Introduction to kingdom education summer school programmes 2016Jacqueline Yang
Kingdom Education (KE) offers academic summer programmes for students aged 14-16 and 16-18.
KE is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping bright high school students explore the opportunities they should be considering at top universities.
Our 2-week and 3-week programs are held mainly in July on the campuses of leading universities in both the US and the UK. In the US, we're based at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and at UC Berkeley. In the UK, we're based at four universities: Cambridge, London, Durham and St. Andrews. In August, we also have a smaller program for 14-16s, with both Berkeley and Calgary in Canada.
Key features of the KE programmes:
- Most are multi-center, so students see different sides of the country
- Each week, there is a different course: one week includes an introductory course to a choice of 5 broad academic subjects which students might wish to study in the future: creative arts; economics, business and entrepreneurship; engineering and technology; law, society and international relations; medical sciences and technology
- In the second week, the choice is between: critical thinking; introduction to ACT and SAT; English for academic purposes
Students taking the 3-week programs also take a challenging course in leadership training and development
- We include work on making a good application to a top university
- In the US, study visits include presentations and/or tours of leading universities including, as well as the host universities, Harvard, MIT, Brown, Columbia, Yale, Amherst College; Stanford, University of San Francisco, UC Davis (there are also visits to two Silicon Valley companies)
- In the UK, students may choose between visiting leading universities and going to top cultural attractions, such as the British Museum, the National Gallery, the National Gallery of Scotland..
- Also: seminars, student presentations, weekly tutorials, daily news reviews, the services of carefully chosen student mentors recruited from the universities visited

Bodwell High School was founded in 1991 in the City of Vancouver and is a non-denominational, co-educational day and boarding school, offering grades 8 to 12 and university preparation. In September, 2003, the school moved into its new facility on Harbourside Drive in North Vancouver, overlooking Burrard Inlet and the Vancouver harbour. Bodwell's purpose is to "provide a culturally diverse environment for students from around the globe, and enable them to become active learners and well-rounded citizens who contribute positively to the world.”[1]
Bodwell’s courses follow the Provincial Curriculum prescribed by the British Columbia Ministry of Education. Students who fulfill the graduation program receive a high school graduation diploma issued by the Ministry of Education. Junior and senior grades are specialized to best fit the needs of Bodwell students.
As of the Fall 2014 Term, Bodwell students represented 36 countries.

The following anthologies are entirely prepared by ELI students during the semester term they spend studying at the English Language Institute (ELI) at the College of Staten Island/CUNY.
They prepare this academic work while having classes of grammar, reading and writing, communications, and TOEFL preparation workshops, with the supervision of their ELI teachers. Topics are chosen by ELI students and teachers and they reflect personal points of view of the topics selected and facts and information researched by them.
ELI students dedicate time to make the best articles and carefully prepare their essays in and outside class. All ELI students participate, from beginning to advanced level. ELI wants to show their work considering their English level in order to become an academic tool for future English-learning students.
Most of all, ELI wants to show content related to topics students may have experienced while studying English in New York, an important topic in their home country, a current issue, or any other topic they decided to write about.
ELI is very proud of the academic work that represents the outcomes of each student, who not only learns English as a language but also is capable of expressing meaningful content-based language.
Enjoy reading the anthologies!

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
