IN TEAM BUILDING,
WHAT ARE THE 4
C'S?
The only resources you need to begin establishing a
team identity is time, energy, andintention.
Remember, it all starts with a conversation. If you
want to establish a teamidentity, you have to give
your team an opportunity to openly discuss the 4
C’s of a Team Identity: clarity, commitment,
contribution, and concerns.
a. Clearly state the team's goals and mission. Have your
team work together to develop a mission and vision
statement if you don't already have one.
b. Describe the objectives, deadlines, etc. that the team
needs to work effectively for the specific projects.
c. Make sure everyone on the team is aware of their level of
authority regarding specific projects.

4 C's Of Team Building
2. Commitment -
a. Determine each team member's level of commitment.
b. Promote commitment by exemplifying it yourself. Explain
to your team why you and the team as a whole find it (or the
project) to be important.
c. Ask the following questions of each team member:
i. Why are you committed to this team (or project)?
ii. As a team member, what do you hope to gain?
3. Contribution -
a. Identify the team's advantages and disadvantages.
b. Ask the following questions of each member of your team:
i. What particular abilities, skills, and/or knowledge do you
bring to this group (or undertaking)?
What position do you perceive yourself to hold on this team
(or project)?
c. Allow your team to suggest assignments based on their
potential contributions rather than assigning tasks right
away.
4. Concerns -
a. Ensure that you give each member of your team the
chance to express any worries, suggestions, or queries.
b. Now is the time to inquire about the following:
i. Are you worried about joining the team, working on the
current project, or the team as a whole?
What could our group as a whole do better?
