”Places in my Neighbourhood”
Lesson Plan 7
Time: 45 minutes
Topic: ”Places in my Neighbourhood”
Objectives:
- Revise prior knowledge about places in the neighbourhood and what they can
do there.
- Talk about their neighbourhoods.
- Listen and understand the story with the help of the teacher.
- Answer questions orally.
- Enjoy stories in English.
- Retell the stories to their families with the help of the “magic bag”.
Materials needed for the lesson
- Short story “Places in my Neighbourhood”, Shelly Lyons (2013).
- Visual support and materials designed by the teacher-students.
Routine
Timing: 5 minutes.
Type of interaction: all the class, teacher-students.
Makro skills: listening and speaking.
We will follow the routine ‘’How do you feel today?’’ and continue with a breathing
exercise before starting the lesson to help students prepare to get to work after their
recess.
Warm-up
Timing: 5 minutes.
Type of interaction: teacher-students.

0. Revise homework altogether (activities 1 and 2, page 40).
First activity
Timing: 10 minutes.
Type of interaction: all the class.
Makro skills: reading, writing and speaking.
Places in my Neighborhood.pdf
1. a. Listen to this short story and pay attention to the pictures.
Follow up questions:
- What is the short story about?
- What is a neighbourhood?
b. Listen to the story again and complete the missing words.

- Can you find these places in your neighbourhood?
Second Activity
Timing: 5 minutes.
Type of interaction: all the class.
Makro skills: reading, writing and speaking.
1. Read these sentences and answer them with “yes, there is”; “no, there isn’t”, “yes,
there are”, “no, there aren’t”.
a. Is there a cinema in this neighbourhood?
b. Are there any apartments in the neighbourhood?
c. Is there a clinic in this neighbourhood?
d. Are there any stores in the neighbourhood?
e. Is there a bookshop there?
f. Is there a hairdresser’s there?
Third activity
Timing: 10 minutes.
Type of interaction: individually, teacher-students, students-students.
Makro skills: reading and speaking.
3. Think about the block where you live in your neighbourhood.
- What places can you find in your block?
- Where is your house?
- How can you describe it? Use the words we learned!
Make a list in your notebooks and draw them on a piece of paper. Use colours and
write the names of the places to show your classmates your design.
(We will show them an example of our own).

4. Share your productions with the class.
- What places are there in your neighbourhood?

Session October, 29th Friday ”Places in my Neighbourhood” Lesson Plan 7 Time: 45 minutes Topic: ”Places in my Neighbourhood” Objectives: - Revise prior knowledge about places in the neighbourhood and what they can do there. - Talk about their neighbourhoods. - Listen and understand the story with the help of the teacher. - Answer questions orally. - Enjoy stories in English. - Retell the stories to their families with the help of the “magic bag”. Materials needed for the lesson - Short story “Places in my Neighbourhood”, Shelly Lyons (2013). - Visual support and materials designed by the teacher-students. Routine Timing: 5 minutes.
