectrum that we can see. Robots can react to this form of radiation by using light
sensors. Light sensors respond to variations in light energy by applying many types of opto electronic

The Treaty Of Berlin Conference Essay
From the mid 1400s to the mid 1700s, Europe established many trade ports in Africa, but no
colonization actually took place, and the few colonies that did exist were along the coastline. In the
last half of the 19th century, this all began to change. European countries began to invade Africa s
interior. By 1870, about 10% of Africa was under European control, and in just 20 short years, this
number grew to almost 90%. Every European country wanted a slice of Africa, and this became
known as the scramble for Africa. To avoid war between the European countries, The Berlin
Conference was held from 1884 1885. This allowed the Europeans to carve Africa into colonies. As a
direct result of this, the political and economic ways of Africa were drastically changed for many
years to come.
During The Berlin Conference, the Treaty of Berlin was drafted. This document laid out the ground
work for how Africa would be divided among Europe. The conference lasted until February 26, 1885
this was a time when the great powers of most of Western Europe argued over setting the boundaries
for how they should divide Africa . Over fourteen countries were represented when the conference
began on November 15, 1884, and by the end, Africa was divided into about fifty countries . Otto von
Bismark, chancellor of the German Empire, was in charge of settling the subdivision of Africa
between the European countries . His main goal was to ...not only to expand German spheres of
influence in Africa

Joint Commission- National Patient Safety Goals
Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
Kathy Linkous

Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
The Joint Commission focuses on certain goals each year. For patient safety and positive outcomes,
hospitals are required to follow certain standards. National Patient Safety Goals were established in
2002 to help identify areas of concern with patient safety. This group is made up by a panel of experts
including nurses, doctors, pharmacists and many other healthcare professionals. They advise the Joint
Commission on how to address these different patient safety issues. Two goals to be discussed are
improving the accuracy of patient identification and medication safety. To improve patient ... Show

However, there are issues with this system as well because the computer is only as smart as we allow
it to be. If pharmacy puts in the computer the wrong medication or dose, or information is incorrect,
the computer will still allow you to administer. It goes back to communication, knowing your patient
and how important it is to still ask questions and have conversation with your patient about the
medication you are about to give them. Read their history and physical to get a better idea of
everything going on with your patient so we can continue to provide safe quality care.
Goal three by the National Patient Safety Goal for 2014 is to use medicines safely. Many errors occur
regularly with medications which is why communication is so important with the doctors, nurses and
patients. One process that Joint Commission requires in accredited HCO s is medication reconciliation
creating the most accurate list possible off all medications a patient is taking, including drug name,
dosage, frequency, and route, and comparing that list against the physician s admission, transfer,
and/or discharge orders with the goal of providing correct medications to the patients at all transition
points within the hospital (Finkelman Kenner, 2012, p. 388) . Ensuring medication reconciliation to
the patient, health providers and any new consults that are

The Is A Cure For Deafness
Imagine a life without hearing, waking up everyday in silence. Would you embrace your deafness,
have a hearing aid, or have a cochlear implant? Surely, all of these options are personal preferences;
however, one is better than the others: the cochlear implant operation, in a way, is a cure for deafness.
Having an opportunity to fully hear in both of your ears can open many gateways into your life; the
troubles of finding a school, a job, and doing basic things such as listening to music or driving a car
would be made easier. The cochlea is the auditory portion in your inner ear, usually identified as a
spiral like a snail shell. The cochlear implant contains two parts: the inner and outer. The inner part,
also known as the receiver, is where the surgery comes into play. The receiver is placed under the skin
above your ear where the surgeon carves a little part of the skull out for the magnet to lay in. The outer
part, also known as the processor, is worn on the ear and connects to the magnet in your skull. The
processor analyzes sound, sends it to the receiver inside your skull, which sends electrodes to the
auditory nerves (Chorost). Therefore, it would be very hard to lose the cochlear implant whereas a
hearing aid is very easy to lose. The hearing aid can be uncomfortable to wear all the time, the
batteries die quickly, and you can not get it wet. The cochlear implant can have some discomfort such
as a headache, and a stiff neck that lasts for a few days after the

Under Title IX, a school is permitted to provide certain sex segregated areas, such as restrooms and
housing, as well as certain single sex classes and sports teams. Transgender students must be allowed
to participate in activities and access facilities consistent with their gender identity. Restrooms: While
a school may make individual user restrooms an option, they are not permitted to require transgender
students to use these facilities, or restrooms inconsistent with their gender identity when other students
are not required to do so. Athletics: Title IX regulations allow a school to sponsor sex segregated
sports based on competitive skill, level of contact, and/or relevant research based medical knowledge

