The student created a magazine that both develops and challenges conventions from style model magazines. The front cover develops the style model by recreating its effective layout, while the contents page develops key features but challenges the layout. The double page spread significantly challenges the style model by changing the image placement and style. Overall, the magazine develops some conventions through consistent content, but also challenges conventions by making elements like the double page spread and mise-en-scene unique from the style models.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products
1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
By Jake Navarro
2. Front Cover
This is the style model I used for my magazine
front cover. I have chose this piece as it it was
my favorite ‘Metal Hammer’ magazine front
cover. I really like the layout and house style so
tried to recreate it in my own work. I adapted the
content to develop my own magazine front cover.
I think this magazine is affective because it has
impact on the reader and draws you in due to the
eye catchy features and vibrancy.
This is my final magazine front cover I have tried to keep the layout
similar to my style model as I think it is effective and stands out. I have
adapted my style and made it my own as I have taken the content of my
style model and adapted it to my own piece. I decided to change the
background and main image from the cartoon style and replace the
style with realistic images. I think it I effective because the layout is neat
and effective. I also think this magazine stands out due to the vibrancy
and features in this aspect it is similar to my style model. My magazine
uses key content of a good metal magazine through the use of a stand
out pull quote, large block font which stands out, a large image that
shows attitude and all the important articles that will attract the
audience. The price of my magazine challenges my style model as it is
much cheaper because it is aimed at a different audience.
3. Content
This is the style model for my contents page I
chose this piece as I liked the layout similarly to
my magazine style model as this contents page
includes a nice house style and lots of images
which I also like. I also think its simple but
effective and easy to navigate. I think this
contents page includes all the key features that a
good contents page should include so I decided
to use this as a basis for my contents page.
This is my contents page it follows the conventions of my style model. I
tried to recreate the same type of layout but developed it into my own style
I think its effective as it is easy to navigate and slightly clearer than my
style model due to my chosen house style. My contents page includes my
magazines logo which my style model doesn’t. My contents page copied
the content of my style model as it is has all the key features of a contents
page. My contents page challenged my style model as the ;layout is
different and more clear also I have left out the editor speaks part of my
style model as I think this makes the layout cluttered.
4. Double page spread
This is my double page spread style model. I think its
effective as it stands out and attracts the audience. I really
like the background and house style of this double page as
it is different from anything I have seen. I think the
background and border is effective but dominates both
pages. I think this style model is effective but I have
decided to challenge this double page spread.
This is my double page spread it is et out similarly to my
style model but I have adapted the layout because I
wanted it to be different. My main image is placed on the
opposite side of my style model as my actor is angled
towards the left hand side so placing it on the opposite
side looked more effective. Overall I think my magazine
fulfills its intended purpose. My double page spread
challenges my style model as I think it would be hard to
recreate the style model. My double page spread
developed the content of my style model. I think this is
effective because my DPS is different to anything on the
market at the moment.
5. Content
The content of my magazine is consistent to the style models as my research
has taught me that the content of the magazine is the most important aspect.
My front page closely follows the content as my contents page and DPS
challenge the content as they are vastly different from there style models
compared.
6. Mise en scene
The Mise en scene of my magazine is consistent through out as it follows the
codes and conventions of a metal magazine through the use of costumes,
props, backgrounds, body language and character positioning. The mise en
scene of my magazine challenges my style models as nothing is the same or
similar.
7. Overall
My magazine develops some conventions of my style models but also
challenges my style models. My front cover develops my style model where
as my DPS challenges my style model and my contents develops and
challenges my style model.
