Inquiry learning involves asking questions in the classroom, either posed by the teacher or students. There are two types of inquiry - open-entry, where students end up developing a planned scientific concept, and open-ended, where students may reach different conclusions for social or technological questions. While inquiry is consistent with constructivist learning theories, it is not the same as constructivism. The teacher still plays an active role in planning inquiry lessons, facilitating student activities, and helping students communicate concepts using proper scientific language and conventions. Inquiry lessons are most effective when they include hands-on experiments that test concepts in the real world.