Seaworld Inhumane
SeaWorld should be shut down for its cruel, and inhumane methods of keeping and training animals.
Orcas, dolphins, and other animals are used like machines, and not living things. They are confined to
tiny tanks, taken away from their homes and their families, and forced to perform for the
entertainment of people. Orcas at SeaWorld would need to swim 950 times around the bathtub like
tanks that they are kept in just to equal half of the distance that they would swim in the wild. Due to
the tiny tanks, orcas are seen with rake marks . Rake marks are painful gashes that occur when one
whale drags it s teeth across across another whale s body. Since the whales will often get irritated with
each other, fights will occur, but the whales have no where to escape to. No where to go. Imagine

Pinnipeds are living lives of misery as well. Pinniped is another word for fin footed mammal .
Walruses, seals, and seal lions are all pinnipeds. Walruses have shown signs of psychological issues,

These things are rarely, and almost never documented in the wild. Seals and sea lions are given no
shade in their enclosures to protect them from the sun, which can result in stress, sunburn, and eye
damage. Lastly, the dolphins. I have never met a person who didn t love dolphins. Who wouldn t adore
these sociable and intelligent animals? Like orcas, dolphins swim miles and miles every day while out
in the wild, but at SeaWorld they are kept in tiny concrete tanks with nothing to do but listen to the
sound of their own echolocation bouncing off the walls back at them. Only in the past ten years, sixty
two bottlenose dolphins have died at SeaWorld. Their petting pools allow the public to pet, and even

Career Development and Life Planning
Final Reflection
Signing up for Career Development was one of the best choices I made this semester (probably the
only one). Not only was this class informational and productive, I was able to gain a different outlook
on why I am in school. The book that we read in class, You Majored in What also helped me to
confirm why I choose the major that I am taking now. I learned things from Chaos theory to how to
succeed in an interview. The class taught me viable life lessons and helped prepared me to face real
world situations in my career.
In college, you decide what you would like to major in. After choosing a major, you take the classes
needed and hopefully get a degree right? Wrong. One day you may wake up and ask yourself is this
what you want to do for the rest of your life? This is the part you go to your counselor and change
your major. It may even come to a point where you may not even use the degree that you spent all
those years in school for in the job you have. Bottom line is life is not linear. You might major in
Biology and hope to be a Doctor but end up working for the government. This is what Chaos theory is.
Just like meteorologist predicts the weather, we as humans try to predict where we will be 5 10 years
down the line. But as we see changes on our path, we begin to assess the situation differently and
adapt to those changes. As a computer science major, I plan on working for either

New York. She spent much of her life in the animation business mainly working in the ink and paint
department and other associated activities at various studios, eventually compiling over fifty years in
the Hollywood industry. Moving to California in 1926 where by chance living around the corner from
Leon Schlesinger s Pacific Title and Art company, she ran errands for the staff at around the age of 12.
On July 13, 1936, she became a painter at Leon Schlesinger Productions, home of Looney Tunes and

Analysis Of Francois Hutteau s Great Search For Liberty
Francois Hutteau s great search for Liberty
Hello my French brothers and sisters! Dark times have befallen our precious land, and pure chaos has
ensued. I write to the people in France in hopes of establishing a new land. A land that can be looked
upon proudly with eyes of great virtue. In order to achieve our wildest dreams we must sort through
the rubbish that has landed us here in the first place. How will we as a society react to the many things
that have been dealt to the people of France? Perhaps our great fight ends in bloodshed, and broken
promises. Or perhaps we could take heed of the laws and policies our fellow Europeans across the
Sea. I had the pleasure of visiting one of the cities in America that the citizens take so much pride in:
Boston, Massachusetts. A port town on the North Eastern coast that was a large part of the American
Revolution. It was also home to the Notorious Boston Massacre. There are a number of things that I
enjoyed about my trip, but pointing out the differences between Boston and France had to be the most
delectable part of my trip. The way in which they practice religion is something to behold. Their new
Constitution is also no laughing matter, and lastly the many things Americans find fun is mesmerizing,
and also repulsive. America is a tremendous place and I cannot wait to guide you through my journey
and inferences.
The first voyage I made when I got off the boat was directly towards a church. I decided to visit the
Old North Church and as I approached I noticed that the brick work seemed to glisten in the sun, and
the white interior reminded me of how pure the world can really be. The church practiced
Protestantism, and started soon after the War.[1] I admired the way in which the citizens praised God,
but I did happen to notice that their practices were rather different from my own. After talking to some
of the Americans most had either commented on my accent or expressed their condolences to the
revolution. I also asked them about how they worship and how they choose to worship. Many of these
American citizens were free to choose what they wanted to worship. Most did say that they would be
judged for their religious decisions, but were never forced into doing

