This document provides information and advice for the upcoming AP World History exam on May 13th. 2. This weekend- Study as much as you can! Review how to score points on the essays and review the time periods. Work in your AP EXAM REVIEWS. PRINT and study the cram packets or other review material. Use the links on my website for review. You have to work outside of class! (Earn 2000 bucks?)

3. The EXAM! Time- 3 hours and 5 minutes Round 1- 55 minute (70 question) Objective section (multiple choice) Round 2 Part A – DBQ Round 3 Part B – Comparative Round 4 Part C – CCOT

5. Information for May 13 th- TEST DAY May 13 th Friendswood Community Church--on 528, on the left, past Windsong Intermediate, Sunmeadows and before you get to Moore road and the softball fields. Arrive at 7:45 a.m. You must have a photo i.d.! Do you need transportation to the testing site? Do you need transportation from the testing site?

6. Information for May 13 th- TEST DAY Things to bring . . . YOUR drivers’ license or photo i.d. Pen s / Pencils A snack / water if you think you will want it Watch (cannot use cell phone for time) An attitude to do well An attitude to work for 3 hours and earn about $2000.00.

7. Information for May 13 th- TEST DAY Wear comfortable clothes. Bring a sweatshirt if you are someone who gets cold easily. Go to the restroom before the test begins. Don’t use test time.

8. Information for May 13 th- TEST DAY Do NOT bring your cell phones to the testing site. If you feel you must carry it, turn your cell phone OFF and place in the secure bin (that proctors will provide) until all tests are complete and turned in. Proctors will have to cancel your test score if you turn on your cell phone or use it at any time during a break or while others are testing.

9. Information for May 13th Be back at school at 1:00 p.m LUNCH: a.m. test – you will only be given an hour to eat lunch and return to campus after your test. If you return to campus after the time allotted for your lunch it will be unexcused and count against your exemptions.

10. Tuesday night . . . Sleep as much as you can the night before the test. Eat a normal breakfast (maybe eat something that will get your brain and body in gear.)

11. The Multiple Choice Section 70 Question / 50 minute multiple choice section. (50 % of your “grade”) Like the SAT in scoring. 1/4 answered incorrectly subtracted from those correct Don’t fall apart at the end of the test. Stay sharp, keep working.

12. The Multiple Choice Section Eliminate answer choices to improve your odds, choose those that you feel might be correct, but do not just guess on questions you do not know at all. Remember, this test is not designed for you to know all the answers to all the questions. If you score in the 60% or above you are not doing badly.

13. The Essays “ Free Response Section” Mandatory 10 minute reading period. There is a 10 minute reading period for you to read the “free response” essay prompts and the DBQ documents. Spend that time in reading and prewriting for your DBQ.

14. The Essays “ Free Response Section” You will then have 120 minutes to write responses to the 3 essays. Part A - DBQ Essay Writing Part B - Comparative Part C - Continuity & Change

15. The Essays Part B and C suggestion. . . (5 min. prewriting & 35 min. writing)

16. 120 minutes with Essays Time management is critical. The time remaining in the test may NOT be announced, but you must manage your time to have enough time to write all three essays. If you have time remaining, go back and read your thesis statements, and check the body paragraphs. Add similarities or differents, continuities or changes,

17. The CHALLENGE. You will not know all the material. It is likely you will feel uncomfortable with one or more of the free-response topics. The time may go very fast / for some you may have quite a bit of time left when you “finish writing”. BUT . . .

18. GO FOR THE POINTS!

19. Go for the points on the DBQ ! For the DBQ, make sure that you have: Answered THE prompt! Grouped docs in two or three ways Showed you understood each document AND supported your thesis with each document. Analyzed point of view of the speakers of three (or more) documents Given and explained the need for TWO additional sources/documents.

20. Go for the points on the Comparative Essay! Make sure you have: Answered THE prompt written about all the elements of the prompt given both similarities AND differences Directly compared / contrasted Given evidence (5 pieces) “For example” Analyze the causes or results of the similarities or differences.

21. Go for the points on the Continuity and Change Essay! Make sure you have: Answered THE prompt written about all the elements of the prompt given both continuities and changes Used historical context to explain what changed or what stayed the same. Given evidence (5 pieces). “For example” Analyzed the caused or results or dynamics of the continuity or change.
