  1. Modern society depends on the use of ICT. Such has meant an enhancement of the emphaisis placed on ICT in a learning environment. It not only supports teaching, it supports learning within other curriculum subjects. Developing ICT skills prepares children in their everyday and working lives. ICT tools enable pupils to access, share, analyse and present information gained from a variety of sources and in many different ways
  2. ICT enables tasks to be completed independently and as a group and the consideration of which ICT tool to use is also part of the learning process. It not only enhances but develops skills necessary to be an integrated member of society. As teachers ability to deal with ICT integration within lessons is different, development in areas must be identified. The main use of ICT in the school is to exploit ICT resources to raise pupils achievement. ICT applications are used throughout the national curriculum from Mathematics to Science to enhance learning and offer interactivity in learning. Without use of ICT, learning would be out of touch with reality. Using ICT in the curriculum has meant there is more integration between home and school where skills learnt in school are being utilised at home and vice versa
  3. At key stage 3, pupils learn to enhance skills such as when to use use ICT, what tools to use and the features of these tools. These skills, knowledge and understanding are then used to solve specific problems in different scenarios. At key stage 4, a range of information sources and ICT tools should be used ti analyse, interpret, evaluate and present information for a range of purposes. The ability to use ICt enables children to enquire and decide which is the best hence developing key skills such as decision making. The use of ICT across the curriculum is know a standard. It not only motivates children but ultimately raises their achievement. It gives children an opportunity to learn in greater variety of ways, better matched to appropriate learning styles. In Mathematics, there is use of software packages to enable pupils to pace their own learning. The use of presentational skills allows the enrichment of knowledge a number of different mathematical areas such as using graphs. In English, children complete writing taks on computer. There are also specialist language software to enable for children to learn at their own pace. This software allows the monitoring of progress and the children themselves to identity areas of focus. In Modern languages, a child can see, hear or interact with a native speaker or repeat a segment of language until it is understood.
  4. The popular use of ICT in society has opened new doors in enhancing learning in the classroom. There are several new technologies which are available which can enhance learning in the classroom. Revolutionary technologies such as data projectors and recently the use of interactive white boards has hereled a new time in the concept of learning. The concept of Social networking is a phenomenon where individuals connect with others around the world. Social networking can be used to engage learners within a safe and secure environment within a school and could be utilised to keep checks on pupil attainment and how pupils are dealing with the learning they are recieving. The concept of blogging can also enhances e-learning. Blogging can be used to investigate emerging technologies as part of ICT and can be a tool for children to reflect on what they are learning and enables parents and teachers to better understand where children are in the spectrum of learning. Are they comfortable and what areas are available for development. Podcasting is also an exciting new technology which can enable learning material and tasks to be download automatically and updated regularly to enhance learning and also enabling children to access learning materials from home
  5. ICT is a fantastic motivator and enabler, but that it is necessary to choose only the technology that will enhance learning and not to simply use it for its own sake. Using appropriate technology provides opportunities to develop independent learning skills.’ ICT enables the delivery and support of learning and teaching. This offers the facility for learners and teachers to dictate and have an opinion on how something is learnt and taught. Successful school curriculum plans take what is being learnt in ICT lessons and show how they can applied across a range of contexts. Without effective planning, it may be the case that certain pupils are denied access to resources they need. ICT is an integral part of school life and can be the identifying factor of what links school to the home. The ultimate aim is to enable pupils and parents to have flexible access to information about their child;s programme of work. By utilising skills learnt at school, children can be successfully integrated and participate in modern society.