Helium Research Paper
Helium is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless gas. It has some very unique properties. Helium has the
lowest boiling point of all the elements at 268.9C, or 452.0F. Its freezing point is 272.2C, or 458.0F.
Helium is the only gas that can not be turned to a solid by lowering its temperature. To make helium
solid you have to increase its temperature. When helium is at a temperature of 271C, it is a liquid but
it has superfluidity properties. This means that liquid helium flows it doesn t exert friction and it can
leak through containers. Helium is also an inert gas, it doesn t react chemically with any element or
form bonds. Helium floats because it is lighter than the air around us. A liter of helium weighs way
less than a gram. It only weighs 0.18 grams. A liter of the air around weighs ... Show more content on

It may be funny, but research shows it is not all that safe. When you breath in helium it displaces the
air in your lungs and there is no way to get oxygen. This is dangerous because it could cause your
oxygen levels to drop very low. When your oxygen levels drop you could become very dizzy and
disoriented. It could also cause an abnormal heartbeat, unconsciousness, or even death. This is all if
you just breathe it normally. If you breathe helium deeply, or directly from a container that is
pressurized, it could cause a blockage of a blood vessel which could lead to having a stroke, seizures,
or death. It could also burst the air sacs in your lungs. In that case you die because you would drown
in your own blood.
Helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, but there is a shortage on earth. In one of
the main helium reservoirs in the U.S. there was only 10 12 billion cubic feet of helium left in it, as of
2012. Even though this seems like a lot, we use around 2 billion cubic feet of helium per year. So
technically that reservoir would be getting very very close to

Differences Between The Governmental Accounting Standard...
Comparing and Contrasting The Difference Between GASB and FASB By: Chris Lawson Keiser
University For as long as human interactions have allowed the exchange of value between goods or
services, accountancy has been the language of which business transactions are speaking (Salem,
2013). Accounting keeps track of and explains how money is used by non profit organizations, for
profit businesses, governments and other individuals. Sounds simple enough right? Well, in all reality
it is not that simple. Nowadays, there are many different forms of accounting let alone different set of
standards that certain, and sometimes all, organizations must follow. Today there are two main
standard setters in the United States that is responsible for providing up to date standards for its
corresponding organizations. Although these two standards are very similar in nature, they are also
very different when it comes to their own individual reporting requirements. Throughout the rest of
this paper I will not only compare and contrast the differences between the Governmental Accounting
Standard Board (GASB) and the Financial Accounting Standard Board (FASB), but also how they
differ when it comes to their reporting requirements. To get a better understanding of who these
standard setters are, let s go over a brief history and background of these two accounting standard
boards. The first standard board to be discussed is FASB. FASB was created in 1973, after the

Religious Factors Have A Great Deal Of Influence On...
Religious factors have had a great deal of influence on politics in Latin American countries. In most
countries religion has helped to set the value structure of their society by helping to frame what the
citizens should expect out of their lives and what they should expect from the government. Today here
are a variety of religions practiced in Latin America including Catholicism, Protestantism, Voodoo,
Santería, Judaism, as well as indigenous religions. In order to combat religion s influence on Latin
American politics the anti clericalism movement began in colonial times. Anti clericalism is defined as
the opposition to the clergy for its real or alleged influence in both political and social affairs
(Britannica, 2009). It should be noted that although anti clericalism is often associated with anti
Catholicism, anti Christianity, anti deism, irreligiosity, and atheism they are not the same. Butler
(2009) noted that we could hold the Catholic responsible for encouraging the association between anti
clericalism and anti Catholicism to their followers. Secularism is also often associated with anti
clericalism, which rejects all forms of religion in civil affairs. Fallaw (2009) notes that it is hard to tell
where anti clericalism and secularism began and end. According to Bantjes, 2009 anti clericalism s
target was the privileged status of a clerical caste who are viewed as hypocritical and immoral.
Historically religion and politics have been intertwined in government in

