Continuing Education
• New knowledge is being created at a very fast rate. Employees need
continual updating of knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Continuing education involves a programme of lifelong educational
activities to maintain and develop competence in terms of knowledge,
skills, abilities and potential for growth.
Types of Continual Education Activities
• Structured:
a. Attending: Attendance in conferences, seminars, conventions, symposiums and
workshops.
b. Presenting: Presentation of papers and delivery of lectures at seminars or
conferences. Participation in panel discussions.
c. Serving: Serving as member of study group, working group, committees, and
work teams.
d. Publishing: Publishing articles for journals and newspapers, publishing books.
• Unstructured:
a. e-Learning: Internet and web-based learning.
b. Self-learning: Learning from programmed courses.
c. Pursuing: Pursuing higher educational degree through open
university.
d. Others: Other activities that increase the competency of employees.

• Management development is a systematic process of improving managerial
performance.
• It prepares managers to handle present and future responsibilities.
• It develops managerial potential.
• Management development is given to managerial employees who supervise the
activities of others.
