Age Group
I will aim the video game
poster towards people
between the ages of 18-
25 as that is the biggest
demographics of video
game players, therefore
by aiming it at this
demographic my product
would be more likely to
sell better than if I aimed
it at 10-16 year olds.
Colour Scheme
I have decided to make my poster look quite
modern, for the modern video game industry
instead of doing a retro poster. In a lot of modern
posters the colour scheme is quite bleak, grey, red
and black are mostly used for Action, Adventure,
FPS, RPG and MMO games. Poster designers do
this to show that the character you you play in the
game, the character you make, is the person to
save the world. This pulls players and draws them
to the game because who doesn’t love saving the
world?
Poster Ideas
From looking at a variation of
video game posters I have
noticed the main character is
always front and center, usually
with one side of the character
covered in a bright colour and
another in a dark colour. I think
this is like a foreshadow for
what’s to come, for example in
most Uncharted 4 posters the
main character Nathan is getting
old, and has retired from his
adventuring days, yet his dead
brother comes back alive and
needs Nathan’s help. This leads
to Nathan fighting with himself
and his wife Elena as last time
went looking for a lost artifact
they both almost died. Therefore
the colour split is showing the
fight going on in Nathans head.
Message
The message in video game posters I think is
that even though the character of the game is
the hero, they are still human, and I think it’s
important to know that because it makes the
players feel more connected with the
characters, it makes them feel more human
than just a bit of code.
Mind Map 2 Graphic Novel Ideas
Age Group
The main demographic for
graphic novel readers is
people aimed between the
ages of 18-45. This means
that it is a big mixture of
men and women that read
graphing novels. Therefore
when designing my graphic
novel I need to think about
how I can make it appealing
to both men and women, so
the product will sell.
Colour Scheme
When making a graphic novel I will
need to consider the colour
scheme on what characters are on
the page and what is happening. I
will need to do this because in
graphic novels whenever the bad
guy is on the page the colours turn
very dark and bleak. Whereas if
the hero is on page the colours
become quite bright. The
designers do this to show that the
bright colours means hope and
righteousness, whereas with the
villains it’s showing death,
destruction and anarchy
Genres
• Action

• Horror
• Science fiction
• Non fiction
• Fantasy
• Comedy
• Superhero
Poster Ideas
When considering graphic novels the
colour scheme depends on the
character and situation. Therefore
when looking at posters for graphic
novels the same applies. If the poster
has the main hero on the poster it is
full of bright colours and feels inviting.
But if the villain is on the poster the
colours are black and grey, not feeling
inviting at all. Therefore the posters
are polar opposites.
Mind Map 3 Film/TV poster Ideas
Age Group
When making a TV show
or film you have to
consider what genre of
show or film you are
going to make so you
know what audience to
aim it at. For example if
you are making a horror
film you will aim it at
people between 18-30.
Colour Scheme
When considering what colour
schemes to use it all depends on
what the genre of the film or
show is and what is the plot and
how that can affect the colour
scheme. For example with an
action film, the posters often use
teal and orange. They do this to
show that teal represents good
as it is a light blue, and orange to
represent bad. In mystery or
thriller films grey is often used as
it represents mystery and the
unknown.
Genre
• Action
• Comedy
• Crime
• Documentary
• Romance
• Horror
• Sci-fi
• Drama
And many more.
Poster Ideas
When looking at posters for film
and TV shows usually the poster
has a picture of the hero of the
show or film and villain. In most
cases it also has a difference in
colour, split down the middle with
different colours. One side
showing the heroes and the other
side the villains. Posters are made
like this so when you see a poster
for a film or show you can easily
identify the characters.
Mood Board
Mood Board Analysis
• I have carefully picked out all the posters and close ups of characters as I find them inspiring
for my poster ideas. I find them inspiring because the silhouettes of the characters and the
colours surrounding them tell the story of what’s happening. For example on the Red Dead
Redemption poster the outside of the silhouette is red, showing the blood that surrounds
John Marston, the main character who is a criminal now trying to be a good man. This is
shown by the border of white slowly creeping in on the blood, like it’s getting rid of it,
wiping it clean, this is also resembled by his gun now turning white and another silhouette
inside of him turning white. This is all showing his transformation from being a criminal and
now turning into a good person. Yet there is still dark in him, he is changing, hence the title
Red Dead Redemption. The game is about his redemption, but you don’t even need to know
the title to see what the plot of the game is.
• You can also see this in the Walking Dead poster, as the two main characters are seen as
white silhouettes inside the zombie’s head, which is bleak and grey. I think these colours are
used on the zombie to show the mystery that surrounds it, no one knows what exactly they
are, what their motives are or where they came from. The Main characters Lee and
Clementine are represented in a white silhouette, showing that they are the good guys, Lee
finds Clementine in her home when the apocalypse starts, he then keeps her alive
throughout the game. In all the designs of these posters you can easily tell what the plot of
the game is, that’s why they inspire me.
Informal Proposal
• I am going to make multiple video game
posters.
• I will need a computer, mouse, keyboard, Photoshop and access to
them internet so I can look at existing posters.
• I am going to aim my posters at anyone between the ages of 16-25
as that is the biggest demographic for gamers. I need to make the
posters appealing to both genders in the age group.
• I will create a video game idea for my video game poster so it will
be all my own idea.
Choices
• I considered three ideas for my
project, I considered making a video
game poster, a front cover for a
graphic novel and a film poster. I
eventually decided on making a video
game poster instead of my other two
ideas.
• I decided on making a video game
poster instead of my other two ideas
because I feel like I can be more
creative with making a video game
poster, I also have experience in
making them as I have done before in
my spare time.