  • 2. Global Supremacy Of The Cold War The Cold War was a fight for global supremacy between the United States and the Soviet Union. Although it is not exactly clear as to when the Cold War began, it is believed to begin in mid to late 1945. It lasted for forty six years and many historians, politicians, and scholars believe that it was the third major war of the twentieth century. Billions of dollars were spent and numerous lives were lost in the fight. The Cold Wars was ignited by the deteriorating relationships of Washington and Moscow. As World War II ended, the Soviet Union had the intent of expanding its security zone and installing governments that would pay allegiance to the Kremlin. The United States also had established a security zone of its own. It has been clear that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Godwin And Wolstonecraft-Wollstonecraft This contingency was not unique to Goethe; rather, it continued to shape Romanticism as it spread through England and Europe from the 1790 s to Queen Victoria s ascension in 1837. The works of the Godwin Wollstonecraft Shelley family particularly espouse the correlation between children, education, and women. William Godwin s treatise Enquiry on Political Justice (1793) outlines a theory of education that illustrates the Romantic fascination with children; like Rousseau, Godwin claims that children are naturally predisposed to good or are a sort of raw material put into [parents] hands, a ductile and yielding substance (36 7). Further following Rousseau s example, Godwin places the potential for moral and political regeneration with children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas Godwin and Wollstonecraft s work only possess traces of the eternal feminine, Shelley shares Goethe s fascination with the Gothic and the sublime. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein s cousin and fiancée Elizabeth combines Charlotte and Gretchen into one character. Like Charlotte, the deaths of her maternal influences force Elizabeth to become a surrogate mother to her young cousin William. Victor also idealizes Elizabeth in the way Werther worships Charlotte, describing how, Since the death of her aunt . . . she felt that the most imperious duty of rendering her uncle and cousins happy, had devolved upon her (2). Here, Elizabeth adheres to Goethe s vision of the virtuous mother who wholly devotes herself to her children and family. Although Elizabeth possesses Charlotte s moral purity, her tragic death aligns with Gretchen s fate. Like Gretchen, Elizabeth fails as a mother when Victor s monster murders her surrogate son, William. While the monster kills Elizabeth to spite Victor, her death establishes a correlation between her life and status as a mother; if Elizabeth cannot protect or help her children, she possesses no value as an individual. She simply becomes a disposable prop that resolves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Copper Cable versus Fiber Optics Copper Cable (Ethernet) versus fiber optics The topic we picked to do our presentation on is fiber optics versus cable, which is better for a company use and what are the future prospects of fiber optics and cable. We also talked about the history of DSL, broadband, fiber optics, and dial up. There are both pros and cons with fiber optics and copper cable. The main point for our research is which would companies choose. During our research there was many obstacles because it was hard to say why companies would choose fiber optics or copper cable because it varies from company to company. The start of our research had to be choosing to talk about the history by showing where it all came from. History: The research method we used was the internet and it provided us with relevant, interesting information. When we started our research we wanted to focus on the history of DSL, dial up, Broadband, and fiber optics. Starting with dial up, it was created in 1962 by Bell with speeds reaching 300 bits per second. dial up evolved over years into standard 56k modem in about 1996 by Dr. Brent Townshend. Next, DSL was invented in 1988 by Bellcore, DSL was revolutionary because it proved that data and phone could be sent at the same time using the same line. The next is Broadband it was created in 1996 by Roger Communications. Broadband is currently the most widely used way to transport data. It was used in 70% of homes in the US. Last we talked about the history of fiber ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Life Of Sports Sports are a substainsal part of my life. As a person, I am very competitive and I love watching sports almost as much as I love playing them. My two main athletic passions are softball and baton twirling. I ve been playing softball since I was four, and nothing has been able to tear me from the field ever since. I love the fast pace of the game, every at bat is exhilarating, and I always am hoping the ball will come to me on defense. I have met many of my best friends through softball, and I love the opportunity to be able to work and play a team sport with amazing people and friends. Along with softball, I also enjoy basketball and football. My basketball career was brief (due to my shortness), but I follow the NBA and I m a Warriors and Celtics fan. I have always kind of wished I could play football, but I enjoy watching the Packers and Broncos, and follow college football go Hawks! My life is immesly influenced by sports, and I can credit sports for an abundance of memories and years of fun. My other, more uncommon sport I compete in is baton twirling. Twirling is a rare and complex sport that not many compete in, and for that reason, I am known to some as that twirler girl . Baton is like smashing different types of dance, gymnastics, and aerobics into one, then adding one or a few, silver sticks. It s an incredibly physically demanding activity that requires a great deal of practice, perseverance, and patience. I started twirling at age three, so this is is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Symptoms Of Cushing s Syndrome Cushing s Syndrome Cushing s Disease or Cushing s Syndrome? Aren t they the same thing? What are they even? Cushing s disease is a medical condition; a disorder of the pituitary gland causes it to create too much ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) which in turn leads to overproduction of cortisol. Cushing s Syndrome is a symptom of Cushing s disease; as well as of other conditions, whether endogenous (originating from inside the body) or exogenous (originating from outside the body). Pathophysiology and Etiology Cushing s Syndrome is the result of overexposure to cortisol, a hormone normally secreted by the adrenal cortex in a diurnal rhythm, with an increase in times of stress. In Cushing s Syndrome, cortisol is secreted constantly with no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other factors that may increase the risk of Cushing s disease include obesity, type 2 diabetes, poorly controlled blood sugar levels and high blood pressure. While none of these factors are a direct cause of the condition, they are associated with higher prevalence of it. (Endocrine Society, 2016) Cushing s syndrome is most common in patients on high levels of steroid medications to treat chronic inflammatory disorders. (Williams, L., Hopper, P., 2015) Diagnostic Testing Suspicion may initially result from the characteristic cushingoid appearance in addition to a history of taking steroids. Levels of cortisol can be tested from saliva or a 24 hour urine collection. Levels of ACTH in the blood are also measured, along with potassium. Additional tests may be done to locate the cause, such as a tumor. (Williams, L., Hopper, P., 2015) Complications If untreated, Cushing s syndrome may result in bone loss leading to fractures, high blood pressure, frequent or unusual infections, Type 2 diabetes, and loss of muscle mass and strength. • 7. John Hus Of Bohemia Research Paper Did you know that the town of Winston Salem, North Carolina, has a connection with Bohemia of Europe? In 1415, John Hus of Bohemia was burned at the stake for disagreeing with several practices of the Roman Catholic Church. People who believed as he did were persecuted until they were pushed from Bohemia into Saxony, the area that is now Germany. Here they were called Moravian . This persecution continued, and they sought refuge in the New World. In 1753, the Moravians settled a 100,000 acre tract that they named Wachovia. The area is now part of North Carolina. Salem was to be its administrative center, and it was to provide a base for their mission work, particularly with Native Americans. In 1766, clearing began in order to create a town ... • 8. Ford Mustang And The Chevrolet Camaro GM and Ford team up again, but there are other partnerships between automotive rivals to consider. Who would have thunk it?! For 2017, the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro will share a 10 speed automatic transmission as a result of a collaborative engineering effort between General Motors and the Ford Motor Company. How s that again? In 2013, Detroit s top rivals signed an agreement to jointly develop new 9 and 10 speed automatic transmissions with front and rear wheel drive variants. The collaborative effort means both companies are able to design, engineer, establish, test, corroborate and distribute new transmissions at a faster rate and for a lower cost than they would have on their own. Improved Performance, Better Efficiency The effort has yielded a new 10 speed automatic transmission, one that will find its way into various models over the next few years. That the two competing pony cars will share the same transmission means one less important edge for both manufacturers. Instead, the two companies will have to find other ways to beat each other with such factors as horsepower, steering and handling, and aerodynamics providing key differences. At the same time, buyers of both models will enjoy two important benefits 10 speed transmissions provide better off the line acceleration with a shorter first gear and improved fuel economy with the taller top gears. • 9. FBR-Beige Book Summary With the looming threat of an economic recession, action needs to be taken to try to minimize the potential damage. Subprime loans to finance mortgage backed securities have brought instability to the real estate market. Banks have had to implement tighter lending standards to residential mortgages to try to offset this instability ( FBR Beige Book Summary, 2007). Though several banks have reported tighter credit conditions on the commercial real estate market, credit availability and credit quality remained promising for most borrowers ( FBR Beige Book Summary, 2007). Besides the turbulence in the real estate market, uncertainty in other financial markets have had a minimal effect on recent economic activity ( FBR Beige Book Summary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Subprime mortgage loans issued by banks to finance mortgage backed securities have led to a huge increase in both housing prices and the quantity of houses being built. If housing prices climb too high above their economic value, there will be no incentive for people to pay their mortgage. Borrowers may decide to default on their housing loans, and this will lead to a crisis in the real estate market which could result in a drastic decline of economic performance. The Federal Open Market Committee has a target of decreasing the federal funds rate 50 basis points, from 5.25 percent to 4.75 percent, and also decreasing the discount rate 50 basis points from 5.75 percent to 5.25 percent ( FOMC Statement, 2007). In the previous books Thomas and his friends are put to dangerous test that could get them killed. Thomas has no memory of his life before the tests. This book starts off as Thomas being locked in a room for multiple weeks, another one of the Wicked s tests. After three weeks a man called the Rat man enters the room and tell Thomas he has the Flare disease. Thomas doesn t know he is immune to the flare disease and isn t harmed by it. He is then able to meet up with his friends from the Maze. Thomas can t trust Teresa because she betrayed him back in the Scorch when she worked with wicked. Although Teresa went behind Thomas back he still has feelings for her and he can t get her out of his head. Teresa thinks that the wicked are actually trying to find a safe cure and her help is needed. I can visualize the hideous sights of the Crank Palace. The Crank Palace was a horrible, filthy place (Dashner 172). All people with the Flare disease are sent to