Equipment Safety Checks
   Equipment Inventory
    A checklist of equipment safety includes a list of all
    machinery in the workplace and is recorded.

   Training
    Training will be provided on each piece of
    equipment that you need to use to successfully
    complete your task

   Instructions
    All equipment in the studio comes with a manual.
    These will be in a folder marked “manuals”.
    Please make sure you have read the manuals
    pertaining to your job role and sign off.

Equipment Safety Checks
   Environment
    We have ensured that all equipment is being used in a safe
    location. Some equipment can only be used in specific
    conditions.

   Signs
    Signs and labels are near each piece of equipment that you
    use. Some equipment can only be used by authorised
    personnel. These people will be on a list near the
    equipment. Storage containers with contents and safety
    instructions will b e clearly labelled.

   Inventory
    We schedule routine inventory and maintenance on a regular
    basis. Each piece of machinery must be checked to ensure it is
    in working condition. Safety standards must be checked to
    ensure a safe workplace. Warning labels and instructions will be
    updated to ensure that they are easily visible and understood.

10 Important Potential Hazards
at Syrom Graphic Design
1.  Tripping hazards (cabling, boxes etc.)
2. R.S.I.
3. Blocked fire exits
4. First Aid Kit un-maintained
5. Incorrect workstation setup
6. Infrequent rests
7. Inadequate lighting
8. Non functioning computer equipment
9. Inadequate ventilation
10. Ambient temperature fluctuations
How to control these hazards?
1. Be observant
2. Be aware of your surroundings
3. Offer advice to others who may not
   know the implication of their action
4. Follow procedure to minimise risk
5. Report irregularities promptly
Reporting Risks & Incidents
1. Identify the hazard
2. Report the hazard to manager or
   designated officer (OHS)
3. Follow instructions as given by designated
   person to minimise hazard
4. Fill out hazard form and get sign off
     1.   Include any sketches, photos drawings that may help
     2.   Include and equipment, tools and people involved
     3.   List any suggestions by reducing or eliminating the
          problem (maintenance etc.)
Studios Meeting & Consultative
  Process for OH & S Issues
The studio takes OH&S very seriously. We believe in
  a safe workplace therefore we continually revise
  current policies and procedures.

Syrom Graphic design:
1.  Meets once a week (Monday morning) to discuss issues
    relating to workplace. Any issues should be raised at the
    meeting that need to be addressed
2.  An OH&S audit is carried out bi-annually to ascertain the
    safety of the workplace.
3.  Audits are then forwarded to upper management to address
    any issues (4 weeks to comply)
Emergency (Injuries)
Fire Evacuation Plan
1.   Upon seeing a fire – break
     the fire alarm glass to set
     off fire alarm
2.   Evacuate the building via
     nearest fire exit. Look for
     the exit sign
3.   Assemble at evacuation
     point “A”. (Map near fire exit)
Emergency (Power Outage)
   Switch off your heating and cooling appliances and electrical
    equipment if safe to do so.
   Store torches in easy to access places.
   Check your to see if other businesses have also lost power.
   Call your local electricity distributor’s Faults and Emergencies
    number to report
   Where power supply is likely to be interrupted for a prolonged
    period, an evacuation of the building may be required.
    Instructions for a non-emergency evacuation will usually be
    relayed in person.
   For a non-emergency evacuation, you should leave the
    building as soon as possible, taking personal possessions,
    urgent work, etc with you. Shut down any non
    essential/surge sensitive equipment, close windows and lock
    doors as you leave.
Emergency (Assault)
Individuals who believe they are victims of
  assault are encouraged / invited to:
1. Report the assault to management
2. Discuss the situation with a counsellor /
   manager
3. File a formal complaint
Please be aware that the relevant authorities
   may be brought in to investigate
Responsibilities

Employer
 Will make sure that you have a safe workplace
 Provide adequate breaks
 Follow up any complaints presented to them
  written or verbal
 Provide information in regards to emergency
  procedures in an easy to find location
 Provide training to make sure that you can do your
  job successfully
 Provide adequate lighting and ventilation
Responsibilities
    (Employer and Employee)
Employee
   Obey all reasonable instructions given to you
   Follow safe procedures for your role
   Use equipment in a safe manner
   Not causing a disturbance so as to involve you or
    follow workers in an unsafe situation
   Report hazards and accidents
   Not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol
   Offer suggestions on how to improve the safety of
    the workplace

