Whatis the 14-19 curriculum reform?
What is the 14-19 curriculum reform? “To raise the education and skills levels of students by delivering a curriculum which gives them life and social skills, sets stretching and challenging targets, and better prepares them for a fast-changing world.”        www.14-19reforms.co.uk
Why is the reform taking place? The curriculum didn’t meet the needs of all young people Too many students left school without the skills or qualifications needed to progress Students left school without the appropriate level of English and Mathematics No young person left behind 		Taken from the 14-19 briefing Notebook

What changes have occurred due to the new 14-19 curriculum reform? GCSE’s and A Levels The Diploma The Extended Project Apprenticeships Accredited Training Foundation Learning Tier RPA – Raising Participation Age IAG – Information Advice Guidance
How have these changes affected teaching and learning?
How have these changes affected teaching and learning? Research Results Controlled assessment    		Taken from the Tomlinson Report 2004 Expanding learning beyond just the academic Teaching tailored around the individual Industry related learning improved Raising the participation age Effects on teaching and learning not yet known
How have these changes affected teaching and learning? Controlled assessment Coursework to be fazed out in favour of controlled assessment Enables a more straightforward method of marking Better authentication of original work
How have these changes affected teaching and learning? Expanding learning beyond the academic Not all students are of an academic way of thinking Students are able to learn in a method more suited and tailored to them
How have these changes affected teaching and learning? Teaching tailored around the individual Not all students learn in the same method Increase burden on teachers to tailor the course on the specifications of the individual
How have these changes affected teaching and learning? Improvements in industry related learning Businesses involved in diploma since its inception Gives students a wider range companies in industry to interact with
How have these changes affected teaching and learning? Raising the participation age Allows greater numbers of students to leave with qualifications that they can use Increased support for students, both financial and academic
To Conclude Proposes to change the education system as we know it It is going to have a big impact on teaching and learning It is early days at the moment so definite impacts can not be seen

  • 4. What is the 14-19 curriculum reform? “To raise the education and skills levels of students by delivering a curriculum which gives them life and social skills, sets stretching and challenging targets, and better prepares them for a fast-changing world.” www.14-19reforms.co.uk
  • 5. Why is the reform taking place? The curriculum didn’t meet the needs of all young people Too many students left school without the skills or qualifications needed to progress Students left school without the appropriate level of English and Mathematics No young person left behind Taken from the 14-19 briefing Notebook

  • 14. How have these changes affected teaching and learning? Raising the participation age Allows greater numbers of students to leave with qualifications that they can use Increased support for students, both financial and academic
  • 15. To Conclude Proposes to change the education system as we know it It is going to have a big impact on teaching and learning It is early days at the moment so definite impacts can not be seen