the Crank Palace where they wait for their death. • 11. Religious and Ethnic Diversity Religious and Ethnic Diversity ETH 125 February 3, 2013 Religious and Ethnic Diversity Mormonism is a uniquely American religion, have been founded by Joseph Smith Jr., of New York ( The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints , 2013). Mormonism originated in the 1820s, as described by the Church s website, when Joseph Smith Jr. was confused and frustrated by the various Christian religions and was unable to choose one to follow. He turned to the Bible, which told him to ask God when he lacked wisdom. So he prayed to God, and was visited by the Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. All ethnicities, at one time or another, have suffered from prejudice at the hands of another ethnic group. Most African Americans living in the United States today have ties to slavery, meaning that they are the descendants of slaves. Following that back even further, a huge majority of the entire immigration of Black people to the Americas was through the transatlantic slave trade. Throughout our country s history, Black people have faced discrimination and prejudice, which they have fought to overcome. The greatest advancement towards overcoming this discrimination was the abolishment of slavery during The Civil Way. However, being freed did not mean that they were able to live as freely as other Americans. The battle for other rights and an end to segregation lasted another century. Even today, discrimination against Black people is all too prolific. In any case, whether a religious group, a racial group, or an ethnic group, prejudice and discrimination has the same basic causes. One group attempts to give themselves a better opportunity through the oppression of another group, or one group lacks understanding in regards to another group. The only solutions to prejudice is through understanding, critical thinking, and diversity. References Bushman, R. L. (2008). Mormonism: A Very Short Introduction. • 12. My Birth Kahlo Analysis Kahlo said, My painting carried with it the message of pain. Painting completed my life. I lost three children. Painting substituted for all this (Ashton Dore, 1990). She left childbirth, a physical act, in an image through constantly noticing the relationship between her physical experiences and her paintings and being absorbed into actions of creation borne from her pain. It is almost difficult to find works of art that depict this theme as honestly as Kahlo in Western art history. My Birth (1932) (Figure 24) shows a front view of a woman delivering a baby (Souter Gerry, 2011, p. 60). The first generation of feminists tried to reevaluate and praise the value of feminine attributes, especially the female body, differentiated from masculine attributes and feminine experiences with an essentialist attitude. Kahlo was praised as a legendary feminist artist, as the women inside her self portraits are not passive objects for men s visual satisfaction but active observers who look closely into their minds. As mentioned above as well, the female artists dilemma is that they are not only the subject of painting but also the object being observed. Amid art history, established and dominated by men, instead of depicting men as her competitors, Kahlo visualized the introspection of herself in her paintings. She did not limit her role to competing with men, but she unfolded her sad personal history in her unique way. Among them, the image of women depicted in Self Portrait with Curly Hair (1935) (Figure 25) and Self Portrait with Cropped Hair (1940) (Figure 2) are not at all passive. It is in line with the effort made by feminists involved in the early feminist art movement, which was to change the passive and negative female image created by men. Kahlo is a true feminist artist as she delivered truth observed through women s eyes in the period in which only truth seen through men s eyes was accepted. She painted pondering women amid her suffering. She had a special ability to connect femininity and masculinity, and this ability appeared in her painting (Bakewell Lisa, ... • 14. Research Of Consumption Patterns And Wealth Accumulation Research linking consumption patterns and wealth accumulation has focused on the US (Gourinchas and Parker, 2002; Cagetti, 2003). However, given the large difference in capital to income ratios between the US and UK (Piketty and Zucman, 2014), it is possible that UK wealth accumulation dynamics differ from those in the US. Hence, the strength and timing of the precautionary and life cycle savings motives in the UK require further exploration. However, UK data on wealth are ``seriously incomplete (Crossley and O Dea, 2016) and hence econometric analysis is impossible. However, few authors consider the role the wealth distribution has to play in determining the efficacy of fiscal policy. When work has been conducted, it has often yielded counterintuitive results. In particular, Kaplan and Violante (2014) fail to find a strong relationship between wealth and the marginal propensity to consume out of transitory shocks to income (MPC), contrary to empirical evidence from Japelli and Pistaferri (2014) that the MPC is strongly negatively related to levels of cash on hand. Indeed, recent work by Carroll {it et al.} (2016) estimates that the MPC is declining in wealth percentile. Consequently, there is no consensus in the literature regarding the effectiveness of wealth targeted fiscal policy. Furthermore, no studies have been conducted that examine the relative effectiveness of wealth targeting and income targeting. This paper is a step in addressing these two questions. The Main Themes Of Helen By Hilda Doolittle I chose the poem Helen by Hilda Doolittle because it revolves around the central theme of hate, which the main character receives from her society as a whole. The poem relates to Medea s excerpt because both depict how the main characters are despised by their societies. As well, both emphasize the critical role that gender plays in directing this hate. As a result, they both identify the same stereotype of women trending in society: women are dangerous. The theme, content, and tone of the poem and Medea s excerpt make them relatively comparable. Beauty that does not have to be explained nor justified. Palladio