Current Studio safety procedures  Current OH&S policies located in lunch room labelled “OHS Procedures and Policy”  Current Emergency contact numbers located on poster in the lunch room titled “Emergency Contact Numbers”  Current Evacuation Procedure located on poster titled “Evacuation Procedure” near the fire exits
  • 6. Equipment Safety Checks  Equipment Inventory A checklist of equipment safety includes a list of all machinery in the workplace and is recorded.  Training Training will be provided on each piece of equipment that you need to use to successfully complete your task  Instructions All equipment in the studio comes with a manual. These will be in a folder marked “manuals”. Please make sure you have read the manuals pertaining to your job role and sign off. 
  • 7. Equipment Safety Checks  Environment We have ensured that all equipment is being used in a safe location. Some equipment can only be used in specific conditions.  Signs Signs and labels are near each piece of equipment that you use. Some equipment can only be used by authorised personnel. These people will be on a list near the equipment. Storage containers with contents and safety instructions will b e clearly labelled.  Inventory We schedule routine inventory and maintenance on a regular basis. Each piece of machinery must be checked to ensure it is in working condition. Safety standards must be checked to ensure a safe workplace. Warning labels and instructions will be updated to ensure that they are easily visible and understood.

  • 9. 10 Important Potential Hazards at Syrom Graphic Design 1. Tripping hazards (cabling, boxes etc.) 2. R.S.I. 3. Blocked fire exits 4. First Aid Kit un-maintained 5. Incorrect workstation setup 6. Infrequent rests 7. Inadequate lighting 8. Non functioning computer equipment 9. Inadequate ventilation 10. Ambient temperature fluctuations
  • 10. How to control these hazards? 1. Be observant 2. Be aware of your surroundings 3. Offer advice to others who may not know the implication of their action 4. Follow procedure to minimise risk 5. Report irregularities promptly
  • 11. Reporting Risks & Incidents 1. Identify the hazard 2. Report the hazard to manager or designated officer (OHS) 3. Follow instructions as given by designated person to minimise hazard 4. Fill out hazard form and get sign off 1. Include any sketches, photos drawings that may help 2. Include and equipment, tools and people involved 3. List any suggestions by reducing or eliminating the problem (maintenance etc.)
  • 12. Studios Meeting & Consultative Process for OH & S Issues The studio takes OH&S very seriously. We believe in a safe workplace therefore we continually revise current policies and procedures. Syrom Graphic design: 1. Meets once a week (Monday morning) to discuss issues relating to workplace. Any issues should be raised at the meeting that need to be addressed 2. An OH&S audit is carried out bi-annually to ascertain the safety of the workplace. 3. Audits are then forwarded to upper management to address any issues (4 weeks to comply)
  • 14. Fire Evacuation Plan 1. Upon seeing a fire – break the fire alarm glass to set off fire alarm 2. Evacuate the building via nearest fire exit. Look for the exit sign 3. Assemble at evacuation point “A”. (Map near fire exit)
  • 15. Emergency (Power Outage)  Switch off your heating and cooling appliances and electrical equipment if safe to do so.  Store torches in easy to access places.  Check your to see if other businesses have also lost power.  Call your local electricity distributor’s Faults and Emergencies number to report  Where power supply is likely to be interrupted for a prolonged period, an evacuation of the building may be required. Instructions for a non-emergency evacuation will usually be relayed in person.  For a non-emergency evacuation, you should leave the building as soon as possible, taking personal possessions, urgent work, etc with you. Shut down any non essential/surge sensitive equipment, close windows and lock doors as you leave.
  • 16. Emergency (Assault) Individuals who believe they are victims of assault are encouraged / invited to: 1. Report the assault to management 2. Discuss the situation with a counsellor / manager 3. File a formal complaint Please be aware that the relevant authorities may be brought in to investigate
  • 17. Responsibilities (Employer and Employee) Employer  Will make sure that you have a safe workplace  Provide adequate breaks  Follow up any complaints presented to them written or verbal  Provide information in regards to emergency procedures in an easy to find location  Provide training to make sure that you can do your job successfully  Provide adequate lighting and ventilation
  • 18. Responsibilities (Employer and Employee) Employee  Obey all reasonable instructions given to you  Follow safe procedures for your role  Use equipment in a safe manner  Not causing a disturbance so as to involve you or follow workers in an unsafe situation  Report hazards and accidents  Not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol  Offer suggestions on how to improve the safety of the workplace
