development of a proper work culture, values, attitudes etc to be kept in
work place.
Obectives:The learner,
1. develops properattitude towards work.
2. constructvarious discourses like description, narrative script, write-up
features etc.
3. reads and enjoys pieces of literature like short stories and poems.
About the poem: The poem ‘Follower’ is about a father and a son. Father is
an expert farmer. The son longed to become an expert farmer in the future.
For this the sonworked hard and in courseof time the sonbecame a farmer.
In his childhood the followed his father and the son become an expert farmer
the father followed his son and never leave him.
Vocabulary: New words suchas furrow, sock, sod, head rig are introduced.
Previous knowledge:The learner might have known the importance of
dignity of labor.
Aids used: Pictures, charts, dictionary etc.
Warm up Activity: Teacher discuses the topic in the class. Students
presents their idea about the farmer, fields, recollect their experiences.
Introduction and BlackboardWriting: Teacher introduces the lesson in
the class and get them interested in the topic. Teacher writes the title on the
blackboard
‘Follower’-Seamus Heaney
Practice:In this teacher gives ten minutes and gave them an activity-a
conversation between the father and the son. The teacher shows the picture
of a farmer in the field.
Reading by the teacher: Teacher reads the poem with correct
pronunciation, stress and rhythm. Pupils listen. Teacher reads twice.
Loud reading by the pupil: Pupils read the poem by standing.
Presentationof new words:
Shouldered - undertook a responsibility.
Furrow - narrow trench made by plough in the soil.
Head rig - the rein which controls the horses.
Mapping - watch carefully
Conveyance ofidea by the students: Teacher asks the pupils to convey the
idea behind each line.
Production: Teacher asks them to create some questions from the poem
Evaluation Procedure
Individual Work:What makes the father an expert? What is he an expert
at?
Group Work: Do you think that the transformation is the law of nature?
Review: Teacher gives the gist of the poem.
Home Work: Collect paper cutting about the problems of farmers.