is often labelled as the most influential architect in history mainly due to his dominance in architectural development from Renaissance until present day (Scruton, 2013). It s about tight and tidy synthesis whilst using workable and logical grammar. There are ongoing discussions on what the rules may be as he only ever described a few, but nonetheless they imply he had an extraordinary mind. Like many influential artists, Palladio has measured, calculated, mirrored and counted to execute perfection (Tavernor, 2005). Palladio s plans and facades are hypothesised to be ideal, harmonic. This ideal is reached by an assembly of ideal shapes and dimensions, whilst taking into an account that some numbers are more noble in Renaissance than others (Hersey and Freedman, 1992). He used mathematical tools as devices whilst working on his designs. In order to appreciate his work fully, the concept of symmetry and proportion is to be viewed as the key to understanding. Palladio s work was inspired by Roman times, although build with nature in mind. The buildings are regarded as an exercise in pure form rather than models of themselves, they fulfilled and embodied the ideal and harmony of the magnificence own to upper class. After reports of foodborne illnesses were observed from December 21, 2015 to September 5, 2016, the FDA initiated investigations which led to a trace back to the source of the outbreak which were various flours manufactured by General Mills. After the trace back, in May 2016, General Mills led a voluntary recall of its flour due to the presence of pathogens E. coli O121 and E. coli O26. E. coli O121 and O26 are toxin producing Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) that are gram negative and rod shaped as can be seen in figure 1 below. Although most E. coli are harmless and are found naturally in the gastrointestinal tracts of mammals, however, E. coli O121 and O26 are pathogenic, meaning they can cause illness. Figure 1: Microbial Structure of a general E. coli bacteria. According to the bad bug book, the incubation period for these pathogens range from 2 to 8 days after consumption of the contaminated product. After consumption, symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal cramps develop which are often overcome by healthy adults within a week. However, the most susceptible and vulnerable of the population, immunocompromised people, may experience more severe consequences such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). As these robots became more advanced they were equipped with internal sensors which gave them a major advantage over first generation robots. This new technology gave them increased information about the world around them. Robots use sensors to detect changes around them and to respond to their surroundings based on the information they receive from certain sensors. There are many types of sensors that perform a variety of tasks by transforming mechanical, heat, and light energies into electrical signals. The signals produced by sensors communicate to the robot on how it should respond to different situations. This gives the robot a higher sense of intelligence and adaptive skills by providing more information about its environment. These skills allow the robot to change their manipulator location and the position of its end effector so that it can work around obstructions in its work envelope. The robot s surroundings, the precision needed, and what must be sensed all help decide what type of sensor must be used for the robot. Depending on these credentials, robots could be equipped with light, optical, sound, or temperature sensors. The Treaty Of Berlin Conference Essay From the mid 1400s to the mid 1700s, Europe established many trade ports in Africa, but no colonization actually took place, and the few colonies that did exist were along the coastline. In the last half of the 19th century, this all began to change. European countries began to invade Africa s interior. By 1870, about 10% of Africa was under European control, and in just 20 short years, this number grew to almost 90%. Every European country wanted a slice of Africa, and this became known as the scramble for Africa. To avoid war between the European countries, The Berlin Conference was held from 1884 1885. This allowed the Europeans to carve Africa into colonies. As a direct result of this, the political and economic ways of Africa were drastically changed for many years to come. Surely, all of these options are personal preferences; however, one is better than the others: the cochlear implant operation, in a way, is a cure for deafness. Having an opportunity to fully hear in both of your ears can open many gateways into your life; the troubles of finding a school, a job, and doing basic things such as listening to music or driving a car would be made easier. The cochlea is the auditory portion in your inner ear, usually identified as a spiral like a snail shell. The cochlear implant contains two parts: the inner and outer. The inner part, also known as the receiver, is where the surgery comes into play. The receiver is placed under the skin above your ear where the surgeon carves a little part of the skull out for the magnet to lay in. The outer part, also known as the processor, is worn on the ear and connects to the magnet in your skull. The processor analyzes sound, sends it to the receiver inside your skull, which sends electrodes to the auditory nerves (Chorost). Therefore, it would be very hard to lose the cochlear implant whereas a hearing aid is very easy to lose. How will we as a society react to the many things that have been dealt to the people of France? Perhaps our great fight ends in bloodshed, and broken promises. Or perhaps we could take heed of the laws and policies our fellow Europeans across the Sea. I had the pleasure of visiting one of the cities in America that the citizens take so much pride in: Boston, Massachusetts. A port town on the North Eastern coast that was a large part of the American Revolution. It was also home to the Notorious Boston Massacre. There are a number of things that I enjoyed about my trip, but pointing out the differences between Boston and France had to be the most delectable part of my trip. The way in which they practice religion is something to behold. Their new Constitution is also no laughing matter, and lastly the many things Americans find fun is mesmerizing, and also repulsive. America is a tremendous place and I cannot wait to guide you through my journey and inferences. The first voyage I made when I got off the boat was directly towards a church. I decided to visit the Old North Church and as I approached I noticed that the brick work seemed to glisten in the sun, and the white interior reminded me of how pure the world can really be. The church practiced Protestantism, and started soon after the War.