The AP World History exam will take place on May 12th at Friendswood Community Church. It will consist of a multiple choice section and three essay sections: a document-based question (DBQ), comparative essay, and continuity and change over time (CCOT) essay. Students are advised to study hard, get enough sleep before the exam, and manage their time well during the exam to earn points on all sections.

If you feel you must carry it, turn your cell phone OFF and place in the secure bin (that proctors will provide) until all tests are complete and turned in. Proctors will have to cancel your test score if you turn on your cell phone or use it at any time during a break or while others are testing.

9. Information for May 12thBe back at school at 1:00 p.mLUNCH: a.m. test – you will only be given an hour to eat lunch and return to campus after your test. If you return to campus after the time allotted for your lunch it will be unexcused and count against your exemptions.

10. Wednesday night . . .Sleep as much as you can the night before the test. Eat a normal breakfast (maybe eat something that will get your brain and body in gear.)

11. The Multiple Choice Section70 Question / 55 minute multiple choice section. (50 % of your “grade”)You do not get counted off for incorrect answers, so try to make your best guess if you are not sure.Don’t fall apart at the end of the test. Stay sharp, keep working. The questions do not get harder!

12. The Multiple Choice SectionEliminate answer choices to improve your odds, choose those that you feel might be correct.Remember, this test is not designed for you to know all the answers to all the questions. If you score in the 60% or above you are not doing badly.

13. Multiple Choice SectionChronological ½ and ½#1 is always SUPPOSED to be easy!The committee knows that weaker students will skip charts, maps, and graphs, BUT they are actually not hard! The answer is THERE!

14. Multiple Choice SectionThe questions do NOT get harder in the 2nd half. DON’T GIVE UP!ALWAYS Han/Rome comparison, expansion of Islam, basic beliefs and spread of religions.

15. The Essays“Free Response Section”Mandatory 10 minute reading period.There is a 10 minute reading period for you to read the “free response” essay prompts and the DBQ documents. Spend that time in reading and prewriting for your DBQ.

The time remaining in the test may NOT be announced, but you must manage your time to have enough time to write all three essays.If you have time remaining, go back and read your thesis statements, and check the body paragraphs. Add similarities or differents, continuities or changes,

19. The CHALLENGE.You will not know all the material. It is likely you will feel uncomfortable with one or more of the free-response topics.The time may go very fast / for some you may have quite a bit of time left when you “finish writing”.BUT . . .