[1] I admired the way in which the citizens praised God, but I did happen to notice that their practices were rather different from my own. After talking to some of the Americans most had either commented on my accent or expressed their condolences to the revolution. I also asked them about how they worship and how they choose to worship. Many of these American citizens were free to choose what they wanted to worship. Most did say that they would be judged for their religious decisions, but were never forced into doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Helium Research Paper Helium is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless gas. It has some very unique properties. Helium has the lowest boiling point of all the elements at 268.9C, or 452.0F. Its freezing point is 272.2C, or 458.0F. Helium is the only gas that can not be turned to a solid by lowering its temperature. To make helium solid you have to increase its temperature. When helium is at a temperature of 271C, it is a liquid but it has superfluidity properties. This means that liquid helium flows it doesn t exert friction and it can leak through containers. Helium is also an inert gas, it doesn t react chemically with any element or form bonds. Helium floats because it is lighter than the air around us. A liter of helium weighs way less than a gram. It only weighs 0.18 grams. A liter of the air around weighs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may be funny, but research shows it is not all that safe. When you breath in helium it displaces the air in your lungs and there is no way to get oxygen. This is dangerous because it could cause your oxygen levels to drop very low. When your oxygen levels drop you could become very dizzy and disoriented. It could also cause an abnormal heartbeat, unconsciousness, or even death. This is all if you just breathe it normally. If you breathe helium deeply, or directly from a container that is pressurized, it could cause a blockage of a blood vessel which could lead to having a stroke, seizures, or death. It could also burst the air sacs in your lungs. In that case you die because you would drown in your own blood. Helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, but there is a shortage on earth. In one of the main helium reservoirs in the U.S. there was only 10 12 billion cubic feet of helium left in it, as of 2012. Even though this seems like a lot, we use around 2 billion cubic feet of helium per year. So technically that reservoir would be getting very very close to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Differences Between The Governmental Accounting Standard... Comparing and Contrasting The Difference Between GASB and FASB By: Chris Lawson Keiser University For as long as human interactions have allowed the exchange of value between goods or services, accountancy has been the language of which business transactions are speaking (Salem, 2013). Accounting keeps track of and explains how money is used by non profit organizations, for profit businesses, governments and other individuals. Sounds simple enough right? Well, in all reality it is not that simple. Nowadays, there are many different forms of accounting let alone different set of standards that certain, and sometimes all, organizations must follow. Today there are two main standard setters in the United States that is responsible for providing up to date standards for its corresponding organizations. Although these two standards are very similar in nature, they are also very different when it comes to their own individual reporting requirements. Throughout the rest of this paper I will not only compare and contrast the differences between the Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) and the Financial Accounting Standard Board (FASB), but also how they differ when it comes to their reporting requirements. To get a better understanding of who these standard setters are, let s go over a brief history and background of these two accounting standard boards. The first standard board to be discussed is FASB. FASB was created in 1973, after the Accounting Principle Board ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Religious Factors Have A Great Deal Of Influence On... Religious factors have had a great deal of influence on politics in Latin American countries. In most countries religion has helped to set the value structure of their society by helping to frame what the citizens should expect out of their lives and what they should expect from the government. Today here are a variety of religions practiced in Latin America including Catholicism, Protestantism, Voodoo, Santería, Judaism, as well as indigenous religions. In order to combat religion s influence on Latin American politics the anti clericalism movement began in colonial times. Anti clericalism is defined as the opposition to the clergy for its real or alleged influence in both political and social affairs (Britannica, 2009). It should be noted that although anti clericalism is often associated with anti Catholicism, anti Christianity, anti deism, irreligiosity, and atheism they are not the same. Butler (2009) noted that we could hold the Catholic responsible for encouraging the association between anti clericalism and anti Catholicism to their followers. Secularism is also often associated with anti clericalism, which rejects all forms of religion in civil affairs. Fallaw (2009) notes that it is hard to tell where anti clericalism and secularism began and end. According to Bantjes, 2009 anti clericalism s target was the privileged status of a clerical caste who are viewed as hypocritical and immoral. Historically religion and politics have been intertwined in government in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
